A Haven for Vee

This That and the Other

It was a quiet weekend. I kept busy with tidying the house, doing the laundry, and baking. I chose the cupcakes Susan so kindly gave us the recipe for a few weeks ago and practiced frosting them.

(There's more than one way to fix formatting.)

A friend tells me that I need a lot more frosting to get a full piping effect.

Time was also spent in the sewing room. One project completed and the other completed with troubles. So like me! I seem to have a tea cozy that won't fit even my smallest tea pot. How'd I manage that?!

↓As for the bowl cozy...used all year round in the microwave for easy removal of hot food and protecting hands from hot bowls and/or for protecting hands from cold ice cream bowls...I'm showing one little tip. If one quilts it a bit, ironing is not necessary. I dislike ironing bowl cozies.

Finally, I must have watched this little video 25 times. It makes me howl with laughter. You may well have already seen it as it went viral in 2013 and again last fall. (I live under a rock, which explains why I hadn't seen it until recently.) This is a real couple married over 50 years. His name is Jack; her name is Sonja. His line is "baked in a buttery, flaky crust." Can he say it? Not on his life. Sonja is definitely over invested in his success.  There's a hilarious ironic twist in the end. I watch it one time and just focus on Jack. The next time, I focus on Sonja. So funny! Let me know if you've seen it (I want to know how far under the rock I am). I saw someone in Missouri claiming this video...nice try, but these two are quintessential Mainers eating at a truck stop that I love.

Thanks for popping in. Have a wonderful day!

  1. The video looks fun but I wasn't getting any volume. Hope you can fix that...I love anything like this.

I think you accomplished a lot this weekend...we should not have a measuring stick for how productive we are. As in compared to others. I'm terribly sick...bronchitis again and I stayed in bed all day after missing a visit with my daughter. She was so disappointed and I had to really come to terms between my health and my love for her. Sorry...just another day in paradise.

  3. That video is such a hoot! As the video went on, I kind of felt over invested in Jack's success myself. Come on, Jack! It's NOT that hard! But then . . . yes, hilarious!! (I must be under the rock with you, because I had never seen this before.)

Thanks for the laugh on this gray Monday morning!

  4. I have seen this before, but not sure how long ago. Never mind about being under a rock … we all are. Life just comes and we take it! Cupcakes look good to me!

  5. I must be under that rock with you because I hadn't seen this video either! So funny :) I made a tea cozy that was too darn small too! I think what I did was fail to account for the width of my teapot. I still have the cozy, it looks like a little cottage and I'm so irritated that it's too small but I still think I can do something with it. Keep my teacup warm?

  8. Just watched your local couple 'trying to get it right' and had a good laugh. It was a first viewing for me as well! Sewing, baking (eating?), laughing...a weekend well spent!

  9. Oh Vee, this video is hilarious! I live under a rock as well as I've never seen this adorable couple. Their expressions are priceless. Grayden and I enjoyed it!
Your tea cozy's fabric is so pretty. I hope there is more fabric to make a larger one. ♥

  10. Those Cupcakes look so tasty! Yummy! If you are a slow tea drinker, perhaps the too small cozy could keep your cup/mug warm...?
Have seen the video before, but still makes me laugh. Gotta love Dysarts! Will likely eat there on Wed. when I go to Bangor to pick up my brother at airport. I usually go to the newer one on Broadway as it is near a lovely quilt shop.

    2. Before. He doesn't get in until 6:30 pm. I'll likely be there for lunch. Is that too far for you to come and join me for lunch? Of course I could go to the one on the highway too, where these two couldn't get their words right!

  13. Did you tell us what was on the toast? Probably...but I missed it. Please tell me again.

I laughed through that video, too. Sonja's expressions are priceless and then she was just as bad. That's exactly what would happen to me.

  14. Oh my gosh... I am sitting here at work and watching this on my phone and howling! That was hysterical and I can't recall ever seeing it before. See, you aren't the only one living under a rock! Thanks for the good laugh on this Monday morning!

  15. Well if you are under a rock, then I am under a mountain cuz I've never seen this before. It was hysterical, lol. I loved to start the day with a good laugh, so thanks for that!

OH, and I am impressed with your piping of frosting. I do have that on my bucket list of things I'd love to learn and master...

  17. This video made me laugh! I did not see it before. I love their accents, as I am very sensitive to my accent these days as everyone I meet in Colorado has to tell me I have one ;)

Your frosting is perfect---ignore that person who told you you need to use more frosting --wink wink.

  18. What a cute couple. I've not seen the video before and did it made me laugh! Your cupcakes look delicious. Those bowl cozies are the handiest things. My mom gave me a couple and I'd like to learn how to make them for gifts.

  19. Thanks for your tip on the bowl cozies, Vee. Your cupcakes look yummy! As for the couple, I'm completely under a rock, as I've never seen the video. It did make me laugh, and I thank you for the chuckle.

  20. Well your tea cozy is very pretty...maybe you can come up with another use? I like the idea of the bowl cozy, I'm forever trying to carry my bowls with a hot pad, it works, but not well. I have seen the video, but only recently...probably because I too live under a rock. It is very funny!

  21. The cupcakes sound yummy, thanks for the link. Love the tea cozy.

  22. Oh my, that is hilarious. I had never seen it before. Sonja's expression was priceless. Adorable couple.
I need to head on over and check out that recipe. It looks scrumptious. I've never even attempted frosting them with anything but a knife. Your efforts look impressive to me.

  23. I should try to make some of those bowl cozies!

I saw that video last year, but I just watched it again with Tim, who was seeing it for the first time! We laughed and laughed! What an adorable couple they are!

  25. My kind of cupcake Vee, I don't like those mile high iced ones. (although I make mine that way for bake sales :-)
I had never seen the video and what a hoot! By the time she had her turn, she was brainwashed by his mistakes - poor woman.
That is a problem with the tea cozy, leave it on the counter and let people guess what's underneath. lol

  26. I have never seen this video either. Let me say that it truly made my night though. Poor Jack and then Sonja could not get it right either. How funny!

  27. If you've been hiding under a rock, then I must be in there with you because I've not seen this video before. It was funny.

Regarding your cupcakes, I assume you purposely used TWO paper cups for each cupcake and fanned them out a big. That is such a nice touch! I must remember that. Very pretty!

  28. I've been under the same rock! I hadn't seen this video, but thank you for my LOL of the day!

  29. As long as they're delicious it doesn't matter what the frosting looks like :) The video is hysterical! I never saw it before either :)

  30. We're having a party under the rock, and I'm late, but here, joining you, lol! HILARIOUS! Oh that was good Vee, thanks for the squeal of laughter, I will show it to my parents. They will "get" it, lol! Love it! Your tea cozy is a beauty. I think you need to go shopping for a tiny pot, heehee! No, I think it would work for a tea cup though! I'm like you, sometimes in the sewing room things go wonky and I never know why, lol! Thanks again for sharing the laugh today :)

  31. Lol - I just saw that video lately as well and it is hilarious!!! Your cupcakes look so good and pretty too. I'm behind in reading my blogs and need to check back to see if you gave a tutorial on the bowl cozy - it's so pretty. Your teapot cozy is also so nice - really like the lace. Now you just need to find a smaller tea pot!

  34. Yup, I saw the video on Facebook the first time it made the rounds and yes, it made the rounds again in the past few months. It is hilarious and the fact that it's Dysart's Truck Stop makes it all the more endearing. We always need a good laugh Vee. Good medicine!
