Old Costumes

Sometimes I think this here blog is to bring all the loose ends of my life together. ☺
Recently, I was digging about in the old boxes, of which there is no end, when out tumbled my ballet costume and my tap dance costume circa 1960 something. I first showed a photo of my tap dancing troupe back *here* if you'd be interested to see it.
I carefully laundered both outfits; one did much better than the other. They're now hanging in my sewing room.

***

Three posts in one week. Hmmm... don't want that to become a habit. Have you found a good schedule for posting yet? I used to be an every day poster; now I just admire those who are. When posts become as lame as this one, a gal knows that it is time to slow down.

Have a blessed weekend! See you next week.

  1. How cute! It is nice to see the costumes in color as the troupe photo is black & white. Precious memories!

I would not call this post lame; I enjoyed it and am sure others did too.

Personally, I would love to post every day if I only had the time. Too much else going on in my life! I just aim to post in both blogs "as often as possible" which usually works out to be several times a week.

  2. I'm trying to think if I have anything from the 60's. I know I don't have anything from the 50's for sure. How fun to find these costumes. Have a nice weekend, Vee!

  3. This is NOT a lame post, I love it. I checked out your linked post, the sweetest picture I've seen all day. What fun to hang these in your sewing room. I don't have a posting schedule.

  4. I find your posts interesting Vee and 3 times a week is not too many. How neat to find your old dance costumes! What wonderful memories they must bring back. I took ballet for a couple of years but didn't have a costume or a tutu even. I don't think I even had ballet slippers! How can one do ballet without those? I loved to watch the girls practicing their Highland dancing in the next room and wished I could try it. I loved to see their kilts flying and their black slippered feet dancing over the swords. I sure wish I could move as freely (and without pain) today as I did then! Have a great afternoon.

  5. This was a fun read Vee - but makes me realize how much older I am than you! I left home and came to the US in '62 - had given up tap dancing and ballet by then, but was really quite good at doing The Twist in Washington DC's hot night spots, haha!
How lovely your mom saved the costumes - what memories they must stir.

Yes, I miss your almost daily posts, BUT am truly glad to see you still blogging often.
    Hugs - Mary

  6. Oh not all, friend...this was a really fun post! I am still staying steady at 1 to 2 posts a week. There really shouldn't be any pressure for those of us who are just doing this for fun, right? I'm just glad you're back :)

That is correct, Debby, I no longer receive your comments to my inbox. I'll be sure to approve any comment calling me "adorable." LOL! Thank you. =D

  7. This is not lame! It's sharing our lives together! You are adorable, then and now!

I'm glad you found these costumes. They are perfect for your sewing room!

As for posting, I still try to post every day though I don't always accomplish that. I generally make 4-5 days a week.

  8. Cute costume. I don't really have a routine to blogging.

  9. Precious memories, for sure! How nice that those costumes are still around...and looking cute as ever. I don't think any of my clothes from the 50's or 60's are still around. Most of them got handed down to the sisters that came after me. And there were never any cute dance costumes in my closet!

Still thinking about that Lovell House. Did we drive through Lovell? I can't find it on the map.

  10. Oh what a treasured find this was! Aren't you happy you saved those!!!

  11. Not a lame post at all Vee! I loved it! Judging from that photo, and the year, I'd say we're about the same "vintage". I took ballet for two years, when I was about 6yrs old or thereabouts. (1960-62?) I was long-legged and did not have great balance so I'm sure Mum put me in these lessons thinking it might help me become more graceful. Not so sure it worked... I can clearly remember my costumes/tutus although they are long gone. The first year I was an Apple Blossom, the tutu was pink satin or something similar, (perhaps peau de soie?) and there were small white flowers attached diagonally across the bodice, the tulle was pink as well. The next year I was an Autumn Leaf, the tutu was a soft green and the tulle "skirt" was layers of red, yellow and green. Very "leafish". haha. I think the bodice had leaves across it , I can recollect sparkles on those leaves... I thought I was a star! Amazing what we remember, eh?

  12. I adore this post and the link to the older one, Vee. How great to still have the costume. Such sweet photos too. I never took tap/dance lessons but I had to buy tap shoes in order to play the foot pedals on the organ when I was majoring in music in college.

  13. I didn't know you once danced?! So did I but I started in ballet (had zero talent there) and moved on to Jazz which was a more freer expression. I wasn't disciplined enough to keep up ballet. Now I'm just fat, lazy and sassy. *giggle* As for blogging, you see what I did: give up. It got to be more of a job then a joy. I admire folks who can keep at it because I do enjoy all the posts. BTW, this one is not lame. No body can be poetic or witty or verbose all the time.
Hope that came out right ... (meant in kindness and sympathy, you know) ~:))))

  14. Oh how cute! I still have part of my pom pom girl outfit- the red shoes! They actually look like some I have seen in the shoe stores, so maybe I should drag them out and wear them. NOT! Have a great day.

  15. You, my friend, or your posts, are not lame. I look forward to them. Blessings

  16. Those were the days weren't they? I only did one year in dance and switched to piano, maybe I wasn't coordinated enough. :-) I normally only do 2 posts a week but occasionally will squeeze in a third.

  17. I can usually only manage one a week.
Old dresses always had lots of material always fun to wear but could be prickly.

  18. I believe the perfect posting schedule is...whenever you feel like it / have time. I can't let the world make the rules for me. I've been busy, lazy, distracted, and totally lacking in material. Time to regroup. ;)

  19. So nice that you have some things from when you were young. My mom threw all my stuff out. : (
I like posting in the evening after supper. It is easy for me to post every day I think because I've always kept a journal and it has just evolved to my blog.

  20. Vee, you were a cutie pie in your costume! Hope you enjoy looking at it in your sewing room. I always enjoy your blog---it's never lame! ♥

  21. Far from "lame"...this post is adorable!! What fun it was to see your dance costume, and also to hop back to the old post and see you in your dance troupe! Yes, adorable!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, you are still a young chick if that costume is circa 60's! What a cute costume, love the black and white checks.
It's going to start getting busy at my house now that the weather seems to be better...and we have no excuse any longer...so that means only a couple of posts a week unless I have a burst of energy. Right. I don't know how some that post every.single.day do it! I feel bad that I don't comment on all their posts, but I'd never get out of this chair if I did.

  23. That's very neat. Do you still remember some of your dance steps? I just post whenever I feel moved....or have photos to share. Enjoy your evening my friend! Sweet hugs, Diane

  24. I went back and looked and you were just darling in your dance costuming. So cute!!!!!
I think you should make a little something like that one day to greet the hubby when he comes in the door. Do you suppose he would fall over in a dead faint? lol
I post pretty much daily and it is USUALLY kind of "lame".....lol That's okay- I amuse myself anyway. xo Diana

  25. If by lame, you mean short, well, ok, but the content was adorable! I went and looked back at the dance costume, so cute! I enjoy the random peeks into your life! ;)

  26. How neat is that, any photos of you in it? I know what you mean sometimes I hardly post and sometimes I post something everyday. I've been just going with the flow :)

  28. A little late getting around today but better late then never, lol. This post is ADORABLE! I love it. How cute you looked. I aim for 3 posts a week but it was only 2 this week. Most of my are the same old thing just a different project. lol I do need some new material. Enjoy your week-end Vee!

  29. I think Blogger ate my comment!?! I thinkit is amazing your dance costume is in such good condition! I blog about once or twice a week. It gives me the time I need to answer comments, visit blogs I enjoy and prepare my next post.

  30. I love this! Old pictures and costumes are right up my alley and not lame at all! Such a sweet costume and how neat that you still have it. Truly a treasure. =)

  31. That's a darling costume and your picture (at the link) is even more darling. This post is most enjoyable ~ not lame. Please share more of what you find in those boxes. I think it's lovely that you have kept the dance costume.

  32. Not lame at all! I mostly post daily, but not always and I don't feel bad if I post daily or far less often. These things come and go don't they. I figure that if people want to read that is fantastic and I am very grateful, and if they can't or don't want to, that is fine too! Blogging is definitely not anything to be worried about! xx

  33. What a sweet costume (loved the photos via the link also!)! It's such fun reflecting on days gone by. The days may be gone, but the memories become alive again when things are pulled out of the treasure chest of our lives! As for blogging...I am just now getting started again after hitting the pause button for a few years. I used to blog as Wildflower Cabin. It was good to read everyone's thoughts on how often they blog...I'm trying to get refreshed. Would love to have you stop by! Blessings!

  34. Not a lame post at all--it triggered a warm memory of my own tap dance/ballet/gymnastics lessons of yore. I remember a pink chiffon paint smock, a black felt beret, and a sequin embellished artist's palette--we danced around the stage striking artistic poses! Thank you for the smile this memory gave.

  35. How wonderful you still have those sweet costumes!!

  36. Vee, for only posting a couple of times a week, you are doing wonderfully. I post was really, REALLY lame..
Like you, I cannot do it every day. Just getting back to the ones that have given me their time and left a sweet comment..like you did, is about all I can do. I am finding it difficult to keep up anymore. I am in this chair way too much and it's having and adverse effect on me.. YOu are doing wonderfully! No schedule for me.
    Have a great weekend.

  37. You were dancing in 1960?..:) That costume is so cute! I wish I still had some of my clothing from the 1950's. Poodle skirts, Peekaboo petticoats....I wasn't wise enough to save anything. It must have been so neat taking them out and putting them out so you can see them. I love it. Nope..not a lame post at all!!!

  38. This was so not lame, Vee! Visiting you is always a delight :) Have a beautiful evening. Hugs!

  39. Not lame at all! How wonderful to find these memories. I found my daughter's first tap shoes and ballet shoes last week and the memories were very happily re-lived again. Have a wonderful week x

  40. ahhh.....a dancer....me, too...tap but no ballet.
I still have only 1 of my girl's tap shoes....
I fly by the seat of my pants on posting..never regular like a lot...just when i feel the urge.

  41. Lame you are NOT!
My blogging schedule is whenever I feel like it! I have tried and tried to have a regular written down type of regular schedule..nope, doesn't work for me....it's just whenever..
By the way, the little costumes are so cute...reminds me of an old prom dress hidden in the dark front closet...maybe a blog post??
Hope you are having some warmer weather...
    Love, Mona

  42. Oh what fun - lame NOT! I'm so behind in catching up with reading but this made me smile and wonder what old 60's "costumes" I might have stored away. Probably just an old gym uniform with my name embroidered on the back - remember those?? At least yours are adorable. I'll just bet you can still tap dance around the house?
