Tulip Time Dishes

This is mostly a picture story, a
dish story, and a friendship story.

Some weeks ago now, Kimberly at Camp and Cottage Living, mentioned some dishes that she had found. If you'd like to read the back story, you'll find it *here.*  As a result of that post, I now have some beautiful gifts from Kim. I had offered to pay for the dishes and Kimberly told me that I must receive them so as not to steal her joy.

The box contained dishes, linen, a towel for draining dishes, a field and forest cupcake party pack (which will be getting good use shortly), two "green" bags for groceries, and a sweet thank you card. Who should be thanking whom around here?

Kim wondered what I might do with the chipped pieces...have no fear, I always have a plan! I simply extended the line. (I used a cropped photo of the dishes in my header.)

This card tickled me because I think of those who periodically tell me that they must clean their screens of coffee spurts. ☺

Thank you, Kimberly! You're a Dear Heart.

Now, please visit Kim to see how she has updated the kitchen in her new home. It's adorable and you'll find it on her post titled My Budget Kitchen Reveal...

A Green "Monet"~Inspiration Thursday

When I first learned about today's inspiration, I wasn't sure that I had any "green" inspirations. I could show a leaf or something and, in a way, that is what I'm doing. I found this dish in the depths of the china cupboard. Like yesterday's lamb, it belonged to my grandmother; it looks like majolica to me, though it has no markings.

While it looks okay from a distance, on closer inspection —

it's a real mess! All those apricot colored bits on the tips of the leaves are where the paint has worn off. There are many problems with this dish. I think I'll tag it with a "do not use for food" note.

Yes, it's a monet all right

Wasn't this inspiring? Well don't you worry, there'll be some inspiring offerings at Mary's Little Red House later today all featuring green.

Do you own any less than perfect by a lot pieces that you are unwilling to part with?

A New Set of Dishes

Just after Thanksgiving, I heard a report on Black Friday Shopping. It seems that people were shopping and spending money and it was mostly on themselves. How fascinating! My problem exactly. I can always find things for me when Christmas shopping. Usually, I deny myself. This year I did not. I bought the new set of dishes! *Gasp*

It was the polka dots. And the vivid colors. And the sweetness. I could not pass by.

For $3.50 they were mine. I'm thanking Uncle and Auntie for the inspiration. (I hope that he loved his train set.)

I am dismantling ever so slowly. It's easier to cope with that way...this putting away of Christmas. As always, I remind myself that before year's end, it'll all be up again. And besides, I'll never pack all of Christmas away.

A happy Tuesday to you...

P.S. Well great. Back off from blogging for a few short hours and one can't even remember to postdate. Sigh. In that case, have a happy Monday evening and a great Tuesday! =)

Indiana Custard

Indiana Custard - (1933-1935) Indiana Custard was made for only two years. It was made by the Indiana Glass Company. Indiana Custard must have been extremely popular during this period because you see quite a few pieces of this pattern today. Indiana Custard came only in Custard or Ivory indictive of its name. The only extremely hard to find pieces are the sherbets, salad plates, and luncheons. They were probably sold as an addition to a boxed set and not as part of one. This pretty set goes with almost any decor and would be fun to collect. ~Source

That's an understatement for this gal. I recently turned an aisle at the local flea market and stumbled right into a table laden with these amazing dishes. The color is so rich and yes, I'll say it — delicious. Each dinner plate is selling for $38 so it is unlikely that this set will ever grace my home. But oh to have dishes that are so elegant and able to fit in anywhere. Do any of you have this collection? Have you ever seen it?

For those of you who arrived here today hoping for a recipe, I hate to disappoint. This one for Custard Bread Pudding is great and it hails from Indiana!

I did buy a teacup and saucer for only $2.52. It was badly stained from having actually served as a teacup, but cleaned up well. It's featured in the center. (You can click on the photo to see it better.)

Enjoy your Tuesday...
