A Haven for Vee

Not Bored Exactly...

January has brought me to this or as John says, "You're worried about what's going on in my head?" ☺

It's true. I am now knitting *crocheting nests. K.n.i.t.t.i.n.g. *Crocheting nests for crying out loud! It all began when I was practicing Deb's directions last night at A Blade of Grass. She said something fascinating about using two strands of yarn so, having lots of little leftover balls of yarn, I practiced and instead of a purse, came up with a nest. She'll be worried about me Deb will.

*Apparently, I don't know what I'm doing.

Keeping my nest company is my sweet little barn painting from Nita Leger Casey

And all these pictures are reminders to those who are in a panic about the loss of Picnik. (No, I have never met an alliteration I did not love.) I can't say enough kind things about Photoscape. Do your own Googling and download the program when you're certain you have the right site. It's free. If you don't already have it, you'll love it.

Hope January is treating you well...

  2. That nest is the sweetest thing. I have been thinking of crocheted eggs and chicks! Yes, I am ready for Spring in my head, anyway. I am going to check out Photoscape. I need an easy program. Picasa makes me crazy. :/ xo

  3. Hey, I have a friend who makes nests all the time. Vicki at Two Bags Full...they're fabulous (as are yours, just different).

Vee, how do you do a closed comment posting?? My friend just passed away and I don't want people to write me about it...it is about her.

    Love,

    S

  4. Your purse turned nest is adorable. I have 2 such nests that I won from a talented blogger's giveaway. I have a lot of fun moving them around and playing with them. She also made a few birds to go with them. Perhaps you may want to try that next ;).
Thanks for the Photoscape reminder. I have been using Picnik, but am glad to know there is something else out there that works just as well.

  5. Yes, I love Photoscape for many reasons, but I will really miss Picnik, too.
Cute little crocheted nest. I've been noticing a lot of nests in the bare trees this winter. Some are quite large, so I amuse myself by wondering whether they are bird or squirrel nests. (Doesn't take much to amuse me, does it?) :D

  6. It is really sad to see Picnik go. I recommended that site a lot to folks. Photoscape is a terrific program too and I used it for mosaics. Unfortunately, I can't use it anymore. It is only for Windows platform - not Mac. Pbbtt...

  7. I love your nest! I've been crocheting slippers with double strands for birthday presents.

  8. Nest + Barn Painting + January = Tranquility?

  9. Oh I think a next is much more practical. What would those eggs do otherwise?

It's just your inner being crying out for spring-the nest making, I
mean. And it's a perfect accompaniment for your painting.
I know it won't surprise you to hear that I've never heard of Photoscape. But I'm looking forward to checking it out now that I see what it offers.

  12. Thanks for the info on the photos..you are too creative.

Oh I laughed about what your husband said...mine says, "Janette turn your brain off!"....my thinking wears him out!

  13. Looks like you have been having fun! I never used Picnik, but I will try Photoscape for free, if I have enough room on this old Dell
Love your nests, and that barn is wonderful!

  15. Those nests are perfect and what a great way to display them!

Thank you for introducing me to Photoscape. I haven't made the time to learn all of its features, but use it daily (since you told me it also resizes pictures). I really should make a donation to them.

  16. I'll have to find Photoscape...I'm sad about Picnik! I love love your precious nests! I wonder how seashells would look in one! ♥

  17. Vee,
The nest is darling! And I love the painting.
It is interesting how one sometimes starts out to create one thing and ends up with something else. I have examples!

  18. I love the little vignette with the sweet nest and little barn painting! I like what you did with Photoscape to your photos. Will have to look that one up and try it too. Is you snow almost gone? Ours is. It's been foggy all day and about 7 celsius so it's melting fast with brooks running around our house from the back hill. (the ground is frozen so it flows on top!) Needless to say the drive way is a skating rink!

  19. Looks like quite a comfy little nest for sure. Glad you found another fun to use photo site. Blessings!

  20. I was going to say are you having a picnik spree? But apparently you have found something else that I should check out as i go through withdrawal. I think your nest is great and you certainly have placed it attractively with the eggs cuddled up in it!

  21. Cute nests! I'm incapable of crocheting. Must try Photoscape!

  22. This is such a sweet and snuggly nest you've made, Vee.

I just found out about Picnik. I'm wondering if Google won't just rename it and make it better? I use Picasa and I'm happy with that. It doesn't have many bells and whistles but I like its regular editing capabilities. I will keep photoscape in mind, just in case!

  23. Thanks for the info. I had just gotten the premium Picnik but they are going to refund us. I am gonna try that Photoscape. I have gotten tired of Big Huge Labs. Not much to choose from. Love the k...crocheted nest. Now that is real creativity. Make it and then name it. LOL Love you girl.

  24. I love the idea of a crocheted nest! I bought 2 or 3 different yarns to try and stitch one onto fabric, but I like this much better. Now I just need to figure out how to make a circle? I know 1 stitch and keep my repetoire to dishcloths :)
I know I spelled that wrong! I will attribute it to winter brain.

  25. I am so glad for the reminder of the Photoscape editing program. I was dismayed to learn a couple of days ago that Picnik would no longer be available come April. Ack! I had been hesitant to download another program and use more storage on my computer (have NO idea how much I have or need), but I simply MUST be able to have fun with my pictures! And what lovely things you do with yours, Vee!

I think that your crocheted nests are the perfect blend of winter and spring. No wonder these came out of your creative brain through your hands!

  26. Oh Vee, thank you for telling me about Photoscape, I am off to check it out. I so love Picnik!

    The nest is just darling!

  29. -chuckle- We do whatever helps us through this kind-a-icky time of year!!! If knitting/crocheting nests works for you, so be it. :-)

For me, I guess it was to complain about dullllll Jan., in a post. And then surprise Dear Readers into snorting their orange juice up into their nose. >,-)

Like I said... We do what works for us. :-)))))))))))))))

We are born with whirlwinds, forest fires, and comets inside us. We are born able to sing to birds and read the clouds and see our destiny in grains of sand. But then we get the magic educated right out of our souls.

  30. I totally missed that Piknik shut down. Thanks for the re-direct. A knitted nest is a lovely idea! I suspect with a bit of tweaking (a tuck or something) a stylish hat could also be a possibility.

Can't believe it is STILL January. Will this month ever end?

  31. Oh my, you ARE bored.

Just fooling around with Photoscape are you?

Haha! I do like your little birdnest tho - and I love the little painting! I think I love painting small paintings more than big ones. They go quickly, give you lots of satisfaction ~~ almost instant gratification (well, they take longer than you think...). What a nice gift!

Now, go mess around with Photoscape some more. I think I will, too. It's raining and dark here today and I can't paint until it lightens up a bit outside.. :(

  32. Good job...on the nest and the photo artwork. I have yet to try Piknik...and I guess it won't happen now. Thanks for your suggested option.

  33. I have used PhotoScape for years and if they, too, GO AWAY, I will jump off the nearest cliff.
I am stricken to the bone over losing PICNIK but am on the trail of another good one.:))

I adore your sweet little crocheted nest.

  34. Vee, the nest is wonderful and does go nicely with the painting, too.

    Very.
    Sweet.

I don't use Picnik or Photoscape. So I cannot identify with the stresses going on. Looks like you've had some fun playing around.

    xx
