Table Topper

What's this you say? What happened to Donna's Photo Challenge? Welllllll, I am pulling a woman's prerogative thing. Our photo session yesterday was less than I had hoped and so I am setting all my hopes on today's trip with my daughter and the grands. (Though, yesterday, both grands had a buzz cut.) We'll see. If all else fails, there's always Fioré (the cat).

This is a table topper and a simply embellished tea towel I worked on this week and got done in time for my daughter-in-law's birthday. That's why I have the grands today. She is off for a birthday adventure with her mom and sister, aunts and cousins. They'll have a wonderful time on this glorious weekend.

Back to the table topper — the pinwheels were just ever so slightly off so I sewed a button on after the quilting was done. Okay, I really sewed a button on before the quilting was done, brilliant I am not. Removing the button was easier than ripping out the pinwheels as some of my blogging buddies would have done. You know who you are! (I am too lazy to be a perfectionist.)

What about you? At what point do you decide that it's good enough or are you a perfectionist?

I've got to zip. I'll be visiting later this evening. It'll be my pleasure, too.

  3. Morning Vee! It's gorgeous here I even have the windows open - although they'll be shut before I head out to work. I love the little imperfections - it gives character. I'm definitely not a perfect kinda gal. Some may say otherwise, but really I'm not.

    Have a wonderful day!

  4. I like your table topper. Yes, I am a perfectionist, but as years have gone by I let things slip by that were not so perfect.

  5. Vee, I love your quick-fix on the pinwheels. I'm not much into ripping out, either.

  6. The table topper is lovely, Vee! Your solution with the button is a clever one and so much easier than ripping out. Imperfections show we are humans and no one really looks that closely, I've learned.

  7. I am not a perfectionist, and certainly not with quilting! It is not recommended. For historical verisimilitude one is not supposed to be perfect. ;-> Those early quilters often were not. I really like the colors you used in your table topper, Vee.......The blue sings.

  8. Good morning! Well first let me say I LOVE the topper! Soo pretty and I love the corners on the border. And the button is not only darling, it was BRILLIANT! And then, unfornately yes I know you know I am the queen of the perfectionists and am constantly ripping out something.. You would have laughed at me yesterday as I was working on the pillow for my sister. You name it, it went wrong. But! when it was time for the third time to rip, I simply took my rotary cutter and cut it off and started again, lol. Now I am sure you are thinking now she is simply wasting fabric, which I guess is technically true...sigh. I had to tell myself it is never wasted if you learn something from it. Weak I know, but it was the best I could do!. lol However the thing is FINALLY right so today I will move on to the back of the pillow. Yes, it has been ALL about the front this week so far. I need to say this however....It is still NOT perfect. Don't know if that is even possible when it comes to my sewing, haha. But it is finally good enough, lol. Have a wonderful, wonderful day with the grands!

  11. Your dil is a lucky girl. I love both of your pretties you made. I am no longer the perfectionist I used to be. I think the buttons are a perfect solution. Wishing you a very nice day.

  12. Now, you know, I never would have noticed the imperfection if YOU hadn't mentioned it! Now my eyes keep drifting to that point on the fabric ... *giggle*
My point of perfection is when I lose my temper and throw something or just get tired. Then I quit.
Hope you're having a great time with the grands. It's not so hot here today (lower 90s). Might actually venture outside and absorb a little Vitamin D courtesy of Mr. Sun. ~:)

  13. I'm not a fan of the seam ripper, so I like your thinking with that button!

  14. I'm with you! I love it the way it is.

  15. So not a perfectionist, Vee. I wish I was a little bit anal sometimes, bit it doesn't happen. I make no excuses, it is how I am. I have learned to live with it! lol. xo

  16. Now I understand why you were practicing those mitered corners. Thank you for the button idea. I just might use that idea one-day! Your daughter-in-law will treasure such a lovely gift.

  17. I am impressed with your work and the time you took to make it even more attractive with your oval photos! Hope you are having a great day with your boys -- you must miss having them around every day. Or maybe you're enjoying a rest! :-)

  18. I am not a perfectionist. I'm a that will do person just let me throw a button on it kind of gal. It is probably painful at times for the perfectionists in my life to watch me and for me it's painful to have to wait until something is perfect with my perfectionists. When my perfectionists are working I like to leave the house and come back latter when they are all done...

  19. I don't think I'm a perfectionist, but others think I am. I know that I'm writing this after having my eyes dilated for an eye exam and I can't tell if the points match or not. It looks beautiful to me, in soft focus.

  20. Great table topper...I know your daughter-in-law is thrilled to be the recipient of such a lovely gift!

I am sorry to say that I am a perfectionist in some areas, although I try to overcome it. In quilting, however, I am not. I saw an article in Country Living magazine years ago that said that many modern quilters actually design a flaw or two in their quilts to make them appear authentic. That took the pressure off!

  21. I'm a perfectionist with some things, but not the ones I craft. The tour guide for our trip to Ireland is a friend and it was her birthday the Saturday I arrived so I made her a card. Inside I stamped a dragonfly, put some glitter on it and closed the card before it was dry. Hmm, what to do with a smudge, why I punched out a colourful butterfly and glued it over top! Perhaps our mistakes and coverups are what make our crafted items unique.

  22. I love this topper, Vee. I tend to be a perfectionist, but with each passing year I find myself letting things slide in that department, especially when it come to sewing. Ha!

  23. I'm not a perfectionist but I do like things to be done right. Does that make sense?? I think the table topper and towels are lovely. You are always such a busy and fun gal... love visiting here. :)

  24. I am not a perfectionist these days. I might have been at one time. I like the topper and the towel. The button in the centre works I think. :) It's cooler at night right now (in a sweatshirt) but sunny and hot for the weekend. Do enjoy it!

  25. I love the topper and that you aren't a perfectionist. I can never seem to get it just right - I stress a little - but rarely rip anything out to redo! The Table runner that I'm working on right now leaves a lot to be desired (my quilting is awful and I'm too afraid to try the machine quilting root). I'm learning from my mistakes or at least I hope I am! Have fun with those sweet boys and hope you'll share some fun pictures - have a great weekend!

  26. Lovely topper! You already know that I am a perfectionist, LOL. It's a curse more than a blessing.

  27. Love both of the sewing projects. I've embellished a few dish towels like that on. And I would have sewn a button on there too. A perfectionist I definitely am not!
