A Haven for Vee

It's Snowing!

It's snowing! I've been waiting. I was up early to get those blue haze/purple haze kind of pictures.

It may be that you'll think that I am the worst sort of prideful gal to show all these photos. True. Just for today. I bought this home nearly eighteen years ago when I was a struggling schoolteacher with two teenagers and a failed marriage. My former home had to be sold; things were bleak. That I was able to purchase this wee haven at all was something of a miracle. It served us well, though it had, and continues to have, some issues. So through all these years, I have lived in a home that looked shabby and forlorn. I did the best I could, though as John says you can't make a purse out of a sow's ear. Nevertheless, I certainly tried. (Thank you, Darling Man, for all that you've poured in to this place.)

One of my favorite things is to catch a glimpse of home when driving from the upper road. It lasts about two seconds, just long enough to know that she's sitting there. Yesterday, I walked up to see if I could capture it through the trees and across three neighbors' back lawns. I doubt you'll find it so lovely as I do. =)

Thank you for indulging me!

Another gift in the mail! Another gift from Miss Sandy@Quill Cottage! This little bird makes my heart sing. He arrived so beautifully presented.

And on the tree! He is such a handsome fellow...

You can find the directions for making him yourself right *here.* I'm going to begin early for next year having flopped this year. (I told Miss Sandy that there's no way this little bird is getting packed away for next Christmas. He's staying out all year. I have found him the perfect nest where he can observe all the goings on at our little haven.)

Now if you've the time, do tell me what's going on in your corner today!

Merry On!

Caught!

Because it is confusing, the first comment on this post was written by John. Laura said that at first she thought I was talking to myself. Believe me, Laura, it'd not be the first time someone caught me talking to myself!

  1. you're more than welcome my love.I do hope that the extra 2.5 inches of insulation will help to make it more cozy and snug for you while you're flitting around making our little abode into a very comfortable place to live. love, John

  2. "flitting about"? Should I allow this comment to stand? Oh, yes, I will!

Just so no one will think that you even read this blog that often, I'll tell everyone that I called you in here to see the pictures and you took it from there!

  3. Oh Vee I enjoyed your photo story. No I do not feel your are prideful I think you have a sharing heart. I do love setting up a post with great photos to help convey my feelings. I love your little nest and that is what I like about my cottage. All our kids homes have the big high ceiling and such open spaces I feel like I am lost. You are sure getting good on using the programs to add to your photos. Enjoy

  4. Oh first I love the story of God's redemption and He providing you with this wonderful place. I will feel the same when God restores one for our family...we lost our home after 28 years of mortgage and I will be more than sharing picture after picture when or if God gives us another home of our own. Until then I will rejoice in the roof over my head.

Snow..how beautiful...something we see so little of. I am sharing with my little one who keeps wanting snow for Christmas

Merry Christmas...thanks for allowing me to drop in

  5. Hmmmm, for a moment there, I thought that you were talking to yourself. :P

I love your little haven. It's so cozy looking. You have every right to be proud.

We had some snow fall through the night as well so it looks like we will have a white Christmas after all! (even though I don't like snow that much, it has put me in the Christmas mood a bit more)

Today is nuts for me. So why am I sitting on the computer? Who knows!

Just some running around (of course Seb left me with no gas in the van!!!) and a bit of baking. :) A couple of last minute gifts to wrap. Then at 1pm, I have to go to the YMCA and watch Mass swim-they go every Friday.

Around 3:30pm, all heck will break loose when everyone lands back home. I'll start yelling at everyone and we'll know, Christmas has officially arrived. :)

    Enjoy your day sweetie!!

    ((Hugs))

  6. -clapping hands- You got snow!!!!! Wonderful. We got rain, and it's not wonderful, but I'm too old to worry about it. -giggggles-

Your pics are lovely! You have a perfect right to show what you love. Stop with the *being prideful* jazzzzzzzz! "Auntie" sezzzz!

Oh I want to see pics, coming home later in the day, with lights on in your home, and able to see them, through the trees, etc. Please? Some time? You are young and can go out later, and not fall down.

Remember how Gladys Taber loved to have all her lights on (and be *wasteful*), because she loved the look of their little farm house, like a beacon in the night?

Yes, it is wonderful, how your Dear Little House has come along. And it's perfectly normal to want to celebrate it, and to be thankful and give credit to your Dear Husband.

NONE of this, is *prideful.*<--Repeat that 375 time!!! ,-) It's normal. And it's also very good for a marriage, to be grateful to a great husband. So, what can be wrong with all that???????

Oh and please keep taking pics, of the snow-at-Christmas. So we who don't have any, can ENJOY them!!!!!

Stay calm! Enjoy! Take Joy, as Tasha used to say. :-)

  7. A winter wonderland! Your haven is beautiful and it's been so much fun to share in John's work. I know you feel extra-blessed that God brought him into your life to share your home together.

We're bell ringers for a short time again today. My husband took his Santa hat to work this morning. He plans a walk-thru to wish everyone a "Merry Christmas".

  8. Oh, I love the way these comments started with John and then your response!

  9. Oh my, I suppose I should say that Dear Gladys Taber didn't necessarily leave all her lights on, at night, all the time. -grin-

And I remember that even back then, when she told of how she loved to see her lighted little farm house... as a beacon or lighted ship in the night.... How she worried about wasting electricity. Way back then!!!

Love Gladys and don't want to say anything untrue or nasty, about her. As leaving-all-lights-on in today's world, could be looked on.

-chuckle- See, I don't worry about *prideful* but I worry about other things. But then, I AM STILL a *recovering Catholic.* :-))))

  11. Oh I so understand making a house with lots of issues a home. It looks fabulous sitting in the new snowfall. Love that John got on to comment! Today I'm soaking beans for white chili for our dinner tomorrow. Later we are headed to a Christmas get together with dear friends...
We are being threatened with the chance of sunshine today!

  12. I love all of your pictures! The one of your house nestled in the snow with the porch light on and the christmas lights on the fence is so welcoming. Hope you have a blessed and Holy Christmas! Thank you for sharing.

  13. Ah, snow! In Alabama it is in the 60's, has been storming and we are under a flood warning. Yep, Christmas is here! We had our only ever white CHristmas last year and it was most memorable. Your home looks so cozy, warm and totally ready for Christmas. Love it!

    Marry Christmas my friend!

  14. Your home nestled in the trees is just lovely. I really DO prefer small cozy homes to the new huge mansions that people live in.

I love the snowy pictures. Still warm here and we just had more rain.

So happy you and John have each other. : )

  15. Vee,
Your haven is wonderful! I feel the same way about home. A glimpse as one comes home is always a delight to me.

  16. Vee,
Yes. Flitting about. Goodness. Don't we all do that?
The snow looks so lovely. None for us this year, but plenty of rain.
This might make 2 comments in a row, in case the other one didn't publish.
    That's okay.

  17. Love it. The haven (home), the John comment, the snow, the view, the lot.

Happy Christmas, Vee and John! Lots of love.....

  18. Thanks for the pictures of your lovely home and the meaningful story behind them. I also love the quotes about "home" being a little bit of heaven here on earth. John makes me chuckle...and of course, being caught at the computer - priceless! Blessings! (No snow on the ground here!)

  19. Oh I am jealous of your snow. But the sun is shining here today, although rain is in the forecast for tomorrow and Sunday.

Your home looks so cozy and welcoming, Vee, a true haven for you provided by God. And John has done (is doing) a marvelous job of making it even cozier for you both.

I put up a blog post of what I'm doing today - but I didn't mention that I'm sewing as well. Tomorrow will be the last minute preparation and waiting for the children to arrive late in the evening.

Merry Christmas, Vee, and a blessed New Year!

  20. I think your home is lovely and I can't help but envy your space and huge trees and nearby neighbors that are not too close. :D
Thanks for posting your pics! We have decided not to have snow in the Midwest this year. Yes, I miss it a little, but we will be driving up toward Chicago next week for our family time with Angela and I don't mind driving on dry roads. Still, it is awfully pretty when we have snow.

  28. Prideful? No my dear friend - Thankful, grateful, appreciative and full of love for this blessing that the Lord has given you - both the house and John!

Thank you for sharing your story today! The kids are all jealous of your snow!

Today we have been wrapping a bit, a bit of school, breakfast out for Tim and I - the first time in weeks. I picked up some food for Emily and delivered it to her at work, worked a bit on our bookcases...just good normal stuff!

Have a wonderful Christmas, Vee and John. This year you must come and visit us!

    Love,

  29. Oh Vee, I am sitting here eating a late dinner and doing a bit of blog hopping and I must tell you I stopped at your snowy photos and just absorbed the beauty. There is something so peaceful about a freshly fallen snow. They are so rare here in NC, but I thank you for sharing yours with me as it is truly beautiful.
You have every reason to be proud of your haven. It is evident that creativity and love live there along with you and your dear John. That picture of him caught in the act is so cute.
Merry Christmas to both of you!!

  30. Oh Vee..you're not prideful at all. The beauty and warmth of your home has left me in tears...
Merry Christmas to you my sweet friend,

  31. Oh, your cottage is breathtakingly gorgeous with the new-fallen snow all around it! How did you ever manage taking those pictures without any snow prints from the door??? Magical!!! John has outdone himself with that new exterior. And the interior is warm, cozy, and inviting. Would you mind if I plopped right down in your chair to rest a spell? You have every right to be proud. But I can tell that it is really something else - gratitude! Indulge away, my dear.

Thank you for your good wishes about hubby. He is being a model patient and anxious to get back to being "normal". That is something which he hasn't experienced for quite a while, LOL.

  34. This post warmed my heart! What a blessing your Haven has been...when you were first "miraculously" able to purchase it...and now. I love that your husband is providing for you, and protecting you, by working on what is now a Haven for you both. Gifts all around!

Now to answer your question about my own corner...
After a crazy-busy week last week, this one had some breathing room, so I invited friends over for coffee and Christmas goodies on two different days this week. So we come to the end of this week, and I realize that I have "breathed" a little too much, and have left myself with WAY too much to do tomorrow. But that's how I roll. (And I don't regret taking time for sweet fellowship with friends. I may regret taking too much computer time though.)

Christmas blessings to you and yours...

  35. You and John are like the greatest people ever. I would have a very nice visit at your house - I know it. And I know you would have a very good spot for naps and pretty things to look at and nice food and kind people to talk to - I just want to come over right now.

Love and prayers for a joyous 2012 Vee. Thanks for being such a faithful reader and for always leaving me such sincere, generous, thoughful, beautiful and delightful comments. They mean a lot to me. When I see your name on a comment, it is like my little guardian angel dropped by...
