1. Waking to fresh snow

You may notice that I've been tidying up in here, changing pictures about, shaking the dust off, but not the snow. No, I'm keeping the "snow effect" for a while since it's part of our story here and often into April. As proof, check the date on this post.

So I've been cleaning here because Christmas decorations remain with me until January 7, January 6 being Epiphany and all. John is still shaking his head and has begun saying at every turn, "Oh, I know what we'll do...take down the tree." Boy, he is in for a surpriiiiise. :D Of course, I am a huge believer in Christmas being a state of the heart and not a date. I find myself saying "Welcome Him" a lot these days.

Did you have a good New Year's Day? We decided to go to Portland to spend a gift certificate at Borders that it turned out we didn't have in the first place. It was so crowded that I didn't last long. John took my hand and led me out of there in the nick of time. (I tend to have serious troubles coping with a lot of people in crowded conditions. Anyone else deal with this?)

Have a fine Friday and an even better weekend. May it be a restful weekend with much time for relaxing and regrouping.

  1. Beautiful post Vee. Yes, I can suffer from huge crowds. I actually struggled GREATLY with social phobia for YEARS. Hard to have when your in a leadership position alot of times and have to speak in front of large groups, lol. God is good though!!

  3. I love your gratitude list! I spent a quite day, as quite as it can be with my people home again anyway, in reflection. I too did a bit of house keeping on my blog.

This morning my sweet boy is coming over to play until lunch and then I am meeting a friend for lunch and to go flea marketing. It promises to be a wonderful day.

I was on Christmas overload this year and the Monday after everything came down. I wanted to do some deep cleaning after so I can get at some decorating projects I have been wanting to do.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. ooh i love borders. but not a busy borders! We visited chicago a couple of years back and I am so a people person but crowds make my palms sweaty and my heart racy and my breathing uncontrollable. i don't know what it is but i was ready to leave chicago as soon as we had arrived. the public transportation was the worst, it was like there was no escape! glad to not be alone though! ;)

I'm not so crazy about crowds either!
We had a quiet day. My son came over for a couple of hours. :-)

  6. Blog tidying up is good for the soul, isn't it? :-)

And of course you want to keep the 'snow effect'! And this gives me a chance to congratulate you, on learning such. Quite beyond Aunt Amelia's abilities, but I love it, when others do fancy things.

And I join you in your wishing all, to have a restful, relaxing and regrouping weekend.

  7. A wonderful list of simple pleasures...and many that I can identify with! I've been to the bank and the grocery store...and stayed away from all other shops over the holidays. I rather prefer a quiet atmosphere for shopping.

Yes, we do wonder about the grands' love of french fries from early on...and know it's not a healthy choice...and are glad we are not the parents! Also glad that that particluar 'french fries' provider has good coffee...the only redeeming feature!

    Have a relaxing weekend.

  8. I'm not a crowd girl either darlin'. If I walk into a place and it's particularly crowded, I do an about face and hightail it out of there. Panic can rear it's ugly head and the most inoportune moments!
    Have a beautiful day!

  9. Tim Horton's English Toffee Cappucino! Well I love both those but probably not together.
    Enjoyed your list.
I spent some time recently hovering over your house on my enhanced Google Earth. I do hope you did not see me.loved driving around the surrounding area and seeing it through the eyes of the cameras.
Crowded stores, yes I have been through that in the past - E-Mail me if you wish.

  10. Ham pizza? You are too funny. Delicious indeed - I love ham anything. We had a ham soup over Christmas, made by David's mum.

I hate crowds. I can't stand going to the mall either. I did almost all my shopping this year in either November or online (or with your help!).

I need to get posting, but both David and I have been under the weather this week.

    xoxo T.

  12. Oh, Vee, you should write these all in a journal. Then you could have a thankful journal to turn to whenever you needed one. I love all of them. I once wrote a journal for my mother and I wrote on thought on each page. Each thought was something I was grateful for that she had taught me in life. I love thankful thoughts, yours are lovely. 14. I'm not fond of crowds. I usually try to time my excursions during off peak hours.

Love the falling snow - I wish we'd get some real snow here or at least some wintery days!

  16. Your list is wonderful Vee! I started a list and couldn't keep up, though in my heart there were so many simple pleasures to enjoy the last few weeks. I love the snow falling on your blog. I still have my Christmas decorations up too. (I might confess it is because I don't have the energy to take them down!)Have a wonderful weekend! Kathy
P.S. Your blog is lovely as is!

  17. I do find that as patient as I think I am ....I do find myself grumbling in crowded stores where people are moving at a snail's pace and taking up the entire aisle...LOL.

We had snow again last night but it was warm today and now it's gone.

    Hugs,
    Robin

  18. Lucky you organized closets! That is exactly what I spent my afternoon doing. Organizing a storage cupboard. It does make a gal feel good. Now I have about three more to go =/

Yes the crowds get to me too. I love how your hubby knows you so well already. He is such a knight in shining armor for you!

  19. Hi Vee

LOL!! I live in NYC -- do I have a lot of problems with a lot of people in crowded conditions? LOL! You would probably not like the NYC subway at rush hour! One thing I always say though, is that the subway is a very humbling experience as rich/poor, black/white and every color in between, every religious preference, every language on earth, young to old -- we all ride pressed up against each other and have to grin and bear it. The fact that we can all do that civilly gives me hope that the world can one day learn to get along :-)

I love your list of gratitude's --it is good to remind ourselves of the simple pleasures.

I love the "snow" effect --very peaceful!

    Hugs, Pat

  23. Vee, I love your list. . may I copy it and paste it and pretend it is my own? Kidding. . .but I must say, that I nodded my head at so many and will someday soon make my own without referring to yours. . then its not cheating right?
I confess, I took my tree down on Saturday. . it is still beautiful and is on the porch. . .
