I Think I Can

Did I get my meatloaf, baked potatoes, veggies, and salad? No, no, I did not. Nothing ever really goes as planned now, does it? Poor John. Between directions written in six different languages and in small print and with pieces missing...well, it's a blessing we got these.

I told my darling that 25 years from now I expect him to know what we baked first. He said that it would be easy to remember Christmas cookies. We'll see. ;>

So many of you have chosen a "word" for 2012. They are unique and meaningful to each one and I wanted a word, too. I was jealous for a word. It came a few days ago while wondering why everyone else could have a word and I could not. My word is Stretch. This means that I am to literally stretch my body — stand straight and reach for the sky kind of stretching and bend low to touch my toes kind of stretching.

My kind of stretching usually consists of playing with the camera as you see in the mosaic below.

Trying to get a better, more clear photo or an interesting shot is about the outer limit of my comfort zone. Ha!

This Stretch also includes the figurative meaning. Though I assured myself that I wasn't going looking for any stretching opportunities; nevertheless, if they came to me...

Not three days later as I was visiting Miss Sandy at Quill Cottage, I found a stretching opportunity that consists of clouds and toes in a different way. You can learn the particulars of the Dare to Dream Different Stretch Challenge by clicking *here;* I also have a link in my sidebar. They are sweet particulars now let me tell you! Hope that you'll give it a whirl.

Having only made one or two simple tags before, I'm skittish. My problem is that I stop too soon. There are not enough layers and levels in my work. My hope is to do better and not do just enough to get by. That's what Stretching is all about. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.

Do you have a word this year? Have you shared it?

  1. No, I have not joined the "have a word" group yet. Nor have i joined the Pinterest, or whatever that is. I am barely coming up with anything to blog about that is of interest. I guess you could say things are a bit boring around my side of blogland. I do enjoy what you share everyday though!

  4. I have not really considered a word for the year, but it is a good idea! Right now I think my word would be survive. Just one month left before we roll. It's crazy here!

    =)

I do like your word. Stretch ... so many ways to make it work.

  5. Best of luck with your "word." And a neat idea, this is.

I've seen another neat idea, for a kind of a *I-Can-Do-It-project,* also...

But why is it, that I have no deep desire, to pick-a-word, or to join that other project?

Am I just so stubborn, that any kind of a "word" or a "project," kind-of-thought-up by another... Is not my 'cup of tea'?

Probably. I am probably that stubborn, that I MUST make my OWN decisions, even in such a lovely thing, as these projects are.

Oh well, "Know thyself" and all that.... :-)

"The night was clear and frosty,
    all ebony of shadow
    and silver of snowy slope;
big stars were shining over the silent fields."

  6. Yummmm, the cookies look delicious Vee!! And "stretch" is a great word for this year...we all need to stretch ourselves, try new things and venture out of our comfort zones, even if it's just a little bit :) I just love Sandy's artwork, everything she creates is so beautiful ~ hope your week is going wonderfully dear friend! hugs and love, Dawn

  7. Alas, no word here. I have been pondering goals, but no "word" for the year.
Last year, I ended up with a theme for the year (which turned out to be two words, "weeping and rejoicing") but they are not words that *I* chose.
So is the idea of a "word" to determine to focus on that theme or concept?

Enjoy your Christmas cookies! (They look yummy!)

  8. Stretch is a great word! I think that it is probably appropriate for me as well. Stretching myself to do things that I "don't think" I can do or do well enough. :)

The cookies look VERY yummy Vee!

  9. I have two words for this year and I have shared them...and I think your word is great, because for me to walk through my words I will be stretched!!

Love your pictures...you truly always inspire and stretch me

I look forward to your word...this is the first year for me to put my thoughts into a word or two, but it has been "stretching" to seek God's face and ask for them.

  10. I have enjoyed reading of so many words given this month, and have one too but haven't posted maybe soon. I like your word Stretch, and how you plan to use it, it brought back to mind of dh and I before we got up this morning, he reminded us both that we needed to stretch, per him watching Dr. Oz yesterday and preceded to show me how! I followed and must say it worked! A sight to behold or is that not to behold! LOL

As you are stretching with the camera skills, I ask that just like my dh , might you share? I need a lot of stretching in this area. A beautiful mosaic today!
Thanks for the link, I will visit.
    Enjoy your day.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  11. Love your goal of stretching. I read all of my friends "words" and I think for a moment that I should get a word, but if a word comes to me, then fine, but I am not searching for a word. I love your pics, you have a good eye with your camera.

  12. The word "jeeze" simmers in my mind a lot. Like "Jeeze, is it time to get up already?" and "jeeze that woman is driving me crazy".

Is it a better word than "sigh" which was my word last year?

One year the word was "thankful" but I noticed an awful lot of things I was thankful for got taken out of my life, so I became wary of being thankful.

    Just muddling along...

  13. I haven't really thought about a "word" but in my goals for the year I want be more flexible. Maybe that is my word... FLEXIBLE (not in all meanings as my body will never be flexible again! LOL!)

  14. Glad to have you as a stretch partner! Hey there is going to be a "word of the year" link party over at The Lettered Cottage on Monday Jan. 16, 2012, might be fun to check it out and be inspired by others words of the year.

Can't wait to see your creation!

  15. I think you have the right idea choosing an interesting word! I always choose one but in the past my words have been Joy, Serenity, etc! This year I want something different....so I'm stuck! OH NO! That can't be my word! heehee! ♥

    ReplyDelete
  16. Stretch...a good exercise for the year! I have chosen a verse...and a song...but not really ONE word.

My verses are Lamentations 3:22-24 The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, 'The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!'

I think I will go with the word HOPE.

  17. I don't have a word yet, but perhaps it is change? Stretch could be a good one for me too. I am definitely stretching outside of my normal box and it has brought huge change! :)

I love your photos...of to check your linky....

  18. Nope, but you've got me thinking about one now. Good idea Vee.

Like your new stove btw. We've enjoyed our duel stove/range. Gas on top and convection oven on the bottom. We run off of propane too, I think Pat had to change out the stove top/burners (orpheus's) to make it work for propane.

Anyway...it's nice to have a handyman I agree, saves a lot of money. ;)

  19. Looks like the cookies turned out good. Your photos are turning out very nicely, too!
Stretch is a good word. I sort of picked the word 'persevere' in answer to a blogger's question the other day. I'm such a procrastinator that choosing the word persevere is a bit of a stretch for me, but I'm giving it a shot.

  20. Love the idea of having a word. I read this earlier this morning, but still can't think of a word. I know that Dr. Andrew Weil always says to breathe. Maybe that's the wrod I would select.

    Your mosaics are so pretty.

Oh, and it's wonderful that you were able to use your new stove/oven.

  21. Well, Vee dear, I LOVE this and also love that you discuss the many layers, which are what give works depth...just as in writing.

Haven't forgotten you, but have had some setbacks and today Jeff will pull out my books and tomorrow we will mail them to you.

Should I sign them to you or??

    Love,

    S

  22. Nope, no word here, but I enjoy reading everyone else's. Yours is a good one and something I need to remember to do as well.
Your new stove looks like a beaut. I feel for John with those horrid instructions. Something tells me that he is a patient man.
How cute to remember the first thing you baked in your new oven :).

  23. I love your word....it can work many ways. My word this year is Adventure. I plan on making every day an adventure.

  24. Good luck with your focus word for this year! I think it's something that I could incorporate into my word "flourish".

  25. Ah stretching feels sooo good. I do it every day.
I don't have a word!! I'll give it some thought.
It would be funny if John remembered what you baked and you didn't!! : )

  26. I love your word. I am still trying to decide on mine. I will post it when I figure it out.

  27. I agree with Sue that to see our words through the year does require stretching in many ways.
I will join you in giving my body some good stretches too. Thanks for sharing!

  28. I enjoy how you looked for a word! I don't have one yet but have been thinking on it. Remember that stretching improves your flexibility :)

  29. Hi Vee,
Oh no, I do not have a word to share..I did not choose one and I did not set a resolution for 2012..is that bad?. I just want everyone to be healthy that's all.
    I like your work :stretch:
I need to stretch my dollar, since I'm so good at spending it LOL.
Wishing you and yours a very sweet and happy, healthy new year.
    Big hugs, Elizabeth

  30. Oh dear...now I'm really craving a home baked cookie. Those directions that come with equipment can really be frustrating. Glad things are working now. Ahh yes a word for the year. I like stretch. I chose understanding...

  31. Yes I have a word.
    H Heart full
    O Of love and forgiveness.
    P Pray constantly.
    E Enjoy God's gifts.

My name for the new year is The Year of Renewed Hope and I did blog about it. Didn't look at it as a word for the year.
Stretch is perfect. So many ways to go. Body, mind and spirit.

  32. No, I haven't picked a word out. There are too many to pick from! And besides, I am addicted to adjectives. I would end up with more than ONE word. See, that's too restrictive for me, LOL!

I like your "stretch" word, BTW. Go for it, girl!

  33. Diet should be my word for the year, but it sound too depressing to me. I prefer something like "color" but the word "diet" keeps staring at me from the mirror.

  34. I have barely gotten into the swing of things this year, so I suppose my word might be Wake Up. Tee hee. I spent last Saturday night in the emergency room with my daughter, and this followed helping my other daughter to move into her new apartment. I have been sick for most of January so far, so I really do feel in a daze. Maybe when I finally wake up in February, I'll think of a word.

Meanwhile I love your photos on this post, especially the mosaic. I love your posts Vee.

    Happy Tuesday,

    Karen

I don't have a 'word' for this year, but I love your stretch.
It means getting out of ones comfort zone, doing things you never dreamed of doing, I think.
As this year is unfolding, I'm wondering if my word isn't going to be 'trust'.
    Take care-KImberly

  36. Stretch is a great word - in both the literal and the figurative meanings.

I've been pondering a couple of words but haven't settled on any one yet. I've had words in the past, but last year went by without one, and I'm hoping that this year will not be like that.

  37. Those cookies look heavenly. If I baked them, I'd eat them all so I'll just look lovingly at each one.
