A Haven for Vee

What a Week!

Yes, and a great one! ☺ If you want to read more about why I think so, you can check the "Let's Get Political" button at the bottom of the page. For all of those saying Let's Not, it probably wouldn't be a great idea. Yes, definitely good for you folks to have a warning to stay away.

Political junkie that I am, and always have been, I have been trying to get caught up on my rest. There have been many late nights over the past weeks and months watching rallies and then being up until the wee hours Wednesday morning meant that I was sleep deprived. Last night was my first "normal" night in a long, long time.

Then, too, there was that garage. Oh that garage. Maybe, I will tuck a photo in later when the light is better because some minor progress has been accomplished and I would like to document it. (ETA: Come back Monday, too many photos to just pop one in. Besides, I found a photo of John's parents and it is darling.) Basically, I decided what I wanted to tackle each day. It was done in small bites. I might say, "I want to clear the west wall."  I'd quit when that bit was done. The job would overwhelm me otherwise. Things can still get done with baby steps. Today I tidied the stairs and vacuumed them. Gone are the days when I can go through everything that needs doing and get it all done in one fell swoop.

Found a box of Christmas lights carefully packed (not by me) and put away in a corner of the garage. Had to test them, of course, and they are all still working. I knew that I had more lights somewhere.

These have been tucked away because I really am early. When I was a kid, I always wanted a Santa mug. Last year, I looked high and low for some and could not find any so when I saw these, I grabbed them. They have become the first gifts for Christmas this year. I don't think those grands read here. ☺

  1. Hi Vee, Those are the cutest Santa mugs. Like you, I no longer can clean the whole place. I do a little at a time. I agree completely with your political post. It is important now to continue to pray earnestly for Pres. elect Trump. I hope you will have a pleasant weekend. Our area is thick with smoke from many wildfires. Praying for rain.

  2. Those mugs are a delight, what great gifts. I tend to my cleaning in stages too makes for a easier night(no aches and pains). Take care.

  3. I'm so glad to hear that others clean as I do -- a box here, a table there. Eventually it does get all done even though it takes forever! But that's the only way I can do it these days. These bones of mine just aren't as young as they used to be.

As for your political views, I'm with you 100%. Now we pray long and hard for our country and our political leaders.

  4. Thos are THE cutest Santa mugs. I had one as a child and have three for the grands! And let me say...I DID go to the Political button and it made me smile and dance too! Godspeed to our country....I have faith!

  5. Thanks for the smiles...I have been writing about the snowflakes on campus and how the campus is offering therapy. Sad, but true.

    Have a beautiful day, friend.

  7. Intense week- add to that out of town overnight guests last weekend, electricity out for 2 days off and on, clean up for everything for 6 out of state guests this weekend, several appointments and the election and choir practice and last weekend Baptism party - oh Vee, and I am not sleeping.....praying my tea party goes well today. Broke a nail and reading blogs while my nail ppolish dries than back to it!

One thing about the guests today is that we are filled with Christian love, and seriously if we sat in the dark and ate pizza and prayed together we'd be just fine. But BECAUSE I adore my best friends so much I always want it to be perfect. Maybe this time we're in the middle somewhere, but that's ok too.

They're hear to meet my grand-daughter for the first time, and that is celebration enough, right?

Baby steps on your cleaning/organizing jobs. It's not easy but I believe in you.

    Hang in there. Hugs. ♥♥♥

I just finished reading your political page. As Tim said, you're on the same page as us. I had a feeling you would be. I regret I was able to add my vote, but apparently President elect Trump made it without me!

  9. We were pretty sleep deprived too. It has been hard to get back
to routine after this long trip--- praying early on that God would expose
the evil and He sure didn't hold back.God bless America's middle class.
that had it with this. (man in the woman's bathroom bunch.)

  10. I fell asleep before I knew the results, Vee. I just went to your politely button and yea, we believe the same.
Happy cleaning the garage with baby steps, Vee.

  11. I think it's safe for me to head to your political page after I comment here. I slept well on Wednesday night, too. Love the Santa Mugs. It's good to handle things in small chunks for sure. I think we will be outnumbered at the Thanksgiving gathering we are invited to this year. I hope that's a long enough time so the election doesn't come up. Enjoy your weekend.

  12. Just read the page out loud to Dear. I love it when I can find those with whom I can dance freely! Yes, and Amen!

  13. Sorry...it's me again. I read a comment I enjoyed on Facebook and it's hard to find good stuff on Facebook lately but here it is. "You've got to love protesters sporting backpacks, bottled water and Starbucks in hand. Shouldn't they just be given a trophy so they can go home?"

  14. Enjoyed this warm and cozy post. I also have been toying with Christmas lights. The early darkness settling in makes me want some little lights around. I too stayed up into the next day --- could not stop watching! Smiles all around.

  15. The Santa mugs are just the cutest...the boys will love them.

I really have to pace myself, too, when it comes to big projects like major cleaning, painting and anything that involves a lot of physical labor. I can't decide if it's because I'm terribly out of shape (read lazy) or if it's because I'm olden.

About the election...still grinning here. :)

  16. Cute mugs for the grands - who couldn't love them! Little by little on the garage is a good plan. Says she who is procrastinating this morning on some chores.

  17. Well, you have certainly been disciplined about the garage, and I know it must feel really good to have made such progress. I absolutely love the Santa mugs. Your grands will love them! :)

    Blessings...

  18. Fun and cozy post. Those are some of the cutest Santa mugs I've seen!

Oh yes ... I have to pace myself on cleaning. I like your idea of doing a wall or so at a time in the garage. I have SO much to do, but it will get done in time.

And the lights ... we had a pre-lit tree in our bedroom and the lights died a couple of years ago so we added a new string. This past year we decided to leave the tree up as it makes a great soft light for one person to get ready for work by while the other dozes for another ten minutes or so. A few weeks ago the light string died; first the lower half, then the top half. So Sunday night Mr. T took time to take off the old string and replace it with a new one! The lights are glowing again.

And the election ... oh, what a relief. Prayers were answered for sure. We didn't stay up to watch or listen to returns, just waited until Wednesday morning to find out. Now we must pray even more intensely for our president-elect and other newly elected officials. They need wisdom far beyond their own, wisdom only God can give. I enjoyed your political post very much.

Sad thing (but something similar has been happening every year since our state has had same-day voter registration) -- our town is a university town and students were brought to the polls by the van load by the Clinton campaign. The majority of course vote Democratic and, what's worse, you just know some have already voted absentee in the area where they're from. Not saying they all did, but some for sure. Word has it they were promised free pizza ... guess we should be thankful it wasn't free beer!

  19. This is the first year I've not felt that I had to sew or bake something to give as Christmas gifts. Yet, I am so ready for Christmas and excited about putting up our trees and getting the nativity set out. It's our tradition to decorate our home the day after Thanksgiving. I'm excited! Seeing your Christmas lights and the Santa mugs just made me smile again!

  20. Love those mugs.
A good idea to tackle small bits at a time.
I really try to do that to.

  21. Little by Little.......The ONLY way I can do anything, anymore....I did want to ask if you would share the name of the leaf blower you bought....Thanks.

  22. Your strategy for tackling the garage is a good one. Slow and steady wins the race.
Love those Santa mugs. I think they are especially cute with the little spoons attached.

  23. Tackling a big job a little at a time is the only way to get it done, Vee. We've been slowly but surely cleaning out the attic and the basement of heavens know what!
Cute little Santa mugs. I have a set that is ancient. One little one was nested inside a large one and we've not been able to get them apart. Oh well, that's what we get for not packing properly. ♥

  24. Those lights would make John happy! And those cute mugs!

I haven't visited the political page yet but I will. Tuesday evening we went as a family to the movies, a rare occurrence, and when we came out I looked at my phone to see how things were going. A friend showed the NY Times app that was predicting a Trump win, and I was so amazed. When we got home, Rachel and I watched coverage online and stayed up until the wee morning hours!

I'm glad you are finding a way to get your projects done. Brenda has long advocated doing things bit by bit! When my back bothers me that's how I do things!

    Off to read!

    1. Yes, he would! And he's the one who packed them away so nicely. Each string was unknotted, loosely rolled, and with a section of newspaper between every layer. I recognized his work immediately. Yes, I have been doing things bit by bit since my FlyLady days. Brenda has been a wonderful reenforcer.

  25. It doesn't seem that long ago we were discussing our Canadian election and now you've had yours. (don't mean to brag but our leader is better looking:-) I don't understand why a country of so many could only come up with the two choices you had - will be reading your political thoughts.
Glad I'm not the only one who can only do so much a day before exhaustion sets in. How on earth did I work p/t, see to family duties and clean the whole house?
The Santa mugs are sweet - will they come with packets of hot chocolate?

    1. It took a man who had his own money so that he would not be beholden to outside interests, including outside foreign interests. This can not be said of the other major candidate who has basically sold her soul. Too many politicians, as in MOST, are bought and paid for. So he had to not only be independently wealthy, he had to also be a patriot, brilliant, sly like a fox, fearless, and willing to tell the absolute truth. He had to be willing to suffer the slings and arrows.

  26. Oh, I am trying very hard not to think of decorating for Christmas...we have most of our family here for Thanksgiving lunch and I want pumpkins and fall wreaths to still be hanging on. For yrs, I've put my tree up the day after Thanksgiving...I'll do it again this yr.
    I love those Santa mugs....

  27. I really like your plan to tackle only so much at a time, making "small" goals (even those aren't truly small). Very do-able. I need to think like that with my projects.

Love your header, too. You always do such a good job with your headers.

And the Santa mugs. Very cute and festive.

  30. Vee, I should be ashamed as I have never commented on your blog. I read it all the time and love it.
I too have to do housework in smaller bits these days. That day of cleaning it all from one end to the other passed by way too quickly.
I jumped down and read your political page. Relieved I was into the wee hours of Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. I couldn't go to sleep until I knew he had 270. The big cities have no clue what the regular people of this world want or think.
We have to pray for him even more now, because he will hit the walls of establishment quickly. I hope God will bless his efforts and he can shake it up in Washington. Snoopy happy dance for sure.

  31. A lot of us seem to have reached the stage in life when "little by little" is the best way to get something done. Grateful we are still mobile enough for that!! And your political page was quite refreshing. Also, thanks for the mention of DuckDuckGo which I did not know about before.

  32. ....if I haven't told you how proud of you I am about your renewed interest in blogging, and the prettiness of it..., your beautiful photos, your outlook on life....I'm telling you now, sweet friend.

  33. I am a lot like you- watching late night news and election returns. I, for one, am just glad it is over-now let's hope our country heals and we can move forward. Maybe we can get a little God back in our country now.

I did the same thing when I was working on the house- took bits at a time..and kept at that bit until it was done and then moved on. It is amazing what you can accomplish when you just keep at it, isn't it? I got so much done in late summer that it still feels good.

Hope you have a really great week. xo Diana

  34. Hi Vee

You know we both "agree to disagree" so I won't be reading your separate political post ;) Time will tell if the change he promised will really come about.

I love those Santa mugs!I still have the one from my childhood--it was a cheapo one my Mom probably found in a five and dime, but I've always loved it. I bought a few new ones on sale after Christmas one year that I use with my grandchildren.

It is always easier to do a little at a time when cleaning. The best way to not get overwhelmed.

  35. Smiling here...after reading your post and and your 'postscript dance page'! I was a little sleep deprived myself that night...stayed up until the bitter end as well. Rejoicing with you in the outcome...but must admit that we here in Canada who listen to the liberal media of our country did not see that coming at all.

Why am I also the last one in blogland to 'get with the program' when it comes to decorating for the season? I'm still enjoying the fall decor. But I am looking forward to getting out the Christmas decorations...soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. It's good to tackle a bit at a time for sure. Otherwise it is too overwhelming. The mugs are cute! I have the vintage ones that are displayed every year. I'm trying to tackle the Christmas decorating but not succeeding. Lots of time yet! And the entry walls need sanding again whenever the guy gets here, then primed and painted. And the floor installed. Have a super week Vee.

  38. So, I guess we can't comment on the back page but I so enjoyed the read! I, too, have laid low and backed out of several blogs very quietly. I join you in praising God and praying fervently for Donald Trump every single day!
