Saturday Tidy Ups

I woke late to a frosty morning. Never even smelled the coffee brewing.

John soon had a new pot of coffee going and I had an easy breakfast of an Apple Butter Bar. Hmmmmm...

Just look at that gooey yumminess.  I found the recipe right *here.* If you don't have apple butter lying around, Anneliese offers another suggestion. Gee, Anneliese's don't look as gooey as mine. Anyway, mine were good. Perhaps the egg was too big.

You may remember that earlier in the week I received some happy mail from Abby. While cleaning the house yesterday afternoon, I was about to tuck them away and just couldn't. So I cleaned out the apothecary
jar — love that thing — and popped my treasures in and around the nest I keep there.

Now I can look at them again and again. Thanks to an idea I found at *Little Blue House* I cut the little piece of birch bark into a heart, wrote l o v e on it and popped it back in, too. That LBH idea has lots of potential.

Do you have a place where you store and display your treasures?

A very happy weekend to you...

  1. I do have a place that I store a few treasures. I haven't had it down from the top of the hutch in ages. I need to do that soon. I think that just might be a good blog post for me to do. Thanks!

  3. That was a genius idea! Your treasures not only look lovely, but they will continue to encourage you each time you see them there. Love the little birch bark heart too.

Enjoy your Saturday! Looks like it is off to a great start...a few extra zzzz's, fresh hot coffee made by your beloved, and a yummy apple butter bar! Yep, a great start!

  4. Great idea, you can enjoy them all the time, and keep them in one neat place! Love the birch bark heart, too. I am impressed with the apple bars made with your homemade apple butter! xo

  5. And a frosty good morning to you! There is a heavy frost here, and I still see it glistening outside at 10 am! The bars look delicious. And no, I don't have a little treasure display spot. Your apothecary is a great idea.

  7. I have made the apple butter bars; found the recipe in a cookbook I bought in historic Eufaula AL. It was one of John's favorites. I love your apothecary jar for displaying pretties. It's an idea I will copy to keep my curious cats out of my things!

  8. I love what you did with Abby's goodies - I will have to remember that idea :) It's always hard finding a spot to put small things and this is perfect! Have a beautiful weekend!

  9. I had some cloches, but I sold them in my booth last year. Now I wish I would have kept at least one. You cloche looks lovely the way you filled it with goodies.

  10. Love the smell of someone else making me coffee! I do have some places I store treasures, enough that sometimes I forget where I stored them. Your bars look delicous!

  11. Happy Frosty Saturday to you. I do love your windowsill photos, Vee. They are always charming.

I store treasures on my silver tray or under a cloche. But it's so hard to photograph a cloche. You've done well with the apothecary jar. Any tricks?

  12. I so enjoyed your school house memories. Schools do have large windows don't they? Tailor made for daydreaming I guess. I use my apothecary frequently in the same way you do. Once I even put old books in it. Remember the old glass display cases? Well these are miniature "in the rounds." Enjoy your pretty day--your leaves look wonderful (if they are still there!)

  13. Your tidy ups made for a beautifully colored post today. It is frosty in Ky. too. No snow just frost on the pumpkins.

  14. Loved catching up on your posts this morning with a cup of pumpkin spice coffee. It's a beautiful time of year here too, though zero chance of snow (**

  15. Hi Vee!

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do love the smell, especially on a cool crisp morning! I have two buckets of apples sitting in my garage, apple butter is on the menu!

I really need a place to put my treasures, an apothecary jar is perfect! I have lots of old jars, maybe one of them would work; just think of the cuteness!

    Have a wonderful week-end!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  17. I love your collection of things in the apothecary jar, Vee. What a sweet idea. I have things tucked here and there in cabinets I guess. Not really a special place for them. The birch bark heart is cute. I need to find me a birch tree now. Although it's illegal to take bark from a birch tree here. It will have to be shed bark I guess. I had a piece last year but don't know where it is now. It's chilly here today at 7C. We did some yard work this morning and cleaned out the shed then filled it again! Out of sight until next spring. Enjoy the day.

  20. That is a neat idea with the jar. I have a old table in the front hallway and the old dresser in the dining room I use. I still have not had the heart to use the teacup yet from the teacup exchange, lol. Thanks for making me smile Vee. Blessings

  21. Your pictures are so homey and pretty. A great place to put your treasures.
I have a basket out that I keep all the thank you notes I get and read them often.
I don't have a special place to keep treasures out. Perhaps I should.

  23. I do tend to leave cards displayed for a long time and my curio cabinet holds the treasures. The apple butter bar looks delish.

  24. I'm with Ellen...I love the smell of someone else making coffee in the morning. :) We awoke to a frosty Saturday morning in Nashville as well...and we got the coffee brewing in quick order. It warmed up quite nicely...and we had a nice city tour.

Love your jar for storing treasures! I have an antique-looking cart...that came with a floral arrangement many years ago...where I store/display cards, etc....but it isn't great for treasures. You found the perfect place.

  25. Love waking up to the smell of coffee, and it is so much better if someone else has made it! ~smile~ Thanks for the idea of displaying in the Apothecary jar! Our first frost was Thursday night, and the first freeze came last night, everything but the pansies look pitiful ! Your home always looks so cozy!
    Enjoy your Sunday!

  29. I like the way you displayed your sweet treasures from Abby. Her work is too pretty to hide away, for sure.
I would love to wake up to all that yummy looking gooiness for breakfast, but I'm too lazy to do any baking.
Thank you, Vee, for putting my give-away button on your sidebar.
    Have a good Sunday.

  31. Crisp air and the smell of coffee on a Sunday morning. One of those little blessings I enjoy in the fall. The apple butter bars look so yummy. I love your idea for keeping treasured notes in the apothecary jar with a few seasonal items. That seems like a wonderful way to store those little treasures.

    1. Hi Candy~

I visited; I saw; I shuddered. Guess the lesson there is 'If you see a hairy spider..."

Also tried to comment; however, your settings must be restricted to Google Plus. I don't want to go that route. That much interconnectedness is what really creeps me out.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  33. That does look like wonderful "Happy Mail," Vee! It looks so pretty in your apothecary jar. It is the perfect showcase for it. I also love your birch bark idea. I'm wondering if birch trees are the same as the quaking aspens we have here in Colorado? Our aspens look very much the same, but don't seem to shed their bark like birch trees do. Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday!

  34. I keep my little mementos from friends in a basket in my office where I can see them. I love the idea of using the apothecary jar though! Great idea!

  35. Vee,
I love this post. I could just imagine you waking up in the beautiful home of yours, coming out to a pot of coffee. I especially liked the apothecary jar. The card in there caught my attention - never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.
I am trying to convince myself today not to give up, it is not hopeless, there is light ahead. The card was great.
    cheers

Have been looking for an email, you no-reply commenter, you! Yes, I am certain we've all felt like tossing in the towel from time to time. Keep plugging along, though, for just as the quote says, you never know when the tide will turn.

Keep looking up and thank you for stopping by! First time in a long time!

  36. I love the way you displayed your treasures! The birch bark heart is such a sweet idea! I have two big birches and lots of birch bark so I'll have to try this idea.

I wish I could have some Apple Butter Bar for breakfast! It looks sooooo good! Too much sugar and carbs for me so early in the day I'm afraid :)
