Christmas Eve 2016

After some lovely company today, the house is quiet except for the ticking of the clocks and the crackling of the fake fire. It is Christmas pretty (not perfect) with candles glowing, the lit tree, the wee village cheery, and the carolers singing. It's a foggy night so the fence lights do not cast their light farther than a few feet. Christmas cards from far and near surround me. My heart is full even if it feels heavy sometimes. Everything that has needed doing has been done, until tomorrow comes.

Wishing you a Merry and Blessed Christmas with your family and friends and may you always remember that as long as you know Jesus you have everything.

Veterans Day 2016

A re-post with a brief postscript...
Did you wonder this morning as I did how Veterans Day should be spelled? Was it Veteran's Day, Veterans' Day or Veterans Day? I wonder about it every year. This year I settled it once and for all: Veterans Day!

***

Some towns honor the day with parades, flowers, and flags placed on graves, patriotic songs, and memories. Any way that it is honored is good as long as it is honored. This is my town's way — the sand pile, which looks impressive, has been "engraved" with God Bless Our Troops, a flag, and a yellow ribbon.

My father served in the Korean War. Some years ago, we learned that a three times great-grandfather of mine on the distaff side had served in the Civil War; just last week, we've learned that the Civil War soldier's grandfather had served in the Revolutionary War and had probably fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill with General Putnam. Fascinating information.

I have to smile that these men are on the "Canadian" side. My mother and grandmother were Canadians and these were their ancestors, but what I've not mentioned is that my grandmother's mother was an American, born in Gloucester, Massachusetts. (Her paternal grandfather is the Civil War soldier and her paternal great-grandfather the Revolutionary War soldier.) She became a Canadian when she married my Canadian great-grandfather (whose ancestors also hail from the U.S., but were Royalists during the Revolutionary War).

I am proud of their service and, most of all, grateful for their service. Soldiers hold the country together through the most difficult of times with the help of Almighty God. God bless them all.

P.S. As I have continued to work with my family's genealogy, I have found more soldiers. There are more Revolutionary War soldiers and Civil War soldiers. There are two sets of fathers and sons who served together. This flabbergasts me. I am so grateful for all they did way back in the beginning. Those who stood up and fought against tyranny are the ones I most admire.

A Brighter Day

Just can't leave the blog as I did yesterday. Talk about mortification...I truly am...mortified that is. I am blaming a snowstorm and my being prone to think the worst first. You'd think that I would have learned by now for I have always been proven wrong by doing that, given enough time. The blog was an easy fix once I settled down long enough to figure it out.

"It will pass, the sun will break through..."

Okay, moving right along with something brighter...

Yes, it did snow all day yesterday accumulating about four inches. It won't last this day. Funny how snow in December seems good and fine, but at the end of April it is terribly discouraging. Though it may look like winter outside and, while I am hearing the steady run of melting snow from the roofs,  inside it is spring. Further, snow does not compare to tornadoes, floods, hail or many of the foul weather systems that some have faced recently. Spring has always had a mind of its own.

Besides, since the first robin has been spotted, it must be spring!

Of this photo, John says that my ink blot profile must be off the chart. (Hmmm...wonder what he means by that.) This is a marble birthday cake made by my grandson and me for his dad's birthday. When it came out of the oven, I called Jakob over to see what he had to say about the picture on the top. We see a rabbit on skis. It looks as if he is tossing globs of chocolate into his mouth. One can even see the motion marks. Jakob said that since he was responsible for the chocolate part of the marbling that he is obviously responsible for this picture. We got a kick out of it.

My gift to you today is closing comments so that you may skip along with all due apologies for yesterday. Gheesh.

See you next week, The Lord willing and my wits stay intact.

I Can't Understand It

I've done something to my back. I look like an old character from a fairy tale, all bent over and hobbling. My treatment of choice is a bag of frozen gel applied on the notoriously guilty sciatic nerve.

This is bizarre because all the moving I did was from here

to there.

So, this is to say that I'm out for a few until my back decides to allow me to enjoy  visiting and playing again.

Take care now...

Blue Dream of Sky

I thank you, God, for this most amazing day...for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes. ~ e.e. cummings

Enjoy a lovely weekend!
