Storms and Projects and Gifts

Things are coming around here slowly. Yesterday I cleared the dining room table and felt a great sense of accomplishment even if it's only temporary. In my home, the table can disappear for weeks at a time when I am in the middle of a project. The latest project/s are not complete. I am working on sending a video presentation of my mother's life to those who could not attend her memorial service and I am also working on the dreaded paperwork that comes with such events. I also have many notes to write.

Anyway... Where was I? Oh yes. The clearing of the table so that I could show you the second part of my gift from the lovely Vickie of Sand Flat Farm. A visit to Sand Flat Farm is always a treat. All except for that one little dead creature who looks at me making me feel like Mr. Parker in A Christmas Story when the duck is served at the Chinese Restaurant. "He's smiling at me."

Can you tell that I'm just frittering time away waiting for the light to come? True. I've already been up and have taken photos, but the light isn't good. So I'll chat some more.

Oh! Forgot to say that I've changed the arrangement in the living room with the painting and may have a better picture. Let's see...

Yes, that's a bit better I think. I like the painting having something to sit in rather than being propped.

Yesterday, John was up on the roofs again (yes, there are two distinct roofs up there) clearing snow. Perhaps I should clear this table too?

The storm fizzled out at 10.5 inches. So between the two storms back to back, we received about 14 inches of snow. Big whoop and nothing compared to the snow of the midwest and other places. No ice either. Phew. I hate ice.

And here's the rest of the story — this lovely embroidery done on flour sack material and hemmed with a feather stitch. I am going to be copying that idea. Thanks again, Vickie! My table hasn't looked this good for a long time. John was so pleased to have a spot at the table this morning instead of balancing breakfast on his knees before the tv.

Any eagle eyes notice that my table top is now painted? Just one of the many unfinished projects around here. It has two coats and needs two more and a glazing finish plus polyurethane. Some fine day, I'll be showing it completed. Until then, I'll cover it up with this lovely table topper.

A wonderful day to you...

  4. Hi Vee,
Thanks for visiting and for your sweet comment.

I truly love that painting! Your idea of setting it in the stand show it off so well. The embroidery is lovely as well.

Stay safe & warm. Cheers! Chris

  7. All the duties, which hang around and around, after the sad event. -sigh-

I hoped you'd have the same welcome sunlight this morning, which we do! Isn't it spectacular to see it?!?

And such a lovely photo, of a lovely setting for Dear Vickie's painting! Purrrrrrrfect!

Do hope John is very careful, clearing snow from roofs. I'm sure he is but........ Scary. And I don't have to tell you that.

Oh your outdoor table looks like ours. But ours is way over to the left, in front of the den windows, in winter. Can't get over there to measure snow.

You painted your table white?!? Hurray! I envy all you gals who can whip out the white paint and go-to-it on older furniture. :-)

Mmmmm, isn't the sunlight wonderful? -grin- Yup, it's so wonderful that I have to keep repeating this. :-)

    Hugs and ♥'s...
    'Cause Valentine Day is coming!

  8. Lovely table runner from Vickie...and a great excuse to clear off the table! Mine needs clearing...soon. Christmas decor should be long packed away, right?

  9. Beautiful post....sounds like good therapy. Praying you are surrounded with grace and peace as you work on this most special of all projects.

  10. That's a lovely table topper. And I'm still in awe of the painting. I didn't notice the big round hay bales in the painting yesterday. Wonderful detail. Vickie is so talented...it's fabulous!

My hubby is talking about getting on the roof, too, and when I tell him 'don't, you might fall' he just shoots me *that look* and I just shut up knowing he'll do it anyway. I still worry.

Have a great day and stay warm.

  11. Continued blessings...and the new arrangement with the picture is great! So understand a table being overloaded with projects. I have just finished painting my oak tables...they needed a face lift after 30 years and I love them.
The table runner is just beautiful!!! What a precious friend.
I can't wait to see your projects...wow on the snow...we had a little

  12. Such lovely embroidery on the table runner! Both were wonderful gifts!

My dining room table often looks more like a desk full of my husband's work papers than a place to dine.

We had icy rain yesterday but luckily no additional snow. The sky is a beautiful blue but it's quite cold!

  13. I like the picture sitting its little stand.
I'm good about keeping my table cleared, but I have the loft which is always a mess!! :-)
    The embroidery is very pretty.

  14. Hi Vee!

14 inches of snow! Wow! You really do live in a marshmallow world!

The paining looks so pretty on the stand - Vickie is truly a wonder! The table cloth is absolutely beautiful!

It's so hard doing all of what needs to be done after a loved one passes - sounds like you are getting through it with wonderful memories! We did a video for my mother on her 80th birthday, and I have to say it was a really wonderful experience for me to go through her pictures and see so many pictures of her smiling and looking so young and happy! Your loved ones will cherish it!

    Warm hugs,
    Barb

P.S. That little varmint on Vickie's blog really is funny in an ugly sort of way... :0)

  15. Oh yes, the painting is perfect there. I love the video idea. The tablecloth is awesome. I love stuff like that!

  16. Hello Vee! My, but you made that little painting look great sitting in that carved easel! I like it!

AND, it looks like you've got a flower arrangement that matches that tablecloth perfectly. I cannot take credit for the embroidery, but it IS pretty on your table. I especially loved the feather-stitched hem - that's what drew me to get it! I'm glad you're enjoying it! (and that John has a place to sit!)

Hope he's careful up there on the roof. I know you folks have gotta keep heavy snow scooped off your rooftops, but it looks scary up there. I really don't like heights myself.

    Stay cozy, my friend!

  17. OH I hope John is careful on that roof .. goodness..that looks steep.
I'll be checking first thing tomorrow to know.
The feather stitch on that embroidery is lovely. That I can do. The rest of the embroidery would really be a challenge to my less than perfect patience.

I'm glad to know the storm has passed but wow. . .that is a lot of snow to melt. I did notice last year that once your snow melted your summer came quicker than ours.

  18. Oklahoma has 10+ inches and we are at a standstill. We just don't have this much snow to deal with around here and aren't equipped to handle it. The roads are horrible and dangerous. Below freezing temps don't help.

  19. I've thought of you often these last days, wondering if the blizzards had hit very hard. Care to John, shoveling off those roofs. I love your new, warm window picture as your header. AND your disappearing table! I identify! I have some paperwork spread out on my kitchen table which I hope will disappear today! 13 more handwritten letters to go!

  20. I like the painting on the stand too. WOW that is a lot of snow! I still do not know how you northern gals stand it, I thought my teeth would chatter out of my head when it hovered at about 1 degree here last night and we don't even have any snow! Ya'll must have hearty spirits!

  21. I love Vickie's beautiful painting on the stand....
The embroidery is so pretty and delicate.... it reminds me of the many beautiful embroidery pieces from my past, that my mother and grandmother did......and I love the crinkly material!

  23. Delightful embroidery, always a treat to see someone's handiwork on display.
Have been watching the weather reports, seems like winter sure is packing a punch this year.

  24. The painting and the embroidered table runner are both very pretty! The snow looks frightful! Hope you continue to stay warm and safe!
