A Quiet Lovely Day

Quiet, lovely days are just the way I best enjoy them where I can putter and play, eat chocolates, enjoy the flowers, and the beautiful, albeit tardy, greening.

~the greening~

Saw both the kids...one on her way to work and the other fresh back from a day with the other side of the house. It was all good. Hope that yours was, too.

Now to enjoy one more day of this idyllic weather before it returns to cold and rain for a week. One step forward, three steps back. So much of life is that way. I think I'll be playing and puttering more after today.

  1. Love the dahlias -- can't grow them here for some reason ... so I'll enjoy yours! Raspberry shortbread chocolate square -- give me a break Vee! I gained 5 pounds just looking at that slice! Enjoy! Happy Monday!

  3. I love these photos. I am glad you had a beautiful Mother's Day. Mine was quiet but I was content to be at home after plans were cancelled. I love the black and white checked cloth. With the runner draped across it. Have a wonderful week. I hope it doesn't get too cold, I just shut my heat off two days ago! xo

  4. Glad you had a good relaxing day. Same here, but no puttering. Enjoy the calm before the next storms. Now I'm off to make oatmeal for breakfast...

  8. Oh I agree..the nice, quiet relaxing days are some of the best. Glad you enjoyed! You have a week of cold and rain coming, and we have ANOTHER heat wave going to hit...104 predicted for Wednesday! Yuck...guess we will both have to muddle through. Enjoy your day Vee! Oh, and the pictures were lovely!

  9. I love days like you described. Your flowers are beautiful. We are suppose to have rain most of the week, though today it is sunny.

  10. The flowers and green leaves are so welcome! Glad you go to see your 'kids' and enjoy a nice day. I talked to all of mine which was very special to me! Happy Monday! Sweet hugs!

  11. So glad to see the "greening" going on in your neck of the woods. I love days like that too...it's my favorite thing to do...putter :)

  12. Beautiful photos Vee. It's about time we got some nice weather, isn't it? The blue trailing flower in with your dahlia is lobelia - usually a shade loving plant, so be a little careful with how much sun it gets. It also does not like to get too dry...

    1. Oh thank you, Linda! I could not remember for the life of me and figured someone would!

  13. Isn't that dahlia gorgeous! The light purple looks like annual lobelia, a nice 'spiller' in pots. Greening here too and it's been a long time coming but rain is in our forecast tonight as well.
Glad you had a laid back day, mine was the same which made it relaxing.

  14. I'm having a putter day too. Feeling unusually lethargic. I'm wishing it would cool off a bit and rain. It's already 80+ degrees in the southeast. [ugh] So, I'm hiding inside "working" on my elusive family genealogy. Hope your day continues easily also. ~:)

  15. You have just described my favorite type of day. Glad to hear that you had an enjoyable Mother's Day.
As I was scrolling through your lovely photos, I had to put the brakes on for the dessert shot. Raspberries, chocolate and shortbread in one tidy package atop that gorgeous blue and white plate. Oh my, it doesn't get any better than that combo. Is that a recipe you may be sharing? Hinting as I tiptoe out of here :D.

  19. For me dahlias will always be connected to September and the beginning of school. Because one of my first memories of the beautiful dahlia is when Mom wrapped a little bouquet of them in wet paper and a little bag so that I could take them to my teacher at school. I felt so proud to give them to her.

I'm glad you have a quiet, putter-y day....they offer those perfect little spots of peace in our busy lives.

    Lovely photos, Vee.

  20. I love your pots of flowers! The tiny blue one is Lobelia. I read today that the safe frost date is after May 20 for our area. So no annuals outside until then. I won't be shopping for them until then either. It is supposed to go down to 0C (32) tonight. I heard the hummingbirds are back and my feeder is out waiting for it's first visitor. I hope your forecast is wrong. It's supposed to 'warm and sunshine' for a few days here.

  23. Hello Vee, we are having cold and freezing rain here today! I did my first personnel photo challenge today, got in on the last hour of it! Tired today, but just enjoying a few new thoughts on how my camera works. Maybe I have more camera then skill... But at least I am trying!
    Have a great week!

  24. I do understand about the weather. The week we were gone, it rained all week. It did the same last week. Friday morning there was frost all over the lawn. It's suppose to do the same tonight. It is still raining and they are saying at least another day. We are seeing green, though, so that's a step in the right direction.

  25. This morning started out warm and sunny, right now it's thunderstorming, such is Spring. I have been looking for a light pink Dahlia like that, do you know what it's called?

  26. I am happy to hear that you had just the kind of day you wanted!! Win-win!
I am d-r-o-o-l-i-n-g over that shortbread, chocolate, raspberry dessert. Truly, all of my favorite flavors in one dessert. (We have a bar cookie recipe that has those three elements but we don't dare make them unless we are having taking them to an event or we are having company ourselves. I cannot be trusted with such lusciousness.)

  27. Lovely photos - all of them.
Nice that you got to see both your kids. : )

  28. Sounds like the perfect kind of day! I haven't had one of those in months! That dessert looks very yummy and I love the pots of flowers all lined up like that!

  29. I could have reached out and grabbed that chocolate/raspberry shortbread item right off your plate. Gosh that looks delicious. It is lovely to see the greening and blooming at last at your place. Beware...we just had a huge Winter Storm Zephyr zip through dropping several inches of snow and creating a lot of drama in my world on Mother's Day. I know it is heading east, but where will it finish up? Can we just directed it directly back to Canada before it gets to your place?

  30. The commenters bemoaning the hot weather...yeah that was us here last week. Be careful about complaining folks, you may be in for huge snowy surprise.

  31. Putter and play are the best days I think!
Gorgeous pots of Spring colour - they brighten up any grey day.
That sounds like typically fickle Spring weather in my neck of the woods too Vee!

  32. I love those kind of days. Also love all your pretty flowers....I don't have any yet but will get more interested in them when this wind and sand stops blowing....

  33. I just love these kinds of days.

I love your flowers - dahlias and lobelia. Beautiful.

  34. I love all your flowers, Vee! We had a foot of snow today, but it is melting fast and will be gone in a day or so. We need the moisture so it's all good! I'm just happy I did not plant anything as yet.

  35. Oh Vee...everything looks just gorgeous up your way! We are already hitting 90 degrees here in Georgia...ugh. Yes, your Spring may arrive later than ours but MERCY....you don't have to deal with this unbridled heat! Soon all that is not watered regularly will be drying up to dust....I hope you are doing so good and look at me, finally visiting!!! hugs and love, Dawn

  36. It all looks and sounds wonderful and definitely like my kind of day. I was scrolling through and thoroughly enjoying it all... but I do admit to coming to a screeching halt and parking on that raspberry chocolate shortbread for a few extra seconds. That looks delicious!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Don't you just love those kinds of days, Vee? I'd love a slice of the chocolate raspberry shortbread... mmmm! The tiny flower is lobelia, I believe. xo

  40. It looks like spring has sprung over there!

I had a quiet, peaceful Mother's Day as well...and it suited me just fine. We went for a picnic at a park...just the two of us...and read books in the sunshine beside the lake. The kids all stopped by in the evening. A good day, it was.

  41. Lovely photos Vee. So glad that you are enjoying yourself. So much going on here in my little corner of the world - I may be getting as much time as you to enjoy myself. I have to let go and let God.
