Good Neighbors Candle Company

Ohhhh...a package in the mail. Love those!

This sweet note makes me smile. I'd like to thank Becky, the owner of Good Neighbors Candle Company, for agreeing to try something new for me. I had read about candles that smelled like a fireplace and since we've been enjoying our dvd fireplace so much I thought that this scent would add a nice touch.

Oh so sweetly presented and so cute in a little red tin cup.

And, generous to a fault, Becky tossed in the Autumn Magic scent, too! Recently, Becky has been working on new waterproof labels. I must say that it just looks fabulous.

There's the little wood wick that Becky mentioned. So my verdict? I think it smells like a fireplace burning and it's subtle, not at all overpowering. When John arrived home after the candle had been burning for a while, he wasn't able to pinpoint the scent. When I told him, he said, "Of course! That's what I almost said, but it seemed silly." Later, when I had him sniff the Autumn Magic, he said, "smells like juniper." I don't know if there's any juniper in there, but thought it possible. Now, don't forget, Becky, if you'd ever like to work on John's favorite scent... (For those who need a reminder, that would be pine needles and horse scat.)

Please visit Good Neighbors *here* (it's a very pretty place). Becky is a dear blogging buddy and blogs at Hospitality Lane.

Thanks to all for the fun discussion of Downton Abbey held behind the scenes. I promise that, when I do start discussing it here on the blog,  I'll be sure to give an upfront spoiler alert. Anyway, I wish that we could all get together, try that British toast, have a pot of tea, and carry on a wonderful discussion about the show. To those who think you'd find it dull, try it, you may find that you really like it!

  2. I have to check these candles out. I had some candles with these wicks...do they sound like a crackling fire? Thanks for the link, Vee. The candle looks so darling in the tin cup!

  4. Oh you dear friend.....thanks for being so kind.

I'm thinking that the fireplace scent needs a bit of a boost, personally. I'll be thinking on what I can add to it to make it a bit stronger without changing the essence of woodsmoke that they captured so well.

Don't be surprised if I pop some tea lights in the mail to you for a retest at some point. :-)

You are never going to believe this, but yesterday I found a blog all about the cooking on Downtown Abbey. It's called Downtown Abbey Cooks.

  8. Hi Vee
It will be nice to have an all out discussion on DA; I found the cooking website through another tea blogger a couple of weeks ago - fun to peruse the recipes.
Imagine the experimenting to get a candle to smell like something in particular!

  11. What a wonderful surprise to receive in the mail! I like how you and Becky collaborated on the development of this candle. I'm thinking your fireplace DVD coupled with one of these charming candles would make a delightful Christmas gift for someone who doesn't have a fireplace.
We have two gas fireplaces. I was recently thinking how much I miss the scent of a wood fire and the wonderful snap, crackles and pops. This candle may be just what I need. How clever of Becky to use the wood wick. I'm off to check them out.

  14. What a wonderful gift! How perfect to have the scent of the fireplace accompanying the DVD. I'm not so sure I would buy John's favorite scent!!

  15. That candle sounds lovely.
I watched my PVRd episode of Downton last night - it just gets better and better!

  16. Oh how delightful, of Becky!!!!!!!!

Oh how not-delightful, that I no longer can enjoy candle fragrance. -moan- -sigh- -sob- -sniff- Due to allergies, creeping up on me.

John's fav scent! Oh you are such a card, Vee! -gigggles- Had to relay that to "Uncle A." It helps, to show him, that he is not the only picked-on-husband in the NE. -giggggles-

  17. Sweet - a candle that smells like a wood fire! It's genious. We have the real thing and it's so wonderful - especially on these very cold bone chilling days lately! I'm off to check out Becky's blog and also the DA cooking site - well, maybe after work that is! Have a lovely day Vee!

  18. Now that's a scent I might enjoy.
You might enjoy Arti's take on the last couple episodes. She sees things I don't just by watching...

  19. I'm glad Becky sent you her product and had you review it. I must admit her packaging and scent ideas are awesome. I can only imagine how it created a unique atmosphere for your home with the cold outside, XOXO

  20. I think it's brilliant to come up with a fireplace scent for a candle. So often, I try to create a cozy fragrance, but it is still a little to floral or something. The way she packaged it with the red mug is adorable too.

I'm clicking to that link to see what other things she has.
And then, I'll come back around here to see what other good stuff I've missed.

  22. Gee I could use some of this to go with the fireplace sound on my south to sleep phone ap. :-). It sounds pretty cool.

  23. That would be soothe to sleep. I hope I don't go south and off the end if the bed.

  24. Fireplace sounds like it would be LOVELY! My kind of fragrance.

That wood wick is an adorable idea, too.

  25. Ken doesn't usually like candle smells but this one he just might like. I know I would too. I like the Christmas candle smells.

  26. Fireplace scent is a lovely idea. So glad you get to try it out!

  27. Oh I'll have to give those candles a try! I have a fake fireplace with candles in and I think one of those fireplace scented candles would be a great addition!

  28. Another fire place/burning wood smoke scent is Lapsang souchong tea. Twinings has a variety; I will warn you a short brew of one cup will have you singing camp fire songs. The taste...well, I am not a smoke fan but some folks love it. Anyway, it is an alternative scenting option if you want to avoid open flames.

  29. That must smell wonderful!

Sorry I missed the discussion on Downton Abbey :)

  30. I love Becky and her candles are amazing! The coupling of her "fireplace candle" with your fireplace DVD sounds so charming. John's favorite scent not so much. I would feel sorry for you and Becky both experimenting to recreate that one!

  31. I have not heard of Becky's candles, I'm going to have to go and check them out. I love having candles burning around my home. What a fine scent that has to be.

  32. Wood fire smoke is one of my favourite scents Vee. I bought one at Bath and Body before Christmas and loved it. I was sad when it was all gone.

    ReplyDelete
  33. What a treat...to get your own custom designed candle from Becky! So far, I can only vouch for her hot chocolate candle, but it smells scrumptious!

I don't need a wood smoke candle as we have a wood stove, but it is a scent of which I never tire. Wood smoke says cozy...warmth...home. Sigh...

  34. What a great candle...I will visit her shop right now.
When we move, we won't have a fireplace....might install a wood burner later, tho. I won't miss buying wood and cleaning ashes, tho....:)

  35. John has me smiling...with his favorite scent. :) He might want to test that candle out in his shop! I'm not even remotely interested in testing a candle that smells of alfalfa and cow scat. I had my fix of that 'aroma' at midnight night before last, as I helped chase cows that had opened their gate to go on an adventure.

One day I may have to have a Becky candle shipped to Canada to try. I'm not real good at 'burning candles'...better at saving them.

  36. Always wanted to try a candle with a wood wick like that....
Chickie had a candle that smelled like a fireplace. Quite interesting, I thought!
