First Snow

This is what I woke to...a mere dusting. I am not ready for snow so I am glad of the reprieve — a dusting instead of six to eight inches. After the winter we last endured, I'm not ready for winter again. Even a lovely summer and a pleasant autumn have not dulled the memory of that foul winter and frigid spring. Mercifully, the snow is already gone. Now the grass will probably green up and we'll have to mow. Yes, I will take a little cheese, thank you. I think I must put myself back in the corner for another week. ☺
You have a pleasant one and stay cozy.

  1. We got close to 2 inches...yep...it was miserable walking to and from classes with heavy snow squalls and wind....HOWEVER---I love this weather, no matter how miserable it was, lol. Thanks for the smiles and nice to see you. Blessings

  2. Hi Vee, A lot of my blog friends are experiencing snow this week. Day before yesterday, our high was 70; today it is 40! Wishing you both a very nice weekend.

  3. Oh dear Vee, snow already...I'm so glad it was just a dusting. We didn't have the winter you had last year but I'm feeling like winter has come to soon this year. I mowed our icy lawn today just to vacuum up many of the fallen leaves. I do hope your winter this year is not as brutal and long as last year!! Now I think a good hunk of cheese will go well with a nice glass of wine....

  4. No snow here, but yours looks very pretty. There's something magical about the first snow. It's the piles and piles of it that come later that get to be wearisome.
This morning I had to scrape the windshield for the first time.

  5. It does look very pretty! I hope the sun comes out and warms things for the weekend! Sweet hugs, Diane

  6. Oh my Vee, I love this picture; there is something quietly mysterious about it. It reminds me of one of my very favorite poems, "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening," by Robert Frost. It is a lovely snow, but I can well understand your not wanting snow again (probably for a long time after last year). Thank you for sharing the picture with us. It's been very cold and blustery here in N.C. today, but no snow in our area. I understand our mountains got some snow last night, though.

I've been thinking of you and missing you; I'm glad you're checking in periodically. :) Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

    Hugs,

  7. It's me again, Vee. :) I forgot to tell you that I LOVE your new header. I like the Currier & Ives covered bridge.

  8. We got about 3/4 of an inch. Just enough to be beautiful but to not mess up the roads.

I'm not sure if I'm ready for winter either but I do like the chill weather at this time of year. It seems right for the holidays.

Happy Weekend to you and John.

  9. This is so pretty...I love the first snow. None here but a few flakes you had to squint to see! But 25 degrees. Yuk Illinois!

  10. Hi Vee,
I love your Fall header and your snowy picture. I can understand your not being ready for wintry weather since you endured such a long one last year. I can never believe that here in Texas it can be so brutally hot and yet we have have freezing temperatures already.
It's good to hear from you. Stay cozy!

  11. Snow is always exciting to us - but then we are Texans!! There is a RUMOR we will have snow flakes on Monday!!!! I'm just happy the cold is finally freezing out some of my allergy inducing pollen around here!! I would LOVE to live where you do - for a little while!!

  12. Lovely pic Vee - glad you didn't get inches though!
Cold here tonight but no white stuff thankfully - too early for that!

Hope you are well - always so nice to see you pop up!
    Hugs - Mary

  13. As you know, I have more than a passing interest in the weather in Maine these days.

I am glad that you got a reprieve. I, too, remember the bitter winter of last year. It was brutal. Like none that I can remember. So it's nice to get a reprieve, isn't it?! Even so, your photo is beautiful!

  14. Beautiful picture, Vee. We also got some snow during the last couple of days, about 4-inches. It's supposed to snow again tomorrow. I must admit that I love the snow so I am looking forward to it :)

Stay warm, my friend. Hugs to you!

  15. Well I have visited a few of my blogging buddies today who have gotten some snow. I can see why that might not have excited you, but it sure was pretty! We have had 2 days in a row that have barely broke 70 so I am feeling pretty perky over here. Still wearing my Capri pants but I can see a need possibly soon to dig out some jeans...lol (hopefully!) Enjoy your week-end Vee!

  16. I'm glad you popped in and shared the photo. It is quite lovely, although I can easily see why you don't want a repeat of last winter.

  17. I'm just totally thrilled in that it was cloudy and cool yesterday. All day. A miracle! :)

  18. We are expecting a little snow in Missouri today too.

  19. I was not ready for our first snow on Nov 1 for the same reason. Last winter was brutal here. Today it is cold and in the 30's.

  20. Vee, I feel the same way about winter. The older I get the less I like it...but I do make it through. Blessings for a great weekend, xoxo,Susie

  21. The snow is always lovely but I hate the thought that the snow and cold has come already. It will make for a long winter like last year.

  22. They've had 3 feet -- 3 feet!!! -- in the northern Michigan upper peninsula. I think we all have PTSD from last winter. I don't mind it much if I can stay inside in front of a fire with a book.

  23. Vee, it looks so beautiful. I am still in North Carolina, but I am flying home in December. I'll be home for Christmas and then some. I hope that you build a snowman.

  24. I know you aren't ready for snow yet but I can appreciate the beauty of your dusting a dawn's light. Enjoy the cheese!

  25. I so agree! We escaped this one. Have a blessed weekend!

  26. I guess that's the beginning of winter...how lovely, but so very early to appear! Sigh....stay warm and hopefully the sun will shine today!

  27. How lovely! I do hope we get some pretty snows this winter. I'm sure that I will grumble if the weather interferes with getting Jim to and fro doctor appointments and my trips to the store. But I will put faith in my little Subaru to safely get us through our journeys. Most of all, I love the quiet of a fresh snowfall.

  28. I love it when the snow arrives. Not that I'm an outdoor person particularly but I enjoy the beauty and morning walks with the dog before the hustle and bustle of people leaving for work and school buses on the road.
I drove north into the snow belt for a meeting this morning and the one gal that lives further north said they have a foot of snow already which is here to stay.
Stay warm Vee, hope you have some good books put by to read over winter.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh no! Where are you- north? I am so not ready for snow.. Stay warm.

  30. I agree with you Vee. And this was just enough to make it pretty. We had the same dusting here while east of here got a few inches. Have a great week!

  31. Lovely photo of the snow. Glad to hear it left quickly. We're not having the same fortunes here; it's been snowing pretty much all day. Beautiful, but I am so *not* ready for snow!

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's a very pretty photo but like you I am not ready for the oncoming winter. It's already brutally cold and I am not a happy camper at all!! I wish I could hibernate.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I adore snow but like you I am not yet ready for winter. The North winds are arriving here and blowing all the pretty leaves off the trees. It won't be long til frost is on here. Nothing to do but cozy up and enjoy.

  34. Dear Vee - you sound melancholy. Here's hoping for a mild and sunny Winter - is that too much to ask for Mother Nature? Sometimes quilting helps me beat the November dull drums. Take care and stay cozy over there.

  35. Winter does hit pretty hard after last year's "Polar Vortex." Our first we'll-need-to-shovel snow is falling right now as I type this. I do love it when I don't have to get out in it.

    Your blog is delightful.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh Vee! Wasn't it lovely to wake up to? I went out on the terrace in my slippers and bathrobe to take a few shots. It was just magical!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Not so bad - I have to tell you it is cold here - no snow!

  38. brrrr...got our first snow today.

  39. It's fascinating how your lovely photo can make snow look blue ... we got our first major snow this weekend. Today we shoveled 5-6 inches of it so we could go to church... but we do love living in a 4-season climate!

    1. Since you live with snow, you know how very often it can appear blue depending upon the light. Whoever said that there was no such thing as blue snow, must live on the equator. ☺

  40. We had a couple snowfalls last week--expected with our high altitude and the arctic blast we were experiencing--broke weather records for November in Colorado! It always looks so pretty when the snow falls..I can actually feel my blood pressure going down when I watch it--and now thathubby is home all day and will shovel gleefully it is even better--lol! I love Max Lucado's writngs and own a few of his books. I enjoyed the video on your next post, Vee. Prayer is allways the answer.

  41. Vee, I found your blog through Barb's. Love your pictures and encouraging words. I became a "follower" and look forward to reading more! We've no snow yet but it is quite cold here.

  42. thank you for the encouraging Sunday post; it was a gift.

  43. Just catching up here...on posts I had missed. Smiling at the bleak picture you painted here...being snowed in on the one hand or having to mow the grass on the other. How are things looking there now? We are hearing about the heavy snowfall on the east coast.

Gotta love Max Lucado. There is a man that has a way with words!
