Nag, Nag, Nag

Nagging is the repetition of unpalatable truths.
~Edith Summerskill

What an interesting name has Edith! Is it summers kill or summer skill?

Okay, I've been nagging. (I just know that you're shocked and find it difficult to believe that sweet me could be guilty of such a thing.)

The winds have been howling and I really didn't want John out on the ladder today. As I was making my case at the breakfast table and in mid-sentence, Crrrrrr...aaaaaaa...cccckkkkkk, down came a huge limb before our eyes. I've rarely felt so vindicated or had my nagging so well punctuated, though my niece may differ with that assessment as she's forever telling the story about the day I said something I should not have and there was a clap of thunder so sudden and violent that I jumped up onto the sofa apologizing to the Lord as I went.

Anyway, I shall miss this branch so massive that it could have been a tree all on its own. It has been featured here before...

And here is how it looks after this morning (forgive the reflections)...

So, tell me, do you ever nag? If you do, what does your husband think of it?

  1. Awww, what a shame about the branch!
I think that is wonderful that your nagging was vindicated by it though. :)

I do nag and my husband hates it. Sometimes he tells me that he lets it go in one ear and out the other.

    Pfft.. whatever.

  2. Thank goodness you did and I am sure I do. :)

  3. I confess to nagging once in a while, doesn't every one? :D My hubby doesn't pay much attention to it. Hmmm. Does that mean he's used to it or just isn't listening?
Glad the limb didn't fall on anyone.

  4. Nagging sounds so wrong, doesn't it? I like to think of it as my "honey do" list, it sounds more palatable that way.

  5. I've always tried to look at it as nature's way of pruning. It helps me feel better when the wind or storms remove branches or trees.

Oh yes. . .about nagging. . .hmmmmm. . . You were doing it for his own good!! How can that be nagging? Have I admitted to it, yet? :) I'm told I have that tendency.

  6. I confess! I'm guilty! I do nag - sometimes. And he doesn't like it. At all! So sorry about the huge tree limb. Good thing you weren't out under it! We got a bit of heavy wet snow here this morning that made the roads in our area very treacherous. Enough that I had to cancel two appointments at the hospital! It's blowy here still but just cloudy now. Do you have a wood stove? I guess you will have a nice supply for next year if you do. Blessings, Pamela

  7. Sorry about your broken limb. Old stuff starts breaking and, well, you know where that goes!
I used to nag. Then I realized that it was doing far more damage to me than it was accomplishing anything in the marriage. Silence seems to go farther in establishing a good working relationship. He hates silence! :D

  8. I guess that limb proves you right. Glad no one hurt by it.
    No, I don't nag. Ken wouldn't be around if i did!! : )

  9. Oh dear yes I nag...mostly in the car. Such a nasty habit of mine. That is some limb! Glad he wasn't out on a ladder. Sounds like PEI was cut-off from the mainland with this storm that blew through...

  10. Yes, I do nag. I actually am trying to stop nagging. It is really hard to stop...lol

I am glad no one was hurt when that large branch fell!

  11. Rather than call it nagging, call it gentle reminders that you love him and want to keep him around for a good long while. It's a different way of expressing love.

But I have to confess, I nag sometimes.

  12. Oh my, Vee, that tree should be checked as it may all come down one day if it is diseased!

I like Lorrie's explaination that we give "gentle reminders" to our husbands instead of nagging them..lol!

I think it just boils down to the fact that women are more verbal and we express our inner feelings and desires(demands) more than men do!

  13. Me? NEVER! But I do tell little untruths once in awhile.

  14. Sorry about that tree limb...that was huge!

I don't think I am a nag. I don't ever have a honey do list or anything. Tim is such a project oriented person that is always at work on something...

So did John heed your 'advice' once the limb came down? It sounds like it was not a day for the outdoors!

  15. Glad you were inside when the limbs came tumbling down. I don't nag, there is only the dog, and she doesn't pay any attention to me unless she is hungry. Then she nags, until I stop what I am doing and feed her.

  16. First of all -- You were right! Isn't it beeeeutiful when we are thus proven?

Second of all -- (I am now going to get on John's "bad side") He was acting like an old man, who says he can still do anything he could do, when he was 30. So there! "It's windy out but it won't bother me!!" That kind of stuff.

The older men get, the more they tend to do this silly stuff. So he is showing his age.

-chuckle- Did you really read that to him? Or have him read it, himself? -grin- Wellllll, serves him right. I happen to be an expert, on this matter. :-)

Although "Uncle A." doesn't always do that "I can do it" bluster thing. He does it enough, to *bug* me.

Anyway --- Me? Moi? Nag??? Gracious-me-oh-my-oh-mercy. Perish-the-thought! -heh, heh, heh-

The tree is ready, the candles alight:
Rejoice and be glad, all children tonight!"

  17. I'm sorry about your tree branch. Yes I do seem to nag but it's really not my fault. I think it has to be my hubby. The older he gets the more he doesn't listen :>)

  18. I belong to the "Vee's Club of No Nagging" :) I too give warning for those who never take heed. Count your blessings that branch fell on the ground and not on your house. We have woods around our house. It is a constant worry in a storm or high winds about tree/limb damage to the house.

  19. I think I better sign up for this club, too! I know it will shock you...sometimes I do...nag! But I'm different than all of the rest of you....I don't mean to! heeheeheeheeheee!!!! ♥♥♥

  20. WHAAAAAT ???....aren't we SUPPOSED to nag ?...I mean, is nagging not built into women ?

haha...so sorry you lost a part of your tree...and so glad John wasn't out there, under it...wow...bet HE is glad, too. :)

  21. Oh, I nag everyone all the time. That's our job.

Vee, I am off to Vermont for the weekend, so I'll be back on Monday.

  22. Wow that's a doozy of a "branch!" Thank goodness no one was hurt or nothing was damaged.

And Mr OP? He has selective hearing. I'm hoping to have something to report about what his project is this month but I may just jinx it...fingers crossed.

  23. Oh dear. What a question!

I'd love to say that I never nag, but I'm afraid that I do sometimes. I would like to think that I offer wise counsel (which is what you were doing, I think!). But "wise counsel" over and over is probably nagging. Oh, how difficult it is to control the tongue.

I hope to be like this lady--"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." (Proverbs 31:26) -- and not like this lady--"A continual dripping on a rainy day and a quarrelsome wife are alike." (Proverbs 27:15).

(I think I visit you later every night!)

  24. I am jealous of your readers who only nag sometimes.

Hahaha I think I am in the same category with KarenHarveyCox. Apparently I find it a necessary part of my daily job =) I like to call it mothering...or caring for everyone. I guess I worry about everything and everybody...all the time...hmmm... and I do talk too much, and say too much...so they tell me. Confession is good for the soul...right ;)

I love you Vee and your delightfully truthful self.

  25. P.S. glad the tree limb did not go through your window!!!!

  26. Hi Vee...

Been away for awhile, catching up on my blog visits. Looks like your all decorated up for Christmas, love your new header btw.

What NO SNOW...wow, I remember last Christmas you guys were in a winter wonderland. We have some, not as much as last year either at this time.

    Merry Christmas!

  27. Oh, I do nag. I shouldn't, and I really try not to, but it happens and I would be better off talking to a wall. *sigh*

That was a huge branch to fall. I am sure it startled you both! Hopefully it was just a fluke and nothing is wrong with your big beautiful tree.

    Have a wonderful weekend,
    Jen

  28. I seldom ever have time to nag. My hubby is one of those "see it, get it done" types. I do admit to getting after him about clearing off his dresser occasionally.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Of course I nag... my husband loves it! I'm just sure of it... don't you think he must love it since it's part of me? I'm just sure of..

I hope you don't mind, I think I must copycat the fabulous window treatment in your header. Maybe if I nag (I mean ask) my husband he could get me a branch... today.

    Blessings, Debbie

  30. I really wouldn't call it nagging..lol..in all seriousness, after having 3 strokes, his short memory is not all that great. I often have to remind him and yes, it does get to the point when I just want to yell. (then God gives me this gentle nudge to remind me.)Blessings

  31. Whew...I'm glad that limb chose a good time to come crashing down! I'm sure John will find his clean-up job much easier, now that the limb is already on the ground!

As for nagging...I think it's OK. Since we just completed a video series called 'Laugh your way to a better marriage'...and the thing that came out is that men need to be asked/told more than once. It will never happen on the first request...it just goes into their 'nothing box'. I call it a license to nag. Oh...but there was a hitch to how we must nag. We need to drive a good bargain!

    ReplyDelete
  32. who doesn't nag. i think we all do. it's just part of life. it happens. we all do it. some times more than others. today is a quiet day for me. ha. ha!! how does the hubby say ... well, he nags all the time as well ... so we work it out, some how. (:

  33. I'd just like to confirm here about Judy's findings on nagging :) I saw the same series which is by the way a wonderful gift idea. We bought the DVD's and our kids have watched them with friends and neighbors.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I never nag....just don't ask my husband...he might tell you differently! But you believe me don't you???

    ReplyDelete
  35. We admit, we need each other's reminders, call it what you may! Ha! I need his prodding too, ever so often!
