A Haven for Vee

Early November

Can I get away with saying hello and just tossing in a few pictures? I know, I might as well move to Instagram for good. What's the point of blogging without words

Shabby 2019
Freshly painted former year

I need to up my upkeep game, though for obvious reasons, I was not able to this year. My sister made the large bittersweet wreath for me. She even rounded up the bittersweet from her daughter's yard. My niece is not very happy with the way the bittersweet is taking over the world in her yard and I was duly warned about not putting it anywhere I didn't want to see it growing. I shall have to be careful. I never put it behind the house that's for certain.

around the outside lamp

tucked into the apothecary

the mustard and deep purple leaves were so pretty in combination...all gone now...

Trying to disguise a tired sofa with a ten dollar throw from Wal*Mart. It's working for now...

You wouldn't know that you had visited if there were no windowsill photo. The very last rose delighted me and is still blooming yet. I hope that all is well with you. I am happily in my good week and I am trusting that next week will be good, too.

Thanks for popping by. Have a great day!

  4. I have a fake bittersweet wreath on my back door. Does that count? I love the throw on your sofa. It looks all ready to snuggle up on a cold day. And as always I look forward to the window picture. Enjoy your good week and I hope you have many more good weeks to come. (How well I remember that time even though it's been years ago.)

  5. I always breathe a sigh of relief when you are say you are having one of your good weeks. I know you suffer so much. You've done a lot more decorating for Fall than I have. I LOVE bittersweet and the wreath is gorgeous! Enjoy your day my friend. Keeping you in my prayers...always!

  6. So happy to know that you're in your good week! Looking at the two photos of your front entrance reminds me that we never know what changes will take place from one year to the next. We can only trust our Father to walk with us! No surprises for Him!

I love what you've done with your bittersweet! It's so pretty; it's hard to imagine that it can be a pest, but I've heard enough to believe that it is so. Your place looks beautiful to me . . . in all the nooks and crannies you've shared!

    As always, praying for you!!

  8. You've decorated beautifully, Vee. I once planted bittersweet in my backyard on the pasture fence. My hubby thought it was a weed and cut it down! I hope you are feeling well and that the treatment is effective and tolerable. Praying for you. Beth

  9. Any method you prefer to communicate is fine with me, although I always enjoy your wonderful way with words :).
The bittersweet wreaths look lovely and the placement is perfect. Over the weekend Brett & I were walking through the woods and I told him to be on the lookout for bittersweet as I would love some to decorate with. The problem with that plan is that I think he is clueless when it comes to bittersweet and if it exists around here I've never seen it in the 20 years I've been here. Oh well, I guess it can't hurt to try.
So happy to hear that you are enjoying a good week. May you have many more of them.

  10. I love your ‘shabby chic’ 2019 porch and those beautiful leaves! No pretty colors for Texas or at least for my neck of the woods! Leaves here are either green or brown.
You can do wordless any time! I love knowing you are there and seeing what you see. Love you, Vee!

  12. Oh I love that bittersweet. I have never heard of it I don't guess but sure would love to have some to make me a pretty wreath. I love the grit and grace cup with the floral. So pretty. Is that Rosemary I smell in that cup? I pray for LOTS of good...great....days for you dear Vee. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  13. The bittersweet wreath sure is pretty.
    Your porch looks welcoming.
    Enjoyed seeing all the pictures.
However you chose to blog is just fine with me, please just keep on blogging!!

  14. Like everyone, I love the bittersweet wreath! We don't have much of it growing here. Your lovely afghan is perfect on your sofa. I'm so happy to hear this is a good week, my friend! I'm praying for more good weeks ahead.

  15. I would love to have bittersweet taking over my yard! She could sell it online ...it goes for big bucks! I was going to buy some but it was like $17 for a little bit. I used to have it for free on my farm but now I'm down in AR and I haven't seen any. Lucky you! Yes, have another good week on me!

  16. Keeping you in my prayers. I'm so glad this is one of your good weeks and you're able to enjoy it. I love what you've done with the bittersweet. I have some, too, but it's artificial. It looks great no matter where I put it.

  17. Oh no, don't stop blogging! Your bittersweet wreath is very pretty. I don't think we have it in our neck of the woods - or I've never seen it. I love the Gather pillow on your sofa. Glad you are feeling good this week and I hope that feeling lingers on and on. Praying for you.

  18. Your autumn decorating gives such a warm and cozy feeling to your world, Vee. I think I need to do more now, though I do have my grandmother's wild turkey plates up on the hutch cupboard. I am so glad to hear you are having a good week. I am keeping you in my prayers. Be well!

  19. I had no idea bittersweet was so invasive! I kept thinking "one of these days we will plant bittersweet." I am happy now I put it off, yikes. I knew mint was, didn't know about bittersweet. Sure is neat looking though

Love your wreath your sweet sister made you - and your pretty windowsill pic.

    Hugs.

  20. Its all looking cozy at your Haven! I love the bittersweet wreath and the few touches you have with it inside! Didn't know it was invasive, so I'll stick to faux bittersweet!

We have a furniture situation here, old, used and it needs to be replaced. But we are following Dave Ramsey's program so those replacements will need to be saved up for! Which is okay with me, but it needs to be done, cause we have a broken chair, and old, torn, low chair, and a broken loveseat recliner. Makes your worn couch seem okay doesn't it? (grin)

  21. Aargh! I laboriously typed a comment using the tablet, only to have it disappear. Let's see if I can remember at least part of it.

So happy to hear that you are enjoying a good week. I pray that in the near future all of your weeks will be good ones!

Your couch looks identical to ours, and ours is also quite worn. We are its third owners!

Bittersweet ... your wreath and decorations are beautiful! It is the essence of fall to me. To my mind, the worst of its invasiveness is that it strangles trees. We have a number of trees in our area with no leaves at all, but so much bittersweet that they look like "bittersweet trees". My daughter has a tree in her yard that a bittersweet vine has wrapped around and literally cut into the bark. That said, I still love it, still cut it, still decorate with it and I haven't noticed any around my yard ever. On the way home from the veterans cemetery Monday, I noticed a car with the hatch open, stopped by the roadside. A lady was busily engaged in clipping branches of bittersweet! I enjoyed seeing that.

  22. Don't stop blogging. I'm not into Instagram. Love the display in your apothecary jar. We don't have bittersweet around these parts, but they do sound invasive. Oh, and I love how that long pillow jazzed up your couch. It looks quite perky.

Glad it's a good week for you. Hope for a good one next week too.

    Happy day... Brenda xox

  24. Vee, it all looks so warm and inviting! Please don't give up the blog for Instagram--I'm not on Instagram and never will be. Glad you're having a good week.

  25. Happy to hear you are in your good week. Things are looking cozy at your place. I am really learning to embrace Wal-Mart. When we lived on the "Coast" I never went to Wal-Mart. I am in a busy week and things are just going to get busier. So I'll just take joy in the fulness of these times. I've got a few more planters to clear out for winter. I always wonder what will come back after I get harsh with the dead plants. Keep blogging please dear Vee.

  26. I love the look of bittersweet! We got a second round of snow yesterday and still have leaves on the trees. Such a cold November! Glad to hear about your good week :)

  28. Pretty, pretty...I'm still fooling around with the blog--I have a new one...but honestly, nothing is working...so, I'll just leave it at my comment, I'll let you know, smiles.

  29. I love this post. What a delight it is to visit your beautiful home! I have often admired bittersweet wreaths at fall craft fairs, but have never brought one home. I don't know why because I like them so much. I also didn't realize it is such an invasive plant.

  30. It looks very peaceful there! I hope you are feeling well and getting stronger, Vee! My daughter is facing serious surgery so my computer time has been erratic lately. I will most likely have to take a blog break when she has the surgery--will blog about it then--as for now still blogging about Alaska as it is helping to keep my mind off things and helping to make me edit my photos...lol. Our autumn disappeared with all the snow we've been having but today it is 70 degrees! Then it is expected to snow on Monday. Colorado always keeping us guessing!

  31. How wonderful to have all that bittersweet. It's almost disappeared here due to lots of farms and land for crops. I haven't been blogging much, but hope to get back to it. Seems that my time is consumed with volunteer projects and my mother's estate. I think of you often. Have a new tea and wanted to share with you, but read you have plenty!

  32. So sorry I am late to the party! I really need to get with it...I seem to be having trouble keeping up with read AND writing blogs the last few weeks. Your home looks like a place a of quiet rest...so comfy and cozy. And I will gladly take some of that bittersweet off your hands....you can't find it around here much. Oh, and one more thing, please DON'T STOP BLOGGING!. I just am having the hardest time keeping up my Instagram.....gotta use my words too!

  33. Hi Vee,

I echo what Debby said about being late to the party. I'm having trouble keeping up, too; I need to quit finding new hobbies. ;) How are you? I hope you are having a good week!!

I enjoyed your pics very much! May I say that I just LOVE that color of green on your front door?! I want a new color for our front door; it is just so tired and boring -- has been for quite some time now. Your gifted bittersweet was lovely and so autumnal. I have gotten pieces from the Blue Ridge Parkway and from my mother-in-law in the past, but haven't had any lately. I'm glad to know that it's so invasive; I'll know better than to plant any here. Yes, we do look forward to your windowsill shots -- love the combination of flowers and plants in your mug. :D

Thanks so much for your visit yesterday; it was greatly appreciated!! Is it cold where you are? It's cold and wet here today, so I'm staying in. Have a good week my friend, and stay strong!

    Love and hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor
