A Haven for Vee

An Experiment of Another Sort

There are days when I feel like pitching everything in my house out the door and starting over. I would like to think that not everything would be dragged back in; unfortunately, I know from experience that it would all be back plus a little extra. This works for any weight loss plan I've ever been on, too, but that is neither here nor there.

Here's a case in point. I wanted to share how cute the bittersweet was in my brown transferware pitcher previously just filled with branches. The pitcher is something that my grandmother found in the attic of my grandfather's homestead. He gave it to her because she liked it so. That's neither here nor there either. The point I'm trying to make is that there was too much going on. Way too much going on. I had no idea until I looked at this picture.

 ~a titch busy~

Ahhhh...now that's better.

If you didn't get a chance to swing by yesterday, I added some extra photos to my bittersweet post showing some small changes.

For Photo Friday tomorrow, I'm going to share my bittersweet source...sort of.

Enjoy a blessed day!

  2. I didn't think it was busy at all. AND I thought I was the only one who felt like pitching everything out the front door-lol!-Have a Blessed day.

  3. I love that pitcher! It is pitcher perfect to me especially with the added bittersweet. And yes, I can see what you mean by a bit too much on the cupboard. Sometimes it's good to edit things out like that and it's too bad we can't edit the pounds off our bodies as easily. I love the addition of the bittersweet on your light fixture by the back door. And your bow is very minimalistic. LOL Enjoy the day.

  4. How well I know that feeling of wanting to pitch everything out the door in favor of a fresh start.
Your pitcher is a beauty and goes so well with the branches and bittersweet. How special that it has a sweet story attached.
I do like your improvement in the second photo. The eye seems to go right to the pitcher and it deserves to be highlighted. I have noticed how it is easier to critique things like this from a photo as opposed to looking at them in "person".

  5. I absolutely LOVE the pitcher, anything brown will draw me in. I have a blue one from my grandmother. Your clock there is very similar to the one I have in my home. My parents found it in an antique shop when I was a young girl and now I have it, and it still works, one of my sons will be getting it when I am ready to give it up. I don't mind the busy shot, I tend to be a "busy" kind of gal around here :)

  6. Oh, don't pitch your pitcher! It is lovely...and made even more lovely by that wonderful bittersweet! About the "busyness"...I am always tweaking and rearranging until I get things just right. (I also have girls who will tell me if they think something is too busy. They're helpful that way. ~wink~)

I returned to yesterday's post and I do like the bittersweet around the light. And I agree with Podso that the door, with its lovely color, stands alone and is a contrast to the autumn color. Cozy, pretty, welcoming entry...check!

P.S, I believe I could be convinced to work on my Maine accent...

  7. It's hard to get rid of "keepsakes" which is a word I never dissected until now--keep for the sake of it? But those things that have stories are so meaningful. Especially if you can pass the stories on. I told granddaughter the story of my mother's broken lamp recently. I'll repeat it often and maybe some day the lamp will mean something to her. It's interesting how a photo will give a better eye on something (LOL our weight included) … and I like how you tweaked it.

  8. Love that pretty pitcher...
Ever so often, I take photos of my rooms...sometimes I am SHOCKED at how I have waaay too much going on. So, of course, I spend the rest of the day trying to clean out clutter.
The thing I am really bad at is that I have too many different STYLES going on in the same room. I tend to use things I love and sometimes, they are way too wide apart in style. The bedroom I'm working on at the moment looks like something out of a cartoon.......*heavy sigh.....too many other things to worry about than THAT, tho.

  9. What a lovely pitcher and so neat that it is a family heirloom. I love bittersweet and would love to find some around here.

I always fiddle around with my treasures, moving them here and there. Sometimes I move them to a completely different room, making everything fresh and new.

  10. I can't believe I have missed three of your posts, enjoyed your Frosty Morn, and your bittersweet, I have always wanted to find bittersweet growing wild,no such luck, so I guess I will have to look for a plant to plant in the garden. I think most could relate to wanting to throw away and start over, I have many times, and did take away, and stored it, only to find myself bringing it back in! The final note is, we girls just like stuff, and you have some beautiful treasures, especially the pitcher with lovely memories, so glad you now have it. I tried to focus on the pitcher with bittersweet, but my eyes kept going to the clock, I guess you remember me telling you I have one exactly like it, the difference is yours probably works. ~smile~
You asked about the roof, it is finished,Yay!! Today we will be cleaning the porch with plans to paint this weekend. Since the holidays are nearing we might just wait till spring. There has not been a lot of decorating around here this year with all the remodeling going on.
As always a joy to visit.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  11. I've heard stylists say before that taking a photo of a room can help you look at it more objectively and tell more easily what needs to be changed, I suppose the same applies to smaller ares also. I have a tendency to go overboard too, vignettes are not my strength in decorating! I love using brown transferware this time of year, it just seems so perfect for fall!

  12. Love your pitcher! I know what you mean about pitching everything...feel that way myself sometimes! But I would miss most of the things...

  13. Happy Halloween! I forgot to mention (yesterday) that your little trick or treaters will have a very inviting porch. . .the parents will enjoy looking and get some wonderful ideas.

How very special to have a pitcher that meant so much to your grandmother. Those things hold a special place in our hearts.

  14. I know what you mean, Vee. Sometimes it is so much easier to see things in photographs that our eyes are so used to seeing in real life that we just skim over them. It looks great and that is a wonderful old pitcher. Have a great Halloween Day- xo Diana

  15. Your pitcher is gorgeous, Vee! Nice memories attached to it too. I know what you mean about pitching everything! I'm in serious decluttering mode right now! :)

  16. Beautiful in both....featured in the second. I agree that it is very pleasant to focus on the two items.

  17. Beautiful pitcher, Vee. But I must say the first picture was just as lovely - I thought everything went together nicely :) But of course, it's not my home and it's beautiful either way.

  18. Ooh Vee, I love the brown transferware pitcher and it looks beautiful with the bittersweet. I guess sometimes it's best to look through the camera lens. I loved both photos, though! xo

  19. The bittersweet looks nice in the antique pitcher Vee. Don't you think our generation is a collector of pretties? Neither of our two daughters have near the things in their homes that I have. Makes dusting an adventure too!
Like you, I don't want to get rid of anything and just hope when I'm gone from this earth that someone in the family will have the sense to think if Mom/Grandma loved it, it must be worth keeping.
    Happy Halloween!

  20. Beautiful Vee! And, yes, I have felt the same way about taking everything out and starting over. It's not going to happen here either. Happy Halloween to ya!

  21. busy, not busy, love everything there, especially the pitcher and that sweet little handmade music bird. I bet that came from Quill Cottage. Have a lovely day Vee, a bit chilly here on the coast today. ~ Abby

  22. I have a closet like that. I"m afraid to go in there.
I love the Pitcher. I have very little from my grandparents. Treasure it!

  23. A very pretty picture!!
There were things that I kept boxed up during the move because they were things that I though I didn't want any more. I find myself going back to those boxes and bringing those things in this house too. : ) Now I'm so glad I didn't get rid of them!!!

  24. I was going to say, if you were going to "pitch" that gorgeous pitcher, well, wait a sec as I grab my catcher's mitt and get myself over there! I don't think your vignette looks too busy at all. but then I've seen my share of vignettes in Bloglandia that were waaaayyy over the top! xo

  25. Hi Vee....you've inspired me to go through some of my collected antique vases and do something different. I always pick bittersweet in the fall and love the way it looks no matter where you display it but it especially looks good in your pitcher on the mantle...another reason I love fall so much when you can go outside, take a walk in the woods and find all sorts of natural stuff to make just a simple display like yours. I also wanted to thank you for your lovely comment on my blog this morning. It really means a lot to me especially when I just need a little encouragement to get through the next few days. I switched that blog post to my sidebar as a new page...sometimes I feel kind of shy about writing stuff like that...I always feel like I'm a downer so thought it was better not to be so obvious about it all. Thanks so much for your support and for being such a good blogger friend. :)

  26. Oh mercy you hit it on the head with any weight loss plan I've tried lately...oye. Enjoyed your tweaking. I actually accomplished a project today. Can I have a hallelujah, amen!?

  27. I love to do the same thing. Sometimes I get tired of the way an area looks and before you know it, I'm rearranging and then things are so much better. Love all the bittersweet photos. So pretty!

  28. LOVE the pitcher! And the bittersweet! And actually I liked your arrangement BOTH ways...what is it with us gals that we are constantly arranging and re-arranging, haha.

  29. What a beautiful pitcher -- a real treasure. The bittersweet looks great in it too! I know what you mean about too much stuff!!! I think I'm going to have to break down and have a garage sale in the spring.

  30. Vee, love your decorating! I agree, I think that less is more. :-)

  31. that's all both here and there!
    i especially liked the weight
    loss analogy.

for me that's, here and here.

  32. If you ever get tired of that pitcher, you can toss it my way! Just saying...

  33. The pitcher is gorgeous and such a treasure. It looks pretty with anything adorning it. Enjoy your evening my friend!

  34. Vee, I'm the same. More is more. First, each piece is beautiful. Coco Chanel said something about fashion, and this is not word for word...something about getting dressed and before you go out the door, take one thing off. Maybe this applies to our decor. Maybe two vignettes could be made out of one?

    XO,
    Jane

  36. That pitcher is a real treasure. I have the hardest time deciding what is too much and what looks sterile!!! Wish you were here to help me accessorize the china cabinet.
Your header is so very pretty.
