Of Graphics and Backgrounds and Such

The email read something like this: Thank goodness you got rid of that old, brown background with the musical notes. It was depressing!

Got rid of? Depressing? I had not gotten rid of anything and I had no idea that anyone found whatever I had not gotten rid of "depressing." I really loved it. Really loved it.

So I left my iPad and fired up the PC and, sure enough, the background was gone and the little icon to Shabby Blogs was broken. I don't know what happened to Shabby Blogs; I do know that the owner had put the site up for sale. I hope that it will be back.

In the meantime, my friend thoughtfully included two links to background sites: *The Digital Bakery* (the background I am using comes from there)and *Vintage Made for You.*

Yesterday, she sent me this funny, which I have already shared with some of you. I know that you might wish to stick in your own state or province.

Obviously, Charlie is visiting a "green" state. Ha!

Just to prove that we are in need of a little humor here...

We never know when "the luge" will be too slippery to use. It's a day by day thing lately. Today it will be too slippery, but Saturday afternoon, after three inches of snow fell, it was great. The boys talked their dad into bringing them over so they could have more time on the hill. How they have enjoyed that thing! And, good news for them, looks as if a rather large storm is on its way. Sigh.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not say a thank you to my dear friend Karen Harvey Cox at A Scrapbook of Inspiration for this darling little graphic made for me. It is so adorable; I love it!

As you can see, I'm using it for my "home" button. By the way, do you have a "home" page or button or something that allows your readers to return to your home page without having to scroll all the way to the bottom?

My friend is not the only one who can stick her oar in.

A great week to you!

P.S. For all you birthday girls out there... This was in my sister's email one day recently

  1. I usually read your blog in the morning on my iPad and other than a bit of lace showing on the sides at the bottom, I don't see any background. I'll check on my laptop later, but I liked the music notes too.
Love the birdie graphic from Karen and the wishful shadow is cute.

    1. Yes, that is how it appears on my iPad as well. Just a bit of background at the bottom.

  3. I liked your music sheet background Vee although it only went part way down the page for some reason. The lace background is very pretty and soft too. The "When does spring start?" thing is going around on Facebook too but I didn't know you could change where you live on it. Cute idea. I'm glad the boys are getting more luge time. This upcoming storm will be a doozie here and in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. It's going to be a weather bomb for Nfld. with terrible winds. Do you think it will be the last one this season? I sure hope so!! I love your home button. It is so cute! Have a great Monday. It's sunny but very very cold. A nice "January" day. :)

  6. Good morning! Well I personally LOVED your background, though I really like this too. And your little home button is adorable. The little funnies you had sure made me smile too. Especially that last one. It's certainly what I see, haha, Enjoy your day Vee!

  7. I'm always learning something new here! It's time I do something different with my background too....and I didn't even know there is a "home button" - oye!
I think it's so great that your boys are loving your backyard luge. You have documented this unusual Winter well Vee!

  8. I liked the sheet music background, but then what do I know. I liked your other header too. ;-) (just had to work that in LOL) But your new background looks so wonderfully springy and light. Love the last cartoon. And I have no idea about a 'home' button. I thought people just click on the URL bar again. Shows you how behind I am. And I LOVE that little signpost. No wonder you have a home button. If I had one that cute, I'd use it too! :-)

  9. I loved your musical note background and I love this lacy one too. Karen's graphic is great! I have a home button under my header, along with other tabs.

We are suppose to have snow tomorrow. The tale end of the Alberta Clipper is reaching all the way down here in NC.

  10. I noticed your darling little "home" sign post last week...I love it! I also love the birthday shadow photo. That is one of those "a picture is worth a thousand words" things. So touching.

    Happy sledding...in Maine...in the "spring"...

I was just saying I love all the little specialties you do with your blog , mine is just a basic blogger site so no home button but I hope to learn some of the beautiful additions as I go along.

  12. Hi Vee,
Nice job of backgrounds and graphics... like Willow ahead of me.. my nearly complete comment jumped and poof was gone. I'll try again.
I am smiling at the graphic of the walking lady at the bottom of your post. That was me on the beach. I saw myself "OK" and then came home and saw the reality in the photos. I guess it is all in the mind.. our attitude and all.
Lots of nice graphics here.. always.

  13. Hi Vee! Your music background was among my favorites and I'm sorry it was not working anymore :( I will say the lace background is very feminine and lovely!

Love the photo at the end - too precious. Happy Monday to you!

  14. I loved your background. I think your friend was joking. I've got to check out those links she sent.

What a great graphic! Wish I had her talent!

  15. I, too, liked your music background, but this one is nice too. what a cute home button you have now! and I love the old woman "dancing!" Happy a lovely day Vee!

  16. You put such effort into your blog's appearance. The lace is pretty (and it goes down each side of your text block on my screen, all the way to the bottom), but I also liked the musical notes. How sweet of Karen to create a Home button for you.
Speaking of blog appearances, I think I must do something with my photo - it was taken in the excitement of snow in December and that's long passed into memory. People will think I live in Maine! Your grands are getting so much enjoyment from the luge track - love it! Have a wonderful day, Vee.

  17. Vee, I always thought your music background was nice...the lace is also very pretty. I change up my background and header almost as often as I change my und.......well....not quite THAT often! As far as that home button goes, that is just adorable and I did notice it a few days ago. I wonder how hard it is to make one without risking messing up your blog? I may need to check it out!

    1. I have always looked for a little vintage image of a cute "home." Then I just add it to my sidebar using the image gadget and link back to my blog's url. After that I label it "home." One can also just use a tab for "home." There's more than one way to do it, but it shouldn't mess up the blog. Easy for me to say, right?

  18. The old woman dancing? Love that. I'm always shocked when I catch a glimpse in a mirror, for inside I still feel like the dancing image.

  20. We always said, Texas is like a whole other country. I guess you could say that about Maine, too. Hope that sun peeks out and warms things up soon. And blogs? Something is always changing! lol I'm always trying to keep up! Sweet hugs!

  21. What an adorable button and what a kind friend to create if for you! She's so clever, I would not have a clue on how to do that! Love that email from your sister, just awesome~

  23. I LOVE that last picture. The older woman with the shadow of a dancing girl. I need that on my wall.
Too funny on being depressing...I didn't think so. As for a button...I had one when I first started then I deleted it. I still don't think I know anything about all this blogging thing. LOL
Enjoy your beautiful snow. We are starting to warm up here some, but still using our heaters.
    Have a great week.

  24. So much good information here today. I'm trying to take it all in between chasing after my (newly crawling) grandson. Oh how I can relate to that photo your sister sent you. Ha!
I did notice your little birdie graphic last week and meant to mention how cute it is. I do not have a home button, but always find them convenient on other blogs. I would love to add one and maybe some tabls across the top of my blog. Have no idea how to do it. Would you consider sharing this info in a future post?
I marvel at how often you freshen up the appearance of your blog. It is a delight to see what you will come up with next. I have never found any of them to be depressing. Thanks for sharing the links. I plan to check them out. I need to do some freshening up on this end.

  25. That little graphic is so darn cute! Love it. Glad the boys got in some luge time. Another storm headed your way...I don't know what to say.
    Love your sister's email!

  26. As I was finishing reading this post, I heard myself sighing and laughing, in a gentle way. You always bring sunshine to my day, no matter what the circumstance. I really liked your former background and was so envious of it. I say the weather report of your predicted snowstorm, and was hoping it would go somewhat more easterly for you. Remember, when I am scorching in heat and humidity this summer you will be having absolutely perfect weather. ~smile~ Today is cool here and we are going to be very cold tomorrow, so I guess spring has decided to hold off a little longer.
Your home button is precious, Karen did a beautiful job, thank you for the heads up on having one, now I must see what I can find.
Do children ever get tired of snow? I think not, and I love the fact that they get to enjoy it especially at grandma and grandpa's home, I also will bet that grandma has some special treats for them.~smile~
    Enjoy your day,
    Hugs, Sue

  29. I can see the shabbyblog.com sticker on the upper left of your blog today, Vee, so I guess it was a glitch? I like your lace background. Each and every change you make is nice. I cleaned up my sidebar a little last night. I love Karen's new graphic for you! Very pretty!

Your grandsons are enjoying the snow as they should! My hubby is flying to Boston this week for work,so I hope there will not be a blizzard there.

  30. Well, shoot...sorry you lost your musical notes background. I like the one you are using now, too. Springy looking, even if the sight out your window is a loooong way from spring looking.
Yep, I heard ya'll might be in for another round of the white stuff. Hang in there...spring is sure to come.

  31. I like your home button graphic - so cute! I like your lace background and I also liked your musical notes. We had a little snow today but it melted off already. Have a good week, Vee!

  32. I had a problem with my background too. There are several different ones to use. I did, however like your music notes...It's fun to play around with different ones.

Enjoyed your post, and the cute picture from your sister.

  33. The button is great. Alas, I don't have one. I'm in the mood for a blog makeover, but haven't quite gotten to it. It's on my infinitely long list to do.

  34. Bless you guys with all that snow! I love all your headers! And that graphic is adorable! xo

  35. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out. I would like a "home button" with a motorcycle on it. Bet they don't have that! *lol* And I am definately the Old Geezer with the youthful shadow. I used to dance too. If I stretched out like that now, someone would have to dial 9-1-1.
Hope y'alls Spring happens soon. I'm sure all the snow is getting old. ~:)

  36. Oh my, I must be the only person that doesn't even notice backgrounds! I do like this lace one now that you've brought it to my attention.
You little sign graphic sure is cute-that I noticed right away. So I guess I'm not completely hopeless...
It looks like the Grands are still enjoying the snow.

  41. Love the pictures of the lugers. I found myself reminiscing of my happy childhood memories of things we did at my Grammie's. Those children will never forget these happy times.
Hunker down for one more storm.. I think it's missing us down here in York County along the coast. Just sayin'.

  43. Hi Vee!

I had someone tell me once that they didn't like my background, it thought it was nervy... ;0)

I am just so amazed at how much snow the East Coast got this year - still sledding, my goodness! We worked in the yard in our shirtsleeves today, crazy weather!

  44. I LOVED those musical notes!! Dare I say that was a rather rude comment? I think it was! I thought this was YOUR blog!!! Love your 'button!' I'll have to ask Amber if I have one. You would be surprised at how little I knwo about design on a blog. However, I DO know I always admire yours! Love the lace and your lovely header! All things lemon.......delicious and pretty!

  45. There must be a lot of people wondering where their background went. Shabby Blogs was a very popular place and a lot of people used it. The lace is pretty, and I have never found your blog depressing:>) Karen is such a wonderful artist, I love the buttin she made for you!
