Of Angels and Gargoyles and Vacations and More

A bunch of Thursdays ago at the end of July, I was in Freeport (flagship store of L.L.Bean) to meet my blogging friend Linda of Sew What and her husband Art. They were in the state to visit Bar Harbor.

I am so glad that they did not allow the foul weather reports ruin their trip because they enjoyed a fabulous week. (There hasn't been any better one in the month since.) I read about their vacation on Linda’s Instagram account. Hope that she’ll share her wonderful Bar Harbor photos on her blog so that you can see them, too. (Her Instagram account is private as is mine.)

You may remember that my last meet was quite recent (the post before this) and that every meet is fraught with troubles. This meet was no exception as I drove for miles in a miserable downpour. Further, Linda and I could both write a post about how not to do a meet. We were both at our destination, but we had failed to give one another cell phone numbers and email wasn't working out so well. They waited far too long a time when I was there. (They arrived ahead of time.) I had told Linda to look for the Hobbit from the Haven and...goodness I missed that description...it was more like the deranged gargoyle from the haunted castle. Wow. I did look a fright. 😳

Nevertheless, the deranged gargoyle did not seem to faze them and we exchanged pleasantries and gifts. I received a very special gift in the form of one of Linda’s angels made from my brother-in-law’s two wives’ wedding gowns. True. You figure it out!

↑This was where the Blessings Angel landed at my wee haven. In her new incarnation, she lives once again with my sister and her husband. My sister was so tickled with her. She said that the angel was not just going to be an angel on the Christmas tree. She'd be an angel all year around. ↓

The angel was not all... Tea towels, a candle, tea time napkins and more. I have been enjoying my gifts, Lin. Have you seen them showing up at Instagram?

As we “meet people” say, meeting someone you have known through blogging or even Instagram is as pleasant and easy as can be. Linda was a delight with her gentle sense of humor and her husband is a dear and patient man. Time flies and all too soon it is over.

Art and Linda

My nod to their Bar Harbor vacation. ッ

Thank you so much for everything, Dear Ones! If you ever visit Bar Harbor again...

  2. Vee, I love the description of the day and the meeting--Gargoyles and hobbits and angels! I will put on my thinking cap to figure out the wedding gowns of your brother-in-law's two wives wedding gowns?! Glad you were able to meet up with another fellow blogger in spite of the weather. ♥

  4. What fun to meet Linda! Her creations are absolutely so lovely, as is Linda. I gifted Linda a teacup in one of Stephanie's exchanges, and we have been friends since. Thank you for sharing the Blessings angel, which will live happily in your sister's home.

  10. How wonderful that you could meet! But I am so sorry that you had to drive to Freeport in such miserable rain. Your deranged gargoyle description has had me chuckling from time to time ever since you first employed it in a comment on my "Whirlwind Weekend" post. I'm finding it hard to picture how a pretty gal like you could ever fit that description!

What lovely gifts Linda brought you, especially those rosemary flour sack towels. Of late I have seen the flour sacks in some lovely designs.

I had noticed in a few of Linda's Instagram posts from Bar Harbor that the weather seemed to be great there while it was raining like crazy here. They were blessed indeed!

  12. Sounds like an adventure dear Vee but one that ended well. It is so delightful to meet a blogging friend isn't it? We have had our share of rain as well Vee. It has been an unusual wet summer for us. But I see all the fires and I think how blessed we are for the rain. Have a great day. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  16. What fun to meet your blog friends. You feel as if you already know them and so there isn't that awkwardness that sometimes happens. You are so fortunate to have met more than one!

  17. You get to meet a lot of blog friends! How fun that is! I laughed at the "deranged gargoyle" description, done with much literary licence on the part of the author, I think. The angel is lovely and looks very at home on your sister's mantel. The other gifts are also pretty ones.

  19. I think I need a gargoyle in my new yard...when I have a new yard. I would have had a frantic look with the drive and no communication. I can get quite frantic. You are a blog meet trooper.

  22. You are so good at being a friend! I still am amazed when I see how many comments you have but I shouldn't be because you take the time to chat with your friends on their blogs. I usually just read and click out of them! :(

  23. Dear Vee,
It was such a pleasure to meet you despite the torrential downpours and missed communication that we were already inside while you were still waiting for us in the parking lot! Lol! Though our meeting was brief it was a highlight of my summer and rereading your post put a smile on my face and made me laugh out loud. You did not look like a hobbit nor a deranged gargoyle! I have a photo of you and I sitting together to prove it! :) I have a blog post partly done about our lunch meeting and I hope to get that up this week. I have been enjoying my sweet gifts and the lovely doily is on my diningroom table. So glad the blessings Angel has a special place of her own! Love and blessings Vee! Linda

  24. What a nice meeting and lovely gifts to receive from your blog friend, Vee. A friend of mine had her wedding dress made into baptismal gowns for her two daughters, and I thought that was so clever, but this angel comes a close second!
We visited Bar Harbor the year after we were married so many years ago while we drove through all the New England states on vacation one October to see the foliage! What a thrill it was to visit Maine! The first lobster dinner of my life was at a little restaurant in Maine and I'll never forget it.
It is 57 degrees here today--autumn is in the air!

  26. How nice to meet another blogger! And one bearing gifts! I've met two bloggers, both from the UK, both guys, and I did not take them gifts. LOL I think I'd be much more nervous about meeting women.

  27. ...back by to say that you are right...we will never quit missing them....we just have to learn to live with it. I am still having a hard time...some days are just awful...more days are better than the sad ones. I really am trying not to be a cry baby or dwell on my loss...but sometimes, right in the middle of a conversation, I just lose it. If I keep myself busy, I do a whole lot better...I hope you are doing ok...I think of you so often...you are strong and I wish I could be strong, too. Everything is HARD...hard to remember to change the oil in my car...hard to open bottles that he always opened for me...hard to keep my feelings to myself so I won't make our kids sad and worry about their mama...hard to decide what to eat or which tv show to watch....it is all getting better, tho.
I surely am thankful for family...I don't know how folks get thru such a loss without God and family...and friends. xoxo
I still can't get my blog comments in my email...blogger says they are working on the problem. Wish they would leave well enuf alone when things work just fine.(bitch bitch bitch...lol)

  28. Hi Vee!

Wonderful that you met one of your blogging friends! Somehow it always works out, thank goodness!

What a beautiful angel...nothing like a heartfelt gift to warm your heart.

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

  29. Okay, I know one is not to be jealous, but I have to be honest {since one is not supposed to lie either}....I am just a teeny tiny bit of jealous of you and Linda meeting one another. BOTH of you are such DEAR and PRECIOUS ladies. I can imagine the two of you, along with Art, had a most enjoyable time. Thank you, dear Vee, for sharing your special time with us. And oh, what a pretty angel Linda made for you. I have a few ov her creations in my home and I can say that she pours a lot of love into what she makes.

Hugs to you, dear one! And thank you for the delightful visit to my blog today.
