Frazzled

Feeling frazzled...whenever that happens, it's time to slow down, speed up or do something differently.

I have been puttering on the blog for days now and finally had the blog basement in some semblance of order. Then pffftttt...something happened this morning and everything went crazy. I had merely shifted the sidebar on the right to the left and somehow doing that (and then changing it back again) took away my background, sizes, colors, and created general mayhem. I have tried resetting them, reinstalling the background, and calming down with chamomile tea. A blog really shouldn't be this exasperating. Should it? Have you ever had these difficulties?

So Blogger is not happy with me and I am not happy with it. If I can get it straightened out, I'll be back. If I can't, I'm walking off in complete and total disgust.

I could handle having any color I wanted when it was green, but I can not handle having any color I want if it is blue, especially that blue. Deal breakers can happen over the simplest of things.

If anyone has a tip for me, feel free to leave it. I already know not to bet the horses. ☺

Love to you...

Love Vee

  1. Aww, Vee....that's how I feel about my blasted dash! It is just not changing. I do feel for you, but you mustn't give up We Need You! Sit, put your feet up and have some more tea! We'll all be here when your ready to come back! Now.....breathe......

  2. Oh Vee, I feel for you but I don't have any suggestions. I'm not good when it comes to the technical things of blogging. That's why I rarely change anything on it. I do need to make a new header though.
Take a break, have more tea, and come back to it later.

  3. That is exactly why I hold my breath when I tweak anything, having had it all go weird on me before. I remember one of my blog friends who accidentally deleted her blog while trying to tweak it.

Over the weekend, I increased the font and was hoping it didn't do anything else.

  4. I learned early on to not change my layout around too much. I messed my recipe blog so bad that I had to close it out and transfer all of my recipes to a new blog. I hope you get it all straightened out.

  5. I wish I could help, but I have left my blog the same for so long that I am not sure how to do anything. I was planning on changing my blog look, now I am a little scared to do it...

Hope you can get it all fixed.

  6. I had the same difficulties with blogger as well. One time when I got on my blog my background was completely gone and the photos on my sidebar were all too big. It literally took me all day to figure out the issues - it was quite frustrating! I don't really have any tips ... just keep working on it and hopefully blogger will pull through. So sorry, Vee! Hugs to you!

  7. How about any colour you want...if it is white? It looks quite quiet and clean today. I had a panic attack the last time I tried changing the template. The margins were all askew and I didn't think I would ever get things lined up again. Since then I have only changed colours...and nothing else!

    Enjoy your tea-sipping Monday!

  8. I've learned that less is more, with blogging. I rely on others to help me with headers, etc. I think Blogger takes a hissy fit with changes sometimes. I see an all white background. Looks fine. xo.

  9. I'm so sorry for you, dear Vee! But praying that you don't stop blogging because your blog is lovely! Yes!
I can't offer advice because I still don't even know how to put a blogroll on my wordpress blog.....And now that I have had to buy a new computer with Windows 8 I am truly struggling. (Though ever so slowly figuring out one thing at a time.) I hope with a quiet day of tea and contemplation you will be happy with your blog again and in control of it! But I'm so sorry you're having all this fuss and botheration.

  10. This blogger is smiling, cause really those who know me well understand already that it's sometimes just luck that my posts even publish:) I loved the new fresh crisp look when I arrived here this morning. All the best on this first full day of autumn.

  11. I'm sorry, Vee. Wish I could help, but I avoid tweaking my blog too much, fearing this same thing might happen. You do know that we come here to visit because we like your well-expressed thoughts and outlook on life and not because of the color of the background?
Breathe deeply. All will be well.

  12. Sorry not to be able to offer advice. Almost all technical issues on my blog are solved by me whimpering and Kati coming to my rescue. If only I could loan you a daughter...

Rethinking this...maybe me advice would be to step away from the design part for a few days (it really does look fine here, although it does not have the charming personal touches that make it "you"), and then maybe you can look through fresh eyes for a solution. Techie stuff is the most infuriating thing!

That said, I probably wouldn't take that advice if it were given to me. I'd do the same thing that you're doing...get exasperated and feel ready to throw in the towel! (But please don't!)

    Hugs...

  13. Hello Vee
I can sympathize, been frazzled and refuse to go there any more. A couple of years ago I felt it was easier to hire a professional who could work wonders on a blog. I'm not very good at stuff, as you can tell by the questions I've asked you before and yes, I have to pay for the peace of mind, but feel it is worth every penny. Every so often I contact Karen again to tweak something I want changed.
Good luck sorting things out - and like the other gals, I feel your blog looks fine today.

  14. Oh dear, Vee. I had the same problem when I changed up my blog a while back. I was on the PC and I was so frustrated and I was crying and u.g.l.y. Poor Murray. He didn't know what to say or do. I left it over night and went back at it and it worked out but I don't have any advice for you my friend. Just keep trying. And I won't be changing anything on my blog other than my header picture. Ever! Well, I say that now. I may come to that one one. I don't mind a plain white page. That's what I switched to but with a pale aqua background for the main page where my text and photos are. Hang in there. Maybe try coffee?? :) And please don't give up. (I know I felt like it too) Love and hugs. Pam

  15. I join the chorus of "Pleasure do not stop blogging." You are one of our favorites. All I know to do is go to the template and follow the signs. I think sometimes Blogger just gets messed up and if you wait it will straighten out. I have seen your blog in a lot of different styles etc, so you know how to do it. Just walk away and be sure to come back.

  16. Hi Vee! Take a deep breath and leave things alone until you feel good and ready to tackle it again. Your blog looks fine just as it is. I've found changing things on blogger is hit and miss. Some days it works and some days you just tear your hair out! Please don't give up blogging! We need your voice here!

Wish I could help ... instead I'm sending lots of hugs your way!!!

    xoxo

    Enjoy your tea!

  18. Oh Vee, I feel your pain. I've pulled some doozies in the past when I was trying to change the layout of my blog. Sometimes I wasn't even trying to change the layout, just add a new header, and I ended up with no header until my husband got home from work and helped me fix it. This new keyboard we have is laid out rather oddly (my husband even agrees on that) and I often hit crazy buttons when I'm typing fast. One time I shrunk my font to be REALLY small just by hitting an unintended button. He had to fix that too. :) Thankfully, I've learned a lot by trial and error and by looking at tutorials online. There are a lot of tutorials out there if you would want to try reading one of those; I've found them to be really helpful.

I agree with the other women that we DON'T want you to quit blogging!! Please! Honestly, I think your blog looks fine, but I understand how you feel; you want to be happy with the way it looks to you. We love your wonderful commentary on life and your Note Card party. Do you have a friend or relative nearby who could help?

    Keep us posted!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  19. I'm not sure what advice to give but your blog looks nice even if you don't think so. I do have a practice blog, do you? Where I can try things out before I do on the real blog. Blogger does seem to have a strong personality. But I've been getting some spam comments lately and I'm quite pleased that they are not allowing them to appear on my blog. But whatever you do, don't quit. (hey your comment area looks different too).

  20. I have no technical advice to offer. The frazzled bit -- I would say leave it alone for a few days. Sometimes giving your mind a rest from a particular problem will allow you to think of a way to solve it.

  21. Oh, how frustrating! It always makes me a bit nervous to start changing things around. It seems to be a gamble as to the outcome. I'm currently a bit frazzled here with PicMonkey headers.
I hope you are able to get everything figured out soon. I agree that a blog shouldn't cause exasperation to this level. I also agree that we would be happy to visit you no matter what your blog looked like.

  22. Like so many others, I am no help technically. So sorry about all the frustrations. Take a break from it all and try again another day. I miss your posts...but don't make yourself sick.

  23. Hi Vee! Oh brother, you should have seen me trying to put on a new header. I wish I was better at this stuff. I got so involved in it, it took literally hours because I am so pathetic. Maybe a professional is the way to go? I don't know how much they cost, but I have thought about it at times.

Walking away is so hard when you are in the throes of trying to make it work. But it might help you keep your sanity. Hang in there. As you can see, we all seem to have hit the wall like you did!

  25. Well Friend, I don't know what look you were going for, but this looks beautiful. Now you know why my blog stays the same when everyone else changes theirs up seasonally. I think that I don't have enough hair on my head for all of those hair-pulling changes! You did save the template before you started right? Can't you just revert back to it & try again (or not)? I always save my template before changes, but I've never had to actually revert to an old template. I usually end up googling anything I don't know about & hoping for the best. Deep breaths. It's all still here. That's what counts!

  26. Oh boy, am I ever frazzled with work! All I want to do is explore our new environment, but work calls my name and I'm stuck in the studio; which I thought I'd never say in a negative way:-( Time, to change things up a bit. Thanks for the encouragement, XOXO

  27. Trust and pray dear Vee - I'm sure we must have ONE savvy blogger in our flock, I'm only sorry it's not me.
I'm a tweaker at times too and get myself in all kinds of trouble!
I've tried and tried to re-do my header but it seems to be set in concrete as it is.
I managed a Christmas angel header several years ago but blogger wouldn't let me do it last year....
    I'm mystified too.
You've obviously googled "how do I....... in blogger?? Sometimes there's a straight forward solution - other times it's too complicated for my tiny brain to comprehend.
Don't walk away dear Vee - I enjoy your posts so much.
    Frustrated hugs

  30. Blogger has been giving me hissy fits too! I consulted a friend who really knows the ins and outs and she does professional web design, she has been trying to tweak a customers blog on Blogger and said they must be making some changes because it would not let her do something to the sidebar or the header. She came and took a look at my problem of the sign in bar not loading when my blog does and she had no explanation. I was able to access my blog today but kept getting an error in photo loading, sigh! I think I need a break too, care to join me for a cup of tea?

  31. And that is exactly why I have given up updating my blog scenery. Technology pushes my buttons. I am not fun to be around with my buttons pushed!

  32. Oh yes, I've been there before too. So very frustrating and so time consuming!!!

  34. Oh Vee I feel your pain. I have a practice blog that is private for me and that is where I practice when I start to make serious changes. but I still cannot figure out a lot of things...blogger seems to be kinda obstinate lately...so I am laying low and keeping things the same for now. I have a blog post from years ago about making a header ..She wrote a tutorial and I used it until I learned how.. and PLEASE do not quit..you are one of the best in blogland..and you would be terribly terribly missed.....google your questions and see if you get answers like that....

  35. Oh Vee it does seem as if we have had similar frustrating days...sometimes computer and blog issues just drive me wild, haha. I am STILL in the constant search of how to make my pictures bigger....some posts I have seen have the PERFECT sized pictures...yours for one. Now WHY can't I figure it out? Oh well, tomorrow is another day! : )

  36. I have no help for you, Vee...so sorry. I don't change anything on my blog except the face of it...the simple things. I don';t go into HTML (reason I don;t have a PIN IT button) so I've not had much trouble.
I am taking a few days off...this moving is killing us and I'm to tired at night to answer comments and such....will be back in a few days tho.
Love ya...and hope you get things straightened out....

  38. Hi Vee, here's my two cents, I thought your blog design was perfect before any changes, always so warm and inviting. I come to visit you, and to listen to your words of wisdom, and your love of home and family, I always leave so inspired. I would love to help with the tech. part but am not tech. savvy, good luck, You always figure things out and are always so willing to share, and that's makes you special.

  39. Hi, Miz Vee. I know how infuriating it can be when things like this go awry. Let me try to put my problem solver hat on for you. Did you ever save a copy of your template? I had a blog post on how to do that a couple months ago. If you did, then you can import it back. I think you were using the old blogger template and once you fiddled with the margins, then the coding got messed up. Unless you kept a copy of the old HTML template code, I don't know how you can get it back. There are many new template styles and you don't have to be locked into only a blue one.

  40. Oh my--I'm so sorry you have been having all this trouble, Vee! I'm sure you've noticed that I hardly ever, ever change my blog. I am just too afraid to touch anything, in fear I'll mess it all up. I need a new header soon and even that will give me headaches as I can never size them right. Think of of all the trouble as a challenge, Vee--mental exercise that is keeping your brain young! I know you'll find a solution!

  41. It looks good right now - music sheet background, so I don't know if this is after a fix or not. Technology can be exasperating, but it's wonderful too!

We love you and don't want you to leave us. We'd be sad and cry and you don't want to see us cry do you?!

    Hope it's all better now.

  42. Something like that did happen to me a few years back. After I threw a fit or two and went into heavy depression over it, it finally all came back by itself in a few days. I don't know why that happens. But I don't ever want it to happen again! :)

  46. Ok Vee, your blog is fixed. I worked on it last night. I left it so your can add your own headers and change out the backgrounds when you want. Your dreaded little grey box around your signature is gone. I also gave you a fancier font for your posts. In addition, I centered your header. I am happy to help. After reading many of your blogger's comments, I feel there is a great need of my services. Continue to blog and be happy. hugs, Linda, your Fairy Blog Mother and newest follower.

I hadn't changed my header for a whole year or more,,,so I am glad I managed to change it without deleting my whole page!! Enjoy your day!
