Soap and Suds

~thank you, Diane!~

Just when I need a blogging topic, a knock comes at the door. Either that or I'm very good with the yakety-yak.

Diane is one of my favorite names. Do I sound like a certain talk-show host? Well, it's true — Diane is one of my favorite names because I have so many friends who share that name. This Diane blogs privately and oh, I can't wait until her husband retires so she may blog in the open. ☺ Then you'll get a proper introduction.

One of her favorite Etsy stores is Mudlucious and Puddlewonderful. (I am really going to try to remember that name; once the melting in my yard begins, it'll be so delightfully euphemistic.) Anyway, I recently won a giveaway and was allowed to choose two soaps. Choosing soaps is so much fun! It's like selecting candy bars without the calories.

You may find that connection odd, but once my cousin and I ate a sliver of Ivory soap while we were having a bath. My mother was called to the phone and left two otherwise intelligent looking four-year-olds in the tub while she took the call. When she returned, she wondered where the soap had gone. °Hiccup.° Oh my. We were both some kind of sick. Just in case you've ever wondered, I have also eaten a plate of sand. Don't ask!

Now where was I? Oh. The name Diane. (That is where I was, right?) One of my other Dianes Diana commented yesterday that she can not always tell that she is visiting my blog. Hence yet another blog header and the large name below the header. It's a look and not one I'm sure that will last, but if anyone mistakes me for Pioneer Woman, it won't be my fault. Hahahahahaha...

Okay. Enough shenanigans. Have a fun day!

  2. Love the soap story! :D (I once ate a buttercup on the school playground. What is it about kids and eating things?)

What a delightful giveaway! Scented soaps are a simple luxury, don't you think?

  7. I was thinking of how all our blogs have continued to grow and change and become more who we really are over the years. I can't even remember what first drew me to reading your blog but I suspect it is that you are real and lovely and a delight to visit. Change your header or your wallpaper... you are still always our delightful Vee.

  8. Your new header with the pansy teacup and saucer, chicks, eggs and lamb speak spring and Easter to me. "The Old Rugged Cross" is one of my very favorite hymns. You are so very creative. So glad that the soaps arrived. I really enjoy using those soaps. I don't know if it's the essential oils or the way they lather that I like most ~ maybe both!

    1. Thanks, Diane! Oh thank you for mentioning the lather and essential oils. I'm trying to save one of the bars...lemon...for my sister, but I may not. Just sayin'. I requested the oatmeal~rosemary to use as my kitchen sink bar of soap.

  9. I love your new header photo and the name in pretty purple under it! Now, I have not ever eaten soap but I have had my tongue 'washed' with it a few times by my mother. I must have said a bad word or two as a child. Ha. I guess she didn't hear all the other bad words I've spoken. (but I know SOMEONE who has) I knew a little girl, I think her name was Diane too, and she loved to eat sand. I can't imagine doing that! Ewwww. So gritty. I think your story of that would be interesting. I love homemade soaps. They are the best and smell wonderful. Sunny and blowsy here today.

  13. Hi Vee,

Such pretty soaps! Those look like such fun to use, and I think the note card is so pretty. Speaking of the name "Diane," that's my mother-in-law's name. :)

I love your header, Vee; the pansy teacup and saucer are just lovely, and the chicks and eggs are charming. I'm ready to change my header -- just haven't gotten around to it yet. I hope you have a great day!

    Hugs,

  15. Very pretty header Vee, and I would love getting some fancy soap! I am currently working my way through my daughter's orange scented bar that she purchased and abandoned. I love the scent of oranges so it's all good. That lemon moisturizing bar looks nice:>)

  16. HAHAHAHAHA! Was that ME? Well, as soon as I start reading I always know it is you! lol Your header is beautiful and I can't wait till your friend, Diane, comes out of "hiding" and we get to know her. If you love her I am pretty sure we will, too. xo Diana

  17. So much fun happening around here. Your like a box of chocolates...I never know what I'm going to get when I visit here except for I know I'll end up enjoying it...

  18. Smiling over here...about the eating of soap and sand. You really would do well on those reality shows where one must eat 'whatever' or be gone! Enjoy your 'mudlucious' soaps!

Diane was right up there with popular names in the 1950's...like Judy and Carol and Janet. That's why I have good friends with all those names. :) I'm thinking your name was likely on that list as well...the regal version.

  19. I have a couple wonderful Diane's that visit my blog. What a wonderful name indeed. You soaps look wonderful. I had to laugh at the Oatmeal /Rosemary...since I love Rosemary Salt...maybe I could just throw a bar of soap in my soup...tee hee.

What a lovely gift..I do love soaps and just bought a goat milk that doesn't smell like the farm...HaHa.

  21. We'll have to start calling you Ralphy with the soap eating. I've grazed on wild flowers. They're quite edible, [not] you know. Guess I'm part cow.

In Roman mythology Diana was the goddess of the hunt. Maybe it's the country girl in you popping out. If I could have had children, I would have named the one of the girls "Sarah Elizabeth". Doesn't that just say "Old England"? Love it. ~:)

  22. Can't think of any odd thing I've eaten, but our eldest daughter swallowed a whole lot of sand on her first visit to the beach at 8 months. No more to be said about that.
Lovely soaps. I think of soaps like this as affordable luxuries. Enjoy!

  23. Sweet gift, Vee. I'm looking forward to meeting the mysterious Diane.

  24. Hi Vee, What a great giveaway gift. Love the header photo. A cuppa tea would be great this afternoon.

  25. What pretty soap! I'm pretty sure the soap probably tasted worse than my mud pie did. Didn't every kid make and eat (or attempt to eat) a mud pie?

  26. Never a dull moment for you, all the way back to four! I don't recall a Diane while going to school and know so few today (other than bloggers) but - I meet a Judy every corner I turn. Of course my age group was named for Judy Garland. :-)

  27. I like your new header Vee. A friend of mine and I once got caught eating doggie treats when we were little!

  28. What a nice gift. Just this week, I bought myself a big scented bar soap. I have been using liquid body wash for YEARS, and for some reason, was craving a big hefty soap. Let us know what you think of your new ones.

  29. I laughed when I read you ate sand because I did that when I was a 4 years.
My mom cured me by setting a bowl of sand in front of me and made me eat some of it for supper. I guess today that would be child abuse!

  30. I must admit to cringing when I read about you tasting Ivory soap. I well remember the taste of that soap and have never liked it since. Not quite sure why I tasted it, although I know I did have my mouth washed out with soap once as a child. Perhaps it was with Ivory.
On a more pleasant note your giveaway is delightful. Just the names of those soaps sounds enticing.
I am sure you will enjoy using them.
I suspect you are having too much fun playing with your headers. This one is charming and so Springy.

  31. Congrats on winning such yummy sounding soaps, Vee! I love to smell all kinds of soaps when I am in a soap shop yet I always seem to buy the lavender scent in the end :)

Love your Easter inspired banner! The tablecloth goes with your lace template edges.

  32. You are so fun! I love the look of those soaps. My friends make soap and it is divine! Don't you love having wonderful friends?

I think the weirdest thing I've eaten was a bite of a frog leg (in a restaurant!). Oh wait I did eat quite a few baby aspirin when I was very little. Hmmm, might explain a lot!

  33. Hi Vee!

Oh, how I love good soap!! You are one lucky lady to win such a great prize!

I have never eaten soap, but I have eaten sand, who knew that is a great cure for ulcers. My chiropractor, who is also a naturalist of sorts, gave me sand for my ulcers, and had me take 1 Tlbs, each morning. Of course it was sterilized, but that didn't make it go down any easier! It worked!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  34. A plate of sand.........haha. I am dying to, but I won't ask! lol. Congrats on the win. I agree that soap is like candy in a way. I once had soap shaped like bonbons, and smelled delicious. xo

  35. Love homemade soaps - what a sweet thing to win! I really enjoyed this delightful post Vee - you are so funny! Stay safe in the storm!

  36. Lovely header. I think your teacup is a joy and admire the font and color of "A Haven for Vee". But I won't be following you (your early self on both counts, I trust) into nibbling on Ivory Soap nor dishes of sand. No thank you, dear Vee!

I admit to a weakness for French milled goat milk soap from Scotland.......

  38. What fun to come and visit. It's like a breath of fresh air, a chat over the garden fence or at the kitchen table. Yakking about 'regular' stuff which is what life is made up of for the most part.

    Happy day... enjoy the soaps.

Sis and I used to put mustard atop sugar cookies when we were going out 'hiking' on the farm. We only did that when we were going 'hiking'. Otherwise we ate sugar cookies straight. Who knows what goes through kids' minds.
