A White Hot Mess

It was a red hot mess...

~No Way In~

Perhaps a white hot one... Whatever it was, it was an embarrassment. You may think that you are the only one who ever has a mess. Nope. One of the drawbacks to an upstairs room that no one ever sees is that THIS can happen.

~A Tidy Southeast Corner...fabrics stored on a drying rack and a peek into the far room.~

As a result of watching Dawn at The Feathered Nest and Sandy at Quill Cottage show their tidy studios for Where Bloggers Create 2012, I felt inspired to get things straightened and sorted. I started by moving some furniture around, which always seems to get me motivated. I managed to get the fabrics sorted and my sewing table cleaned and that's where I ran into trouble.

I got sidetracked by the view...

And my little ideas...

If you have vintage pillowcases, you know that they do not fit standard pillows of today. I like to use them to make caddies as I've shown before. This one came in perfect for the end of my sewing table. Did you know that an old makeup brush works very well at cleaning little bits of fluff from your sewing machine? Yup.

I thought about the little things I'd like to share such as my mother's baby shoes hanging in the window along with her little coat upon the wall. I wrote in careful print on the bottom of her shoe...My Mother's Baby Shoes with her name, her date of birth, and her place of birth. I thought it would be good lest someone someday might wish to know.

 ~a new placemat binding~

Then I began finding projects that had been tossed aside and it seemed that, now that I could get through the room, I ought to work on them. (I note that Dawn is working on projects in her newly cleaned studio as well. Thing is, she waited until it was clean first. I've sort of just taken off sideways.)

Oh dear! What's to become of my poor little sewing room? Stay tuned for further details.

Hope to see you tomorrow evening between 8 and 8:30 where you can sign up early for this month's Note Card Party, if you'd like. I am so looking forward to your posts this time out! Mine may feature ice cold drinks. Just sayin'...

  1. Hi Vee!

Oh, can I tell you how much you inspire me?!

I love that other people have messy rooms too! You have such a knack with making things look beautiful! I think I will tackle one of my messes today!! Loved your mosaics!

    Hugs,

  2. That looks a lot like my mess. I share my messy room with my hubby too and that's a lot of the problem. I love the tea towel!

  3. Whoooosites, you do have a lot of stuff in that room, do you not? :-))))

I know what you mean about a room upstairs, which no one can see into. We have 3 of them, and are constantly culling and etc, in 'em. And never getting all done! -sigh- But none of them, have I designated as MY DOING STUFF ROOM.

See, if I did, I'd HAVE to throw all stuff out and have what was left, neatly placed. Then and only then, could I begin to USE the ding-and-room.

Soooooooooooooooo... I simply side-step the issue. By not having a My Do Stuff Room! Ahhhh the Wisdom Of Age!!!! LOL...

  6. It is funny how things can snowball, when you decide to straighten up! Love seeing little bits and pieces...

  7. Artists are seldom tidy! And You ARE an artist!! Being creative just naturally makes a mess.......
My sewing room is fairly neat and tidy as I write this today. Which is a shame since that means I have not been creating anything in there lately!

  8. As they say, you can't bake a cake without breaking a few eggs, so how can one expect to create without making a mess? At least that's my theory and I'm sticking with it.

When I do tidy my sewing room, I get all inspired with the things I've tossed behind cushions, in the closet or under the bed and soon, the mess begins all over again.

Your studio is looking ready for a creative burst! Enjoy it!

  9. I don't have a room that I can throw stuff and shut the door any more...wish I did! You've got the right idea though! See you tomorrow evening!

  10. I don't have a luxurious creative room like that either in my tiny little cottage. So I'm insanely jealous for a place to paint away from everyone else and the TV.

Oh, goody - time for the note card party! I'll have to start digging...

  11. Vee...you just crack me up!!! And don't you worry, ALL of our rooms have had those wild and crazy stages!! The only thing about cleaning up is I can only hope and pray that I remember where I crammed everything when it comes to making things!! And how neat is it that my little hovel could inspire you too :). It is MY little ding-dang-room no matter how neat or messy it is and that, my friend, is the best part of all! I love seeing little peeks into your home, thank you for sharing with us! Wishing you a wonderful week sweet friend, hugs and love, Dawn

  12. Ha! Well it's my master bedroom that is up and away that no one sees. Never the bed made (sluggard that I am). You have some fun projects and I do love the view from your room.

  13. What an ambitious project, Vee! Good for you for tackling it! I need to borrow some motivation from you for a couple of corners here.:)

  14. Hi Vee, My sewing room looks pretty much the same except that you have some very pretty collections-lace, bulletin board etc and I don't. I do know that I need to get up there and organize but firstly I need to get up there and start a baby quilt. Can't wait to see your next set of photos.

  15. That's what I love about doors...cupboard doors and doors into a room. They keep the mess out of sight! I'm still closing doors...and procrastinating the 'making of something beautiful' from the mess. You did an amazing job, Vee!

  16. You have a very interesting sewing room -- chockfull of inspirational items! I'm glad you got it picked up enough to get going on some fun stuff:)

  17. I have some places in this house that need sorting and organizing. Good for you for showing the "before"; it really makes one appreciate the "after", or at least the "in progress". Off to my tidying!

  18. You have such a lovely view out your window..... I think I'd pull up a chair and stare out the window, and leave the mess alone.
You're so creative..... and I think creativity needs a mess.

  19. I have always been impressed with women who can both create wonderous things, and yet do it all from an organized, neat as a pin room. Don't think I fall into either category, haha. You should have seen my upstairs sewing room when I had one. I was always going to make it neat as a pin, but it never did happen. But you know what I found most interesting and exciting about this post? The tip of using an old make up brush to clean the "junk" around the sewing needle and things on my sewing machine. Brilliant! In just already know this will work perfectly! I have always just blown really hard to get it, haha, Hope you had a good day!

  20. We did some furniture rearranging this weekend....not in the rooms I had planned however! It was fun and I love a freshly arranged room with everything so tidy....

Your space is going to be so happy and fun to work in.

  21. I'm still in the process of making Christopher's former bedroom my new creativity room.

I need to get a simple folding table to use until something better comes along.

Then (hopefully) he takes his large bookshelf in January when they leave married student housing and get a bigger apartment. That opens a space for more storage.

But at least it LOOKS like my room now. It is definitely a work in progress, too.

I am coveting that red cabinet.

  22. I sure enjoy your blog - this thing about a messy room -- and for you it is your sewing room -I can see how that could be hard to keep in order. Well mine is my art room ( when I had one).. it was hard to keep it clean when I was so busy busy in it - but when a project was done - it's clean up time - I am big on order -like things in place..wink!

  23. Hello Vee
When I participated in the 'Where Bloggers Create' party last year, I drooled over the setups some bloggers have.
I'm in unfinished basement for my crafts and would love to have painted walls and pretty things but at least I have my own spot.
Yours is nice and if the party inspired you to organize, you'll enjoy the transition.

  24. Just think of the treasures you will find when you clean it up! All of your posts are so perfect. It's nice to know you have a messy spot.

  25. It makes me feel so good to know I'm not the only one, but I can't show you a picture because I can't find my camera! ;-)

  26. Enjoyed the peek into those 'other' corners... I've been working on a corner or two of my own that needed help! We're making progress.... and I start to feel lighter, freer and more creative with each thing sorted or removed.

Clearing away... making room for new thoughts, ideas and projects.

    I breathe in deeply.... bliss!

  27. IT seems like you got a lot done on your room and other projects. I am jealous. I have rooms like that upstairs, well maybe not quite like that, but if I did what I'd like to to them they might turn into that before they are finished.

  28. I came and read and failed to be inspired.. :) I haven't a clue where to start and the days just keep slipping by. Woe is me!!

  29. p.s. Your view. Well...that would do me in right away. It's lovely and I imagine I would just sit by the window..read..and let the rest of the world straighten and clean and organize. Oh..alright. I'll DO IT! :)
    Hugs!

  30. One of the joys of tidying an area is finding buried projects and fun things to do! I can think better when things are in order and get a new burst of creativity.

Love the baby shoes. I think it's a great idea to put that pertinent information right on the sole. Someone will be grateful for that someday.

Have fun in your tidy corner! :D

  31. You are more industrious than I am. I just feel like loafing the rest of the day after coming in from all the watering of plants and flowers I'm trying to keep alive in this dreadful drought/heat. I wish I could get motivated to craft/sew again, but I just don't have any inclinations whatsoever at the moment. I did think, for all of about 30 seconds, about making a new valance for the window downstairs to cover the pull down shade I bought. We'll see. Have fun in your newly arranged and cleaned sewing room!

  32. I create the best messes when I am most creative! So you must be working on a masterpiece, LOL!

  33. Well Hello, fellow pea in a pod, Did I enjoy this post, as I am now feeling so much better about myself, knowing that I am not the only one who goes into a room for one specific thing and ends up doing two or three things, seeing your creations only proves this. Having your Mom's baby shoes on display is a wonderful idea, I think placing treasures around the home that were once theirs keeps memories vivid in our heart and mind. I consider myself in great company. I have been told that the best creations come out of the best messes, just look at us,God took my messy life and set me on a right rode, to which I am so thankful!

    Enjoyed your Mosaic Monday too!
    Hug from,
The other pea in the pod.

  34. OMG Vee, I know I must get to bed! I just wrote on your last post a comment correcting this comment , where I misspelled road. I refuse to blame these mistakes on old age!

  35. Your sewing room sure has a beautiful view. I can see where one could be distracted from the task at hand. I love all your vintage things displayed here and there. I'd never show where I create my blog as it's hubby's office space and it's a mess and not pretty at all. I know you'll get your sewing room back to rights soon. Blame it on the heat.

  36. OK, Vee, I've been gone for a while and am catching up here. Can I just say you are my favorite blogger EVER for posting your "before" photo! Hehehe...I would have to clean up a little before I reached your level of tidiness in that first photo! If I ever get it done, I'll take a shot and post it as my "before" photo!
