A Haven for Vee

Update

My Downton Abbey thought of the week...a howl of disbelief. Apparently, I did not get the memo that the Christmas Special would not be shown until March 6. I can tell you that seeing state championship basketball on MPBN did absolutely nothing for me. If I were not a sane person, I would have thrown something at the tv.
John, bless his heart, has been doing a lot of this tidying in the kitchen. I do wish he knew how to cook more than fried cornflakes. Our choices are so limited. I feel as if I have spent a week of nibbling on toast and slurping soup. John has eaten a lot of cornflakes, fried or otherwise. Things have improved, but have a ways to go. My jaw is so tired that I feel as if I should put it into a sling.

Thank you so much for all your sweet comments and sympathies...most of us have been in a dental predicament at one time or another. Those of you who haven't are surely blessed. ☺

Have a blessed extra day today! What are you going to do with it?

  2. I just went to your last post that I missed seeing. Gosh, I'm sorry you've had this pain and hope it eases up soon. I hate going to the dentist and I've had my share of tooth pain, too, so I know what you're talking about. My daughter has had good dental care, braces, you name it, but she still has tooth problems and just the other day a crown came out. The dentist told her that she would most likely have to have the tooth pulled if it happened again.
Do I see a new curtain along with your busy hubby in your window? Very pretty and I like the blue light out the window, too! Take care.

  3. Awww...sweet friend, can I borrow John (giggling---and quit giggling yourself, smiles). No extra day to whatever here, school and not that my brain is fried enough, lol.

Praying your jaw gets to feeling better...I sure do feel for you. Blessings

(and pff on no Downton--I and wondered about that last week when they said to join them on March 6 for the final)

  4. Goodness, I hope you feel better soon, this has gone on way too long! Praying for a healing touch. A Sunday without Downton was hard to take, but I guess we better get used to it :( I AM looking forward to the finale next week, and I will no doubt binge watch the whole thing starting from the beginning at some point soon. This week I am in the final preparations for a women's conference at church next weekend. I get to do some shopping, planning, baking and crafting for the event, all my favorite things :)

  5. Oh, Vee! Just trying to get a few 'catch up' visits in! What a mess you are in with your mouth (unlike the messes I usually get in with MY MOUTH). Hope it eases soon and gets taken care of. Oral pain is just miserable! Hope you have a great March! xo Diana

  6. I was disappointed too that the final episode of Downton Abbey wasn't shown. Oh well, I watched recordings. I hope that the antibiotics kick in and give you some relief on the dental pain. John is making a good effort, so three cheers for him! I'm heading off to bible study group this morning soon. Then I have a long list of tasks on my daily list. I will be wandering off sometime soon, so there is much to be done.

  7. Sounds miserable, Vee. Surely it can't go on much longer.
I'm wondering if they didn't save the showing of DA for next week due to Oscar's being shown at the same time. I guess it is stiff competition to some people. Not for me!
My day is going to be spent like John's was yesterday, doing touch ups and tidying the house.
    Take care-Kim

  8. Vee, I hope your dental appointment is soon. I'm sure John makes great fried cornflakes? Bless his heart...Grayden does poorly in the kitchen as well, but has many other talents as I know your John does. I'm praying for you, Vee. ♥

  9. I hate having to have dental issues taken care of...but it's worth it in the long run. Take care of yourself! Your John is a such a sweetheart...tell him I said that! heehee! Hugs, Diane

  10. Vee, I've been thinking of you the past few days and wondering how your tooth/mouth/jaw is. I really hope things get resolved very soon so you'll be feeling better. I'm off to the eye doctor this morning for my check up. I'm wondering if I should buy new frames as I'm due them this time around. I like the ones I have but I guess it depends on if my prescription has changed too. Picking new eye glasses is a difficult decision! Take care. Sending a big (((HUG))). Pam

  11. I watched the makings of Downton last night and found it interesting. I am looking forward to this Sunday, but I am going to be very sad to see it end. Sending you healing hugs!

  12. I'm so sorry Vee about your dental problems. I went through having to have a dental implant in the front after losing a crowned tooth from an accident years ago. If we lived closer, I would be making you soup. We didn't have any Downtown Abby here last night:-(

  13. Our PBS station announced it a few times, thankfully! The reason, or so I have heard, is they did not want the finale to compete with viewers of the Oscars. I did enjoy The Manners of Downton, about the world of the 20s in England. But only because I wasn't expecting the real thing hing!

  14. Gathering tax materials today, how fun! But better than having a dental emergency! I hope it is resolved soon! And satisfactorily. Could John make soft boiled or scrambled eggs? Just keep saying, "This too shall pass". And next Sunday - Downtown Abbey and the resolution of everything. Or so I hope! Be well!

  15. Hope you are feeling better soon and John's cooking skills improve quickly. Prayers for both of you.

  16. What a terrible let down that was! I heard it was put off a week due to the Oscars.

I was teasing Tim this week about his own lack of cooking skills. I told him without me he'd exist on cereal and eggs.

I hope you will be able to get that tooth taken care of this week! Praying for you!

  17. They must have thought that the Academy Awards would upstage the last episode...silly people. I have a lot of sympathy for anything dental and I am looking forward to you getting the relief you need. Do you like soft boiled eggs? I am trying to not get Dear's bug but my throat and voice are telling me I've succumbed in part. I'm hoping it's not as bad as his.

  18. You certainly have a bright, cheerful looking kitchen anyway!

  19. So sorry you are restricted to such a limited diet during this dental crisis. I hope your blog readers bring a measure of cheer your way as you endure this tough season.

As for what I'm doing today, I'm wading through email and hard-copy papers that have all accumulated on my desk over the weekend, and then finishing up my homework assignment for the Precept Bible study I attend at my church on Tuesday mornings.

  20. When is your dental appointment? I hope it's soon. I've been counting days and it seems that you'll be there in a few days. I know they aren't coming fast enough for you. ~ I'm sure K would be eating burgers or pizza every night. ~ What have you been eating?

  21. So sorry that you are still not up to par. Wish I could bring you some soup or maybe some pudding. Hope your antibiotics do the job so that your dentist can take care of the situation. My wisdom tooth extraction is Wednesday -- ugh. I just don't want to do it, but on the other hand I want it over with. Soon enough ... I have no idea what to expect from the rest of the week following the extraction.

  22. Hi Vee~

I'm so sorry that you are still under the weather . . . no fun at all!

I love a man who can clean, and kinda cook.. ;0) Fried cornflakes, they would be wonderful on scalloped potatoes!

I have been watching Downton on Amazon, so I'm really behind, but I love it! I will be sad when it's over.

Take care of yourself, you will be in my prayers.

    Hugs,
    Barb

  23. Oh Vee... I am so sorry to hear you are still in pain :( Maybe a sling would help {{smiles}} It would definitely make a fashion statement.

Your hubby sounds like such a sweetie and what a blessing to have him around helping.

Keeping you in my prayers, dear friend. Hugs!

  24. Oh my Vee, I'm sorry to hear that your tooth situation is still not the greatest. Thank goodness for John and his helpfulness. What a dear heart he is!
    P. S. The blue hour outside your kitchen window is so pretty!! Take care, and feel better soon.

  25. Ha. A day with granddaughter. Somehow I caught on about DA postponing a week. I didn't get the behind the scenes watched but want to. Hope you continue to improve.

    ReplyDelete
  26. We haven't watched anymore DA since the police stopped us rushing home to see it. Will have to watch it on reruns or Netflix.
I mostly read with this extra day.

  27. What a darling picture of John! You poor dear Vee - hope your tooth troubles are over soon! I've never heard of fried corn flakes :).

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am sorry to learn that you are still dealing with your tooth pain. I am sure it is all getting very old by now.
Fried corn flakes? Is there really such a thing?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh dear, this is lasting a long time. I hope you are seeing some improvement, Vee. Fried cornflakes - hmmm. They might be good fried in butter, with some sugar added, but I think they would still be very crunchy. And not very filling.

    ReplyDelete
  30. awww, this is indeed lasting a long while. I have such a fear of going to the dentist..the minute I walk in, my body starts contorting (is that right?) and by the time they put me in THE CHAIR, my back is in such deep spasms that I look like I'm doing a back bend. I need work done right this minute but until I start hurting, I'll put it off and off and off....
Hoping you feel much better really soon.
And, being the olden age that I am, and am so wise and know it all, I assume ya'll are teasing when you say FRIED CORNFLAKES...

    ReplyDelete
  31. I had the same HUGE disappointment when I settled in for MY hour last night. The Oscars?!?!? I don't care a jot about the Oscars but I certainly missed Downton.
BIG SYMPATHY for your dental woes. I've been there and it isn't fun, at all. Cornflakes, though. Surely there is something sweeter, smoother and better-tasting. I will think about this...........

    ReplyDelete
  32. Fried cornflakes? Now that's a new one. I think John and Elmer would get along just fine...both reaching for cornflakes when the cook is down and out. (Frying them sounds like a bit of work though!)

We were rather disappointed to discover there was no Downton Abbey on last night as well. Netflix to the rescue!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am missing my Downton Abbey also. As Judy about grateful for Kindle and Netflix.

  34. And wouldn't you know I will be out of town and will have to miss the Downton Marathon on PBS all day on Sunday. I will have no problem re-watching the whole season again...I just hate to see it go... OK, get a hold of yourself, Debby...sorry...I just had a "moment" :( I sure am sorry you are having a hard time with your dental issues. John will survive...I'm sure those fried corn flakes can't be that bad :D

  35. We had been out and got home just after 9 and turned on the television expecting to find the finale. Alas, it was not to be. Another week of waiting.
Hoping your mouth recovers soon. So sorry. I lost a small filling this week and so much call to set up an appt to get that restored.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hope your mouth heals quickly! I had gum surgery 2 weeks ago, so I know something about what you are going through!

  37. I spent the day shortening 3 pr. of jeans (post coming later) and cleaning closets. These are things I can do only once every four years, so it's a good thing it's Leap Year.

I did know about the Downton Abbey delay, but they did run the whole season, except for the last show, as a marathon on Sunday. On Monday I replayed several on Masterpiece online as I worked around the house. Why don't I ever get tired of those episodes? Although I will NOT rewatch Season 3 and the horrid shows of which we will not speak (or write), nor will I rewatch all the WWI fighting. I thought that season was also pretty dreary, except for the last episode. BUT, Season Six has exceeded all my expectations and I think Julian Fellowes is brilliant. Okay, cookie timer is beeping.

  41. I spent the extra day of February watching our granddaughter and car pooling oldest grandson home form school, so it was a normal day for me but I love it. I don't know if you remember the blogger "Smiling Sally"? She began blogging around the same time we did. She had a very popular "Blue Monday" meme? She passed away yesterday from heart failure. She was always so cheerful and fun, and love dher faith and family. Another lesson to enjoy each and every day!

    1. Oh no! I do remember Sally. Seems as if there is one loss after the next in Blogdom these days, which reminds me that even Blogdom is not Heaven yet. Thank you for letting me know.

  42. Dear Vee, I hope you've graduated from tomato soup by now! I'm sure you're looking forward to getting your tooth fixed and eating real food again. My husband came into the marriage with no kitchen skills whatsover. At least he knows how to grill fish and meat now :)

  43. Good late evening dear friend, so sorry you have been under the weather, sending thoughts, prayers and much love! Had my episode with toothache last year, had to have oral surgery, not fun at all!
You and I both are so blessed with wonderful husbands for sure, and we both know it works both ways!~Wink~
I'll be back to check on you!
    Love you,
    Sue

  44. I'm so sorry you have been under the weather- and I can relate to that dental pain. I'm not allergic to aleeve and advil and both were lifesavers the few times I have needed them. But, they are so dangerous for our bellies...so you are probably blessed to be allergic. I hope you feel better soon. Your husband is so sweet to help.
