Tints of Autumn

So here I am again as promised. Just as I was about to write this post, I heard footsteps on my stairs so went in search of whomever~whatever and found my sister-in-law Mary peeking in the garage window.

That caused her to jump. She was just wondering if I was in the garage working as I have been quite often of late. One thing led to another and pretty soon we were off for lunch. We both opted for hamburgers. They were huge. I couldn't eat all of mine and she couldn't eat all of hers. Nevertheless, lunch out was a pleasant diversion.

Last Friday, a rainy Friday, Laurel and I took off for our annual Leaf-Peeping Day. We began by eating lunch at one of our favorite places and for the next three hours, I spent a lot of time wondering where I was. Laurel knows a lot more roads than I do.

πŸπŸƒπŸ

...I see the sunset light flooding the river valley, the western hills stretching to the horizon, overhung with trees gorgeous and glowing with the tints of autumn--a mighty flower garden, blossoming under the spell of the enchanter, Frost...

~John Greenleaf Whittier

The softened light, the veiling haze,
The calm repose of autumn days,
Steal gently o'er the troubled breast,
Soothing life's weary cares
to rest.

~Phebe A. Holder

As long as you have a window, life is exciting.

And all the way home again where my own view isn't so bad.

No, that is not a bottle of beer in the window. It's a pumpkin pie soda bottle...truly awful, but the bottle was too cute to leave on the shelf.

Thank you for your visit, thank you for the kind comments on yesterday's post.

Thus concludes October foliage posts from my corner, but don't conclude those from your own. I do love foliage reports.

Astonished by October

This first photo is an experiment. I am trying to figure out how to have a photo actually show up in the blog profiles. I have grown weary of blπŸ‘€πŸ‘€ger deciding how my blog shows up. I am willing to bend to their standards if I only knew what they were.
Let us move on to more pleasant things asap.

[Edited to Add: The experiment proved that hoping a small picture would show in blog profiles is not the answer. ]

Photo taken by my daughter in her corner. This is her friend's home; Laurel is on cat duty this week. That's Sugarloaf in the distance.

I was out a few days ago...I really needed a chauffeur as my head was on a swivel looking at the beautiful foliage. That, in itself, surprised me because we are a week past peak. I kept asking myself how it could be that it all was so glorious and that's when I realized that it was the light. The light was able to reach the deepest reaches of each tree illuminating them from within. Glorious!

Very happy to have Jake's new school picture...last year was a bust. Now I'm waiting on Sam's.

Have you been astonished by October, too? I hope that you are enjoying this exquisite time of year. Keep sharing!

Every Bird Has a Song

I hope. Because I have been fretting over a blog post for some time now. If I don't get to it this week, it won't happen. (This is the first good week I've enjoyed in five and that's all I'll say about that.)

yes, the thought is floating through the room...πŸ˜‰

Before I forget or allow the opportunity to pass, I have some lovely Ladies in Blogdom to thank. Alas, I did not take wonderful pictures of said gifts so have sprinkled a few pictures through this post. I am definitely slipping.
Big thanks to Abby, BJ, Kim, Sara, and Sue. (Hopefully, I am not forgetting anyone. I have received so many cards as well...many with tea tucked in. I won't have to buy tea for months! ツ )  Please remember, I don't need or want for anything. Your comments are more than enough.

You can find the tutorial for this apple coaster (and see a better pic) right *here.

Feathers and Flowers

first tree to turn in the neighborhood

One of my gifts was the perfect box to keep all the handmade books gals have been making me for some time now. I like knowing where they are and how to access them quickly and easily.

I have been shopping for mums, but always leave without any. I want a plant with more buds than blooms. It may already be too late.

My own plants may have to do.

Thank you for checking in, Dear One. I hope to get back to more regular blogging at some point. I have so enjoyed seeing all the autumn decor popping up in Blogdom these days. It is the longest season to decorate for, after all, lasting from September through November.

🍎 A  happy and blessed autumn to you!

It Was A Gift of a Day

So it was my daughter's birthday and, though the family had gathered to celebrate a few days early, she agreed to my plan for lunch on her actual day. Because she works full time and is taking three classes this semester, I wanted to keep it short and sweet so that she would have time for her schoolwork. I met her at her new home and we went out for lunch in her hometown.

At least two of the mums there were birthday gifts. And her front door swag is also a birthday gift from her friend Lindsay. I think Lindsay nailed it as far as Laurel's colors go.

The tree below is the one being reflected above.

Main Street

Just up the street from our restaurant

After our meal, I was chatting away like a magpie when Laurel took a different turn and soon we were off on a sightseeing tour. What a pleasant surprise! If you read this blog in autumn, you may remember that this is something Laurel and I have done each year for a few now.

Above us an eagle swooped and swirled on the thermals. Okay, you may have to trust me on this one.

On and on we went, one beautiful scene after the next.

Through small towns...

and back out into the countryside.

The only picture of the birthday girl

It was her birthday and she gave me the best gift of all: Time.  Thank you, Darling Girl! What a beautiful day it was.

P.S. This will probably end my foliage reports as the rain came and has taken many of our leaves. Now I'm counting on you to share your scenery!
