Spring Surprise

I do love a joke. Woke up to a great one!

Eight inches of new snow on the first day of spring. Hahahhahahaha...

It's official: we're buried in it.
Are we discouraged? No! We have our trusty sleds and will make the best of it.

Thanks to Teachers' Workshop days, I have the added benefit of some grandboys who will keep me hopping for the next two days. After sledding, we're pondering baking some gingerbread boys, if only we can talk Jake into not thinking of them as Christmas cookies.

Any snow in your corner? How about a haboob dust storm?

P.S. Thanks to all who participated in the Note Card Party. You brought spring and good cheer. When I was checking again last night, I saw how well you got around and visited one another and it truly warmed my heart.

  2. Wow Vee, that is a lot of snow! No snow here. Today will reach 65 and sunny, but......mid next week it gets colder again. Happy 1st day of Spring!

  3. Glad your not discouraged by the new snow fall. Have fun with those boys.
We had about 3 inches of snow when we woke up yesterday morning.

  4. Wow! Beautiful photos too.

It's warm here, and it has been near the mid 80s for weeks. Basically we skipped our "winter", and it's been the second warmest winter since they starting keeping records in the early 1900s.

  5. I love snow even though I'm so ready for spring. The weather has been up and down here, but it is March! I just try to make the most of it.

  6. Oh my!! Good thing your sense of humor is intact, Vee.
Enjoy your first day of spring and sledding with the boys.

  7. That is a cruel joke. Here's another one: it's mild, sunny, no wind, birds are pairing up and setting up territories ... absolutely GORGEOUS day in SE Georgia. Oh, and our first hummers are here!! YAY! I love, love, love hummingbirds. Anyway, have no fear. When it's mid-summer and we're all cooking in our juices you can brag about how nice it is there! *lol* Hope your days warm up soon. ~:)
PS: Pop by my blog today and take a gander and what I looked like in 1980. That'll keep the joke going!! :))

  8. I love your attitute, Vee! Why NOT enjoy it, right? I do hope that spring will finally reach your area very soon! It is gorgeous here today but I hear nastiness is right around the corner again early next week :( Maybe the Lord is just trying to remind folks that HE still is control of the weather, no matter how smart the meteorologists think they are!
Have fun with that snow and the gingerbread men!

  9. Wow...a lot of snow, and the first day of spring too! We have been having gorgeous weather here. About 72 degrees, nice, cool, gentle breezes, singing birds. And I am loving every minute of it as soon enough is will be a sizzling skillet with hot, dry, and scorching sun filled days with LARGE air conditioning bills, lol. Actually your day sounds fun to me...ENJOY!

  10. Thank goodness we did not have any more after last Sunday. I forgot the card party. A lot of family stuff going on. Couple of kids out of state on and off planes, new baby being born. All good things. I will enjoy the ones that did join. Thanks for hosting Vee and thanks for your visits.

  12. We had a dusting of snow this morning, but haven't had a beautiful snow like yours all winter long. Can you believe it?!

How wonderful to spend the entire day being able to show the boys how much fun the day will be. You are creating memories that they will forever remember.

  13. It does not compare but we had frost on the roofs and left over frozen hail on the deck that kind of looked like snow. It's cold out there but hallelujah the sun is shining! Have fun with the boys.

  14. That is just wrong! :( No snow here (thank goodenss!) but it's anything but Spring-like .... cold, blustery with a flurry or two. Enjoy your grands! :)

  15. Oh how tired you must be of snow! Reminds me so very much of Maine. You can probably look forward to a beautiful spring and summer however! Lovely photos!!!

  16. I better keep my mouth shut about the weather. You'll take me off your favorites list! haha! I still have a few more notecard blogs to visit. They were amazing this year! We should start a notecard business and make millions of dollars and go on cruises together and.....I better stop here! I'm a dreamer...don't you know! lol Sweet hugs!

  17. Oh yes, plenty of snow still here in my world. Actually it's only in the 20's today. I did see a blue bird yesterday so there's hope here Montana!!!

  18. We have bright sun but cool day here in Arkansas and no snow but it has been known to snow as late as April here. You and the boys have fun!

  19. Not to worry Vee, this phenomenon is actually not snow, it is called "Spring rain". Spring rain is often slightly thicker and whiter than regular rain and is known to disappear rather quickly. Snow CANNOT happen after the last day of winter. We will be seeing flowers soon. Hang in there, and Happy First Day of Spring!!!! ;>)

  20. Oh my you poor things , that stinks more snow ! I wish you spring temps and flowers very soon ! As my mum always said chins up chum and make the best of it . Have a good day with the grands ! Thanks for sharing .

  21. Ohhhhh Nooooo! We have all had our share of snow but your area is really taking the worst beating.
Our snow is almost melted. We had a light dusting this morning. It will be in the 50's tomorrow and then back to the cold again for the weekend. Hang in there, At least you have the boys there to cheer you up.

  22. Well some might not see that as a JOKE! But it's beautiful...us Southern CA gals just can't appreciate it. In my sleeveless top and sandals...I'm sorry...Just saying...HaHa
    Have fun with your grandboys.

  23. Vee,
Happy first day of Spring! I cannot say that I miss it one bit. Never thought I would leave Maine but life changes.

I really enjoyed the note card party and have started to think about the next one!

  24. OH MY GOSH!! Here, I am complaining (to anyone who will listen here at home, lol.) about the freezing rain and some snow..not much..just cold and wet (24*wc). Thanks for the fits of giggles over your Maine snow..sorry, Vee..I had to laugh or I would cry. Blessings

  25. Happy Spring Vee. We've had snow flurries today but not a big heap like yourself. At least it's keeping the boys occupied and gingerbread boys would be yummy with a hot chocolate after a few hours of sledding with granny. :-)

  26. Oh No! The winter that will never end. Have you read Laura Ingalls Wilder's The Long Winter this year? You could write your own version of the tale (which would likely be more lighthearted as I pause to think about the details of that story.) Enjoy sledding with the boys!

  27. No snow here, it is a gorgeous sunny day!!! We do have a wintry mix scheduled for next week.

  28. I hate to even tell you about our weather. It is sunny, warm and the flowers and trees are budding and some blooming. Hope your snow goes away soon.

  29. Welcome Spring! Yikes! 8 more inches! We are having a few mild days, but it's supposed to get cold again and perhaps another storm next week. I am not certain we will even have a hot summer, which is okay with me as long as we can grow a tomato or two!

  30. Oh my goodness Happy Spring :) We are in the 40's and melting but are supposed to be getting colder again :( Sap is slow this year and our first batch ruined, it had an off taste that we both were not happy about. We didn't want to chance it that it was bad for you and hopefully the boil tomorrow will bring better results.

  31. Oh no! Not more snow! We're having a cool, sunny 1st day of spring, but no snow. I keep reminding myself that we could have snow in March & even April.
I missed not being part of your March Note Party. Maybe I'll be ready to party in April.

    Smiles,
    Carol

  33. You have the best attitude ever!!! Spring will come - right???

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mother Nature sure does have a sense of humor. No snow or dust storms here. Bright & sunny, current temperature 57 degrees.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh My goodness. I am so tired of snow and we are suppose to get some next week, but not as much as you have right now.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No dust storm we are having dribbly rain here.
    Merle...........

  37. Do you and John have your own sleds? We are snow free (except for older piles of filthy snow that are too huge to melt!) but we may be getting some next week? Nothing is really blooming though, but the ants survived the polar vortex very well. They are making appearances already! xo

  38. I won't tell you how nice it was to sit outside in the sun today without a jacket on, because it's only a matter of time that I'll be complaining about the heat and humidity while you are telling us how nice it is in your neck of the woods! Also, it was also only just a few days ago when we had a little snow and who knows what tomorrow will bring. This is Missouri and March, so anything is possible. Have fun with the boys.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's a lot of snow for the first day of spring.
We had some frozen flurries this morning but nothing stuck. Very windy and cold - not very spring like.
Hope you had fun sledding with the grands. : )

  40. Hi Vee!

Eight inches on new snow?! Our snow is long gone but...yes, we did have a dust storm today! We had winds gusting up to 52 mph! We have wind warnings until 9:00 p.m.! March certainly is going out like a lion!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  41. SNOW ! ..my goodness.
We have had freezes out here in West Texas as late as April....but not 8 inches of snow. :)
Haboobs....YOU BET...we've had 2 really bad ones...post coming up soon.

  42. Oh, you got a lot of snow Vee! Thankfully we had less snow than was predicted, followed by rain which has made a slushy sloppy mess that will freeze footprints and tire tracks in place. Oh spring weather where art thou?? Enjoy those grandsons. Maybe you can build lots of snowmen. I must go visit a few more of the note card participants. Take care!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I woke up to rain. There are still piles of snow around though. I hope yours melts soon. There was a break-through of blue sky and sun this afternoon. I have hope.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh dear. Eight more inches. That seems like a great deal of snow to this Marylander (even though we had six inches on Monday).

Enjoy your days with Jake and Sam! You're storing up good memories!

    ReplyDelete
  45. LOL- My post tomorrow is about just that- Winter In Wisconsin- Oh- Yeah! God has a sense of humor! xo Diana

  46. Hope spring finds you soon, Vee! We've had some spring-like weather but may get a little snow Monday. As Diana says, God has a sense of humor!
