Pinteresting

Today, I'm on another mission out of the house so I'll keep this post simple. (I have a number of things to share with you and ordinarily I'd share them all. I may be the queen of mismatched topics.)

Pinterest—there—I've said the word! When Pinterest and pinning first came on the scene, I was a scoffer: One more thing to muddy the waters and make blogging complicated I thought. I may have come to the party late and I may even have come kicking, but I am here now and would love to officially invite you to see my humble boards and what interests me *here.*

I know precious little about Pinterest etiquette, other than to know that there are rules, so please enlighten me.  Do you have some pet peeves or tips where pinning is concerned?

My sidebar permission notice has changed considerably to reflect my new interest. This is my current take on it: Any photo that may be of interest may be pinned with the exception of family photos. I wouldn't want to find my grandsons' photos on Pinterest nor any other family member, including myself.

Then how do I invite you to visit my Pinterest boards in my sidebar? I found the logo and I found where they do not wish any changes made. The logo doesn't fit my decor so I'm doing something a little different. Hope that that doesn't break a rule. I notice that many of you do something a little different, too. I'll just go with it. ☺

So talk to me. How much time do you spend on Pinterest? Have you tried some truly awful things? (Ahem...a brownie in a mug for example.) Please share.

  1. I have joined Pinterest and have had several things "pinned!" I love going to it and seeing the creative people, but unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time to spend (as I would like) at the site. Beautiful daffodils, Dee, XOXO

  2. Hi Vee,
I am on Pinterest, but have not really spent much time there. I am not really sure of the rules. Anyway, your pins look interesting and I signed up to follow you. I will check out your pins later.

  3. Loved seeing what you've pinned. At first, I spent quite a bit of time on Pinterest. Now I rarely visit, but enjoy the ideas I've found there.

  4. Love your pretty yellow daffodils. A needed burst of color on a gloomy February day.
I have enough trouble figuring out blogger, and little time, but I did look at your Pinterest page. It's interesting to see all the crafty things other people do. So much talent! Now...Back to my Excel spreadsheets!!

  5. After I comment I am going to go to Pinterest and 'follow' you. AND see what all YOU have pinned. I am on there but have never got the hang of it. Plus I simply do not have any extra time to spend. Hopefully I can see YOUR boards before I need to rush back in to the nursery!

  6. I have both a personal Pinterest account and I'm part of the Pinterest Mom Heart Group (the link to that is on the sidebar of my blog).

I have hundreds of items pinned but my favorite way to use it is to "park" recipes I want to try later. I have the "Pin It" on my toolbar and use it to pin a blog page, usually for recipes but I've also used it for crafts, decorating, books, etc.

  7. Vee, I hardly ever look at my Pinterest page. I don't have time and I find it too overwhelming so see all the things and to try to follow everyone who has decided to follow me, even complete strangers! I will follow yours though as I have some favourites I enjoy looking at once in a while. I also haven't got the hang of pinning on this Macbook. Oh the things I need to learn. Have fun pinning!

  8. Well, here's my take on it. I scoffed at pinterest at first too, but now I love it. I love it mostly because it a wonderful way for me to store things from the blogs I read that inspire me to future projects, etc. So... I'm sort of a blog -out sort of pinner. I also just do it under my regular Clark Kent identity. Some blogging friends have found me mainly because I pin something from their blog. (I'm actually not sure they even know it's Super Debbie from Words on Wheels or just Clark Kent Debbie who likes their blog, but I digress...)

    Anyway, that's what I do.
I don't mind if folks pin something from my blog, either, but I wouldn't want it to be a personal picture. I don't put a whole lot of them on there so I doubt it would happen.

Long winded. I know. It's been a while since I gave myself permission to sit over blogs.

  9. Oh, and one more thing. I don't really care about followers. Actually, I would rather my IRL friend NOT follow me because I'm being selfish smellfish with my pin ideas. (Hangs her head in shame.)

  10. I love Pinterest! I go in spurts with pinning things. I have started to make some of the dishes that I have pinned and plan to make a dish every week just to get through them.

  11. Vee, I dug my heels in for so long when it came to joining Pinterest and I finally took the leap. I'm surprised that it really hasn't cut into my time as much as I thought it would. Actually, it's so much faster than copying down recipes and ideas on scraps of paper!

I'm off to go visit your boards. I wasn't sure how to link to my account on my blog. Can you shoot ma an email?

    XO,
    Jane

  12. I am now following you on Pinterest! One pet peeve, people who will pin 159 of your pins (and this is true, it happened to me) but they don't follow! (I have a thing with followers, it seems, I need to work more diligently on letting go of it). I also discovered some things from my blog were pinned, it was fun to discover them on there. ;-) I don't post photos of me so I wasn't worried. xo

  13. I meant to add 159 pins in one shot!!!! xo

  14. I follow no rules on Pinterest, I probably am the most uninformed Pinner, lol, all I do is brows and pin on my boards, I know nothing about joining people following people, lol, but I love browsing, I would say I spend a half hour a day, thats a long time , I shouldn't but I love looking at all the stuff,

  15. I go in fits and spurts with Pinterest. Sometimes I peruse it every day; sometimes it's once a week.
I use Pinterest in several ways...

    1) My decorating boards are almost like magazine subscriptions to me...and they do not clutter my house! I love, love being inspired by beautiful colonial decorating, so this is so much fun to me!
    2) I use Pinterest to find new recipes. I try to keep these boards rather small, so that I really do try the recipes that I have pinned.
    3) I use my party board to file ideas for gatherings of family and friends. I must confess that I sometimes forget to look at the board when I'm planning a party though. But I use it enough to make it worth the trouble.
    4) I have a craft board that has lots of fun stuff...but I have rarely made anything I have pinned. Kati, on the other hand, makes oodles of things that she has pinned!

Okay...that was probably far more than you wanted to know. I do need to add a Pinterest link to my sidebar, but like you, I don't like the standard icon so I haven't added one yet. Kati made her own social media icons which I think are so cute, but I have not been creative yet.

    1. No, no, that's just the kind of thing I wanted to know. I am in the process of culling recipes I've not enjoyed or commenting on them when I do try them and like them.

  16. I love, love, love Pinterest, although Audley wishes I hadn't discovered it .... His project and honey-do list seems to grow weekly. ;-) It's also a good place to store fitness inspiration and goals for myself as I continue on my little fit journey. I've tried several recipes, a few duds, but a few good ones as well. It's always a hit and miss.

  17. I'm a fan of Pinterest. It's a great place for me to store ideas/recipes/crafts. I go back and look at my own boards fairly often and have tried a number of recipes and crafts. I don't have a pinterest link on my blog - although I've been thinking of putting one there. I'm following you, as you've probably already figured out.

  18. I love pinterest...and have a huge storehouse of ideas waiting to be tried over there. Do you know that you can have up to three 'secret' boards over there? (No one else can see those...and your pins are never shared.) I like that for keeping ideas that I might want to blog about one day.

Have a fun day...out and about.

  19. I love Pinterest, but I know nothing about following wonder how that works... All I do is scroll and when I find something I like I pin it to my wall does that make sense? .. Occasionally I will share with friends or on blogger... don't know how it all works clueless... I am with you with the family photos too scary and kinda weird do such a thing.. I love all the tips you get on Pinterest!!
Vee, this was a great post!!

  20. I use Pinterest to pin things I like in the categories I have listed, but I especially use it lately for recipes I think sound interesting. After I try them I either keep them on if favorable, or send them flying off. Fun to use the recipes on my tablet propped up like a recipe book. :-) I know there are many wonderful things on P. and you can search for anything you might want to know about. :-) And, no bragging here, but if you were to visit my house today, we'd go under an umbrella to the yard and pick some of our daffodils so you could have a real bouquet of them. :-)

  21. LOL, I found you several weeks ago. Thanks for repining a few of my pins! I just have a simple picture link on my blog's sidebar that says "Pinterest." Good enough for me! I don't think I'm doing anything wrong by that since I am not trying to mimic their design fonts. Your little Pinterest button is oh-so tiny, I had to look 4 times to finally find it. It seems like you could use a bigger icon than that.

One thing that I recommend is to always check a pin and make sure that it goes to where it says it does. I find about 25% of the pins are not correctly linked. In those cases, I create a new pin that is precisely directly. You can also check who has been pinning from your blog. And it looks like you've been pinned already quite a bit! the web address for checking is: pinterest/com/source/yourblogaddresshere Of course, add your particular blog address in the noted spot.

I have found it very useful for personal bookmarks. If you notice on mine, I also find a lot of useful photography information articles and pin them for interest to friends who are following my boards..

  22. P.S. I spend about 5-10 minutes on it a day - maximum. I pin as I go during the day whenever I see something of interest in my web research.

  23. Yes we and most everyone in the US is pining for Spring. No not pinning, I don't do Pinterest, don't really know why. Just another thing to slow we down on the things I want to get done I guess. I know you are so tired of the deep snow but your photos are beautiful. We careful out there in it.

  24. Another P.S. Use good description in your pins (or revised descriptions of repins). The searches depend on accurate descriptions! If one post a picture and the description is "so cute," then how does one ever successfully find that picture in a search? Bad descriptions drive me absolutely bonkers!!!

  25. I have read your post and comments and find it all very (p)interesting. I have not jumped on the Pinterest band wagon because I know, without a doubt, I would be instantly hooked. The last thing I need is one more excuse to be glued to the computer chair. Therefore, I can offer no tips today.
I have glanced at other peoples boards from time to time and can totally understand the fascination with it all.
Beautiful daffodils, by the way :)

  26. Yes, I am on Pinterest--personally and Stick Horse Cowgirls, though I haven't been too active lately! Maybe later today! I do love it, because I am visually oriented and I love the idea of all the stuff I will never make! I have found a few recipes and have not been disappointed!

  28. What? You scoff at a brownie in a mug? ;D Well, I cannot speak for brownies, but my daughter DID try this cake in a mug with good results. It is, however, VERY rich -- and I could only have a tiny bit at a time. I love Pinterest -- but go in stages with it. Sometimes I browse on Pinterest if I'm really looking for something. Most of the time, I use it to "save" ideas that I see in my blog-reading. It's a fantastic virtual scrapbook!

  29. I am on Pinterest and really enjoy it! I'll go look for you! Love the daffodils.

  30. I have never really visited Pinterest. I think I will go look for you!

  31. I'm on pinterest less now a days than we I first started. They do have lots of interesting and pretty things to see...

  32. The daffodils are so pretty. I can't wait to see some growing in the ground!!

I'm not on Pinterest and have only looked around on it one time. Maybe it's time I check it out more closely.

  33. I am on Pinterest daily. I am following you there. Check out my boards when you have a chance. It is very inspiring and I really like the fact that you can choose what you like: decor, food, cleaning, etc.

    Blessings,

  34. Wow, what a discussion. I have not joined Pinterest because of the time factor several comments indicated. Didn't realize there is a follower aspect to it as well and I have read somewhere that people will pin photos from your blog and not give you credit.

  35. I used to spend a lot more time on pinterest than I do now. I need to clean up some of my boards as they are as cluttered as my files at home. I have known some who seriously must spend their entire day there. How can you be productive or even be able to find your pins if you have 25,000 of them. I'd recommend not getting carried away by pinning thousands of things that you'll never be able to use or find again. Stick to what interests you and what is manageable. Also, be wary of the site you're pin leads to. Sometimes they are less than reputable. There's much more that I've learned but don't want to overflow your comment box Vee. Maybe I'll do a post soon on some pinterest tips. Thanks for all the lovely photos that you share here. It's a pleasant place to visit. ~ Abby

  36. Woo Hoo!

I go on my boards about once a week - perhaps more if I am out and need to do something while waiting - I have the app on my iphone.

Pinterest is where I found the Slider recipe, and I have used the cleaner for the shower regularly as I found it worked very well to clean ours! I pin flowers, decor ideas for the home or outside, wedding ideas (I do have FOUR daughters!) sewing, knitting....

It's a great place to keep ideas!

    Have fun!

  37. I got hooked on Pinterest last year and I love it. I have over 4000 Pins and I spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour during the week and on the weekend maybe longer. I love to find recipes, crafting, sewing, home decor, jewelry, quotes & sayings, Autumn, Cleaning Tips, Christmas and more. It's so fun and very useful. Karen Hansen

  38. I've peeked in at Pinterest several times and see that I could easily get very attached to it. There is just a wealth of beautiful ideas, recipes, etc. to be found there. I limit my time spent there because I could easily get hooked and I have all these magazines to go through first! I'm going to do a post soon on what I'm doing with them. If I ever get to the bottom of the stack, er..stacks, then look out Pinterest!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love Pinterest! To me it is just as relaxing as thumbing through a magazine..and it's free and doesn't clutter up my house! I was always the type to clip things out of newspapers and magazines and put them in "to do" folders, and Pinterest is another way to do that. I have to admit I can get lost for hours on it so I try to limit my views now a days. I think the best thing to do is organize boards in the beginning. If you pin all food under a broad category of "Food" pretty soon you will have too much in that board and it will be hard to find what you want.
I think Pinterest has a page on pinning etiquette on the bottom of their "basics" page. I have found that some pins are spam or go to just a photo and no text. T always report spam or bogus pins to Pinterest. I also try to look at the source of the pin before I pin it. Too many will click through to Tumblr or Google and therefore have no source --I've learned to try not to re-pin those pins if I see that.

Have fun and enjoy it, Vee! There are lots of fun ideas to do with the grandchildren on Pinterest!

  40. I clicked your link, and went to your Board... Very pretty...

    But I don't Pin.

I (personally) still can't see the point. For those who love it, hooray! For me, it's just another PLACE. To have to maintain, myself. To have to visit, the Pins of others. Etc. More time consuming...

I use my regular blog, for everything I am interested in. All in one place. Plus links to my Book Blog, for anyone interested in book reviews.

    Just me!

But you asked me to *talk to you,* about Pinterest, and I did.

    :-)

  41. I just browse a topic to kill time or when I need some visual goodies to enjoy. I was so surprised to find my photos being pinned by many people and am quite flattered to find my photos worthy of being pinned to your board.
The hints on whitening pillows is great; I have lots of pillows of varying density to offer guests and several of them are so yellowed I was reluctant to offer them. Household hints are so great!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Love pinterest, Vee! So glad you joined the party! I do lots of hopping around on there and find household hints, great recipes, fantasy kitchens and farmhouse living, gardening. Most of these things I'll probably never get to, but they give me ideas that I can use for other things maybe. I've used several recipes. Found lots of great websites and new blogs to enjoy, too. I suppose there is some Pinterest etiquette. At first I tried to connect back to the original post or picture and give original credit, but sometimes you go back 10-15 or more sites and you can never find the original and sometimes I just give up. Too time-consuming. Computering eats up WAY too much of my time anyway. There, I've confessed. I do the best I can. But I love it, and I see that you're loving it, too.

Tony indexes the same way that John does. Be sure and tell John... :)

  43. Vee, I find pinterest my last stop of the evening when I have no energy left to comment or reply. I like that I can just pin and go and enjoy the beautiful pictures.
It's been a busy week and finally catching up on your neck of the woods.
