Meeting Donna

It’s so much fun to meet a blogger. Donna of Cottage Days and Journeys is the ninth whom I have been privileged to meet in person. A meeting is an extension of the friendship that has already been established for some years.  We all say that. Meeting seems just as natural as natural can be. If you ever get the chance to meet a fellow blogger, grab it!

Donna was in Maine with a group of photographers taking pictures of iconic Maine. I am so looking forward to seeing some of the photos that she took while here. I have one and here it is…

This is one that Donna took with her iPhone and shared with me via email. She did not give me permission to use it here so I'll have to beg her forgiveness. It is just so cool! It's the kind of photo that one can expect to see at Cottage Days...

This is another, the only photo taken at our meeting. It was almost an afterthought and a way to prove that we actually had been there at the same time in the same place.

She wants me to tell you this: Please remind everyone that I am NOT a portrait photographer, nor do I take selfies. What an embarrassment for my standard of photographic quality!  Hahaha...  The photo simply documents two dear blogging friends who finally met in person (after many, many years) and loved each other more as a result.

I can’t say it any better than that.

We met in Freeport (home of L.L. Bean’s flagship store) at a pizza bistro where we enjoyed yummy brick oven pizzas. No pics. Sorry! We were there after lunch and a few hours before supper so it worked out well for us to chat and chat.  Donna is just as cute and vibrant as she can be. She was dressed as she would be in the field — like the photographer that she is. She had been up before the dawn to take pictures of the sunrise at Pemaquid and still she was soldiering on through a blogging meet after a long drive. Our conversation was our own and I am blessed that we had it. I’ll not soon forget all that Donna shared.

After saying our goodbyes, I left with gifts and a full heart and the determination to get John into the car for a drive the following day.

I’m happy to report that the drive happened and John and I had a lovely forsythia seeking adventure culminating with supper out. Meals out two days in a row...woot!

Thank you, Donna, for everything. It would be lovely if our paths should cross again!

  10. So exciting! I love her photography and she stole my heart with her tender care of her husband, and then her losing him. So happy that she knows you, Vee! Those of us who do are blessed! You are an encourager!

  12. Love the selfie! Oh it just dawned on me by seeing Deanna's comment that she's the Donna that lost her husband recently. I'm glad she is continuing with her photography. I'm adding her blog to my feedly. I hope feedly doesn't go away. It is so much fun to meet other bloggers. Loved seeing the photos of your Spring!

  15. I'd love to meet you but can't see a trip out East soon. The kids are coming here in a few weeks after their house sells. They will be living in a rental while their new (smaller) house is built.

  16. It was my pleasure and joy to finally meet up with you, Miz Vee! We had a great chat, and I am richer to now know you in person! You are only the third blogging friend that I have met. Can you believe so few? You are forgiven, sweetie, for borrowing that iPhone photo of the optical viewer along the rocky Maine coastline. It represents a little bit of whimsy, with its iconic metal face. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to drive over to Freeport to meet up with me, and also for the very kind things you said about me in this post!

  17. P.S. I am so glad that you and John were inspired enough to get out for a beautiful spring drive the next day. Please "get out there" as often as you can to enjoy God's creations. Time is fleeting. As I gently reminded you, it can all be gone in a flash. So it is best to savor each and every day as a gift!

  26. Hi Vee,
It's been a while so I had a lot of reading to catch up on....How lovely to meet your dear blogging friend! I have noticed quite a few of these meetings happening lately! I saw the lovely packages you received and blogged about. The pillowcases are beautiful with the decorative stitching. Your package of yellow gifts was also very nice. I noticed the teacup right away as I have become a bit obsessed with collecting them. Hope all is well. Your blog title used to be on my side bar and I don't know where (or how) it went away so I am putting it back....Enjoy the rest of the week!

That was an accomplishment to get John out for a drive, and dinner! Actually, it's heartwarming as I know how much I enjoy meals out with my hubby, a real treat!

  32. So wonderful that you could meet Donna and it sounds like you had a great time. Love, love the selfie!!!! You both look wonderful - so rarely do we get to see your pretty face! Spring is springing where you are too. We are far behind our friends to the far West but it's coming along slowly. Life truly is short and we must enjoy each day we are granted!

  33. How lovely! It was so much fun to read this and share in your day together.

  35. You two gorgeous girls - how lovely to see a photo of you both!
How I would have loved to have been there too!
I think of dear Donna so often and wonder how things are - it's so good she has her photography. Her photographs have always inspired to think more about composition and not just snap away!
Remember when we all met up at Personal Photo Challenge, maybe we will again - who knows.
I can just imagine all the yacking, did either of you draw breath?!!!
Beautiful gifts and a meeting you will hold in your heart forever Vee.

  37. It's on my "bucket list" to meet some of my favorite fellow-bloggers! How lucky for you, you've met 9, XOXO

  38. How wonderful to meet a fellow blogger, especially one as nice and interesting as Donna sounds! I've met many friends from discussion groups, but only one I can think of from blogging. Somehow they are always kindred spirits and give me a better feeling about the whole world when we have met.

And I would find it extraordinary to have a meal out two days in a row, though it does occasionally happen.

  41. HI Vee. I'm so excited that you got to meet Donna. What a sweet photo of you two! I would love to have been there. I'm glad you got out for a drive with John to see spring blooming and for a second lunch! That is always special. :) The forsythia is blooming here too which surprises me that it is at the same time yours is.

  45. What fun...meeting up with Donna like that! And I can picture the place perfectly...since we spent some delightful hours in Freeport. We also spent some delightful hours in your home town...with you and John. Yes, what a blessing it is to meet up with other bloggers. And like you say...there aren't many surprises since we already know one another quite well through our blogs. I have met about a dozen over the years...five American and the rest Canadians. And all of them are gems! So nice to see your 'selfie'!

  47. How fun to read about your meeting with Donna. Her iPhone picture is awesome. I think it could be a great post card or maybe a note card :).
I also think that this is a very flattering selfie of you. You look great!

  48. I'm so jealous!! Not really, but someday I hope to meet Donna in person. She's such a loving and kind person just as I know you must be also. If all goes to plan, I'll be meeting my first (in person) blogger in October. She lives in Scotland, and will be here in Florida. I can't wait. :)

  49. I'm ticked to death that you two met and enjoyed every minute of it. I've met only 2 bloggers and cherish that blessing...
the both of you are darling.

  50. So much fun! So happy you and Donna could meet and have such a wonderful conversation. Your picture together is so cute.

I have not met any bloggers in person (other than several whom I already knew before they started blogging!) but I hope someday that I can. I have made at least one really good friend through blogging, and although she does not live nearby, we have been blessed to meet up together several times.

We love Freeport too and have been thinking about another getaway, but it's not looking likely anytime soon...
