Mosaic Monday Offerings

~collage made with Fotor~
Another paint night to crow about...that's my daughter in the lower right corner with five of her friends. She talked them into going to a Paint Nite event.  From the smiles, I think that they had fun.

***

We're having a fun discussion about orange and red around here.

That's a common ditch lily on the left that I call orange and a Bolero bud on the right. The Bolero may be just another shade of orange, especially if one compares it to red as below.

Boleros beside pansies beside wasp house, plates,  zucchini, and below the U.S. flag. Okay, it may be another shade of red. Whatever!

Another peek at John's project. I'm starting to get excited now that it's on the homestretch. Hope that it may be finished by the 4th of July.

It's a patriotic week in North America with Canada celebrating Canada Day on Wednesday and the United States celebrating the 4th of July on Saturday. Enjoy the celebrations!

Over and out for the week. Today, I am linking to *Judith's Mosaic Monday* and I hope to visit a number of participants before day's end.

A blessed week to you!

  3. Good Morning, Vee. Paint nite looks fun. Your daughter is lovely. I remember a group of my friends would gather for paint pottery nights during college years. I love your Boleros. I can't wait to see John's finished project. I hope you two enjoy your day.

  5. Good morning! I have been hearing more and more about those paint nights....they sound so fun! Your daughter is so pretty! As for your "red" flowers, they are positively gorgeous but I wouldn't call any of them red, lol. To me the one of the left is orange [or in the orange family] and the one on the right and below is also a shade of orange....just more of a redish orange. Like maybe a deep coral.....because there is an orange coral, a pink coral, and a red coral, lol. What I really love is our God that made soo many wonderful and varying degrees of colors we can't even really name them all. Have a good week Vee!

  8. What a beautiful and interesting blog! Lovely photos!
I would call the colours of those lilies orange and red, but I have needed to deal with people who would call them yellow and orange. :D
Thank you for sharing and have a blessed new week!

  11. There are more US flags flying in our neighborhood than I've ever seen before.
Fun mosaic! And how about the color Peach?

  12. The painting together looks like so much Vee. Of course anytime we get together with friends it's fun. Can't wait to see John's finished product! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  13. Still you got to love that old common ditch lily. Next to the lily I love Iris, just wish they bloomed all summer.

  15. Fun collage of Paint Night with your beautiful daughter. Happy smiles all around are a very good sign. About the lilies, I would call one orange and the other orange-red. It's interesting how we all see color differently, isn't it? I read recently that men have less cones in their eyes than women and thus women can see more color variation than men. Which might explain why my husband couldn't figure out why I wouldn't let him wear his new black/grey/white print shirt with brown pants this morning.

    1. This organization meets in a restaurant so food and drink is readily avaliable. A lot of the gals ate their supper while trying to paint. It would have been too much for me to do at the same time. On the other hand, I got so thirsty that I almost drank my paint water. Ha!

    2. the night I went...I was not there painting this water scene...

  17. It would be fun to have events like the Paint Night here. That's the problem with living in a farming community, no group activities offered anywhere.
Pretty oranges and reds. Ours are Honeysuckles, Canna Lilies, Gladiolus and such. All can grow wild.
I'm anxious to see the project completed too. Whatever it is will be great, I'm sure. My husband is like that too, can take old junk and make it usable and quaint.
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  18. The paint nights look like fun, especially if you can attend with a few friends. We have the orange ditch lilies everywhere in our rural community and beside your boleros, the boleros do look red - maybe a dark orangey red?
Has John told you what his project is or will it be a surprise for you?
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday Vee.

  19. I would say that your lovely daughter and her friends had a very successful paint night. What a great way to learn and have fun, too. I'm getting excited to see John's project revealed. You're keeping us in suspense! I was never a fan of Asian lilies until seeing your pictures of the Bolero lilies the past few years and our neighbor planing a different variety of Asian lilies. I'm going to have some in my flower bed next year!

  20. Lovely mosiac of the girls paintings. I've seen these paint nights all over the country---fun.

  22. Looks like a fun time all around at paint night!

Lovely lilies! I'm just thinking about the oranges and reds in your garden...and realizing that I have only a wee touch of red in my planters and no orange whatsoever. Lots of lime, blues, purples and pinks and yellows though. And no lilies!

Happy 4th of July to you and yours! I'm looking forward to the unveiling of John's project.

  23. Hi Vee, my brain is slowly coming back after a non-stop hard working time for our son's wedding festivities in over 100 degree weather. I love the color in your yard and I'm intrigued by John's new project. I have my 4th of July bins down and I think I'll put my company on the job to decorate for me...

  24. I call what you call ditch lilies, Tiger Lilies. I'm not sure why, but I always have. Here in MA that usually bloom around the 4th of July and they are one of my favorite flowers. Blooming so pretty and requiring so little care.

    1. We have both the ditch lily ( not a ditch lily at my house because I feature them front and center in the garden but the term is what most refer to them as) and the tiger lily. The tiger lily is larger and has stripes like a tiger. Mine are really a very simple orange daylily. Thanks for stopping by!

  26. Oh how fun to go to a Paint nite. A friend of mine goes to paint in town one night a week, and she says it's awesome! I can't wait to see John's project when it's done.

  27. I've heard about Paint Nite but I've yet to attend one! I enjoyed seeing the vibrant oranges and red in your mosaics and look forward to the big reveal for John's project.

  28. A very fun subject for your mosaic today.
I wore a new pair of pants the other day which I thought were orange. Brett thought they were red. Thinking of your recent post on the boleros, I settled on "tomato red".
Oh that project of John's is looking more intriguing. Can't wait for the unveiling.

  32. I have a few friends in my women's club who did two paint night events and had a riot I am told. What a neat special memory for those happy gals!

Your lilies look so heavy and nice, Vee- regardless of what color they are, right? : - )

  33. Loving your orange/red lilies! Looking forward to seeing John's finished project.

  34. Shades of red (or orange) aren't all easy to identify, I agree. Moreover, I find red a rather difficult colour in photography. I think you did well with these though. To me the one to the left is orange and the one to the right is red. :)

  35. I've always wanted to go to one of those paint nights. It looks like fun! I'm wondering what John's project is...hmmmm? I'm looking forward to seeing it, Vee.

  36. Hello,Vee.
It is first time for me to hear of the word" paint night". May be,as I am a beginner English learner.
Your daughter is beautiful! I enjoyed your orange color flowers in your garden. I like your blog title" a Haven for Vee.
    Happy days、 distant from Japan!!(*^_^*)!

  37. I am so amazed at how well your flowers flourish in your area, they looks so alive, on the other hand here in the South, especially with the exceptionally hot temps., ours are seem to hanging on for survival. I am so thankful for some much needed rain last evening, though we irrigate, there is nothing like rainwater!
So when is the big reveal for John's project, are you helping?

I am envious of those who can draw/paint, I am also envious of those who can make unusual and beautiful collages! Grin~
BTW I absolutely love your profile photo, bet you didn't think I noticed. You seem to be getting younger by the day, you must share your secret!
Wishing you a most blessed and happy 4th of July celebration!
I think of you so often!
    Hugs,
    Sue

  38. OH! I almost forgot, the ditch lily I can so relate to,years ago, Dh stopped by the roadside and brought a few home, there are now oodles and noodles of them in my beds, they are so invasive! last year I even dug up some and returned them to the roadside. So much for taking something that doesn't belong to you. lol

  39. We have those beautiful orange day lilies everywhere here! I think your Bolero's are a great mix of red and orange. Whatever the color, they're great!

I need to get my new flag hung today.

  41. Hi Vee!

Your lilies are outstanding! I love that you called the ones on the left "ditch" lilies. That's what my mom and grandma always called them. My grandmas had a tall fence that butted up against a railroad track that was covered with lilacs. It was a huge wall of lilacs when they were blooming. On the other side was a ditch between the fence and the rr tracks. It was filled with "ditch" lilies. She made everything beautiful, my grandma did. I didn't know they were tiger lilies until adulthood. Thanks for the great flashback of great memories.

Blessings for a safe holiday, Edie Marie

PS your photography is so fabulous Vee!

  42. Love your photos Vee, whether they are red or orange. Who cares? They are beautiful! Of course there are many shades of red- and orangey-red is one of them! Your lilies are doing well with all this rain we're having.

  45. Oooo...by your header, it appears that John finished the project? It looks great!!

I always thought that I had a good sense of color, but Bekah makes me doubt myself. Her eye is very discerning. Orange. Red. I'll take your word for it! :)

Laurel must have found her niche! She seems to be very enthused about her painting!

  46. It's Saturday July 4th and somehow I missed this post totally. I love the Bolero lilies and believe that might be what I have that Mark and Jenn gave me for Mother's Day last year. They bloomed yesterday and look the same as yours. I think you will love what John is making for you. I know I would and can't wait to see it completed. I like your header collage - beautiful! Happy 4th of July to you and John. I hope you have a fun day. Blessings.
