This and That

God doesn't have to put His name on a label in the corner of a meadow because nobody else makes meadows. ~Cecil Laird

This photo was taken the same day as yesterday's. We had stopped at a roadside farm to purchase ice creams for John and me and a milkshake for one thirsty boy.

While seated at the picnic tables, I learned that my darling grand has moved beyond magical thinking. The crib down in the lower field looks much like Toby of Thomas and Friends fame; however, I soon learned that the days of chatting about Thomas have left the station. Just when I learn what the grands are "into," I must up my game. They don't stand still.

Do you enjoy signs as much as I do? Do you ever share them on your blog? This one reminds me that I've been wanting a good fish chowder and that I'll be returning here for some haddock. Hmmm...they must have lost the k.

Guess that's it for today...the sun is shining and that means we must make hay.

  1. I love the photo of the meadow, it looks like a perfect place for a picnic. It is hard to keep up with the latest interest of the grands. My grandson went from dinosaurs to ninjagos (lego ninjas) in a blink. I didn't even know what he was talking about...your right they don't stand still, keeps me on my toes!

  2. You are having delicious days of summer! Alas, here in Ohio we don't really have many signs like that! No Lobster signs, certainly! And not much in the way of "Haddoc" even with a "k". But we do have wonderful fruit and vegetables. And great cheese.

My granddaughters are still much into princesses and birds and animals. Stephen adores all manner of trucks and diggers. But Nathan who is eight and a half has certainly changed in his interests though still my sweet little boy!

  3. I love taking pictures of signs tho I don't always post them, I just figured no one would see what I see in them. I love this, and I think I'm going to start posting my sign shots. Have a wonderful week, we are off to Arkansas for short vacation tomorrow.

  4. Makes me want some ice cream, that's for sure. I like chocolate malts. Mmmmm! There's a little store in Twin Falls, Idaho called Crowley's that makes the best I've ever tasted and has delightful signs advertising them outside. You cannot resist.

  5. They grow and change so quickly!

How could he leave Thomas in the dust! Oh!

That meadow is so beautiful, and I like that quote. I don't usually put signs on my blog though I like to see them on others!

We're back in the school routine....I like it.

Today after schoolwork is done and Lindsay has been to therapy, Rachel and I are going shopping for Kyle who will be eight on Saturday!

    Have a lovely day!

  6. Good morning! I hear you on keeping up with those grands, haha!! I struggle to keep on top of it...but I am usually a little behind. ; ). I love signs, but can't say as I take pictures of them, though it is a good idea. Love the meadow shot btw. Enjoy your day!

I just remembered I took a pic of a sign welcoming us back to California after a LONG trip back from Mel's. haha Texted it to her saying..."we're back!"

  7. The first photo would make a beautiful note card...hhhmmmm! What a lovely place! And yes, I love signs! I can't wait to get out and travel more. Enjoy your day sweet lady! Southern hugs, Diane

  8. Isn't it so easy to lose track of the latest thing? Oh, they do grow so quickly! Sigh...

I notice signs all the time. I'm afraid I particularly notice them when they have a grammatical or spelling error. Oh dear. Bekah's "specialty" is noticing signs with lighted letters, with some of the letters unlit. She never misses one. I'll be driving along and she'll pipe up from the back seat with "Sars." What? (I never learn. I always wonder what in the world she is talking about.) Come to find out, the sign for "Sears" has an "e" with the bulb(s) burnt out. Some are quite interesting...especially when most of the vowels are gone!

  9. Oh, thank you for taking us on your little jaunt into the countryside! I adore signs too and have featured several on my blog. Signs would be good subject matter for whenever we have a photo challenge for "words and letters" (probably scheduled sometime this winter).

  10. Little boys and girls grow so quickly, don't they? My oldest grandson informed me that he is a "scientist" and that he needs to learn more about science matters. He 'll accept playimg Legos as part of learning science...lol

I miss fresh lobster and clams...and soft shell crabs. It's difficult to find them here.

Enjoy these fleeting days of summer!

  11. Kids grow up so fast. Working in a kindergarten/first grade building, I see it every day!!

LOVE signs and do post them as I find ones that are postable!!

Can you tell me more about the note card party?

  12. Ok, I figured out the link. Sounds like a lot of fun! I may give it a try!

  13. When I think of meadows, I'm always reminded of Tasha Tudor.

If we had signs that were as interesting as the ones in the picture you posted, I would definitely take pictures. Maybe I haven't taken the time to look, I'll do that.

What are the boys interested in now? Our little grandson has an upcoming birthday and I received a list of what he's hoping will find its way to his house on that special day.

  14. I love lazy day drives and stopping for ice cream too, but more so lunch. I've not eaten a lot of fish in my lifetime so would never crave a fish chowder.
Our grands are all into technology and have iPods and iPads stuck in their faces all the time. "Call your brother for dinner" means texting him. I don't think I like where this generation is headed.
Cool but sunny and we're soon heading out for another afternoon of summer theatre, this time a comedy.

  15. What a great concept, a farm that sells ice cream. I may have to do a painting like that sometime. I love the sign!

  16. I do love a good sign and when there are flagrant errors in spelling or punctuation I really want to pull my camera out! Things just don't sit still and kids especially don't sit still...

  17. They are finished with Thomas? How quickly they move on I guess. Just hang on and see what's next. Enjoyed the signs.

  18. I know whereof you speak...with the grands always moving on to the next page!

So where are you making hay today? Our hay quit growing...since there has been no rain since June. It is the driest July on record.

    1. Our farmers are equally stressed...hay beaten down by rain and rotting in the fields...straight to silage. It has rained every single day in July at some point. Even now the showers are moving in...

  19. Vee, I surely wish I lived in a part of the country that had what is listed on those signs.. :-) We have watermelon and peanuts on all of our signs. Yes, I do love signs..these are great..and I know what you mean about grandchildren moving F.A.S.T..hard to keep up.....
    Love, Mona

  20. That first shot is so pretty! I love signs and never think to take a pic of them. Thanks for the reminder!

I do wish we had lobster around here. And I really love a good clam chowder. Yummm. Now I'm hungry.

  21. What a beautiful meadow! I have nieces and great nieces and it is difficult to keep up with their changing tastes! I feel so OLD!
I do love signs. I was watching the tv show Pickers last night and they found a treasure trove of old signs!

  22. You know Vee...one day my baby boy was a baby, and now..he no longer plays with Thomas the Tank or any toys, he is off to college. I feel so old. At least I have my grand nieces, who are just plain a bundle of joy. I so love your photos you post. Thank you.

  23. Sounds like a lovely summer outing and the meadow is gorgeous. I saved my son's Thomas the Tank Engine books and look forward to reading them to my grandson one day.
I do enjoy signs, but don't think I've ever used them in a post. I think we should have a post-a-sign day where we all post a sign with some significance to our area and then try to guess each others location. Don't know if that made a lick of sense. Most likely not, but it came to mind when I saw lobster and instantly associated it with Maine.

  24. Delightful summer scenes. I love the meadow. Yes, it seems like summer is really speeding by this year. It started so late.

  25. Beautiful photos! And I just love that quote. I don't know how anyone can look at anything in nature and not see the handprints of God.

And though I don't have grandchildren yet, I well remember those days of changing *fancies* with my sons - and yes, the bittersweet moment when they outgrew the childhood toys!

    GOD BLESS!

    1. It's homemade ice cream, too. John had black raspberry and I had an almond joy...tasted just like one, too. The grand went for a vanilla shake. ; D

How wonderful to live where you can buy fresh seafood.

  34. Hi Vee!

What fun! Eating ice cream, playing with the grands - even if they don't stand still for a moment! Memories in the making!

I love fish chowder - please share your recipe! We don't get much fresh fish here in, Idaho, but I love to dream... ;0)
I love signs, but usually don't have my camera when I see a funny one, or an interesting one.

    Love the quote!!

  35. Hi Vee,

Meadows that beautiful are worth photographing, and ice cream on top surely makes for a lovely day. Enjoy your summer days. It's finally been lovely weather here. We had scorching days this summer.

  36. Outings that include ice cream are always more fun. I read which flavours you had - sounds yummy!
Grandchildren, like children, do change all the time. But I wonder if grandchildren seem to change faster?
Love the sign - you've given me an idea.

  37. I love the scenery in the top photo Vee and the signs are quite interesting. Oh how children grow up so fast and change from one favourite thing to the next. Enjoy the sunshine and I do hope it lasts! Hugs. Pam

  38. Your photo is stunning, and the only thing I like better is the quote to go with it. What an AMEN quote!!

I giggled about keeping up with the grands. I have heard it is nearly impossible but awfully fun to try.

I missed yesterday's post so need to go back to sort of get a part one.

  39. Vee, this meadow photo is beautiful! I also love the quote that goes with it. :)

We were big Thomas the Tank Engine fans when our son was little; I still miss those sweet days. You are SO right -- that crib does look like Toby! It made me smile when I saw it. :-D

I, too, love signs. How funny that they lost the "k" in haddock. :-D There are a few signs that we pass every year on our way to the beach that are classics and always make us laugh. I'll have to share them on the blog sometime.

    Hugs to you,

    Denise at Forest Manor
