Inspiration

The title was going to be "CopyCat," but I like to think that it became more than that.

Yesterday, my friend Deanna wrote a post titled "Country Home" where she gathered some favorite photos to illustrate her points. One of those photos absolutely spoke to me. I admired it a lot often returning to it time and again throughout the day. Finally, I thought Why can't I use that photo to create something similar here in my home. I had some of the same elements. Certainly not all, but some.

This was the inspiration photo:

I had a basket...

I had a wooden box...

I had a tea pot...

I had pattern...

I had book piles and a tea cup...

I had shiny objects...

Of course, there were many lovely elements in that room that I did not have. *I loved the pop of blue on the bookshelf below the windows...nope, could not find anything like that. My chair, in comparison to the one in Deanna's photo, is large and cumbersome, which is why I did not shift it for the smaller chair that might have worked better. Either way, no delightful pattern like the chair or its two pillows. Yes, I did look at that photo very closely.

In the end, this is what I posted on Instagram this morning.

Now, I don't think that I'll be able to get away with a small table of books in the middle of my room for long, but other than that, I think that this is my look until I run into another inspiration photo.

Just the right touch of blue!

A big thank you to Mrs. T from Across My Kitchen Table as I now have my touch of blue. She says that she found this at her parents' home. I am honored to have it here. It really catches the light.

  1. What fun! I think we could all use some inspiration at this time of year. If it involves a stack of books, a cup of tea and a comfy chair count me in. I think you nailed the look. Now hopefully you can sink into that chair and enjoy some quality reading time.

  3. Wow, Vee! I absolutely love what you did here. Wonderful!

Now I admired the same photo but did absolutely nothing about it. But I could ... I absolutely could. There are many elements in that room that I don't have, but realistically there are so many that I do.

    Now YOU have inspired ME.

And I noticed a Marjorie Standish cookbook in your book pile. I have one by her also (not the same one) and I love her style.

Have a happy day. Much snow there?

  4. I love it. I like it when we use things as inspiration, not as making you feel less than. Great post Vee.

  7. I saw your IG photo and loved it. It looked so cozy and inviting. You won't find any inspiration in my home today, however I hope to be "there" someday soon. Purging my kitchen today of un-needed, unused, and expired items. Utilizing my cupboard space better. Thanks for the inspiration today Vee.

  19. You are, indeed, very observant of the details! Both the magazine photo and your home look very cozy on a cold winter day like this (yes, even pretty chilly here in Jax today). I like what you've done -- reminds me of a show on HGTV years ago where people would do their best to copy a photo of a room for their house. It was always amazing to me how they managed to create the room of their dreams like that.

  24. What an inviting room! I love the natural light coming through the window. And it's all about creating a feeling in a room when you feel inspiration from other sources. You did great! Stay warm and cozy tonight! I like your warm throw on the chair!

  26. Hi Vee~

What a gorgeous, cozy spot, I really love it and I think you got very close to it. I have always loved your green corduroy furniture, and it works beautifully for this, inspiration! You definitely got the "cozy" factor right. Donna's blog is really beautiful, thank you for sharing. I love that she takes things she already has and decorates her home...that's my kind of decorating as well.

Stay warm and have a great rest of your week!

    Hugs and Love,
    Barb

What a cozy space with so many warm and lovely touches inspired by your inspiration photo!! I love the stack of books and the Friendly Village cup and saucer. That is inviting! It looks like the perfect place to cozy up until this frigid weather is past.

  28. The space you created looks like such a cozy place to read. I've been trying to create a little reading corner in my house as well, but I haven't quite finished it up yet.

  29. That reading nook looks so lovely given your special touches Vee. I can picture you there sipping a cuppa and reading a great book - and looks like you have plenty to choose from!

  30. That corner is delightful and I am not surprised that you were inspired....Of course, the sunshine pouring in and the green leaves outside are part of it! But you did a lovely job finding things in your home to pull together to achieve that feeling. Of course, I am interested, especially, in the titles of the books!

  32. I saw your stack of books on IG and wondered how it wouldn't be knocked over, but it is so cute. Now that I've read the post I understand. I think you did a good job finding similar things. Nothing like a little inspiration. Your home is so, so cozy--I place a high value on that!

  38. I think your room looks every bit as cozy warm and inviting, Vee. I'd love to snuggle into that comfy chair with a good book and "sit a spell"..

  40. You Go Girl! such an awesome job! So cozy and inviting,I dare not take any photos around here for now, I was late taking my Christmas decorations down, since having family into the new year! My house looks plum naked, I have looked and stared at my empty mantel, but just can't seem to find something that tickles my fancy. We have been so busy with lambing, and with temps. in the 80's last week, I was out in my garden. Oh well, maybe this week, as we are back to cold again.
So glad you are feeling fit as a fiddle now!
Thanks for coming by, and speaking of memory I had begun to take notes, but would forget where I had placed my note pad, what's a body to do?
Loved the Teddy bear story, tell Sam I still play with teddy bears!
    Love
    Sue
    Have a blessed evening.

  42. Well Vee, I really am a nitwit. I distinctly remember reading this post when it first came out, and I'm sure I remember leaving a comment for you, but apparently not. Note to self: Eat more brain food.

Vee, I love, love this inspiration photo and can see why it captured your interest. Years ago, I received a Laura Ashley catalog, and it had this wonderful room in an English country house, and I've never forgotten that room. Would love to re-create it here.

You did a great job making your own version of this room. The first thing that caught my attention was the windows in the photo. I think I've told you before that I love your windows with the surrounding bookshelves. So you already had a great foundation to build on.

My favorite things in your room are of course the windows, the books, the cozy throw on your chair, the picnic basket, and your Friendly Village teapot and teacup. Love the picture of the sunbeam across your chair; the afternoon sun comes into our den that way. How kind of Mrs. T to send you the blue glass mug.

Enjoy your cozy spot, Vee, and thanks for sharing with us!!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor
