A Haven for Vee

One Incredibly Lazy Blogger

Of course, I am speaking of myself. I am blaming the cold, bitter cold of winter that has returned for my hunkering down under the blankets reading political commentary and fascinating things like that. The wind howls and I sink lower. I often don't even bother with meals, but today I made this treat for my afternoon snack.

Appetizing, say what? I'll let you wonder what it might be. Do you ever make this snack? It's a lot faster than baking a cookie!

🍪 🍪 🍪
Earlier in the week, I started on a tutorial for my method of making bowl cozies because I make them differently from any tutorials that I have seen.

I had fabrics and scissors and cutting mats and starch and padding and all manner of discussion on techniques, stitch length, etc. So sorry because I know that you're all hanging by a thread here, but I just didn't have the wherewithal to see it through.

Apparently, even the cactus is feeling lazy. One bloom. Just one. There'll be no more. I'm not sure whether to celebrate the one blossom or bin her for being a loafer.

If I can drag myself to your place, I'll be by later. If not, feel free to bin me for being a loafer.

Update: Okay, not thinking clearly here this morning. (Must be the new snow.) If I had been thinking clearly, I would not have closed comments before I could make some thanking all those who took a guess on what exactly is on that slice of toast up there. There were many fun guesses from apricot jam to cinnamon sugar to apple butter. Anyway, unbeknownst to you, I was having myself a little contest to see who would guess correctly. I expected that I would have to draw names from a hat. Guess what? I don't. Only one person guessed correctly. Some persons did not hazard a guess at all. So what is on that toast?

Brown sugar. That's right. Just that simple. And no fancy concoction of it or broiling of it either. Just butter your toast as per usual and liberally sprinkle on the brown sugar and  press it on there with a knife as you would anything else. Hey! Don't knock it until you have tried it because it is yummy.

So who is that one person to get it right? Mrs. T that's who! I am not sure what sort of happy mail she will be receiving, but some little something~something.

  2. Your snack looks yummy. I would imagine that cold howling wind would slow me down too. I read someone write a blog post about winter being a time for rest. I felt better about winter after reading her post. I can't remember where it was or I would share it with you. Spring is coming.

  3. Vee, your toast and jam (I think) looks yummy. Or maybe it's apple butter? Sending you sunny days filled with more energy. I think sometimes we just need to hibernate a little. ♥

  4. Morning Vee,
Is that applesauce on toast? LOL! If you only lived a bit closer, I would have shared my scones with you! I know what you mean about feeling lazy in this cold weather. It's 13 degrees right now and the wind is still howling...:( I had to force myself up yesterday to bake those scones. I was hungry and they were mighty comforting! But then again, I love toast so toast totally would've done the trick too! Things should be looking up soon...I hope! If not, I'll make you some scones....they just won't be very warm when you receive them. Linda

  5. Well your toast looks REALLY yummy to me no matter what it is that you've got on there. We had a tiny little storm here the last couple of days and it is definitely "chilly" here this morning for us. I think it was 48 when I got up this morning. But heating up to 69. A perfect day in my opinion. And I will enjoy it...because the scorching heat will come and I will long for these days. I had myself a very lazy day yesterday, and I don't have the howling wind for an excuse either. Have a good day!

  6. Its the gloomies from winter hanging on!

    Your treat looks tasty!

  7. Hmmm...ya didn't tell us what that little treat was. Something on toast? That's a fancy sewing machine. I would hunker down if the weather was howling at me, too. So just when I would benefit from it raining because I didn't have a dryer and my hair is weird, I have no excuse. Rainy head hair is acceptable around these parts. We are finally getting some sunshine today. Sunshine and weird hair...

  8. Apple butter? Apricot jam? Or possibly a mixture of brown sugar and butter, spread on and toasted, as the Betty Crocker Boys & Girls Cookbook used to suggest? (That book had a whole array of ideas for toast toppers. And they always looked so tempting to me!) No matter what you have on that toast, it looks delicious!

The wind! Predictions yesterday were for gales up to 50 mph, and I have no trouble believing we had some of those. Our neighbor across the street had a pine tree and a hemlock come down on utility wires and start to smolder. The power company spent about an hour parked in our driveway, with a man up in the bucket cutting off tree limbs and one on the ground moving them to the snowbank. Our mailbox was a casualty of the operation, but Mr. T has some time off and so it was back up and running in time for the mailman this morning.

If it's any comfort, I feel lazy too ... think it's the cold and the wind, plus getting up so infernally early for weeks ... and the time change ... and, in your case, the ever-present snow. Also, I'm sure you probably needed the rest. So tell yourself, "I need the rest!" and then set about enjoying it. Don't waste time feeling guilty for what you're not accomplishing. (This is the voice of experience speaking here.)

Yes, that IS a fancy sewing machine. When I saw your bowl covers in an earlier post, I thought it looked as if they were done using a serger. I don't own such a contraption, so will be figuring out a different way to make mine, assuming I actually get to doing so! I would love to read your tutorial, though.

Hope you are enjoying your time with your dad today ...

  9. Toast with applesauce or pumpkin butter? Yesterday we had a heavy snowstorm, but only 2 inches of snow. Today it's going to be almost 50°. The unpredictable weather is great ~ change of seasons and flowers to enjoy in another month or a bit longer. I think it gave you one big beautiful bloom and perhaps next blooming cycle will bring you many.

  10. oh poor Vee....you need the cold and snow to vanish....the sunshine will be on your shoulders before you know it....I think that may be cinnamon toast! warm hugs for your weekend!

  12. HAHA....love that post! I understand, I have been getting a tad lazy myself the last couple of days! Cloudy looking out and I kind of want to curl up under my soft blanket on the couch and watch tv, play on the computer while I cross stitch and pet my dog! Enjoy your down time.

  13. yes, I bake so many cookies....and sometimes I just want a piece of toast with lots of butter and honey!!!

  14. Your snack, I cannot figure out what it is, looks comforting and perfect for dispelling a few of the winter gloomies.
I'm feeling rather sluggish these days, too. Spring is here, but it's the cold-wind-and- grey-skies type.

  15. Love toast with grape jelly, peanut butter, cinnamon, or just good old butter. I'd rather have toast than a biscuit. Well, now I need to see this cozie! LOL! It is suppose to rain today in my neck of the woods and we need some rain. Stay hunkered down Vee and eat some more toast. Sounds good to me. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  16. I'm lazy every day, no matter the weather. Gettin' older is my excuse. And I can hardly tear myself away from the computer, especially the past couple of days with the new revelations coming out in the political world. What do you think about it all? :)

    1. I think we have a wonderful President and a filthy mainstream press and a corrupt political system that goes far DEEPER than we can even imagine. 😳

  17. At least you got one. I have cacti everywhere here in Oklahoma and they don't do anything. It irritates me lol. I want a blooming one too.

  18. I think this continuing cold weather is making us all lazy. I too just want to "hunker down," stay warm and read. I hope spring arrives soon! Your cactus bloom is lovely! Maybe you'll get a few more to tide you over until things perk up outside

  19. I have a feeling that when spring arrives, it will add a spring to your step. Winter has gone on so long for you. I'd be under the covers too. Take care of yourself and eat toast! It looks delicious.

  20. Is that cinnamon toast? I haven't had that in ages and it sounds so good! Laziness has it's place, said the blogger who posts about once a month....Ahem. Hunker down and enjoy the rest, Spring is coming and you'll feel right as rain :)

  21. Thank you, Vee, for always being so real...so down to earth...so earnest in your replies to people.
I have been wishing I had a little down time myself. Right now I am helping someone get their house ready for sale. I took my own dinette chairs there to loan them so we could set up a real dining room. lol Next week I will rest....uh-huh....

I get that 'feeling lazy' thing. You can do that bowl cozy for next year- winter is almost over anyway...there---now you are off the hook! xo Diana

  22. Your snack looks yummy. And your cacti bloom is so pretty. I've felt sluggish a few days myself, but today I felt quite bright and alive, so I'm making 'hay' while I'm feeling so chipper.

Wishing you a pleasant evening, Vee!

  23. Make no apologies dear Vee. I am the lazy one of late!!! Your snack looks yummy. I look forward to your tutorial when you have a chance to post it! Take it easy and your Spring will come.

  24. Toast, the ultimate comfort food. Save the pics on your tutorial we ARE all hanging by a "thread" to see how you do it. One day it will come together. Warmer days are coming, I just know it. Until then, we keep on keepin' on, and put one foot in front of the other. Love Abby

  25. It really is helpful to know that others start projects that don't get immediately finished (if ever). I am the queen of doing this. Don't know if it's ADD or lazy or distraction or tyranny of the urgent... but wish I were better about that. :)

  26. I guess we are in the same boat, Vee. I do think loafing around needs more gratitude, especially in the cold winter months you and I have. Come summer...well we will have to look busier.

Sending love to you for your uplifting comments on my blog. :)

  27. I, for one, would love to see that tutorial on the microwave bowls, Vee. I've made a number of them, but would like to know your method, whenever you feel like it. I always like learning new tips.
I get your feeling of just puttering around. Don't we all just enjoy doing what we like to do?
Hope you have a happy rest of the week, Vee. xx

  28. I'll not bin you, if you'll not bin me! Blogging slumps. We all have them. I have spent all week trying to write a post between the cracks of activity (and people talking to me when I am writing). I finally tabled (at least for now) and did something else.

Spring is getting closer! Hang on!!

  30. As you know my life is tough now - so it is I, not you, who shall win the Lazy Blogger award. Sad too because I have so much to share.

Quit beating yourself up, Vee - the blog should never make you feel guilty - make it be a treasure trove of "happy" or stop altogether - none of us needs an added ounce of quilt.

My older daughter uses awesome phrases and wonderful vocabulary.....and we always smile and say "That's another $10 phrase/word/etc." YOU get two today for using:

    WHEREWITHAL

    and

"BIN HER FOR BEING A LOAFER"

Also, do I detect that may be cinnamon toast? Honey buttered toast? Apple butter toast?

Hugs. Have a blessed weekend. ♥

Btw - warmth blew into today, it's gorgeous outside whilst yesterday was cold.

And I think I may have just broken a toe running into a very heavy mirror on the floor and left it there like an idiot for me to run into. :-(

  31. You will not be binned by me, I always enjoy reading what you have to say, I am the one who gets the lazy blogger award! I did post the other day, and think I might have just been the one who was binned,(whatever that means) ~smile~
Your toast looks like it might have some marmalade or apricot jam, whatever it looks delicious!
I have noticed that you and I are not the only ones who have slacked off on blogging, I think people are using instagram more often! I have done both, I prefer blogging for more personal contact, but instagram is faster, so much faster!
So whatever and whenever just please keep blogging, You continue to bless so many, me being one of those many! Thank you for your friendship and for allowing me a glimpse into your live at Haven!
I have a new safari download, so I hope you got my e-mail, I am just not computer literate, I'd rather be outside in my garden, lol
    Love from me to you
    Sue

  32. Ditto here, Vee. But we will hang in there, you and I and all the rest, as spring will put a spring in our blogging step soon. Poor cactus. Maybe a shot of fertilizer? I wish you a good weekend and inspiration to keep going. Love and a big hug. Pam

I think you have very valid reasons for feeling lazy. Snow into springtime would make me want to crawl under a blanket until the daffodils bloom.
