Hodge Podging Today

Joyce from This Side of the Pond asks the questions and the participants provide the answers.

1. Share one thing that really makes your day.

Waking up? ☺ My first cup of coffee (usually my only cup of coffee) and morning time with John. Hearing from the kids or the grands is always great, too. Actually, hearing from most anybody is a super day.
***
2. Lots of these kinds of lists out there, but one found here says the fifteen most colorful places on earth are:

Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy~Burano, Italy~Havana, Cuba~Rio de Janiero, Brazil~Chefchaouen, Morocco~Balat, Istanbul, Turkey~Menton, France~Jodhpur, India~La Baca, Buenos Aires, Argentina~Guanajuato, Mexico~Capetown, South Africa~Valparaiso, Chile~Wroclaw, Poland~San Francisco, California~and Pelourhino, Salvador, Brazil.

~Trip Advisor~

Of those listed which would you most like to see up close and in person? Of all the places you've seen or traveled in your own life, what would you say was one of the most colorful?

Quiet and calm places would be my preference...a charming village or a cottage by the lake would be top shelf. Guess that eliminates these places, which I am sure have a charm all their own.

As something of a concrete thinker, I'm going to say that the most colorful place I have ever visited was the Grand Canyon.
***
3."Everything you want is on the other side of fear." Jack Canfield  In general, would you agree or disagree with that statement? Why?

Somewhat. Or...everything you want is on the other side of funds. ☺ To be very serious, I truly believe that everything one wants/needs is on the other side of faith.
***
4. Imagine you're stranded on a desert island and dessert appears...what do you hope it is? Do you ever struggle to remember which spelling is desert and which is dessert?

5. What song almost always makes you cry?

The old hymns of the church are the ones that resonate with me.  There is a Fountain was the most recent one to make my eyes mist, though there are many that have that effect.
***
6. January is National Soup Month.  Everything from soup to nutsin the soupthick as pea soupsouped up...which saying most recently applies to your life in some way? Explain.

Everything from soup to nuts seems best. I have lived in four different states: Virginia, Maine, Oklahoma, and Arizona. I have taught every grade level from preschool to college with the exception of kindergarten. I have been married to two very different men (not at the same time ☺). I have lived in a large home and a small home...

7. Write a two word note to your younger self. What does it say?

Pray First
***
8. Insert your own random thought here.

Mine is a common one as old as time: Where do the years go? My eldest grandson will be 10 this week. It feels like just yesterday that Sam arrived! It sure was a happy day!

This was the first picture of Sam to appear on the blog way back in July of 2007. He was a year and a half old. The photo on the right was taken last summer. I removed Jakob (his hand is on his brother's shoulder) for this side by side comparison collage, but Jakob's birthday is coming right up so I will be pairing him with a photo of his younger self next week.

  2. Hey Vee, I'm so glad you're at the Hodgepodge! Sweet pics of Sam. Grandkids are the best. Say, if you want someplace quiet and peaceful, come to NW Wisconsin. It's so cold the cows aren't even mooing. And it's definitely quiet. Have a great Wednesday.

  3. Love your answers. I haven't had a rootbeet float in for a long time. I may have to get one one of these days. I hope you have a great day.

  9. Interesting post and answers Vee. Sam is so cute and it is scary how fast they grow and mature. Are you getting snowed upon today? It's a blizzard here and most things are closed as the driving is treacherous.

  10. I love your random thought!! I never stop asking that same question. Happy birthday to Sam!! And happy ten-years-of-being-a-grandmother to you!!

Your answer to #3 is truth.

And coffee makes my day too. It doesn't take much to make some of us happy, does it? :)

  11. Good morning! Well we both decided to jump on the Hodgepodge this morning...funny huh? Your answer to number 3 is perfect however! I love it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your sweet Sam. Such a handsome boy. Enjoy your day!

  13. Awe...this is fun.
1: One thing that makes my day is when that first cup of coffee touches my lips! Ha! 2: Well for me the most colorful place so far is probably the mountains when the leaves are changing. 3: Most of us find ourselves walking in fear and usually when we least expect it. I keep reminding myself at times that God does not give me a spirit of fear. I teach other women to STEP out of their comfort zones and yet I catch myself holding back at times because if that issue. 4: Ooh, If I am stranded on a desert Island I want some Cheesecake! 5: There are several songs I can cry too for different reasons but one that I will cry to every single time is "Just as I am". 6: That one is easy right now! I am trying to be SOUPER Woman. Juggling several things at one time and on a time table at that! 7: A note to younger self? Take better care of your health! 8: Random thoughts: It seems to take me all day now to do what I used to could do in several hours! GRR!!!! Thanks for a fun post! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  14. I enjoyed your answers, Vee. I think I agree with you about that time thing and where it went. It makes me so old when I realize that my oldest grand will be graduating from high school next year! Of course, I was a VERY young when I first became a grandma! :):):) Your little guy sure is a doll baby.

  15. I always seem to leave a word out when I'm commenting....it makes me FEEL old....maybe I am "old" and that's why I leave out words...lol!!

  16. Enjoyed the hodgepodge post, Vee! Some of those lovely old hymns, including old familiar carols tend to bring the tears to my eyes too.

    Wishing you a lovely day...

  17. Certainly enjoyed this reading today. I have been off line a few days due to monitor not working and I think I like the hodgepodge idea. I may visit some more sites.

  18. If ever I get a chance to hear a song from my childhood and teen years in Latin, I would cry my eyes out. I say all the Mass songs in Latin and yes I miss the old ways in my church badly. Happy Birthday to Sam he is a fine looking lad.

  19. This hodge podge is fun. I may have to give it a go sometime.

I love your soup to nuts answer! You've had such an interesting life.

Happy birthday, Sam! Time flies too quickly. Kyle and Sam are the same age until August when Kyle will be 11! Only two years until teenager status! Crazy!

  21. Vee, I've enjoyed your post today as I learned new things about you. I feel the same way when I read Judy's Hodge Podge answers. Such a cute photo of Sam..both of them. Have a cozy afternoon. ♥

  22. Vee, thank you for visiting my blog today, but I'm not sure what you meant by my being your "official person according to Joyce," but whatever, I'm glad too. I also found that we have much in common, perhaps the two greatest things are our faith and our grandchildren. Happy Birthday to your handsome young grandsons.

  23. GREAT statement you made: "... everything one wants/needs is on the other side of faith."

Very clever of you to put a "thank you for visiting" photo at the end of a blog post. AND... you have a very handsome grandson!! Cute smile!

  24. Lovely to read a bit more about you! These question things are fun to do sometimes aren't they. xx

  25. Now that's quite a variety of states that you have lived in. Happy birthday to your 10 year old grand! Yikes! Time flies when boys are around. I like your two word note to your younger self. Mine might have to be shut up, although we weren't able to say that growing up!

  26. I applaud your spelling abilities, so rare these days! What a fun question and answer session! There is always so much to learn about you when you answer these things. Happy Birthday to Sam! I don't have and grandkids yet, but I have noticed how quickly my friends grands grow up and I am afraid the years will fly by at a ridiculous rate once I have some of my own. Totally worth it, I'm sure :)

  27. Sam hasn't changed much except for his height. He has the same cute smile. I've been to the Grand Canyon too and it is spectacular. Most photos just don't do it justice. Fun post. ~:)

  28. Our youngest granddaughter turns 7 this week. She's the one in the video today. She is adorable. Just think...in another 10 years Sam will be 20 and Abby will be 14. These years seem to go way too fast.

Enjoyed your responses to the questions. Thank you for sharing. I'm still trying to come up with the most colorful place I've seen. I'm thinking it's a place I love ~ Silver Dollar City in Branson. They have the most beautiful, colorful seasonal displays that live on in my memory. I really need to go to Branson again. I think I'll tell Keith that you've inspired me again!

  29. Seems the older we get the faster the years fly. I enjoyed your hodgepodge.

  30. So true about the years flying by. Makes me glad we have these blogs to remember all the moments by. Happy Birthday to Sam. What a cutie he is.
Enjoyed reading your answers to the Hodge Podge. I somehow pictured you always living in Maine. Oklahoma, really? :D.

  31. Hi Vee!

What a fun post! I have to agree with everyone else, the years sure do fly by! I think the Grand Canyon is possibly one of the most beautiful and colorful places I have every been too - I love that part of the world. Happy birthday to your cute, Sam!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  33. Vee, Love our Pray First! And a root beer float! Perfect stranded on a deserted island dessert!

  34. A fun hodgepodge Vee. Oh, wouldn't a rootbeer float taste wonderful on a desert island? As long as it was a hot desert and not a cold one! Pray first is something I'd tell my younger self, too. My goodness but those boys are growing quickly. I am certain that grandchildren grow much more quickly than children.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pray first is a good one, Vee, and of course, Faith is really all we need.
Loved learning a little more about you and seeing the pics of your grandson. Yes, those kids grow all too fast, don't they?
Happy prayerful day to you, my friend!

  36. I love this post...so fun and if it' a weekly or monthly party, I will try to join...if it was a one time thing, I'm sorry I missed it.

  37. I have been fortunate to have visited Vernazza, Italy, and San Francisco, and yes, they are very colorful places to see! I think the photos Judy, of My Front Porch, took of Peru would be my vote as #1 as the most colorful place. The Grand Canyon is magnificent, as is all of the SW!

Grandchildren do grow so quickly! I savor the time I get to spend with mine. They are life's rewards for living long ;)
