Changes in the Neighborhood

Probably you have noticed that I like my kitchen window just a titch. I like to decorate the sill and look out upon my little view. You may remember a view something like this—bushes that flower in spring and a cute, shabby, little shed. The home you see there is way across the lower street from which mine turns.

Oh I did love that view! Charming, New Englandy, dear.

This is how it looks today.

The best thing about it is that a local pastor has moved his parents to this new home.  I know that it will look better one day when it is completed and there is more landscaping added. (Note the shabby little shed is still there. Wonder if they'll take it down.) So while I do not like the new view nearly as well as the former one, I do like the reason for the change.

  1. I guess your eyes will adjust, but landscape change is hard. It reminds me of losing a tree or two and how that changes a view. But wonderful for the pastor's parents. What is it about kitchen windows, especially above the sink, that we love so much? Actually I think I know!

  2. I love the look....change can be good, in small doses, wink and smiles.
Lots of love and hugs and keeping you in prayer.

  3. I am thankful that I know the view out of my window will not change much. I look out into the woods and our pasture where if you look close you will see a horse or two.

  4. I find that as long as I stay open to change I worry less and life doesn't get too stressful.
Hope you join in with Mosaic Monday now and again when we relaunch on August 1st @ Normandy Life.

  5. Changes are harder for me the older I get, Vee. Our neighbors, as lovely as they are, put up one of those white plastic fences that sticks above our wooden fence. It's taken me all summer to adjust. Maybe they were trying to cover up our wooden fence! I hope the new view will be just as pretty as your old one. ♥

  6. Kitchen windows are always so fascinating, love the burlap around the vases in your original view.

  7. It will probably be very pretty when it's done, maybe they will put a pretty garden in front that you can enjoy :)

  8. There seems to be an agreement with what I feel - change is more difficult to enjoy as we get older.I do like the warm interesting fabric hung over your window and the beautiful plate hung on the side and the entire good feeling of your home as we have seen it...I hope your new neighbors will be good neighbors. That is worth so much.

  9. I agree the reason is good, but it's hard to let go of something (the view) we enjoyed for so long! Perhaps once the landscaping is done, this may be come a favorite view again. Hope so!

  10. Change is hard to accept sometimes, even one involving a landscape. Once the renovation is completed I'll bet it will be a lovely view from your kitchen window again. Gosh, just wondering how many times I've looked out that window with you Vee. lol You should see my kitchen sink window view - the brick of the house next door. :-(

  11. I do love a kitchen window sill too, with a couple of potted plants etc. Yours is extra nice as it comes with a view which will be lovely again soon. :)

  12. Possible good new neighbors sounds hopeful. We do get used to a view, which is why our scrawny little elm stands to get in the way of a broader view.

  13. Oh yes, it will look much better in time ... covering the Typar with siding will help a lot, and presumably that will happen soon. I hope they keep the shabby shed. I would! It sounds as if you will have nice new neighbors.

  14. I can't help but think of God's timing of you having this new view with new neighbors. Praying they will be a blessing to you!

  15. I'm glad you like the reason for the change. I like to have a view of what's happening around us in the neighborhood. We are in for some changes here with new neighbors moving in once the kids of my neighbor are able to sell her home. So I think I'll take some photos to document what it looks like now and how things will change when new neighbors move in.

  16. Change can be hard but it's inevitable...and it can also be a good thing. I just bet that your new neighbors will be really good ones. It may take a little time to get used to your new view but maybe they will plant lots of lovely flowers in the front yard! :)

  17. You seem to be going with the flow, Vee. It sounds like your new neighbors may be a good addition to the neighborhood too! I always love your little window vignette however you change it. My kitchen view is the neighbors fence. I figure this is better than looking into one another's windows!

  18. I love looking out my window from my kitchen. My little window sill right now just hold a picture of me, my girls and grandgirls all dressed in our aprons ready to bake. Sounds like some changes going on in your neck of the woods but they could very well be GREAT ones. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  19. Well, the new view is changing and it gives you something to look at while you do your dishes. You can check on the progress each day, and perhaps have some new friendly neighbors when they move in.

  20. Oh yes, one day it will be beautiful again. How about some temporary stained glass or lace stick-ons for the lower panes?

  21. Hi Vee! This is such a lovely photo looking out your window! It is so soft and summery looking...very peaceful! Great job! Yes, how wonderful for your neighbor...aging parents are such a difficult winding road...we learned to expect "the unexpected!" Blessings to you for these days...in my thoughts and prayers!

  22. Well, I'll bet you'll have nice neighbors, Vee!
It also looked like you had a wonderful 4th, and I'm sure John was smiling on all of you. xo

  23. Hi Vee~

First of all, I just need to let you know how sorry I am for the loss of your sweetheart. Please know that you are in my prayers and thoughts each day. I know that you are being watched over, loved and helped through this difficult time, by angels seen, and unseen. I truly believe that we are never far from those that we love. Hugs to you and your family.

Now, onto changes in the neighborhood! I am not good with change, but it just seems to keep on coming. I think that your new neighbors will love you, and you will love them as well! It seems like we are always having changes in my neighborhood, and I must say, I have loved . . . almost all of them . . . ;0)

    Hugs,
    Barb

  24. It is hard to have something change after enjoying it the way it was. When we made an offer on our previous house it was sitting between to wooded lots. After the offer was accepted, when were back at the house with the inspector and the wooded lot to the left of us had been cleared and a house was being built! That was a shocker. We didn't even know that was a buildable lot, we thought it was green space in our community.

  25. I would buy just a few more pretties to go in the window sill until the building is finished!

  26. I love to do the same to my kitchen window too. : )
Maybe they will put in lots of beautiful flowers and it will be an even better view. : ) Me the optimist.
Dr said it was fine if I wanted to try the alpha-lipoic. I just might try it.

    1. I started taking it and it seems to be working for me...either that or it's all in my head!

  27. I do love a kitchen window. I have a big one in front of my dining table. We can see the highway now, but as soon as the trees grow, we will have a magnificent view with the mountains in the distances. We have two rabbits that play in our back yard every afternoon.

  28. One thing I really miss in this new place (3 yrs, now) is that I don't have a window over my sink...but...I have 5 windows and 2 sets of double French doors sooo I think I may put a pretty mirror over my sink and it might LOOK like a window...it won't be the same..it;s not really the window I miss so much as the times I stood looking out at David riding his bike...or Stacy learning to sidewalk skate...memories...that's what I miss, I guess...

  29. I hope that the new owners of the home being built will become good friends, Vee. We have only lived here 3 summers but we have seen a BIG change in our surrounding area. There has been so much development! It makes me sad to see a lot of the green space going away. I'm glad that many areas are protected as parks, and that my community is at capacity and no more building is allowed.

  30. It is hard to see our nice views change. I think you're right about this looking better once it is all finished. It sounds like you will be getting some nice new neighbors.

  31. Changing views. A constant reality, isn't it?

  32. New neighbors could be a blessing!

  33. The older I get, the less I like change! Here's hoping that you learn to love the 'new view' and that your new neighbours are a 'real gift' to you. I especially like that I have such a vivid picture in my mind...of your window and your view. To think...I once stood right there and looked out that same window. Surreal!

  34. I hope that you get to know your new neighbours and that they become great new friends! Change can be a good thing can't it.

  35. I LOVE a good view out of my window, and I see you are no different...shocker..lol. I do love your little window sill and the arrangements you always have on it as well. Yes, life is all about change and different views isn't it? I think your new neighbors may be very strategically placed there by our God, and I look forward to your meeting them and seeing just what they bring to your world.
