More on the Doors

It's raining again this morning and the house is cozy and dark with the furnace running. I'm so glad that most of the painting is accomplished because rain is predicted for four out of the next five days. Would so love to send some to Texas, anywhere really.

Here are the three incarnations of my front door. Yes, I am responsible for that screeching yellow. It was a bad idea. Schoolbus yellow. Fire truck yellow. Yield sign yellow. Awful yellow. The center photo is the priming, which is preferable, and the last photo shows the new Coastal Plain.

Trouble is that, from the front, one can not see much through the storm door. I can't tell if the newly painted door is gray, white or green.

This is how the door looked earlier in the summer when the morning glory was just a teenager and not the monster it is now.

See how beautifully the centers of those morning glories matched the front door? ☺☺☺

Yesterday afternoon I shoved the volkswagons (what I call my living room furniture) around and created a new flow space. It'll take some getting used to. I'd show you, but with a camera not working quite right and the rain...too many obstacles. What I can show you is the plan that I worked up using *this program.* What I love about that virtual room planner is that it doesn't require a download nor does it require signing up. The program was truly helpful. If you have a lot of furniture or volkswagons as I do, you do not want to be doing a lot of unnecessary shifting and shoving.

Thank you for all the sweet comments on the color. You're the best!

A pleasant Tuesday to you...

  1. Great idea using the virtual planner for your room! We had rain yesterday and it's supposed to be decent today with rain starting tonight, then lasting until Saturday. I'm trying to get motivated to start my entry painting. I'm in it alone, so must really want to get doing it to start at all. Enjoy your cozy day!

  2. I like all the colors!-- It is raining here in Alabama, but it is warm and humid, had to turn the central ac back on.

  3. Furnace...already? I'm still pretending it's summer over here.

I saw something advertised on TV...little disks that slip under furniture legs and allow feeble old ladies to move furniture around with ease. Grin. But then again...you have John to help! As for me...I never move anything around. I can not get used to change! Enjoy your new layout.

  4. Hi Vee, that's a neato program. Will have to try that for my little farmhouse! Yes, I agree with Judy - did you have some of little "slide-y" thingies? They're great for moving volkswagens around. (Love that!)

Thanks for taking a listen to Adam's song. Hes, he's very Nashville-y. Has to be - he's in Nashville. We shall see what happens - January will be 6 years that he's been up there. The time slips by so quickly. I miss him!

  5. Vee,

Can you believe Lindsay was just saying yesterday that she wished we could find a free program that would allow us to rearrange the layout in rooms? Thanks for the link!

It's raining here too. A dreary kind of day. I am off to light a few candles and get to reading to the kids!

  6. I have to check out that tutorial, Vee. I am having an issue with my bed facing my dresser and mirror. Not good for "feng shui". :( I can't believe your furnace is on! xo,

  7. Hi Vee,

I love the new door color! I've been considering painting my kitchen "Contented", which is one shade lighter on the color strip!

Thanks for the tip on the room planner program!

Wishing you a wonderful day, Chris

  8. Wow! Thank you for the Virtual Reality Moving Furniture link!

No furnace here, yet. Just using the Wall Unit A/C & Heater things. Turn 'em (heater part) on for a while, in the morning and takes the chill off.

We are still so happy with these dang things! How often do we get to install something, which really, really works out, hu? :-)

    Happy Harvest Home Time!

  10. Girlfriend, I could of used that wonderful planner tryin' to fit all my spunky little MIL stuff into her assisted livin' apartment.

This Ozark Farm Chick ended up usin' maskin' tape on the floor to make sure everything worked with walkin' room. I have to say I worked hard but am pleased with the way it turned out. So is MIL....wooohoooo!!! She's not an easy one to please.

    Love your door...

God bless and have a most beautiful day from the happy hills and hollers of the Missouri Ponderosa!!!!

  11. My hubby will be very glad to know of this program since he has drawn out floor plans for furniture arrangements for me, trying to explain the impossibility of some new whim I had. Your paint choice is lovely, subtle and serene! I'm glad to see the morning glory still in full bloom and that it survived all the winds and rain! Blessings today!!

  12. Our rain is due tomorrow and like you, expected to stick around for the rest of the week-or so. :(

I really, really love yellow so, I'm not opposed to the old colour on your door! But I do like the new one-much quieter. :)

Love the floor planner! I'm going to pop over to that site and see what I can come up with! Thanks!

  13. Hi Vee!

Love the new door color! But that was too cool how the bright door color matched the centers of the morning glories... LOL!

I really like the look of fall in your house. So warm and charming, but then it's always charming!!

    Big hugs, sherry

  14. I'll have to check out that room planner. Your new door colour is much better than the fire truck yellow. The morning glories are glorious. :)

  15. Thanks for the link to the floor planner. I'll be using that!

  16. My morning glory is a monster now too - beautiful though. Thanks for the link to the floor planner, I'm going to check it out!

  17. Love the new color...but also loved the yellow! One calm, one exciting. Calm is probably better for the long run.

Thanks for the link to the room planner!

  18. You did good!
My kids are talking about painting their front door a marigold yellow.
I plan to just wait and see how it turns out...t'aint me weilding a paint brush over there anyway.

My downstairs bathroom is half done now. Was there some kind of "paint stuff" virus floating around lately? I can't seem to stay out of the paint store and away from rollers and brushes lately.

  19. I like all the door colors! And the furnace running.....we are still holding out on that, although I'll turn it on before Mister does!
When you meet a fellow blogger IRL, do you go by Vee?

  20. What is it about rain that chills one to the bones? It always makes me feel colder, anyway.
I do love your coastal green, but see where the yellow was nice for summer.Matched your glories perfectly!
I do hope you had help moving your volkswagons! You don't want to hurt your back. I'll have to check out the link. Thanks for the tip!

  21. The door color you have now is a VAST improvement. That yellow looks a bit like very loud baby poop color, LOL. That program looks neat! I'd use it but we got rid of about half our furniture when we downsized. There's not much to rearrange!

  22. When we got back to Florida we found a pretty blue morning glory growing under our bird feeders here...and it's still blooming! I love the pretty color! ♥

  23. I agree that yellow color was too bright --if it were a creamy yellow it would have been pretty. I like the Coastal Plain color much better.

The room planner looks like a nice program. I have a long and narrow house (our city size property lot is only 20 X 100, so I can do very little furniture rearranging. Everything just about fits with no room to manuever.

  24. Sorry I didn't get by to see your new door yesterday, but it is beautiful, it really brings out the color of the new siding. You and John have worked so hard, and now we get to enjoy seeing the results of such hard work. And if by chance you run out of projects I know of a place that has a list of about a hundred or more. ~grinning.
A neat program you have there too, I will check it out, thanks.
Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

  26. Gotta love those handy programs that save us time and effort in moving our volkswagons around, then deciding we don't like the placement. I remember those days.

  27. I thought we were doing good to have the A/C turned off, but I'm no quite ready for the furnace.
I do LOVE the new door color, but as you might have guessed the yellow door near the heavenly blue morning glory was a winning combination in my book.
Thanks for the link on the room planner. I can see that coming in handy often.

  28. I love this idea of sorting it all out on the computer and then deciding. We are in the process of considering whether to move our antique entertainment center which holds a small TV for our kitchen living space to the opposite wall. Maybe we'll have to try this first.

  29. Our a/c is running right now, and we'd sure love to have some of your rain.

Thanks for telling us about the furniture moving program, I've gotta cK that out.

Your so cute, I love your description of your furniture.
