Still There is Peace

It is not lost, the peace we long have sought,
Earth holds it safe in spite of blustering man,
In spite of wars and all the boundaries bought
With terror, blood, and tears since time began.
No vaunted missile yet has range to mar
The vibrant color harps of Northern Lights,
The afterglow of setting sun, or bar
Orion's tranquil march across the nights.
Still there are hillsides where the maple burns
And hemlock trails the deer and foxes know,
Still there are purple grapes as fall returns
And boughs of golden apples hanging low.
Twilight and crescent moon, these shall not cease
Though rulers rise and fall—still there is peace.

Leslie Savage Clark

The swish of the leaves was so pleasant that day. I had to take this little movie and share it with you. This poem almost perfectly expresses my thoughts these days. I think often of a blustering man and still I know that there can be peace because God holds it safe.

Over and out for today...at least the lasagnas are made! Wish I could say the same for birthday cake.

Enjoy this day...

  3. I love hearing the wind blowing through the trees, it's a peaceful sound to me, much like hearing the waves breaking on a shoreline.

  4. Yes. Such goodness today here on your blog. Good in the gentle, encouraging words. Good in the reassuring sounds of the rustling autumn breeze and the constancy of the seasons. Good to think of the sweet family times you will have as you celebrate your dear girl.

    Yes..."God holds it safe."

  5. This is beautiful! The sound of wind in the trees is honestly one of my favorite sounds....reminds me so much of the time spent in the mountains as a little girls, so peaceful! yes, we carry that peace within us with HIM, no matter what storms surround us Nice start to my day, thanks for posting it!

  6. It definitely looks like autumn has arrived. Spring winds are so different than autumn winds. Our Heavenly Father created such a mysterious and beautiful world. The poem definitely tells what we're feeling this time of year.

  7. A beautiful poem to describe heartfelt feelings. I enjoyed the video of the wind in the trees, it's as calming as an ocean surf. My favourite observation is to see the leaves of the tall trees in the yards behind dancing in the breeze, and yet there is not a flutter from the leaves of the trees in our yard.
    Enjoy your day Vee.

  10. This poem reminds me of the promise God made to Noah in Genesis 8:22 - "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

  14. Well, that poem pretty well sums it up doesn't it? If you look for something positive you will find it.
    Very nice Vee!

  15. I love to listen to the trees. This time of year, they really sing!

  16. I think there just might be a walk in the crisp autumn day for me today! Thanks for the reminder.!

  17. We had our first walk through crunchy leaves this last Sunday. I can't do that without thinking of my mom. My mom and dad would be out for a drive and she would make him stop if she spotted a particularly crunchy leaf spot and he would... and she would get out and walk for awhile. I love the wind this time of year.

  22. Love the video of your Fall Vee! Thanks for sharing it. I love the quote and had to go look up Phil:4:7 that Carol mentioned. Both gave me faith that we can find peace.

  23. Love the video. As you know I live now in WA the evergreen state. So we don't get the color like I used to see in MN. I do have lots of vine maples and Japanese Maples that I planted. But I do miss the crunch of walking through giant maple leaves on my way home from school. I am playing catch up with your blog and loved the country fair. So much fun!!!

  32. Well, well a video producer too dear Vee!
I'm amazed by the quiet except for the gentle rustle of the tress and leaves - as God meant it to be.
Though rulers rise and fall—still there is peace.
I know you are holding on to that thought.
Wishing you and John a very happy weekend and enjoy the celebration.
    Hugs

  34. Sorry to have been AWOL lately....I had the opportunity to go to San Diego with hubby and then we had a wedding to attend in upstate NY. Somewhere along the way I came down with a bad cold and have no energy since I've been home. Hope to catch up this weekend!

  35. Lovely...the poem and the wind in the trees. I loved watching the video...with a much better perspective of what I am actually seeing. It still seems a little surreal that I have been to your place!

Hope it all came together...including the cake for dessert!

  36. Cake done yet?
The line about the color harp of the Northern Lights blew me away. What an excellent poem!
Call me crazy, the worse it gets out there the closer I feel to God and His Son's return.

  37. I'm reading this post after sending you the email. The world does seem like a crazy place, but God is over all. How beautiful to focus on the loveliness in life rather than the craziness. Beautiful poem.

  38. To be the kind of person who stops to notice and record the rustle of the wind is an incredible gift. I loved this. I clicked and sat and listened. You see, I live in a pine forest. Georgia pines don't rustle. I miss the sound of the rustling leaves. That's was beautiful to me.
