Odds and Ends #?

Other posts have been named Odds and Ends. I actually tried to discover how many. I learned two things: 1. the search feature in my sidebar no longer works, and 2. the search feature at the top left of the page seems to be hiccuping. Perhaps this blog has too many archives and is belching along like the gassy, old cow it's become. I will have to ponder that and what I might do about it.

For example, commenting has become a nightmare with all Blogger
blogs — not with Typepad nor Wordpress, just Blogger.
Seeing this at the end of my attempts to post a comment does not make me wish to kill pages; it does make me wish to kick blogger in the ask. I have tried using different browsers: IE, Mozilla, Google Chrome. It doesn't seem to matter. Every forum on the topic has been visited and read backwards and forwards. I try this; I try that. Nothing. Anyone else having this specific problem?

On this cheery note, I conclude my rant for today. I'm concerned about ever so many things just now. The morning news for one. Okay, I must stay focused. Must stay focused. Must stay focused.

Thank goodness, I have dishes to do!

Have a great weekend...

  1. I have heard several people say they are switching over to Wordpress. I think as Blogger continues to grow/change/evolve (whatever), it will have hiccups. I am not ready to move just yet. But, yep, fronting your pain..the only browser I use is Internet Explorer 9. I do not like Google Chrome. Have a blessed day..smiles

  2. I haven't had any issues commenting, yet, but I did have trouble with the search feature for a while. The other day it worked again, so I don't know what's up!

We don't have tv so I am not sure what's in the morning news that is bothering you, but I know there is so much out there bothering me! I am thankful to know He who holds the future!

Have a good day, my friend!

  3. Sometimes blogger errors are directly related to "cookie" settings. You should allow 3rd party cookies in your browsers in order to get all features of blogger to work properly. However, your problem is across 3 browser platforms so I might suspect an OS or security software issue. The big question is always "What has been changed on your computer lately". Has Windows updated recently? Has your anti-virus software updated recently? Think back to when you first saw the problem and then try to tie it to other events on your computer. You may want to use the "restore" feature of your operating system (OS) and restore back to a date prior to when the problem began. This will remove any updates or downloads from today on back to the restore date. If the problem stops then you know it was caused by something added or change during that time. If the problem persists then the issue is either blogger's or one of those mysteries of the universe. You can always restore forward in time to get back to today's setup. Good luck.

  4. I have Google Chrome and dont have any problems posting comments, so wont be moving to Wordpress or any of the other blogging sites just yet. I have come from yahoo360, multiply, and now Blogger, so if things do get bad, I will check it out then. Til now, all is well on my end.

  5. Good grief, that's annoying! I haven't been having any similar problems here. Have you tried logging out and then logging back in? My only browser of choice is Safari. I have a iMac, but there is a free Safari download for PCs. I have a domain claimed over on Wordpress which I keep as a safety net, in case the Google folks totally mess up Blogger & force us into Google + (which is their version of Facebook).

As far as the news is concerned, its been bothering me for about 5 years now, and I'm sure it will continue to bother me for at least another 3 years. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does.

  6. I haven't seen that msg when I try to comment. I have been watching the ads on TV asking if we are being scroogled by google. I do believe that we are. I have 3 blogs on Wordpress that I need to pay more attention too. I have never heard of Typepad but I am going to check it out.

  7. There is news? Hmmm ...wonder if I want to know.
I do want to know if you found your potatoes yet?

    2. Oh, and as regards the news. You probably don't want to know, but you need to know.

  8. I have not seen the error message you refer to but I do have other issues that drive me nuts!
Like Becky, wondering about your potatoes??

  9. I have not had a problem commenting, but I noticed my search bar on the side of my blog does not work anymore either.

    ReplyDelete
  10. and I just tried your search bar at the side - even though your note says to use the one at the top - and it worked. I typed in "note card" and several post links showed up.

  11. I haven't had any problems commenting. I'm sorry that Blogger is misbehaving for you. Hope it all somehow works itself out. xo

  12. Good morning! Can't tell you how crazy computer glitches can make me. I just want to pop on and scurry around doing what I want and get back off. Something stopping me is MOST annoying...sigh. However, I have not had your issue. Leaving comments is working just fine...I am on internet explorer. My problems recently are coming from a brand new computer that I am pretty much clueless as to how to work, and trying to figure things out. This curser is constantly doing things I don't want it to do and I have no clue how to turn it off....Anyway....ENJOY your week-end Vee!

  13. I am so sorry your search is not working. I just entered "cooking" and got many hits. But I know how frustrating "the innate perversity of inanimate objects" can be!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I saw that error message often last week. It was very frustrating, because the comments were actually posting - eventually. I figured that our after leaving three comments on some posts. I don't know what it is with Blogger - just likes to keep us frustrated! :)

  15. It seems to me every time I have a problem with blogging or whatever, I go running to my son but usually if I just wait it out it will go away on its own. I have not had the problem you describe. I bet you get it worked out as I know you are a determined and skillful woman.

  16. so far, no problems commenting. i had a friend who switched to wordpress and had bigger problems there. i'll sit tight at Twisty's place and see what happens.

  17. I used to get that all the time on my laptop, usually meant it needed to be checked for a little virus, cookies cleared, etc. I too am upset by the news, I have not turned the tv on yet, and probably won't for a while. We are heading back to the deep freeze starting Monday night, so not looking forward to that. xo

  18. I have never seen that notice. Wow, a kill page?
Hope you find the potatoes. Offer a reward to the kids. Extra " eyes" may help! :)
Stay warm, Vortex visiting again, or as we call it, winter. :)

  19. I've never seen that but then again, I only comment on a few blogs.

  20. Sorry you are having computer/blogger issues, Vee. I use Google Chrome and have only seen that message once or twice.
I have't had the TV on this morning so don't know what the news is.

  21. Oh Vee, thank goodness you posted this. Misery loves company, and I have been having the same problem! I thought it was my computer so I guess though frustrated yet again with blogger, I am glad that it's a problem on their end.

  22. Hope you don't find your potatoes the 'hard' way. I often discover mine have gone 'over the hill' that way. Last year I was having trouble accessing some blogs that have a lot of pictures and tended to download slowly and finally not at all. I accidentally discovered I could access these just fine in Google Chrome. This has nothing to do with your problem I'm sure. This just worked for me. I'm not ready to change. Some days it seems that something isn't working, but if I wait it seems to correct itself. I hope you discover what works for you or how to fix it. Nothing gets on my nerves quite like having my computer acting up. Like 'blue page' error warnings. Is that computer armageddon? What's that! I've gotten those before. Hey, sometimes it just helps to restart and let it set back up properly. If all else fails get one of your grandchildren to show you how to fix it; they seem to know these things.

  23. I was thinking about your potatoes yesterday! I read the comments above and see you still haven't found them! Oh, DEAR!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hope some of these comments help....I don't want to lose out on a comment from you. I see the potatoes are still missing! OH MY! Sweet hugs!

    ReplyDelete
  25. A kill page, that is different. I sent you an email, explaining how to fix a few issues.
I hope all is well and you can comment again without issues and get your search bar working. Sometimes, we have to try different things on our own blogs, to make sure things are working properly.

  26. I've never seen that notice come up yet! Strange one indeed. Once in a while I have a problem commenting but it often shows up or sometimes it's really slow but goes through. Wish I could help. I don't have a search thing on my blog so don't know what would be ailing that. So many things to confuse my old brain and make me worry. :( Frustrating to say the least!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't seen this one yet. I've typed out a comment only to have a popup say an error has occurred, but I refresh the page and sometimes it will appear. Nothing more frustrating than having a nice comment typed and poof!

Care to share what I've missed in the news this morning??

  28. This is happening on certain blogs for me, too. It is the ones where the box comes up to comment.

    1. It's true! I have not been able to comment on any blog using a pop-up comment box. Thanks for mentioning it.

  29. So far the only issues I have are with discus, or something like that. The word/number verifications get under my skin. I have not seen the news in the last couple days. My biggest problem with the news other than my obvious angst against certain things is that you don't get much news. I want to hear more about what's happening around the world and such. I hope you have a lovely rest of your day and Sunday!

  30. I've had an error message show up a couple of times and my comment posted anyway. More problems with my iPad since the last OS update. For one thing, I don't stay logged in on anything anymore and that's frustrating.

  31. Frustrating days for you. Lost potatoes, the political situation and your blog comments. No fun at all. I have not (yet) had any difficulty commenting but one UK blogger I know has had the same experience as you. Hope it resolves itself sooner rather than later.

  32. Oh no - this gets so frustrating indeed! So far so good with mine (blogspot). I have been getting squirmy though about backing up my computer onto an external hard drive. I finally went out and bought one this weekend and have been backing up my pictures etc. It's all so technical though and I'm not even sure I'm doing that right!?? It just scares me that I could lose them if my laptop crashes - eek!!!!

  33. I am having the exact same problem and cant figure it out. I just downloaded Fire Fox because I have had it up to my eyeballs with Internet Explorer and will never, ever, ever go there again.
I use Google Chrome for the blog but that doesn't seem to help either. My next guess is that having more than one browser installed may be a problem. I'll let you know what I find out.
BTW... on a lighter note. I almost p**'d in my pants laughing at your lost potato adventure! Sorry I couldn't help myself.

  34. I haven't had any problems. I use Firefox.
Have you found those potatoes yet?

  35. Geez, I feel left out. No troubles here ... so far. I use Firefox. ~:)

  36. The search box on my blog mysteriously quit working weeks ago. I tried and tried to coax it to work. I finally gave up. Then last week I tried it, and it was back...just as mysteriously. I have no explanation.

And there is something that seems so final about "killing" pages. I just hate it! :(

  37. Oh dear Vee... rats about all the issues on blogger.

I haven't had issues with leaving comments, but I have noticed the search tool is about useless. I should try again, as Cheryl above says hers now works.

I hate to think of having to move elsewhere.

Yes, focus, I've been doing a lot of that myself... focus on Him, the author and finisher of it all, including our faith in Him. (This just comes to me.... ask Him what you can pray into with faith, not fear and see something change).

    Hugs...
    Brenda

  38. I am almost afraid to say that I haven't had a problem with commenting, now just watch me have a problem! I did see one other person who complained that she couldn't comment. I hope they get it fixed soon!

  42. I always read posts. It's just the commenting and posting on my own blog that is lacking, so I haven't noticed a problem. ;/

  43. Hello and Happy New Year! I'm sorry to hear about your blogging problems, I hope they are resolved soon! You've reminded me that I have a sink full of dishes to do!!! Happy Monday!

  44. I made the mistake of making my blog link to google+ and then only others who have done the same could comment on my blog and I could no longer moderate the comments. I think I've finally got that mess changed back. Good luck Vee!

  45. Oh my---I switched to Google Chrome when I began having problems with Internet Explorer. Now will I have to switch to another browser--ugh--hope not! My blog's search box still works--for now--but I have noticed it has stopped working on some other blogs. Blogging can be so confusing and challenging at times, but it seems someone always manages to find a solution sooner or later that helps us all. I know a lot of bloggers switched to Wordpress but that also has problems from time to time. No win-win.

I love your post above about Cain and Abel --wonderful analogy to accepting what God wants form us, Vee. The bible story that has always puzzled me--to this day--is the Prodigal Son parable. I understand the great rejoicing, but I always feel sorry for the good son who faithfully plugged away so many years and did not seem to get the same rewards. I know his rewards will come later but I still feel sad for him!

  49. Ahhhhhh, and doing dishes is the greatest stress reliever in the world...warm water, pretty dishes, shiny glassware, cheery bubbles, a nice window view (hopefully), and a cat on the stool beside me....what's not to like???
My other stress buster is playing the piano....if I am really upset, I just play Tchaikovsky, and beat and bang like I really know what I am doing :^)
    Blessings to you,
