Radio Disguise

It all began when I wanted to disguise the radio. How, exactly, does one disguise a radio? They're a lot like television sets in that, if one actually uses one (we do every single day), they must be where they can be accessed.

Anyway, as most things do, one thing led to another and pretty soon I was cleaning and puttering and finding things to "disguise" the radio. Now I know that this is a case of The Emperor Has No Clothes since you can very plainly see it. ☺

I found my chalkboard art at Stephanie's Cottage Thoughts via her mom's blog Coffee Tea Books and Me.

Do you see that book disguising the radio? That's Elizabeth Goudge's A Book of Comfort, an anthology of her favorite poems and essays. That the former owner made little notations throughout is an extra blessing.

John found it for me at a flea market and the proprietor kindly gave it to him. I am so impressed with John for remembering the author's name because searching for Goudge books was a long time ago.

A wonderful Tuesday to you...

    Nice disguise.

  3. Looks like you had a fun time puttering around disguising your radio. You've got me interested in Goudge books, but they are hard to find.

  4. I think all those pretty treasures look just perfect, Vee, and one hardly notices the radio. The bunny with straw hat is precious, and I love your tole tray, little crystal basket, and chalkboard. The book is definitely special with the notations by the original owner.

    Have a wonderful day, Vee!

  7. I finally spotted the radio! It's cute and vintage, I wouldn't exactly hide it. I had an old garage radio in my kitchen at the lake, right out in the open. It never failed to get people dancing and singing!

  9. The radio looks vintage on the shelf among the books. This stirred up a memory for me of the radio on top of the "ice box' when I was growing up. Daddy turned it on every morning to the local AM radio station to hear about the weather & other local & state news. Of course this was before the days of morning talk shows on TV. Thanks for stirring up a memory!

    Smiles,

  10. Sweet of John, to get that for you. So sweet, that he remembered that you would want it.

Now, why disguise a radio? I know, I know. Just because you wanted to. But I don't need to disguise radio or tv, so, I ask. :-)

A thought... Are there radio vents, under that book?

    Gentle hugs,

  11. Your disguise works well, because the radio was the last thing I noticed when looking at your shelves. I haven't heard of Goudge, but she sounds like someone I would enjoy reading. Your John is definitely a keeper to remember and get the book for you.

  12. I love your disguise. Like you, I desire disguise. My sons, on the other hand, are trying to teach me the value and beauty in high-tech electronics --- which they say has a beauty all its own. :D

  13. Your radio is not what I look at so you have disguised it well. The beautiful chalkboard art jumps out to say hello. Good for your John on the Goudge find. My husband looks for them and a few other authors. It's always nice to have a small purpose when meandering through junque shops.

And did I saw your new spring header is just amazing? So cheery!

  14. My eye was drawn to the chalkboard art, Vee. I love the verse from the old hymn and the way you scripted it. Yes, I think your radio is hidden in plain sight. Well done! :)

    1. No, I did not script it...see link to Stephanie's. ☺

  15. Vee
Just when we think those fellows aren't listening, they go and surprise us!
I am throughly impressed with John.
I like the verse you have chosen for your chalk art. That would've taken me all day to master. My writing is abominable!

  16. I LOVE Elizabeth Goudge - one of my very favourite authors. It's hard to find anyone now who writes beautiful fiction as she did.

  17. It does look nice now. I love books in every decor. Now if you turn the volume up...you may just bounce that book on the floor though! heehee! Sweet hugs!

  18. As long as the book sitting up there doesn't make it overheat!

  19. Great job on the disquise Vee! I love your arrangement of books and lovely things! Don't notice the radio at all. I have not heard of Goughe and will have to explore further. Have a great week!!

  20. Books make a wonderful disguise and this book was a wonderful find by John! I think sometimes books are meant to find us and this one was certainly meant for one who would love it like you do, Vee! The chalkboard art is so pretty --I will have to check out Stephanie's blog!

  21. I had to look twice for the radio so it worked! Have not read that Goudge book, something to go check out I am certain. ;)

I have a feeling Steph will be making more blackboard art. Her degree is in Interior Design (a pre-architecture program at the University) and she loves to be creative. It's not always possible with five children, four of whom she is homeschooling. This can all be done with the computer (which is why she also switched to digital scrapbooking). A good way to keep her sanity, especially at the end of a very long New England winter.

  22. Aren't you clever!! : )
The shelf looks really nice with your treasures on it.

  23. The invisible radio. Love it!
And I like your choice of open book text. I believe in God. I believe God.

  24. You know what they say... the eye goes to color. In this case my eye went right to the beautiful tray and then the lovely chalkboard and finally to the bunny. Not sure I'd have noticed there was a radio up there. Very nice disguise.

  25. Don't see the radio Vee!!
But I do see all the neat
    treasures you have!! I
    just love that sweet
    bunny!!

  26. Love the notations in the book! :) And you know what? I honestly had to go back and look very closely at the first picture to find the radio! haha! It's camo'ed well, and in a beautiful way! Love that tole tray! I just hung one to add to my collection in the kitchen earlier today! :)

  27. Well Vee, at least your radio is small enough to camouflage. The one hubby bought me for Christmas years ago is what you'd describe as a 'big honkin' thing' and even our daughter commented on the size of it (and 2 big speakers) recently. It sits in front of the picture window in the kitchen and I'd either like to hide it somewhere or really downsize.
I think yours looks at home tucked amongst some books, and good on John for finding you the collector's item.

  30. I totally did not see it at first...Good job! I love that scripts, that would make a good sampler to hang on the wall.

What a great tole painted tray!

  33. Maybe you could make a mini tri-fold screen for it! LOL!! So sweet of your hubby, now that's love!

  34. I get it, I really do! I wish I could disguise a 52" TV.

  35. I think you did a lovely job of disguising your radio! I am all about hiding or disguising "ugly stuff"...not that your radio is ugly, but you know what I mean! Your shelf looks so cheery, and the eye is certainly drawn to the fabulous chalkboard art rather than the radio.

Kudos to John for remembering. So sweet...

  36. I do believe anyone visiting would not notice the radio. My eyes were drawn to the books, chalkboard, the tray, basket, bunny...all before I noticed the radio. You disguised it well!

  37. I think John and my Mr P. are related, they both are so thoughtful! I hardly noticed the radio as I was busy admiring all your pretties! You home is so cozy, I want to live there. Read your previous posts and was so blessed.
Have a blessed day hope you are seeing more springtime.

  40. A good disguise...and a good gift from John! My radio is in the closet...down the hall...in the laundry room. It comes out when the power goes off (battery operated). I listen to the radio in my car...and sometimes live-streaming on the computer. 'The times...they are a'changin.'

  41. Popping in to say "Happy Easter" to you and John! Love the look over here, so colorful and full of Spring and Easter decor`.

The birds are returning ... Spring is in the air here in Montana!

    Blessings...

  42. Your radio looks fine right where it's at. I listen to mine every single day, too, and never even THOUGHT about trying to hide it. :))

and...I'VE LOST MY BLOG...only tons of photos appear on it...where could it be??? If it is gone forever, I bid you farewell because I am too olden to start over now. bwaaaaaaa....I am in Panic Mode. I don't know where to look for it.

  43. What a lovely gift from your husband! Very thoughtful of him.

Your radio isn't noticeable at all. My eye is drawn to the tole tray and that great printable. Very pretty Vee!

  45. Well, I came here early this morning, read this, loved everything, and went la dee da off to get some chalkboard looking printables from the link. I loved that and only partly because it's one of my favorite hymns. I think you did a wonderful job and I would love it even if there were no camouflage involved at all.

I just apparently forgot to comment this AM since this was up on my screen when I got home. I'm such a dip.

  46. How lovely to have that book, though I don't understand why you would want to disguise the radio.
