A Haven for Vee

A Nod to the Coming Season

Haven't felt like doing much for weeks now. This week, I just had to get things in gear or else St. Pat's, Easter, and spring itself might get away from me. Just popping in a few photos of the little changes I've made from winter's decor.

I never thought to use the cocoa pot for spring and summer decor before because it is, after all, a cocoa pot.

The shamrock tea cup is one of my nods to St. Patrick's Day. I only started celebrating a little when I learned that I have a few ancestors from Ireland. Don't we all? The other is a birthday gift mug from Sam my grandson.

Seems that Sam and his mom enjoyed a leisurely shopping experience at the local flea market that just opened in town. Sam may even have been bitten by the flea market bug. Someday, I'll take you on a tour. It's in a refurbished chicken barn.

While reading at Jane's this week, she mentioned how her husband fixed her bunny banner. I really liked it. You can find hers *here* along with other sweet spring decor.

~↑not my house↑~

The view just outside the dining room window. (I do love my neighbors and their house!) Spring has truly arrived early, which is very rare indeed for my corner. Is spring early in your corner, too? (Hope that mention of this does not mean an imminent snowstorm.)

The vintage photo on display this month and probably through summer. No, I have zero idea who these adorable sisters are. They remind me of my nieces. I love the 1940s outfits and hairdos. Most of all, I love the clasped hands and the obvious differences in their personalities.

It's funny, but certain faces seem to go in and out of style. You look at old photographs and everybody has a certain look to them, almost as if they're related. Look at pictures from ten years later and you can see that there's a new kind of face starting to predominate, and that the old faces are fading away and vanishing, never to be seen again.
~Alan Moore

Personally, I think these sweet faces will never go out of style!

If all goes well today, I hope to catch up with many of you in Blogdom. I am well aware that I have been remiss.

  2. Your spring things look pretty!! I love vintage photos! It's a moment forever captured in time. I've been looking at lost of old photos today. Or yesterday as it is after midnight as I write. We attended a memorial service for a cousin. She was the next oldest member of our family. Mother is the oldest and will be 90 this June. Those old photos told such a moving story of Paula's life.
I have photos that I have no clue who the people were. Still, just like you, I keep them and admire them and it makes me feel good.
I hope you have a wonderful spring!!! It IS early for y'all! Spring is in full bloom down here in Texas!!

  3. Very pretty china Vee, anything with roses always tempts me!
The rabbit banner is very sweet, thank you for the link.
I was a 40's child and I've got similar photos - same clothes - almost!

P.S. Something tells me that winter is not done with us yet...it is 40 and pouring rain here today.

  6. Good morning! I love your leaping bunnies...I WAS going to make myself an Easter banner this year too to replace my Valentines one, but nope, I have not, and once more the Valentines one is still up....need to kick it into gear too. Easter is early this year..can that be my excuse? LOVE the vintage pic..Have a good day Vee!

  8. Oh my! I may have to figure out how to make a bunny banner. I keep saying I'll make a Spring banner but I better get busy soon! It's like summer time here...the 80s every day. That's warm for us this month! Hugs!

  9. Looking pretty at your house with spring touches and a degree (if I understand) of feeling better.
I've never thought of faces going out of style--wondering if you're including hairstyles or facial expressions … pondering that.

    1. Hi Dotsie! As stated, I disagree with the quote. Faces, in my opinion, never go out of style.

  10. I especially love the vintage photo. I'm sad sometimes to see how fast children are growing up and looking like little adults too soon! I have a friend who said her 12 year old granddaughter came over with "false eyelashes" on!! Why! The outfits the girls are wearing remind me of the chicken feed clothes my mother made for us, XOXO

  11. Spring has arrived early here as well. I have not done much as far as changing things go as I have been sick all week. I hope to feel like cheering things up a little next week.

  12. Such a pleasant post Vee - I have the feeling you are at last ready for spring and the changes it brings after the long, chilly months of winter. Sunny blue skies make a real difference to the day - hope they now continue often up north!
Love the vintage photo of the sweet little girls - and at least striped tee shirts are still in style - love them.
Happy week to you - as for me, driving friend to airport today, voting here on Tuesday, hair on Wed., St. Patrick's Day Thurs., and all the usual stuff squished in between!

    Hugs - Mary

  15. Nice spring touches around your house.
Seems like spring here too but that could change. Last year it snowed on the first day of spring so it would still happen.

  16. Sweet faces in that photo.
I like the springing up of your spaces. I need to get the Easter bins down from the attic...soon!
Love the sunshine and shadows from the dining room window.
    Have a good week...

  17. I love seeing your tea things and that hot cocoa pot is beautiful! It deserves to be out all year!

The bunny banner is cute - I like them leaping all over!

Spring has arrived early here to, and I am thankful! The photo of those sisters is so sweet! Loving sisters never go out of style!

    1. Oh! I forgot to say that Sam was very sweet to think of you! Cute mug!

  18. I made a bunny banner out of felt. Used 5 different spring colors and glued a bowtie on each in a contrasting color. It cost nothing as I already had the felt. Used a bunny cut out of a coloring book for a pattern.

Hope the situation with your teeth is getting better. A constant ache anywhere in our bodies can be bloody miserable....thinking of you.

  19. I liked seeing your Spring decor, Vee. Wasn't that sweet of Sam to think of you with a mug? The vintage painting in the second photo really caught my eye, and how cute your bunny banner is. I'd better get on the ball with some Easter decor. It'll be here before I know it.
How's the tooth situation? Hope you have a good week! xo

  20. I think spring is springing pretty fast this year all over but don't look at the long range weather forecast for later this week up here. It might blow the wind out of our happy spring sails! We'll see. I love your pretty china and that cocoa server is gorgeous. The RA teacup on the bottom left looks like the Centennial Rose pattern (I have the cup and saucer). Sam found a great mug for you. I would love to see the flea market in the old chicken barn. The leaping bunny banner is sweet! Here's hoping this weather trend continues into a lovely springtime. Hugs. Pam

  22. What a darling photo...wish times were still like that don't you? Spring in Maine is sooo gorgeous! I can see it's beginning to turn! Have a great week Vee!

  23. The two sisters in the photo are indeed, darling girls, Vee! It would be fun to make up an entire story about them.
I see you don't have any snow , either. We have been snow less and very dry for a couple months--very unusual for this area of the front range. Today is very windy so we have a "red flag" fire warning in effect. Hope we get much needed snow or rain soon!
My grandsons enjoy shopping in thrift stores, as often they find books or toys they enjoy and can buy with their chore money.
I did not decorate this year for St Patrick's Day this year as Easter is too close behind it. Time is passing too quickly this year!

  24. It is lovely to decorate for the changing seasons isn't it. I haven't done any since Christmas until I just started doing some Eastery things - I had taken Christmas down at the time of course! - and I didn't realise how much I missed it. Love your bouncy bunny garland, too cute!! xx

  25. Love your chocolate pot! I skipped St. Patrick's Day decorating and went right to Easter decorating! I will cook an Irish meal andcwear green!

  26. Lovely spring decor . Yes spring has arrived here early and I am loving it ! Thanks for sharing , have a good day !

  27. I love all your pretty cups and the chocolate pot certainly looks like spring. Chocolate is seasonless isn't it? My favorite thing is that photo! How sweet are the outfits and the looks on those little faces! I would have a hard time putting that one away :)

  28. There will be no St Patrick's decorations here - too little time, too much to do. Easter is always acknowledged though, and a little decorating has been started. More on the weekend!

  29. It is such a treat to come to your Haven today...to see your pretty things, hunker down for a little visit, and have a chat with you!!

The bunny banner is adorable! I love all of your tea things (good choice, Sam!). Spring is certainly springing at your house! Hope that you have a spring in your step! :)

  30. The cocoa pot is so pretty, along with the teapot. You can use it for cold chocolate milk for summer.
I hope this move to decorate means that you are feeling a wee bit better. You've had a tough go of it. I hope spring bursts out even more at your place!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ok...so I didn't know the difference between a teapot and a cocoa pot. But it sure looks springy to me so I say who cares if it was made to hold cocoa? If it was chilly enough, I might even drink a cup in the spring :) Lovely springy touches and the bunnies are adorable. I agree with you about the expressions on some of those old photos (not these). Most old family pics from way back have everyone looking like they are either sad or mad. These two lovely ladies have wonderful faces!

  32. Your Sam has great taste in tea things. How sweet of him to choose the perfect gift for you! Your chocolate pot looks right at home with your lovely things and the leaping rabbits add a sweet charm to your spring decor. ♥

  33. Love that vintage photo too! How sweet that Sam picked up a birthday mug for you! It's looking lovely over there...and I'm hoping that you are feeling fresh and ready to 'leap into spring' (along with the bunnies)!

  34. Sam gifted you a really nice mug Vee, hope it will become your favourite. Our Sam chose a plant for me last year which I put in view of the front door and I noticed it is coming back nicely this year - pinks that bloomed all summer.
Nice to see grass again isn't it, even if it has a brownish tinge to it.

  35. I LOVE that cocoa pot -- so beautiful!! You should display it year round. The bunny banner is adorable. That is an interesting quote about faces. Perhaps the spirit of an age can be seen in faces at times. People living through the Depression might have different facial expressions in general than during prosperous, carefree times?
We are warming up here. Hope it's not just a big tease!

  38. Enjoyed your post. My father took me to my first book sale at twelve and gave me a little money. That started a lifetime of used book sales, flea markets and the thrill of discovery.

  39. I'm sorry you haven't felt like doing anything, Vee; I've been the same way for two or three months. I have definitely been remiss about blogging and visiting. As usual, I've enjoyed your post. Love the vintage photograph of the two girls; it looks like a sweeter and simpler time. Your china pots in the first picture are beautiful!! That was so thoughtful of Sam to shop for you when he was at the flea market. Your bunny banner is darling; I keep wanting to make some seasonal banners but I somehow don't get around to it. They're really popular right now. :)

So you have a few Irish ancestors, huh? You're right -- don't we all? :-D I hope you've had a nice St. Pat's Day and hope you have a great weekend!

    Warm hugs,

I love olden photos...I, too, have a few that I've no idea who they are...and now all of the elders in my family have passed...now, I am the elder...so I try to tell my kids and cousins things I remember....it's so important...i so wish I had asked more questions.....

  41. Vee~~~

Wow! You get a lot of comments. I hope you find my wee little one here.

I really love the picture of your home from outside. It's so rare we see these outside views. You've got an abundance of windows which is nice and a great deck. Is this the front or back? Love it. Spring is coming quick here, too. Does anyone pay attention to the almanac anymore? Our weather people have so many advantages now...they can spot bad weather days in advance. I'm a little excited that I bought some pansies for an urn on my front porch. I think they will be fine.

Love your tea cups and pretty floral china. The shamrock cup is perfect for that little nod to your heritage. For so long I denied my little bit of Irish heritage. Here there are people who are 100% going waaaaaaay back. I hung on to the little German in me and my guy has 1/2 French blood. Our kids don't care..., my three married ones have 100% Irish spouses and Abby's boyfriend is 100% as well. It's a huge thing on the Southside. Pride...

Thanks so much for the mention about the bunnies. Thank the hubby. I am so unbelievably uncreative! :(. I have to get my spring stuff up but I don't know if I should do all the bunnies. I collect them, and I'm talking big ones. I sometimes scare people with all of them lurking everywhere with those glass eyes. lol!

Thanks always for the visits, Vee.

  43. Good Morning Vee and I hope you enjoyed a blessed Easter weekend. We had warm temps with moderate rain yesterday. Trees are putting on their greenery and a few bulbs and shrubs are blooming. I did post a new blog post if you have a chance to stop by this week. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Those sisters are adorable, regardless who they are.

Sorry I have been missing, but I sure enjoy visiting your blog!

    Hugs! Happy Spring!
