Happiness Shared

 ~Happiness Shared is Happiness Remembered~

The simplest things keep children happy like collecting the best acorns and creating a family with them. A papa acorn, mama acorn, two brothers acorns, and after a bit, even a wee little cousin acorn. Sam was inspecting for worms and imperfections. There were so many acorns on the lawn that he didn't want to settle for any old one.

Late afternoon on a grand day always finds us with the youngest grand as well. (We pick him up at school.) We go out for a dish of ice cream and a roll down the hill. We listen to stories such as the one you'll hear in the video.

Perhaps there's a bit of anxiety on the part of the about-to-be new kindergartner. He's done so well and come so far in the time he has been at school (year around for the past two years). We're all very proud of him and I am praying that he will learn just how to keep his hands in his own space and "off his friends."

Did you see the tree beginning to turn? Last year, the season was late. I'm thinking this year, it'll be early. Any such signs in your corner?

***

Thank you for sharing all those projects you've got on hold. I have many of the same ones waiting for perfect days when I'll not want to do them any more than I want to do them now. Today, I think I'll clean a closet or two.

Enjoy a lovely day!

  1. Such handsome little fellas! Love that video. He hasn't yet experienced the first bus ride, but he's definitely given it some thought.

I haven't seen any signs of autumn, yet, but I need to look for them, too. I have seen lots of berries on shrubs and fruit on trees and that's a sure sign that autumn is just around the corner.

  2. It's so hard to tell the difference between Autumn and drought.
Your grands are charming. He sure knows the rules. So hard to keep ones hands off! ;D

  3. They are so sweet at that age. I love how you spend such great times with them. Making memories! Acorn hunting sounds like great fun. My girls would always (still do even) run down to the creek at my IL's and frog hunt. Good stuff!

  4. Adorable! My little grand called me on Monday, his very first day of kindergarten, he had a great day. My daughter-in-law not so much, she said she teared up a little as she took his photo at home, in front of the school, and sitting at his desk and cried a lot when she had to leave him. They grow way too fast.

Yes, we are seeing signs of autumn here but they deceptively look like drought as Debbie said. But I noticed the wild black eyed susans, ragweed, and wild sun flowers are filling the roadsides and temps were only in the 90's yesterday!

  5. I remember acorn playing especially at my grandma's house, it's a favorite memory. Some had hats, some did not! You do have fun with your grandchildren and are making wonderful memories!

  7. A precious post, Vee! Simply precious.

Full of present fun, and future memories. For all involved.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! A hill to roll down! Oh what a forgotten bit of fun!

Yesssssss! Every little kid should have a hill to roll down! "Auntie sezzzzzz..." :-)

  8. Oooops...

Yes, we are seeing signs of trees turning. And of many growing things, losing their will to keep blooming prettily. (Took pics yesterday, of flowers, kind of giving-up-the-ghost, as it were. :-))

I so hope it will be a super-duper Autumn, of super-duper-Leaf-Peeping. For all those people, who rely on this, for a good part of their lively-hood. And for all of us in the NE, in general!!!!!!!

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  9. Awwww...such precious pictures! I love the acorn hunting (and the accompanying mosaic). What fun for a child. (And it requires imagination and creativity, which is so much better than "screens".)

Loved the story! He is thinking it over...

  10. I always enjoyed nature hunts with the grands when they were young. Acorns are right up there in desired treasures to find and your guys look they're having fun.
It has felt like autumn for a couple of weeks now and I do see some trees starting to turn. Can't believe how cool it is in the morning walking the dog.

  11. Good morning! Loved the video...what a little cutie! How I enjoy a little one telling a story like that. No signs whatsoever here in So. California. I wish I did! Enjoy your day...

  12. Kyle loved seeing your grands this morning!

I love the things that kids get focused on...keeping your hands to yourself is a big thing on his mind! :)

I see signs of early turning too. I don't mind as long as it is beautiful!

  13. It is so inspiring to see the ways you spend time making memories with your grands. How fun to collect an acorn family and then have it documented in the form of your lovely mosaic.
    The video made me laugh.
I noticed a few of my dogwoods have turned and the beautyberry bush is filling up with those beautiful purple berries.

  14. Your grands are grand indeed.

The link to the vid didn't work for me for some reason.

Hating knowing the colours will be brief this year - everything so dry it won't hang on long.

Your are such a good grandma.

  15. How wonderful to have "grand" days - he is so cute!

Acorns - I so remember collecting them as a child. Actually, I also collected them last year to put in a vase and pop a pillar candle on top, now I come to think about it. It looked great for autumn. Maybe I need to go acorn hunting too.
Please, we still need some summer days over here in the gloom. I have the washing draped all over my kitchen after it got drenched yesterday!

  16. It's 8:45 here, we've been on our mile walk, Mr. Sweet just left for work-out and I have the Coffee Cake shown over at Happier than a Pig, in the oven. It is cloudy, just my perfect kind of day, and I am not sure what I am doing today...other than eating that coffee cake.
I have been cleaning a closet..my Decorator Closet I like to call it...and now must load tons of stuff in the SUV and take it all to Goodwill....AFTER I eat the coffee cake...:))
    L0ve your little acorn collector.:)

  17. Oh! I do remember acorn collecting and was just that picky about it, too! As a matter of fact, just to see an acorn illustration transports me to many happy childhood hours collecting them, naming them, and making up stories with them. So glad I haven't outgrown such pleasures - hope your little ones don't either . . .
    Joy!

  19. Oh dear..."keep your hands off your friends or you're getting off!" That's quite the threat...
Hope all goes well on his first day and the following days, too.

  20. No acorns yet and the trees are still green, I haven't really seen or felt fall yet (except in my head). Still hot and humid. :) xo

  21. Re: Your comment in my blog today... I understand that from just pics, that "Castle" in my city, looks very interesting. I know.

Because one has to know the beautiful OLD homes, around it. Like I do and Jaz ("October Farm" blog)does, because of visiting here. If you see the comparison, you can see how the building of this HUGE sprawling thing, was so out of place.

And me-thinks it was meant to "make a splash." But I'm not supposed to say that, on my blog. -sigh-

But I will make sure to picture the adjacent homes, and show the comparison. ,-)))))

  22. Cute grands, looks like you all had a fun day! Cute video, too. Hope he enjoys riding that school bus!

I don't know about acorns, but I've heard we don't have walnuts this year. And one friend said his pecans were hollow. It will be slim pickins' for the squirrels and other wildlife this year, I'm afraid. And I'm sure I must have said this before, but I'm pretty certain we won't have any pretty colors this fall. The trees will just go straight to brown. Some are already, or maybe they're dying. We still have had no rain...it's critical.
About the kitties...yes, I learned to read Stormy very early on. She has the most expressive little face. :)
    Have a beautiful day!

  24. Well that was 45 seconds of cuteness!
And it was fun to hear your voice (:

  25. Precious children. They are little for such a short time.

I have noticed a few trees turning here as well. Autumn will be early this year.

  26. We should all keep some of the child alive in us. Keeps life fun. : )
I've seen a leaf or two with some color in them. It won't be long now before they all start turning.

  27. I love "grands" days, so many precious memories you are making. No signs of fall here but the temps are cooling just a wee bit

  28. Memories for all of you to treasure. What a fun day for all!

  29. Oh Vee, how funny! I just bet he's learned his lesson now too.
It's wonderful that you can spend these special moments with your grands.

  30. I want to roll down that hill, too! One of my fondest memories is when I champeroned my daughter's class on a trip to Boston when she was in 6th grade. We stopped at Bunker Hill and all the kids took turns rolling down the hill. So much for a history lesson...lol! They had so much fun, as it was the first hill most of them rolled down in their life!

Your little grand has certainly made a lot of wonderful progress, Vee! He seems to know the bus rules well :)

No signs of autumn here as yet --still hot and humid in NYC.

  31. I get the biggest kick listening to kids - and see their cuteness shine through when they are talking..
Project, well the list keeps getting longggggggggggggger - wink!
The photos of the grandkids are you going to enlarge them and frame them? I bet you had that plan already - right.. I really like how you took the snapshot of the little grand son holding out the acorn -- I can just here him say " look grandma, here is another one"...smile
    Hugs..

  32. So cute...your little video clip. So cute...your little kindergartener!

Just today I commented that the leaves on a few kinds of trees were beginning to fall. And then I stopped at Costco and admired their row of maples ---bright red in the sunlight. Fall...just around the corner!

  33. I've tucked acorn hunting onto my mental grand kid activity file. We have a hint of fall color but still hitting 90+ each day.
