A Haven for Vee

My Subject

Thank you for all your comments concerning photography. They were most helpful. I had a good session of reading and practicing and where has that Exposure Compensation been hiding? Oh that was a good button to find.

Seems as if I always practice on Fioré when she'll allow it. Lying in her patch of found sun is usually when she's the most cooperative.

This was the best of the lot and then I cranked on it a bit further brightening the ear and the nose in Photoscape with "effects."

It's always fun to play. Have a wonderful weekend no matter what the weather brings.

Will you play with photography today? Doing anything fun?

  1. Fiore is so pretty.

She looks like a cousin of Romeo.

This is a great linky party pic for Shadow Sunday, Vee!

  2. Fiore is lovely. They do seem to photograph best when napping in the sun. At least, Teddy does!

  3. Just makes me want to reach through the screen and give that sweet napping kitty a pat on the head. Well, I went back and read all the comments and will definitely be pulling out my Canon manual. I'll only have my point and shoot with me for the weekend as we head to Toronto.

  6. You brightened the ear? WOW! I'm impressed! I don't have Photoscape, I'm missing out! We may go to Rainbow Springs today! It's sunny and our high will be in the 80s! Seems like a warm Feb even for here!

  7. Gorgeous kitty pic...

Not planning on posting an entry today, so it might be a very good day to look up Exposure Compensation, in my camera booklet. Brrrrrrrr... Such a scary thought... Look into my camera booklet... Brrrrrrr...

But maybe I can be STRONG!!!

    Perhaps...

Otherwise, nothing much planned... Other than finally making my self, the one G/F cookie/bar mix, which works. :-)

  8. Except, he is reading the paper behind me, and mentioned something, which "gets my panties in a twist". One of those socially accepted things, which even I am getting tired of.

Hmmmmmm... Just might post a teeny, tiny rant. ,-)

  9. Oh, Miz Vee! I am so proud of you!!! Your image is exposed perfectly for your subject and with no blown highlights. And look at that backlighting on that ear! It is exquisite. Take a curtsy or take a bow. You just learned something that will significantly change your photographic results for the better.

That scene with your cat is exactly the kind that begs for exposure compensation. The differences between the shadows and light are too extreme for your camera to successfully "average" out the light. And that's exactly what digital cameras do when they are fully set on automatic. And as we have all learned through other examples in life - average rarely works well. One-size-fits-all rarely fits anybody, LOL.

The best control mechanism on today's digital cameras is located right behind the viewfinder.

Where do you go from here? Practice, practice, practice! After a while, you'll be able to size up a scene, identify how light is falling on the subject, and exposure compensation adjustments are second nature.

  11. what a wonderful photo of the cat! Perfect! I got the brand new camera for Christmas and have done very little so far to learn to use it...sigh. I need to get busy! Enjoy your week-end....

  12. That's a great photo of Fiore, Vee. You are really taking time to learn about your new camera and to practice taking photos. Today M is repairing the snowblower, which broke when our son was using it to clear his driveway after his blower broke while doing the same! Then he has to clean up our path behind the house that is all drifted in. I'm going to make cookies with mini M & M's. I should get out and take pics on this beautiful sunny winter day. We're going to friends for supper and a game of Mexican Train dominoes tonight. Enjoy the day!

It's already snowing here. I've been working on snowflake photos. Nothing like Jill's yet, though.

  17. That is a wonderful photo, Vee. Isn't that Exposure Compensation button wonderful? I wish I'd found it earlier. Fiore is such an obliging subject. Stay cozy.
I might get to some photography today. For now, I'm going outside to prune my blueberry bushes, then do a few errands, then come back to dig in the garden. Tis the season!

  20. Popping by for a minute as life struggles to get back to normal. I am intrigued by your growing camera expertise. Someday I need a new camera too but right now I have done pretty well with my point and shoot as I alter them in iPhoto. And it's so quick to take a series with a digital camera, i think that's a good idea, One is bound to turn out well. Well sorry you are having more snow ...

  22. I wish I was more photo savvy, but sadly there just isn't enough time in the day for all the things I want to do:-( I live vicariously through you, my friend, XOXO

  23. Beautiful Fioré! And what a stunning photo you have taken of her...I love it!

You are such a good photography student. I think that you are entering high school while I remain in 1st grade. I have a lot of catching up to do! But today, I took no photos at all. Not a one, which is unusual for me. I did clean the house, make cookies, and make a stab at catching up on some emails. All needed. Well, maybe not the cookies...although I am giving some to a friend as a birthday treat tomorrow.

  28. Nice shot and what a comfortable sight. I'm afraid I'm running while I'm playing and have too many distractions to experiment with my camera. Excuses...excuses.

  29. Wish I would make time to experiment with my camera. Love this picture of Fiore.

  30. Love the photo of sweet kitty in the patch of light! Amazing how a cat can find that beam of sunlight and bask in it all day long! I have 3 kitties living with us now!
Oh, how I wish I was able to do artistic photography--I must confess that I am totally intimidated by anything technical! My hubby on the other hand, is quite interested in photography and it is his hobby! I suppose I should have the patience to be taught!

  31. I might not have the patience to be taught, but I enjoy experimenting.
