A Haven for Vee

Goodbye, August

Oh I do hate to say goodbye to August. Still,  my sister and I and her grands will squeeze out every drop. We are planning a picnic today between rain showers. It probably means eating at Mickey D's and hoping for a bit of clear sky to sail some boats.

Earlier in the month, we made it to my daughter's home for the last time. She sold her cabin on the Carrabassett and has already moved into her new home. I hated to say goodbye to that place, too, but Laurel is happy and content.

(Sorry so small. Nothing cooperates with me anymore.)

Have a blessed final day of August. Here's to a splendid September!

Love,
Vee

  1. I am sad to say goodbye to August also. It seemed to go by so fast! But I do love September. I always have a special dinner on the first and look forward to the cooler weather and the beautiful colors. But I do miss the summer months. That pool looks wonderful. Wish I was there to enjoy it.

  2. The end of August seems to spell the end of the freedom of summer days. But not this year, for me! Summer is so fleeting, but September can often be a lovely month. I'm off for a day at the lake with three grands and one daughter. Good times!
A pool is the perfect place to enjoy hot days, and your sister has the right idea! I'm assuming it's your sister's pool and grands.

    1. No, it was my daughter's pool and it, of course, was sold with the house. They are my sister's grands.

  3. It is always bittersweet to see the summer come to an end. I do hope the rain doesn't put a damper on your picnic plans. Although, I feel sure the grands would be happy with the Mickey D's part of the plan.
Oh, I do remember Laurel's place. I can see why you hated to see it go. Glad to hear that she is happy with her new home.

  4. Like you, Vee, I'm dragging my feet about saying goodbye to August. It's been such a lovely month. Glad you've squeezing out the last juicy moments before the calendar page gets turned. It's a beautiful sunny day again, gonna be in the low 80s, and the air is balmy and calm. Even the birds are quiet today, except for a few chickadees.

Wishing you a beautiful day and a wonderful month ahead.

  5. Hi Vee~ August has been so hot here that I am glad to see it leave...unfortunately, the first week of September is going to record breaking heat. Can't win for losing! It's funny how fleeting summer can be, but the seasons go by so quickly, it will be here again before we know it! Good luck to, Laurel is happy with her new place, change can sometimes be a good thing. Enjoy this last day of August. Hugs, Barb

  6. Not me - I'm sick of hot weather. The temps won't magically disappear, tomorrow but at least I know cooler temps are coming. We need rain so bad, and the Fall begins our rainy season, that we so desperately need.

Enjoy your last day of August!

  7. I'm glad you have enjoyed summer, Vee. It's been so oppressive here I must admit to being glad it will soon be Autumn.
Your daughter's pool looks like a great spot to cool off during these hot, humid days.

  8. Hope the weather cooperated for you. That water looks so refreshing. It was cool here today, never made it out of the 60's but it was sunny and beautiful.

  9. Good for you for making the most of August even between rain showers. Glad you could have a last hurrah at Laurel's, too. Greg and Dan made one last run to the forest to fell some more trees for firewood. They made record time this time around for which we are all thankful. We are counting down the days for our trip to England. We are still waiting to see if we and our luggage will actually make it all the way across the pond. Such unsettling times we live in. Praise the Lord for HIs dependability and faithfulness in our lives. May your September be splendid, too!

  10. If I lived where you do - August might well be my favorite month! Alas, in Texas it is not a good one and I always hunker down and wait for the hot triple digit days to end. There's a flower here called Snow on the Prairie and when I see it - I know the intense heat is near its end. I saw it last week in the country and now it's all over the place. It's a wildflower so you only see it in the fields. When Amber was a synchro swimmer, I would see it up at Northlake College where she practiced and where I would walk while she swam. It's always been a moment I look forward to - seeing those white flowers and knowing our weather would become more friendly.

  11. So how did your final excursion of August play out? Looks like you made good use of Laurel's pool while you could. Did she move closer to your place? Enjoy September!

  12. Hi dear old friend. Been a while, sorry, life been challenging for me lately. I will save it for another time. Just wanted to say goodbye to August but goodbye to time itself. It is moving so fast I am in a bit of shock - though I have been told since childhood it would be so. Just one must get to a certain age to fully comprehend it's swiftness.

I wish you well and every happiness. God bless. Hugs.

  14. Are those pool pictures from her old home, or her new one? I think from her old one, from which she will soon be moving, I guess.

I just noticed a comment, a couple up.... That life has been challenging for that blogger. Mmmmmmmmm... Yessssss.... There's a lot of that *Challenging,* going around.

    3 Cheers for September!!!!

Time for apple pies.... Lovely days and cool nights..... Coming cozy time...

    Gotta' think positively!!!!!!!

  16. And a very happy end of summer to you as well, Vee, and it sounds as if you and your family will see it out well. Like others who commented, I too will be glad for cooler temps as this New England summer heat has not been welcomed.

  17. I am a mixed bag when it comes to summer's end. I am eager to welcome fall, but do feel a sense of disappointment at how quickly the year is speeding by. I appreciate that you squeeze all the fun you can get out of summer. That is a good way to live.

  18. Thank you for stopping by and for your encouragement, I am taking your advice and trying not to rush as I try and catchup. ha ha! I still have fall veggies and fruits to preserve, and it is still quite warm, thankful for less humidity!
See you soon, keep blogging!~wink, smile~

  19. As we all know, I am an Autumn and winter girl...sadly, moving back to the sunshine state, I probably won't get all that, LOL. Aww on Laurel selling her place, I had no idea. I am glad though she is settled in her new place, is it still far from you? Just wondering, smiles

    1. Six miles closer...I just checked. The good thing about the new home is that I can hop on the Interstate. Her town actually has an exit. Hopefully, I will be able to visit in September and do a post on her new situation.

  20. Hi Vee!

I'm sorry I'm late to the party; I've been away from the blog for a few weeks. It sounds like you're in one of the few places that had mild temperatures this summer, and I see why you hate to say good-bye to August. However, it's been very hot here since early June, and I'm ready to move on. :D I love the family photos you've shared today. I'm sorry that Laurel sold her cabin but glad to hear she is happy in her new abode.

I hope all is well with you -- have a great week!!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  21. As much as I adore autumn and look forward to it every year, a small part of me is always sad to see summer end. I am never sad to have the heat and humidity move on, but there is just something special about the "feeling" of summer. I am glad that you have spent some happy summer days picnicking and poolside and sharing days with your dear ones. So Laurel has left her cottage and pool? But if you say that she is content, then all is well and you'll make new memories in her new place! Happy September to you, Vee!

  22. I am late getting around. August was always a big month for us...birthdays, anniversaries, and it seems like we moved frequently in the month of August over the years. But I won't miss the heat and dryness of August. September came in with a lot of rain and hopefully the temperatures are going to start coming down a bit inch by inch. I am an autumn person and really barely tolerate the summer...but I live in Florida. Summers can be brutal here. Anyway, I understand autumn is different for you because it is the last hurrah before winter sets in. And I know how long and dark and cold those winters in Maine/NH can be. That's why I'm back in Florida. LOL. Oh, I see from another comment that your daughter's new home is a bit closer to you and easier to get to, so that is a plus. I know we hate change, but sometimes change is good. I am learning to go with the flow and let God handle the details. Life is much more simple that way. Have a blessed September!!!
