Of Bows and Silk Poinsettias

(sweet images, too — I still miss her)

If I keep hanging out at PicMonkey, I'm never going to get anything done. If I keep hanging out in Blogdom? Same story! But what fun!!

John has a saying that goes this way: A little putty and a little paint will make this barn what she ain't.  Ditto for this arrangement! It's not really snowing and there are no pine cones nor giant snowflakes nor red winterberries (and I surely could have done a better job). What there is is a new bow thanks to Pam featuring them on *this post.* You can follow her directions leading to the original blogger to find how to make the perfect bow right there. My only contribution to this project is to say that the three pieces don't have to be all matchy-matchy. Course one should be forewarned by taking a cue from my arranging skills. =D

I really do like birds...a peek at my cheesy red silk poinsettia decorated bookcase shelf. See all that wall space above? I'm working on a plan...

~Now how'd I get two birds in there?~

Enjoy your Saturday. I'll be enjoying mine!

  1. You inspire me! I do so enjoy your creativity. I'll be trying some new things today. That little bird above is placed perfectly!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. We got our first real snow overnight and woke to everything clean and bright white. Yesterday, sun and dry grass. Makes the mood of Christmas begin. You did a fine job on your decorating Vee. Always love the birds!

  3. Awwww, I thought you really got SNOW! -grin-

Here, we were supposed to get ice pellets, and we got warm-ish rain. -pout-

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Now my Dear, you must *Limit* your PicMonkey time. Or you will be needing a Meeting For "Those Addicted to PicMonkey"... -grinnnnn-

But!!! Those are awfully CUTE little white birds. :-))))))))))))

  4. I laughed at this post because it was just full of joy and fun...and I think that is well worth our time! I will have to check out picmonkey and play some...what a good stress reliever.

Have a wonderful weekend...from warm Texas, who might see some snow on Monday!

  5. I totally would have thought it was snowing in pic #1. You're becoming quite skilled with the photo enhancing!
Yes I saw the bow from Pam. It came right after an evening when a friend tried to teach me again how to tie a bow properly, I've been challenged in this area my entire life. Now that I have a tutorial (she also sent me one, just in plain bow tying) maybe I can practice and get it in my head. I even did a post one time on how moms know how to tie bows, but not this one. Of course I did not have daughters. But back to the main point of your post, will look forward to seeing what develops on that wall (i did see a bird ....) Enjoy your Saturday; it looks like what could be a snow day here, but it's really foggy "soup" as we call it.

  6. Aren't you clever with PicMonkey! I need to go there and play some myself - the basket looks great. I didn't know there were birds.
Raining here today, so a good time to do laundry and cleaning.

  7. Howdy-do! Yes, Janette - I heard about the possibility of some snow, too - but it usually stops just around the metroplex, and East Texas usually gets cold slush if anything. That would be cool, tho!

Your home always looks warm and cozy, Vee - even with the Volkswagens. Wish I had one or two of those things actually...

Ok, I wonder what you're going to do with that wall... looks great to me. Just put some more birds on it~ :)

  8. That snow does look so real. I played around with picmonkey the other day and was sore by the time I got up.

  14. I was just playing in pic monkey a little while ago. Such cool effects! And it looks like YOU went a little bonkers with it, LOL. I'm surprised you didn't put a bow tie and top hat on my regal eagle too!

I learned how to make the big fluffy bows about 30 years ago, and it is a neat skill to have.

  15. g'morning, dear heart...
I couldn't make a big fluffy bow if my very life DEPENDED on it...not even if they said,
"Make a fluffy bow and you can meet Johnny Depp IN PERSON.....
nope, no amount of teaching has EVER gotten thru to me.(wait, is there such a word as GOTTEN?...knowing you are a teacher always makes me squirm when I try to write anything...not good at spelling nor wording)but I must have been better at it when I was in school...always made good grades except...EXCEPT biology... she told me to dissect that frog, I said I just can't do it, she said do it or fail this class...when I said I couldn't do it, I was totally serious....:( sooooo..........
Pray tell me how cutting up a cute little frog could have POSSIBLY come in handy during my lifetime???

I love pic monkey and can spend all day long over there. This is why my tree isn't even up yet....GOOD GRIEF...

Just had my 3rd cup of coffee and 2nd biscuit and now.....going to make a batch of Candy Cane Cookies and then I'm DONE with cookies. Then, it's on to CRANBERRY SALSA and if it's as good as I think it is, I'll be showin' ya. :))

  16. Love the arrangement Vee and your bow turned out great! You had me fooled though as at first glance I thought the snowflakes and berries etc. were actually real. I'll have to check out picmonkey too and get me some fake snow since the real stuff seems to be missing from our landscape so far. Now just what are you planning for that wall space? I'm sure you'll show us soon. I'm feeling 100 % better today. Don't know what struck me yesterday but I think it might have been an allergy to something. The Reactin seemed to do the trick! Enjoy your Saturday!

  18. We're having a dry weekend for a change and so I should be able to go into the woods and cut some evergreens to finally make my wreath for the door. Your basket is inspirational! Have a lovely weekend, XOXO

  19. Hey now, don't be hard on yourself! Cheesy is in the eye of the beholder! I am not at all into over-the-top Christmas decor or decorating every square inch of space that an ant would feel claustrophobic. And I enjoyed Karen's voice very much. Her story is tragic. I like your little bird near the shelf, I have two representing my two on my header, in their colors. I haven't really experimented very much with PicMonkey other than basic things. But you have a talent for it! xo

  20. I'd better not go there because just tweaking photos in Picassa will often cost me hours of time!

I do LOVE the way that first picture looks, though.

  21. Picmonkey? You may have told me about this before but I don't remember. The snow looks totally real, I'm quite impressed. I looked over the pictures before I read the post and wondered how you got the little bird on the violin. I'm resisting the urge to go find picmonkey until I have what I'm supposed to do done. ~ Abby

  26. There just aren't enough hours in the day right now. I am getting into troubles with time management just reading (too many) blogs. I don't know how others handle blogging, pinning, etc. I guess they have better time management skills. :). Either way, you are right... tis a lot of fun.
Love what you've done with PicMonkey. Looks so realistic with the snow. The little birdies are a charming addition too.
Our temperatures were near 70 today. Did a little work outside and ended with a glass of wine on the patio. Don't think that's ever happened in December before.

  27. Very clever!! It really does look like its snowing!!
I think we could all use a few more hours in the day. : )

I will not visit Picmonkey or like you, that would be the end of my days
accomplishments. I do love what you did with your arrangement and birdies around the house too.
I see your tree is up-very pretty! I haven't gotten any of my decorating statred yet:( Maybe next week?
    Have a good weekend-Kimberly

  33. Love John's quote - so true! I dare not even look at Pic Monkey - I know what you mean about never getting anything done if you're not careful. Today I just peeked at blogdom and didn't allow myself to spend too much time - had sooooo much to do. It "sort of" worked. Happy weekend to you too.

  34. Cute quote by your husband! LOL! I LOVE picmonkey! Time can really get away from you, once you start editing pics ...so much fun! Love the edits on your basket of greens! :)

I know the comments are closed to your Sunday post, but I do want to say, Thanks for sharing that song by Janet Pascal. I'd never heard it! Brought the tears on! ...beautiful! I sang a song for Hanging of the Greens, and it is from Mary's perspective, Mary Knew, by Brian Free. Not as popular as Mary Did You Know, but beautiful message as well! You blessed my heart with your Sunday post! :)

  35. Gonna check out that bow tutorial! I sure could use it!

  36. Popping in here after a busy weekend to say that you fooled me too! And I use PicMonkey all the time! I guess I haven't played with that particular effect yet... But your photo looks great! :D

I have been enjoying your Christmas music. I love the song sung by Janet Pascal. I had never heard her sing it, although I have listened to the song many times as sung by 4Him (love them!).
