A Banner Spring Day

Reality sets in this morning as we return to normal spring weather. Still we have our memories. ☺ Four days of glorious temperatures, low humidity, and dreams.

Dreams arrived in the mail yesterday in the form of books, postcards, and art. What a blessed gal am I!

Brenda of Coffee Tea Books and Me sent me two classics: L'Abri and Hidden Art by Edith Schaeffer. If you read Brenda's remarkable blog, you know that she discusses books often; she has referred to both books more than a few times. I sat down at my earliest opportunity to read and I was not surprised that she references the books often nor was I disappointed in what I was reading. I'm only 41 years behind, and longer, with these wonderful books. Thank you, Brenda. (Brenda announced a new venture in yesterday's post. Check it out!)

Kate of Postcards From a Real Life sent me postcards. Wonderful postcards. They feature Maine scenes of 100 years and more ago. What a thoughtful thing to do...thanks so much, Kate!

This one is meaningful to me as I spent many happy summer days at Schoodic Lake. A family member has a year-round home there and I do believe he'd have some interest in this postcard.

My paternal side of the family hails from Bangor. Wonder if they know any Seaveys. Love the writing on the back of the card on the right. Jack wrote it. Jack and not Lee, Jack's wife. I'm not sure if I believe it. Perhaps Lee wrote it for him. What do you think?

This last package contained gifts and my order. I have loved this piece since Miss Sandy (Quill Cottage) first featured it over a year ago now — maybe over two. She recently decided to sell some things that have been "piling up." I hope that she doesn't regret sending this to me because I love it. Love is not too strong a word to use either as the layers of design and thought and meaning in this creation just amaze me.

...a Christian, above all people, should live artistically, aesthetically, and creatively. We are supposed to be representing the Creator who is there, and whom we acknowledge to be there...If we have been created in the image of an Artist, then we should look for expressions of artistry, and be sensitive to beauty, responsive to what has been created for our appreciation. ~Edith Schaeffer

So attractively packaged...

Sigh... Do you see the bird in the hand?

In Place

And Again

Such a scrumptious detail...

Thank you so much, Miss Sandy!

Told you that I had a banner spring day! You go have one, too.

Love Vee

  13. I loved learning about you and your family from Maine. I love Maine, and I often will take a day trip to the border near Kennebunkport. I traveled further in Maine for my honeymoon, we took the ferry to Nova Scotia. Also when my daughter was looking at colleges. Maine is gorgeous.

I love your Dream art, and it looks perfect on that wall.

Enjoy this beautiful day. I am going to go out with my camera and capture some Spring.

  15. So glad you're enjoying the postcards--I knew they'd have a happy home with you. I love that message from Jack to his Dear Cousin. He may well have written it--both my grandfather and step-father had beautiful penmanship.

I have all of Edith's books, they were so important in the formation of my thoughts on creativity, art, and family life.

    Keep on Dreaming!

  18. Miss Sandy's 'dream'...beautiful! And the books and postcards...treasures. As for Jack's handwriting...wow! How sad to think that handwriting will soon be a thing of the past.

  19. I like that quote from Edith Scaeffer. You really got some sweet gifts for sure. I've been in Bangor, Main once. We stopped there from England to go through customs before continuing on to L.A. in 1973...I guess that might not count as "being there".

  20. Someone - and I still do not know who it was 36 years later - gave me Hidden Art as a wedding present, and honestly, it is the one thing I value most. And it is here, right behind me on the bookshelf. I re-read it often.

I absolutely love Dream, Vee - so special!

  24. With such warm sunshiny gifts in the mail, I'll bet you're hardly noticing the nip in the air today! I do not have L'Abri, but The Hidden Art of Homemaking is on my bookshelf and is a wonderful resource.

  31. Hi Vee,

It's me again. I meant to tell you I read your Blogger Profile, and I'm a big James Herriot fan, too. I've read the whole series two or three times, and would love to visit Yorkshire someday.

  33. Hi Vee, love, love that sweet dream artwork. Looks so cute on your wall! You certainly did have a banner day. We had record warm temps. In the upper 70's and I loved every minute of it. I started a new linky party that will take place on Thursday's. I would love for you to share sometime. Linky has been down most of the day, so this first one has been a bit of a pooper. lol! Hopefully next week will be better!

  35. You really did have quite a day! So much love and beauty. Francis Schaeffer is my FAVORITE inspirational writer. L'Abri, Hidden Art of Homemaking, What is a Family... all are must reads in my opinion. Hidden Art gets re-read often.

    Enjoy!

  37. Oh, Hidden Art! One of my favourite books of all time. My copy is tattered and torn, but it sits like a welcome friend on my shelf. I read it early in our marriage and it became my guidebook for homemaking. Art is everywhere!

And speaking of art - how wonderful for you to have one of Sandy's pieces in your home. Love it!
