A Haven for Vee

Snap Out of It!

Those are the words that I have been telling myself for a while now. Every day that I allow to go by without blogging makes it a little more challenging to return and I do hope to...return that is.
There's not a whole lot going on around here beyond the storms that have been coming since the first arrived on January 27 leaving us with...wait for it...27 inches (68 cm) of snow. The irony. Once upon a time, we had a plow and a
snowblower — two snowblowers actually. One belonged to my sister; the other John sold for a song. Now we have four arms, four legs, and two backs. None of them are working too well. In fact, my excuse for not being here a little earlier is that I couldn't lift my elbows from all the shoveling and scooping. ☺
While we may not be in great shape, the luge is doing splendidly.
Nothing more to report from this corner. Are you buried in snow, too?

  1. No snow but still the doldrums of winter. Enjoy each day Vee. If you don't want to blog then don't. Seasons come and go. I don't think I have much to say anymore that people want to hear. Blogging has changed. But it is good to hear from you. Enjoy your day!

  2. I love your pretty banner my friend and we watch the weather every day and wonder how much snow you have. It seems like they mention Maine in every report. We have noticed some find white sand on the trails that we hike that looks like snow. Does that count? SO nice to hear from you and John! Give him a hug for me. I haven't forgotten that he's written me poetry. Sweet hugs, Diane

  3. No snow here, but we have a heavy rain warning. When we first moved to the coast I thought those warnings were the funniest things. Now I take them seriously.
I've missed your posts, but believe me - I understand the need for a blogging break. Life intrudes sometimes. Sometimes, though, we just need to recharge. All your readers will still be here! In the meantime, take care of your back and arms!

  4. Vee, it is SO GOOD to see a post from you!! I miss you a lot! :) I know what you mean about blogging though; I'm having a hard time getting back into my blogging rhythm since the holidays, and here it is February. I've just lost my train of thought or something.

I love, love your header; it's beautiful. I truly didn't realize you had so much snow in Maine this year; it's like a re-cap of last winter (unfortunately, huh). I do love seeing your pics of the luge, though -- how fun for those grandsons is that?!

I was thinking of you earlier this week so was very excited when your post popped up on my blogroll. Take care of yourself (don't slip and fall in the snow) and we'll be here when you return.

    Blessings,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  5. Well I am sure I speak for many when I say I have really missed you....but do I ever get it! It is hard to keep up. I have kind of swung over to instagram as it takes a moment. But then it is no where near the same either. Anyway, guess I don't have to tell you. NO snow over here, lol. In fact we are in the upper 70's and lower 80's for the next few days. Weather honestly is just gorgeous. Warm during the day but drops into the upper 40's at night so you can curl around a guilt for TV and get toasty under blankets to sleep. I've only shut out bedroom window once all winter so far! lol. (I like it cool when I sleep!) Yes, So. California is hard to beat when it comes to weather, but then that's why were knee deep with people too, lol. Take care Vee, and keep warm!

  6. Here along the Front Range of Colorado (the Denver side of the Rockies), we have very light snow falling this morning. We get so much sunshine here that even the deepest of snows don't last very long -- except for the mountains, and of course, that snow lasts all winter long for the skiers!

I always enjoy your blog posts when you have the time/energy/inspiration to write. Go easy on yourself with that snow removal project!

  7. I noticed your new banner too, very nice with a winter theme and hint of Valentine's Day. Almost a green grass Christmas to everyone getting lots of snow since January! I've heard we have a fair bit at home and am thankful we arrived in Florida ahead of a nasty storm. It has been in the low 70's, a bit cool for this granny to dip in the pool but I'm not complaining.
Stay warm and go for it on the luge again this year!

  8. Yes I agree with Judith, a sweet new banner. Do take care of yourself. All that shoveling has to be hard…Where's the ibuprofen. Here if it ever comes, we can just wait for it to melt if we don't want to shovel. But I know you have to get out eventually, groceries, etc. The sledding looks wonderful!

  9. Hi Vee...I have been thinking about you and my other northern blogging buds a lot since these storms have hit. Glad you have made it through...and wow, that's a LOT of snow to be shoveling by hand, girl! I have been missing you here in blogland and was glad to see this post from you. You know, I can't watch an episode of Downton without thinking of you either! So glad that luge is up and running smoothly! Keep warm, friend!

  10. Always, always nice to see a new post from you, Vee. I can, however, understand what you say about getting with it when it comes to blogging. Some days are just better than others it seems. I hope you never decide to abandon it completely as you would be greatly missed. Blogging has definitely changed and it seems more and more of our old friends have stopped altogether. I can't imagine a world with no blogging as it has become such a big part of life for me. I guess if that day comes life will go on yet I'd prefer not to think of it today. Ha!
As you might guess we have no snow here. I can't even imagine 27 inches at this point. I sympathize with your aching elbows.
The luge appears to be getting a lot of action. How fun for them and what wonderful memories are being made.

  11. That's a lot of snow to shovel! I hate to admit it, but I just bury myself deeper under the covers while my husband goes out and uses the snowblower in the mornings, boy am I spoiled! Nice to see you back for a visit, Vee, and I love your new header.

    ReplyDelete
  12. No need to apologize Vee - I totally understand. Yes - lots of snow here too but the advantage of living on a farm is there is always a neighbour who comes early in the morning with a John Deere and Snow blower!! Looks like the luge is making the best of your snowy winter - stay warm and cozy in your haven!

  13. Nothing like you have there. We are getting another 2-4 as I type on top of the 4 we have. Not bad. I've been like you. Absent. Good to hear from you though.

  14. No snow...full sunshine...80 degrees in the forecast for Sat.
Regarding movies...the two I've watched a little while and had to sit out in the lobby for the rest of the movie was the one about 9-11 and UNBROKEN....even knowing how the real story turned out, it was brutal. Just couldn't watch any more so while Mr. Sweet watched, I played on my phone in the lobby.

  15. snap out of it...I like those words...I have been in the doldrums of blogging for almost a year but recently I have decided to try it again and I'm really enjoying reconnecting with blogging friends. We did have a couple of warmer weeks in mid January with a few days where it was even above zero so melting and freezing was occurring with the highways bare some days. But there is still snow on the fields and piled at least waist high along the driveway. Another snowstorm is expected over the next few days. We are heading south for a winter break and will be enjoying sunshine and warm weather by this time next week. I am packed and crossing my fingers that our 3 hour drive to the airport will be good and that the roads will be cleared. Welcome back Vee!

  16. It's so good to see your post! You can't give up blogging...you just can't! We'd miss you too much. Sez the one who has to take frequent blog breaks herself. But, I miss it when I've been away a week or so and have to jump back in the blog pool.
I can't imagine having as much snow as you and several other blog friends have had! We have an inch or two here and they call off school. lol! Wish it had been that way when my kids were in school. We've only had maybe a total of 2-3 inches in my area so far this winter, but some is on the way later today, they say.
I love the snow scene in your pretty header photo! Take care and stay safe and warm.
PS Don't pay any attention to me, you have to do what is best for you. But I do sincerely hope you won't quit blogging any time soon! :) Now, I'm off to check out your Pinterest board.

  17. We got between 9 inches and a foot of snow a couple days. Shovelling can be hard work! A couple years back our tractor quit working so we had to do *a lot* of shovelling--paths to the shop and chicken building through mountainous drifts, as well as our driveway. Thankfully we now have a deal with our neighbor who has a snowblower on his tractor to clear out the snow at our place.

Happy to see you posting again! It's strange how sometimes it's so easy to write post after post, and at other times it's a real struggle to just get one posted! You do have a good excuse though. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Love your header! So nice to "see" you. Sounds like you and your arms need a Calgon moment. Remember those commercials?! Gentle hugs.....

  19. It's hard to get into a regular habit of blogging once away for a bit and yes we are buried in snow. Yesterday it decided to disburse the lovely little flakes at rush hour, how delightful!

    ReplyDelete
  20. No snow in Texas. In fact, we are going to warm into the 70's for the weekend. Winter lasts so long in Maine. However, once spring arrives...it's stunning! Keep looking forward Vee. Glad to see you blogging again!

    ReplyDelete
  21. We have no snow here---it seems to elude us this year. That's a lot of hard work you and John have been up to. Please be careful. I love the luge again at your place. The grands must be in heaven! ♥

    ReplyDelete
  22. There you are!! Welcome back Vee. I've sure missed your posts. And you know we have snow up here too because you keep sending it this way. :) No offence. At least it's good luging weather. I'm sorry you and John have to do all the shovelling yourselves. Take it easy. See you again soon, I hope.

  23. So glad to see a post from you! I have been wondering about my friends in the north. The snow looks beautiful to me but my husband tells me its only because I have never lived in it! We are having a lot of rain in the south, cold nights and warming in the day!

    ReplyDelete
  24. So nice to see a post from you. We are having snow every other day but don't have as much as you do. We have a snow blower that Ken uses but I enjoy shoveling so I'm out there doing that. If we had over 2 feet though Ken would be out there with the snow blower.

  25. Rather buried, but totally shocked to notice around 4pm that it was snowing very heavily and my daughter told me it will continue "for a long time". Mercy! Spring will be so welcome this year, but it's still far off!
I am thrilled to see your post, Vee! I am even happier to hear you plan to continue. You have certainly been missed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lovely header, Vee! Though I still revisit that old fashioned Christmas picture that you posted a few weeks ago.
Ah yes, the luge! Those are 2 blessed grandsons you have! They will never forget it!
We have maybe 5 inches of snow. Our latest trend has been to get 1-3 inches of snow overnight on Sunday. Which is fine, though I do have to be at work by 7:30 Monday morning! Just takes a little more time to clean off the truck..... Nothing like what you have, though. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi Vee, I've missed you! I guess you have been busy shoveling...and luge-building! We have about a foot of snow and the sight of it is stunningly beautiful. My thought is that the beauty is the reward for going through cold and difficult driving conditions. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wel! Missy!, it's about time,~smile~ I was going to e-mail you this evening, to see what you were doing with all that snow, so now I know. Glad to see you posting. You have been missed!

  29. No snow here in GA - but tell me why did you get rid of your snow blowers? That is a lot of snow!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love the snow photos, even tho I enjoyed the "warmer" weather in the south, I do enjoy the snow. We got snowed in at our son's in lower Michigan while picking up our dog and had to stay there a couple of days. I was just happy that we weren't stuck in a hotel or worse yet in a snow bank or wayside on the way home.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it is the winter doldrums. I am wanting snow, we've had so little. I loved seeing your pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Welcome back - and hopefully to stay, madame! You are sorely missed in blogdom! ♥

My word you certainly have had oodles of snow - we've had a lot but nothing as you have. Yikes.

Time for a new snowblower, seriously, that's way too much for you guys. OUCH.

Take care, stay warm and dry and happy and just keep thinking about spring! Hugs!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I see you brave and bundled up ones are out there enjoying your version of the Winter Olympics yet again!
Happy to know you are OK, although worn out from shoveling I'm certain. Hang in there Vee, Spring will come.
We haven't had a single snowflake YET this season - would be happy to have a little dusting some day soon to take some pics of the birds etc.

    Hugs - Mary

  34. (Why is it that my Blogger dashboard only shows me your new posts sporadically? Yours and Deanna's. I "followed" both of your blogs in the same window of time, so I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Whatever...it is frustrating. Grrrr.)

So...happy to see you popping in for a little chat! Oh my...27 inches?! That's a lot of shoveling! I hope that you're both resting well in the evenings after all that work. I am sure that the grands are not minding the snow, not when it means that the luge is back!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yikes! We don't have as much snow as you do (only about 14"), but we just bought our first snowblower this year and are so happy we did. I have such a hard time blogging this time of year, not a lot going on. I piddle around with some crafts and filling the etsy shop, but mostly I try not to go to sleep. I AM glad to have you pop in and try to get your blogging mojo back! 42 days until Spring :>)

    ReplyDelete
  36. What a lot of snow to have to move! I often complain that living in Florida deprives me of the 4 seasons but when I hear of snow storms like yours, I'm thankful I don't have to shovel my way out and drive in it. Take care and blog when you can. I always enjoy your posts.

    ReplyDelete
  37. We don't have the amount of snow that you do here in central NH, but it does seem to snow part of every day lately. I love your header. What a gorgeous vignette for February!

    ReplyDelete
  38. There's a fair amount of snow here in our world ... and this morning's deposit is really pretty! As for your non-blogging blogging dilemma, I find that bloggers all have 'crests and troughs' ... it usually happens for me when I've been contemplating a change of direction within my blogs. I think it's a healthy thing to take a vacation from writing. One comes back to it with a bit of a different voice and perspective ...

    ReplyDelete
  39. No snow. The piddling amount disappeared in hours here. I feel quite cheated! I too love the blog look. Beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's a lot of snow! No snow here, just cold and windy. We did have flurries the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Glad you're back. Your blog is looking lovely. I really like the header.
Of course, there is no snow in SE Georgia but we are nearly underwater these days. It seems like all it's done is rain. And with no active plant life to soak it up yet, the water is in pools everywhere. It's making for a slushy winter, if nothing else.
Guess who's now hooked on Downton Abbey? Yeah, yours truly. We purchased Seasons 1-4 the UK uncut versions. We're both enjoying the program immensely. They are now officially My Stories. *giggle*
Stay warm and safe up there my friend. ~:)

  42. I did a little happy dance, figuratively speaking as it's not quite 8 am here, when I saw your post pop up in my reader! You've been missed.
There we were, in Mexico, watching a bit of CNN blathering on about the blizzard of the century, and you and John were the ones I thought about, hoping that you were safe and cozy. I also wondered about the luge status for this year, so I'm glad you gave an update on that.
Take care of those legs and arms and backs.
Here - as Pondside has said - it's rain, rain, rain. Another Pineapple Express blowing in from Hawaii.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hello dear Vee! 27 inches...ouch. That's a lot of snow. So sorry about your aches and pains. No snow here in Western Washington but Eastern Washington and my son's home has gotten some. Our mountains are low in snow and skiers are complaining. They'd love for you to share. Yes, Lorrie, Pondside and ellen b. are growing webbed feet from all the rain. Quack Quack! Love your header!

    ReplyDelete
  44. It looks like you have had an overshare of snowflakes at your house. I remember shoveling..I was a lot younger in those days, but I ached just the same. Take it easy so you don't pull anything. Nothing here to report except for cold, cold, cold.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That luge looks like so much fun! We've only had about a couple inches of snow this year. It's been way too dry, but 27" is a bit much. Take care of yourself and be careful with that shoveling.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Snow...what's that? Haha, here in Western Washington we have been having a very mild winter. It would be nice to have a least one snowfall before spring arrives!
I hear you on the blogging. I have not blogged in quite awhile, I mean to, but get busy with other things.
Hope you have a lovely day!

    ReplyDelete
  47. That luge looks like so much fun!!! Do YOU go down it??? I loved the pictures of your snow. Texas is having one of our mildest winters EVER!!!! although it is COLD today - in the 20's when I woke up over here in Quadville (all four babies are sick) and I think it's now in the 30's. Will be in the 60's tomorrow and 70's the next day!!! I wonder what you gurs are eating? With all that snow - I would be simmering soups non stop!
Stay as warm as possible! I cannot EVEN imagine your winter!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hello Vee
This is a lovely surprise to find your new post!
I wasn't expecting it and came over to read the title of your new devotional for this year - Got that now!
Oh my all that snow - I'm not surprised about the aching backs - an hour or two in the garden does me in these days!
What a magic wonderland for young boys (and girls) with a sled!
27 inches is a lot of snow on the ground - how do the little plants survive to pop their little heads up once Spring gives her merry call? God is clever working all this out and all is well with my soul!
    love
    Shane

  50. :-) Not buried but there's about 10 inches of white outside. This is the time of year that winter seems to drag. Happy to see you!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Buried? Yes, we are buried. Snowbanks so high, I can't even see my neighbor's house. Snow is waist deep or higher in places that have not been shoveled or plowed. Some drifts are higher than that. Over the last 8 school days, the kids have missed 5 1/2 days. So glad you're back Vee. Sorry about all the shoveling. Maybe you could stand outside with a plate of cookies with a big sign, cookies in trade for plowing our driveway. It might work, you never know. Love that last picture in the collage with John peeking out the window. ~ Abby

  52. Oh, my... I can't even imagine that much snow! We've had very little this year here in the valley of East Tennessee although the mountains are a different story. Your snow is gorgeous, although I'm sorry you have so much shoveling to do! It's nice to see you back here. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Just when I'm missing you, you share a post! Hurray! I love seeing a peek I to your daily life! You and John have had your work cut out for you!

Hurray too, for the return of the luge!

  54. Hi Vee
So glad to see the boys are getting joy from the snow! And I bet you are having fun watching them, serving up the hot chocolate and drying their mitts between runs.
You take care and don't hurt yourself with that shoveling!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love seeing that the luge is in action again! You are missed ~ A LOT! I haven't been doing much with my blog, either. It seems that I'm trying to get organized and, unfortunately, one project leads to another!

    ReplyDelete
  56. How FUN the luge looks! I wanna try it! Bet John wishes he had that snow-blower back!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Glad you are back! Your grandsons love the snow -- looks like their luge is lots of fun!

Our weather has been fairly mild this winter but I heard on the news tonight an arctic blast is coming through next week and will bring significant snow.
