I heard she was sued in the six figure range.

I usually only use my own photos in my posts, but I have used photos form time to time from the web and always thought by listing the source I'd be safe. I won't be doing that any longer. I get asked for permission to use photos I've piut in my blog from time to time and I always appreciate that people do that. I usually say "yes" as long as I get some attribution. I think if I really need a photo from now on I'll ask permission to use it. Copyright is a very serious issue, and for good reason!

Pinterest puzzles me as I don't look at it as "using" a photo, just remembering where I saw it. I know Susan Branch was upset that people were pinning from her website and asked Pinerest that all such pins be taken down. Now she uses the code that Pinterest provides to bock pins. I'd hate to delete my Pinterest boards, as I love them so and use them to go back to web sites that I love, but I'm trying to be more careful there from now on to make sure the source of the photo is clear.

I hope you find those potatoes before your nose finds them!Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoritihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08922525910685129822noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152193618785368659.post-61391843154732272582014-01-28T17:29:24.287-05:002014-01-28T17:29:24.287-05:00Hmmm...I have to fess up I thought the potatoes we...Hmmm...I have to fess up I thought the potatoes were the lost ones too. I had actually already come across this article on my own because I had read something else that raised up a red flag and started to do some research about the subject. I have only done this a time or two when I first started my blog but just in case I missed something, really need to go through my posts. When I was making my first header last summer, I was googling random "country" photos and had picked a couple out to put on it. One of my sweet blogging friends who knew I was just a newbie, politely commented about one of the shots (a pink mailbox). Right away I admitted that it wasn't my photo and when I looked it up again, it originated on a sweet girl's photography website! I was so ashamed, embarrassed, afraid, etc. I gave her props through a link back to her site until I was able to create another header with all of MY OWN pics! Never, again will I use any other pics but my own...it was good lesson! Now about those potatoes.....not sure what to think...Debby Rayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02499542865677173703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152193618785368659.post-81184303023519531952014-01-28T16:15:41.005-05:002014-01-28T16:15:41.005-05:00I put together a few years ago a blog about my gre...I put together a few years ago a blog about my great grandfather's diary when he crossed the country with the first pioneer train of Mormon pioneers. I started on the day that he started and wrote his diary entries each say until he got to Salt Lake City in 1847. To make it better, I went through Google Images and got photos of everywhere they stopped as it looks today. It was really interesting until I went to publish it into a book. That's when I found out I needed permission for every single photo or no photos could be used. SO! I went back through every single photo I used and found the owner and asked for permission to use their photo. Everybody said yes and I credited every photo on the site to their owner. There was only one photo that I couldn't find an owner for and I decided to use it anyway until somebody said that I couldn't. Copyright is copyright.....wherever we go, I guess. This internet stuff has created a huge can of worms with which we all have to re-learn how to do things.RoeHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00131723337404316867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152193618785368659.post-9967378994063353902014-01-28T16:11:52.515-05:002014-01-28T16:11:52.515-05:00Everyone's thinking seems to be along the same...Everyone's thinking seems to be along the same track... you will smell where those potatoes are soon!Brenda@CoffeeTeaBookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02719695370857675146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4152193618785368659.post-65386325583129076002014-01-28T15:47:42.150-05:002014-01-28T15:47:42.150-05:00Thank you, Vee, for all that good advice and the w...Thank you, Vee, for all that good advice and the warning about using other people's photos. This is a subject that has come up numerous times over the years I have been blogging and I still see people use other peoples images all the time. In fact one big decorating blogger I follow uses other people's photos almost exclusively and I have always wondered how she can do that. It's a good reminder though, that some people are territorial over their work, and rightly so!
