A Haven for Vee

Monday in the Yard

This collage is so pedestrian that it needed graphics. Those yellow butterflies are a tribute to the one who followed me all around my yard yesterday as I puttered in the cool sunshine. He was the friendliest little dude.
Yesterday, as the youngest grand finished up his amazing game...here he is running to home (2.) as his teammate (1.)...a gal with a mighty swing...runs to first. (Loved this photo since it tells the entire story.) So that sentence took off for the hills; what I was trying to say was that, while the youngest grand was completing his game, the oldest grand and I sat out on the deck in the shade munching on fudgesicles.  When I wanted to putter, Sam either moved the wheelbarrow about or played with the iPad...baseball, of course.

I had just finished washing the fence plate rail dishes so was happily placing them back. I don't think Sam's game was going as well as his brother Jake's.

Over and out...I have basement cleaning on the agenda today. Sam said, "Nonni, I don't want to be rude, but your house smells like cat *oop."  I need to have that child here more often. He has a nose for news. Fioré has not been happy since the squirrel was tearing around down there. If I can't get her back to her box, I'm afraid it's the end of the trail. I will not have a dirty cat forever. Any suggestions for getting a cat straightened around? Okay, now this post has really taken a turn for the worse.

Linking to *Judith at Monday Mosaic,* but not participating. I have work to do!

  1. Since I don't have a cat, I will refrain, lol. I have been loving your new headers for your blog, btw. (very charming). Gotta' love your grandson and his comment. Blessings

  2. What a collage of subjects here this morning! :-) Enjoyed your beautiful garden (and fence) photos and the graphics you added. Summer is so glorious, isn't it! And also like the photo of your young baseball player. I remember being nuts about baseball when I was young, watching one game on TV while listening to another on the radio, at the same time.

Not sure what to do about Miss Kitty. Is there a bathroom nearby, where you could put her box and keep her in there with it for a while? That's what I do when introducing a new cat to our house. Seems to work for me, but it's only a few days and then you have to hope it will 'take.' Poor kitty. Sounds traumatized by the pesky squirrel!

  3. Your yard is looking mighty fine and the collage/mosaic is very cool, Vee. We don't do pets at this old house so I have no suggestions for you. Having a cleaning business for a few years where I had to clean up messes from other people's pets cured me of the desire or need to have my own to clean up after. Your grands are a hoot. Great weather for that baseball game!

  4. First, the kitty. Please take her to the vet. She could have a kidney infection. Was the litter box in the basement? You might have to move it upstairs. Also, your vet might have some excellent suggestions.

I love the collage and the butterflies. I was creating and posting our yard and then hopped over here to find your collage. You've added beautiful butterfly graphics, though, and that really looks nice. Which photo editing program did you use when adding them?

Your grandsons are getting so big. They are both "all boy". They're so into sports ~ both hot and cold weather sports. Isn't it amazing that kids can make everything electronic look so easy? We often wonder what the world will be like when our grandchildren have children. I'll bet you and John think about that, too.

  5. So many pretty nooks and crannies around your yard!!

Oh, poor Fioré! She must have had an emotional breakdown after the squirrel incident! Is it possible to move the litter box to another place (not associated with the squirrel) until she gets back into a routine?

Good to know that Sam will keep an eye (or a nose?) on things for you! :)

  6. Hi Vee, Your yard pictures looks so sweet. I love the plates on the fence rail...clever. I let my kids know if their homes start to smell to much like animals... You may have to get two litter boxes...your cat maybe marking his territory because of the squirrel. I miss my grandson playing ball.. All my grandkids played some kind of sports at one time or another...but Jake played it all. He was enjoyable to watch. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. Your flowers are beautiful! I no longer have the sense of smell due to terrible allergy problems. Having a truthful grandchild would be wonderful. I've been afraid with all this rain that my house smelled like a wet dog. Could you send him over to sniff out my house?

  8. Your yard nooks and crannies are so appealing to my eyes. Love the expression nose for news. Leave it to the fresh honesty of a child. Do I miss the days of my kids playing baseball! Maybe someday the grandson will.

  9. There is an adage about herding cats for a reason. 😉 I would also try moving the kitty litter box. They usually don't like that but in this case it might work.

  10. I love the raised bed with the star hanging above it. Raised beds are the bomb aren't they? The only suggestion I have for the cat is if you have a small area that you can put the cat and the cat box so she only has one choice for her personal business you might be able to get her back to good habits. Once she has spent a few days being good, you can open the door and / or move the cat box to the regular spot. I loved my cats (poor dear departed things!) but I always said I would not tolerate having my house smell like a litter box. There is a limit is there not? I sure hope you can get Fiore back on on track. It's a terrible choice to have to make, between a sweet smelling home and your pet! Kudos to you for cleaning the basement. I chip away at mine but it is not my favorite place to be.

  11. I love baseball/softball and don't have any grands playing the game. Sigh. And our kids have all moved on as well. And we no longer sponsor a local team. I miss watching call games!

As for cats...my only experience is with barn cats. :) Hence...no advice!

    Lovely and artsy garden collage!

  12. Enjoyed seeing your pretty yard. I have two cats, but no problem with smell yet. I dont know what you need to do about that....be careful working in the basement.

  13. Love the pics of your beautiful yard. The rain stopped early last week. Now it is hot & humid. Oh, the ups & downs of Okieland weather.

  15. Vee, your columbines are lovely--especially the pink one. Mine are all going to seed now. I'm no help in the kitty department. I love the honesty of children and am thankful when one points out something that needs attention. ♥

  16. Your yard is very pretty! I like your companions both the butterfly and the boy!

Our basement smells like dog, not dog *oop, just dog. I don't like it but am not prepared to clean the carpet where she slept during the winter. We've tried borax, etc.

    1. Me, too. Borax and anything that isn't as strong-smelling as bleach, which really causes her to freak, I am using a bio~clean product as well. Accckkk!

  17. Your mosaic is very pretty even without the butterflies. They are cute though. I haven't seen many around here, just the odd white cabbage moth that were abundant a couple weeks ago. Yay for a good ball game. Sorry, I can't help with the cat problem. I hope it gets resolved before Fiore has to move on!!

  18. Well, just leave it to a kid to tell it like it is...or isn't. Far be it from me to say whether your house smells like --- what he said...lol! The pictures/mosaic of your yard is so pretty...and I wish I would just see a butterfly, let alone a friendly one! Ah yes...baseball days...spent many of them with my two when they were just boys :)

  19. Your garden is coming along beautifully Vee! As far as the kitty situation,I am not much help, I had the same situation some years ago, just couldn't get the kitty to use her box again, needless to say Kitty found another home, a good one at that, all were happy, I am reminded of Art Linkletter's kid's show! Good luck!
    Hugs,

  20. I can see why you're loving the home you have, Vee!
The flowers are looking so pretty.
Congrats to the younger g'son on his game.
And honestly, I'd be thankful for a g'son that will tell me the truth!
Sometimes my home gets stinky and I never notice until I'm out of
it for a while and then come back. And I don't even have a cat!

  21. Your yard looks perfectly manicured, lovely photos. Yes, our grands can be brutally honest can't they. I don't know what to tell you about the cat. You have "people" on here though, I'm sure you'll get lots of advice. ~ Abby

  22. The yard is looking very pretty. It's nice to see green isn't it! We have doggie smells around our place. It's a continual battle but I use Fabreze and it seems to help. ~:)

  23. Monday in the yard looks just lovely. : )
Sorry can't help with the cat problem.

  24. Hi Vee, Always lovely to see your yard. Occasionally my cats will miss the litter box and spray the floor....I have good luck with a vinegar/rubbing alcohol mix I also have luck using a product from WalMart called OdoBan - very clean scent that does not linger. Little Ditto passed away today. Our hearts are broken but he is romping and playing with Harriet now.

  25. Your yard is looking very pretty. Love the addition of the butterflies to your mosaic. Also love the thought of a butterfly following you around the yard.
I know nothing about cats, but the grand with the nose for news has me chuckling :D.

  26. Your yard looks very nice with the blooms hanging and growing in the garden. Nice addition of the yellow butterflies on the collage too, thanks for linking over to MM.
Out of the mouths of babes huh? Sounds like potty training again for the cat as the stress of the squirrel has messed up the proper routine. Do cats respond to treats for doing their business in the right place? Topaz was a quick learner for this one and can do #1 and #2 on command - such a little charmer my boy can be. ;-)

  27. It looks so nice around your place. 'Been to Bunco tonight, tired and ready for bed....talk later.

  28. Your yard is lovely! I forgot how long it takes to get gardens where you want them--I'm still working on them. And, in a few weeks, we're having a treehouse built for the grands; I'll be sure to post the process, XOXO

  31. I love your pretty mosaic. Your yard is so green and full of color, very enjoyable I am sure. =) It looks like you are having fun with those grand babies. They are precious. I would love to offer advice on the cat issues, but after coming up with no solution for our own, I booted them out the door to become yard cats.

I hope that you are well.

  32. You have so many pretty flowers and hanging baskets, Vee. Our weather has been so bad this spring that not much is growing here at all. My grandsons opted to go to daily soccer camp this summer instead of playing baseball, but I have dear memories of all the years I spent in the Little League stands cheering on the teams.

My only idea for Fiore's problem is to make sure her littler box is disinfected so there is no squirrel smell and maybe try to lure her into the box by leaving some cat treats in it? Often as soon as they step in they will scratch and go. You may have to put the box upstairs in a corner for a little while and then slowly place it closer to the basement steps and day by day move it down. A lot of work, but for a long time friend it will be worth it!

  33. No cat advice, but I do love your mosaic, and the butterflies just make it even nicer! xx

  34. Lovely collage and butterflies are my favorite! Black ones in particular have very special meaning to me. I agree a trip to the vet for your cat... could definitely be an infection. The least fun will be trying to get him to take the medicine... that's always an adventure to catch and administer it, lol. At least in my house it is. :-)
    Have a lovely evening!

    Blessings

  35. Your collage is just so pretty Vee! I love your grandson's honesty and I'm sorry that I don't have any advice about Fiore - like Judy, we just have barn cats too. So sweet of you to enjoy the baseball game and get such a special picture! You are a wonderful Nonni!

  36. it looks like spring is bursting out all over your yard. I remember the days of watching ball games and cheering from the sidelines. You must be proud of both grandsons!
