Do you visit NanaDiana? She's on a blogging break. If she weren't, she might be doing this kind of a post.

I have done these sorts of posts a few times through the years. It usually happens when I begin to ponder painting those kitchen cabinets of
mine — I am not even going to pretend that I have any intention of painting them. Twenty years later they're still going strong looking shabby. Say, anything you've put off for twenty years?

If you have an opinion about any of these kitchens, please feel free to share. Oh, and if you were to win one, which might you choose?

Personally, I think I could be very happy in a kitchen like this.↓

  1. If I were to win one of the above, I would choose number 5. I love the pops of color, the window over the sink. That amazing chef's stove and the farmhouse sink.

  2. I love number 5 as well, this is such an inspiration,

  3. HA! I can see I am back just in time to protect myself! lol I like #6 but would have a polished floor instead of a painted one. Glad to be back-xo Diana

  4. Well, I too have been contemplating for at least 3 years! The problem is I KNOW that painted cabinets can be a nightmare....been there, done that. But mine are sooo ugly they need to be either painted or replaced, and you know where that leaves me...(the one trying to save retirement money remember?) Soo believe it or not I have been contemplating red. And seeing this kitchen here I am even more convinced I would love it..

Hand and Foot was "our" game with my parents for years,.and years. We played teams...mom and I against the guys. How fun it was. Most Friday nights found us playing this. We haven't played since my step dad could no longer even sit up enough in his bed to do it...Hubby and I were saying just the other day we have to find somebody else who plays. It would be just a "short drive" over to your house on Friday night, lol..We should definitely plan it. Honestly. wish we could!

    Enjoy your day Vee!

  5. What fun... I'm caught between #5 (love the cupboards and the window at the sink) and your favourite, Vee. Kitchens in my view must have cozy spots for gathering with friends over a coffee.

  6. Number 6 please. I also really like Buttery Yellow. I love kitchens in general. Have a good day, Vee.

  7. 1-4 make me happy, especially those red cabinets, and I do like the last one you've shown! I have been pinning similar things, as my cabinets were cheap to begin with and we've had them for 13 years. A bit of paint to fix them up would be perfect.

Oh, if I lived closer I'd come help you paint! What fun we could have!

  8. I like the first kitchen, butter yellow sounds homey. Actually that's how I describe the yellow we painted our LR, DR and hallways and it's a soft colour I love.

  9. Yellow kitchens are my thing! My current kitchen with butter yellow walls, oak floor and oak cabinets is perfect for me. I especially like having an eat in kitchen!

  10. Mmmmmm! Gimme that red kitchen! I do love colonial anything ... and pierced tin, and darker colors that make for a warmer cozy feel when the wood stove is going! As for projects that have been put off forever ... reling the kitchen cupboards with shelf liner ... the thought of clearing everything out, stripping the old, cleaning the corners and putting dow the new has had me procrastinating since ... forever! Every time I think of doing it, I go the sewing machine instead ... or take the dog for a walk.

  11. I choose the second kitchen. It is so bright and cheerful!

  12. Oh, can I join the painting party when Deanna comes? ;)

Oh dear, I want to chat about each one...all the reasons that I do or don't like each one. But nobody has time for all of that! I will say, even though I don't have anything yellow in my entire house, that first kitchen is gorgeous...so warm and light-filled and inviting. It looks like a kitchen you would like, Vee, if I had my guess. And as much as I love the color red, I think that I might get tired of looking at it in kitchen #2. (Have you ever had wallpaper that you loved, but got tired of seeing it year after year because it has too much "presence"? Same thing.) I think I'd prefer my red to be something like that island in kitchen #5 or 6. That has presence!

Fun post!! Go ahead...paint those cabinets!

  13. Ohhhhhhhhhh...I love all them!!!! I would like #1, please..no wait..all of them! Can I have 6 diff. houses? (giggles)--Blessings

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh my...all of them are gorgeous but if I had to pick, #2 and #4 would be my choices....but I really like #1 too! I also have kitchen cabinets that are in need of painting. My walls are already red so I wouldn't paint them the red that I like so much in the pic...I will go with white when (if) I do decide...very small kitchen so I'm thinking white will make it appear a little larger. I did this when we lived in another house and painting the cabinets white made a WORLD of difference.

  15. Haha. 20 years? Oh yeah, our carpet upstairs. It's one of those things that is so expensive to replace and there's always something else that's a higher priority, so... But reallly. Plum Frizze is just a bit much in the 21st century! Love the kitchen photos. I want to build a pantry just so I can put a screen door like that on it! And the first white kitchen is my favorite, with that red island. Beautiful. I think I've settled on not painting my kitchen cupboards but maybe putting on new hardware and perhaps even cleaning them! :-O And going with a Stratton Blue by Benjamin Moore on the walls or a pale, soft sage. Both would look okay in here I think.

  16. I love the cabinetry and layout of #1, but so sure about the yellow. I'd rather they were painted white. We put in new cabinets several years ago in this house and I'll never paint them, but the cabinets in our previous house were old and we painted them white and I really liked them.

  17. Make that "not" so sure about the yellow!

  18. I love all of these kitchens!! All!! Blessings, Catherine

  19. I really like the yellow shade in the first photo. It feels like a breath of fresh air. Fun! Fun!

  20. Hi Vee! Number 4 gets my vote.....your kitchen should reflect exactly that...what makes YOU happy! Everyone looks good in peach!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ooh I wish I was planning a new kitchen as mine is past it's use by date haha!

I would love #6, the best feature for me is the window seat - it looks like a lovely spot to sit and read cookery books and contemplate or nod off on occasions!

  22. The screen door was amazing. Loved all the possibilities...

  23. I have been wanting to stain our cabinets a darker color. Still trying to convince Hubby that it's a good idea. This project may have to wait until he retires, and who knows when that will happen. I'm in no hurry. : )

    Smiles,
    Carol

  24. I love #5! I like a white background that I can add color to with accessories. After being stuck with pink countertops, I don't want to be stuck with any one color again.

  25. When I was trying to choose colors for my kitchen Houzz was the place I visited and the more I visited the more confused I became. I wanted everything they showed, as I do with these kitchens, great inspiration today. I think I might need to visit again, now that my kitchen is painted. ~smile~
    Thanks for sharing.

  26. After years of hating my kitchen cabinets, I finally took the plunge and had them painted. It was the best money I ever spent. I love them every time I see them. I didn't go online for research, since I knew the color I wanted to go with. But I did go online for validation, since I wasn't sure how they would look. Here's where I blogged about them if anyone is thinking of light aqua. :-)

  27. Oh what fun! I too love #5 but also lean towards #1 with the beadboard - it is a bit like mine. I love the punched tin on #2 and the fridge on #3 too. So hard to choose! We finally redid our country kitchen 10 years ago after living with the old one for 20! I still LOVE it and am so glad we spent the money. Just need to update my stove (not happy with it).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow! These kitchens make me pretty dissatisfied with my own! I could paint my cupboards, and probably should, and do a little redesigning, but I wonder if I could ever achieve this level of charm and brightness!

  29. # 1 and # 5. I love the buttery yellow in # 1. And that last photo is wonderful - so vintage looking. I do love our new kitchen though and am very happy we got it done over. Our front door entry is an eyesore. I priced out a new one and it's going to be expensive to replace but we could paint it and the side lights for a LOT less. Our house is 42 years old and although we've done a lot of upgrades there are more that need to be done. It's never ending. Our 'new' windows are already over 20 years old but they'll have to do for 10 more I expect.

  30. I like the yellow AND the red equally and wouldn't mind winning either one. : )

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like #1, but I would use French Country yellow and blue fabric. Red is my favorite color (#2), but I'm not sure that I could have the red cabinets unless I had lots and lots of windows. I like that very last kitchen because it (visually) makes me feel like smiling.

  32. I would choose #5, crisp and white with touches of colour, but I'm also very attracted to the buttery yellow #1. I've never lived in one home for 20 years, so I haven't put off anything! HA!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ok. I'm caught up with your posts, now!
I'm always partial to white cabinets, yellow walls and pops of color.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1 or 5 I think. Love the yellow and the lay out, but white is good too. I love those long tables that I'm seeing in new kitchens now. Have I put anything off for 20 years? I think so. Time flies you know and a the best of intentions can lag for that long.

    ReplyDelete
  35. #5. It's light and bright and clean but has pretty color here and there for fun. I love the cabinets in your choice too!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love all color kitchen. Each color has it's own texture to make them look good.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'll take 5...if I am the winner. :) I'm laughing about you putting off something for 20 years. I'm thinking right now of my makeshift window seat cushions...still waiting for the real thing. That's 10 years....and they aren't top priority, so I'm thinking they will likely still be makeshift in 20. Time flies!

  38. Oh Vee, such choices you've given us! Of course, I love the red one, but the white with color would be so easy to live with. I've thought about painting my cabinets, but the older I get, the less I want to do. In my younger years, I could whip projects out all the time, with four kids and all. Now, I can't live with the disruption. It's funny how we mellow, isn't it? All the kitchens you've shown have such a charm and hominess to them. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Consider me inspired. I love to look at creative kitchens. I kind of wish I had the guts to do something like that red one, but I know I would regret it. I put off painting my cabinets for 17 years. When I finally did it, I did it white. I love that white with color one the best, I think, so I guess I made a good choice for me.

And as for putting off something for 20 years?
Yeah, well, I did that with a desk of mine. Wasted two decades with it sitting in the attic. I have two more desks that I have been there just as long and still are,

And my sofa? Twenty years on that one, too. That was mainly for lack of funds and not desire or time.

But wait!!! Guess what is arriving today? My new one. Whooooopie!

  40. They're nice, but not my style. Not to be contrary, I don't personally care for any of them. They look like they'd be a lot of upkeep. I have all wood (solid knotty pine furniture grade plywood with polyurethane finish) cabinets and try to periodically wash the fronts of them. They get finger prints and grime otherwise. The insides have to be vacuumed occasionally also. It's not a "large" kitchen by modern standards but it's comfortable and easy to clean. Guess I'm a boring person. Not very showy. *lol* ~:)

  41. For me - I love the first one and also #3 with the additional of the screen door to the pantry in either one. I tend to collect clutter, tho, so throw all of them together and you've got my kitchen (including the rest of the house!!!)

  42. I love five and six. They are very similar. I love the French stove in that shade of blue, the blue and green floors with the red island, and the bookcases with the plates in number six. In number five I love the floor and the plates on the wall.

  43. They are all charming kitchens! The butter yellow and the red really caught my eye. My kitchen is lovely but has the oak cabinets that everyone seems to despise these days. I think the young girls think it looks too much like Momma's kitchen. All the young ones here want an all white kitchen. I prefer color! I won't paint my cabinets. however. I like them the way they are and then I would be afraid I'd have to change all my trim and so on.

    1. Feel free to buck the trend, Pat! We are older and wiser. I have zero intention of painting my oak pressed back chairs either! = D

  44. I like the all white kitchen. It seems cheerful and bright. I had white cabinets at one time and they are hard to keep clean though. So when I repainted my kitchen a few years ago I chose a beige color. I also like kitchen where the top cabinets are white and bottoms are a color like black or red.
