A Haven for Vee

Easter Greetings!

Good morning! One last post for the week, hence the Easter greetings. When my Easter cactus was loaded with buds, I was thrilled. Now I am down to just one beautiful blossom.

Lots of pictures...not a lot of commentary, if I can help it. ☺

It'll be a snow-covered Easter this year.

I've been having fun trying to create some tea/mug coasters following *Stephanie's excellent tutorial.* John is not always thrilled with the doily situation around here. Prior to his new coaster, he dealt with a little lace coaster. (Please don't pin from here; hers are so adorable!)

This morning was a two-pots-of-coffee morning as I had a chore I needed help with. Coffee is good currency at this house.

Yes, with everything else that must be done, I decided that I could not deal with the ratty hassock one more second. Now we have one that looks almost new. This was a Lynette Jennings tutorial from years ago. John does good work.

Yesterday, I cut out these bunnies to make a banner I first saw at *Hymns and Verses.* Mine is a diminutive version of Doreen's.

~cropped~

I copied and wrote "Hippity Hoppity Easter's On Its Way." One could add her own message, though. There's a download if you have a working printer. (Mine's out of ink.)

Do you suppose that this one last blossom could last until Easter? ☺

Have a blessed one, my friend.

  2. Sweet post, Vee...It's funny that you call your cactus an Easter cactus...and it blooms then. I have a few of these and around here and everyone calls them Christmas cactus, even tho they bloom closer to Thanksgiving...it looks like exact same plant. Ironically, after I watered one of them that had been neglected for a while, it started blooming and is now full of little pink buds! It's amazing what a little water can do! I have never had them bloom at this time of the year before...go figure! You did a lovely job on your little tea/coffee coasters...and I will be so excited to mine from Stephanie (I was so excited to have been the winner) and your newly covered foot stool is gorgeous...good job, John! (and the part you played too, Vee :) Last but not least, the little bunnies are simply adorable! May you and yours have a most blessed Resurrection Sunday!!

    1. There are very specific differences between Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving cacti. Counterintuitively, the Easter cactus has rounded edges on its leaves whereas the other two have jagged edges. It has been my experience that any of them can bloom any old time they want. =D

    2. And, yes, they usually respond by blooming after a time of neglect. It's as if they are grateful.

    3. Thank you for the lesson in horticulture! I did not know that...I think I may have some of each...lol! And yes, water is a GOOD thing :)

  4. Vee, I love Lynnette Jennings! I used to watch her television show every day and I learned so much about decorating and design from her! You and John did a great job on that hassock!

Those bunnies are adorable! You've been busy doing great things at your Haven. The tea coasters are wonderful too. I must check those out and make time to make a few. I think they would work better around here than my crocheted ones!

    Blessed Easter to you all!

Such a cute banner! Great job on the ottoman, it's beautiful! I have a really cute, "mug rug", that looks like a quilt block. I love to use it, and wish I was talented enough to make my own. I will check out your friends directions, they are adorable!

  28. Beautiful fabric (and workmanship!) on that hassock. I just whipped up a couple of spring banners myself but am not posting pics as they are for a gift. I do plan to make one for myself, probably after Easter. I'll be busy all day tomorrow baking for our breakfast at church, but it will be fun.
