A Wee Chat

Perhaps it is time for a little chat since I have nothing exciting, important or even interesting to tell you. Inspires confidence in this post, right? ☺

*****

Oh. The tooth. Such a little tooth to have caused all these troubles. I have to wait awhile because the dentist to whom I have been referred is booked for several weeks. I am going to call around and ask about prices and wait time this morning. In the meantime, I am on a second round of antibiotic and feeling nearly normal. Cost thus far? Nearly five hundred dollars and counting. <  thud  >

The Easter cactus is going to bloom in plenty of  time for Easter. Always good.

Let's see, we did have a very cute and charming visitor last week. John's eldest daughter and her grandson made the trip up from Virginia to visit. You last saw them *here* and, believe it or not, that's the last time we saw them, too. (The post is dated 2013, but it was actually taken in 2011.) Needless to say, John was very happy to see his daughter after nearly five years. And to say that he thinks the world of this little fellow goes without saying as well. Yup, he was (we were) definitely smitten. ☺ John's granddaughter, this little guy's mother, is serving our country in the Middle East.

Both John and I have had birthdays in the past week. Here was a gift waiting his attention as soon as he arrived home from church. Good thing I knew what it was or I might have had to open it myself. My birthday gifts were in monetary form and they really were a blessing with the tooth. (Here's another promise...no more mention of said tooth.)

Closing with my Downton Abbey thoughts...

Well it was the most disconcerting thing. Somehow I had a narrator throughout the final program. I did not like her and tried looking up how to give her the boot. Sadly, I could not figure it out so I may have missed a few things even as the narrator described every single thing. Annoying. If anyone has any experience with removing narration for the vision impaired, feel free to fill me in.

The final episode of Downton Abbey settled most scores, a remarkable feat. I will miss these characters...most of them that is...and I will miss the estate itself, which is a character all its own. (I do not envy Edith's castle...terribly austere, though the interior is nice enough.) Those closing shots were terribly poignant. And the narrator said, "fade to black."

  2. Sending BIG sympathy for that tooth. When you have a toothache the whole world seems to revolve around your mouth.
    A belated Happy Birthday!

  3. Happy belated birthday....so sorry about that tooth...the last episode was quite nice and full of little surprises...loved Mrs. Crawley and Dickie...I could go on and on...and I especially made a trip to your blog because I knew you would discuss it...smiles

  4. Happy Happy Belated Birthday Wishes to you Vee! May this year ahead be a very good one in every way and filled with blessings. As for the tooth....that is expensive so far. I am so grateful for insurance that covers part of the expense but it's not fun to have to pay for the misery of it all either way. Hopefully you'll get to see the dentist sooner than later. God bless you my friend. Oh....I found Downton Abbey on Netflix - the last season! It was sitting there all this time so I'll start watching it today. I'm so excited. And reading everyone's comments and reviews didn't bother me one bit. I'll watch with fresh eyes. :) Have a wonderful day and week ahead.

  5. I am so happy that you are feeling "nearly normal"! At least you are not in great distress (for indeed, dental pain causes great distress!) while you wait. Ugh. Waiting is hard work.

How lovely to have a visit from John's daughter and that adorable great-grand!!

And...Happy (belated) Birthdays to the two of you!! Hope your special days were filled with memory-making moments! May the year ahead be rich with His grace!!

  7. I have not seen some of my family for weeks and I can't think of anything to write about today. Haven't watched DA yet. Wish you soon get that tooth completely well, nothing worse. Belated Happy Birthday wishes to you and John.

  8. Happy Belated Birthday, Vee! Spring is on the way. From this workroom window I see witch hazel and snowdrops in bloom. I am shocked by the price of your tooth treatment so far. Nothing has happened but seeing the dentist and getting prescriptions for antibiotics and buying them, right? And happy belated birthday to John. I'm just awake and my brain is a bit foggy...Wonderful to see John's daughter and great grandson. I support our troops but it does seem sad that a mother and child should be separated.

    1. right?

      Right!

Yes, it is sad that a mother and child are separated. Seems that there is something else that could be done, but it is considered only fair in these days of gender equality. In the meantime, this little guy pays a high price and he's only four!

    2. Perhaps I should have said gender neutrality, not gender equality.

  9. So sorry to hear about the tooth trouble you are having. Do hope that you are able to see a dentist soon without waiting for much longer. I wondered what you would have to say about the last episode of Downton Abby after the last episode. I enjoyed it but will miss it too. How lovely to have visitors as nice as John's daughter and her grandson! Hope you will have some luck getting an appointment today!

  10. Good morning! So sorry to hear you are still having trouble with that pesky tooth. I will pray this morning that you get in somewhere quickly, and the problem is behind you for good, and that not much more money will be spent! Goodness I think they charge WAY WAY too much to fix those tiny things. How wondferful John got to see his daughter after sooo long. I honestly don't know what I'd do if it should ever be that long since I saw Melody. Goodness, I am whinning now because it seems soo long and it's only been 3 months! Haven't watched DA yet, but we will tonight...soo looking forward to it. Happy birthday to you both!

  11. Happy Belated Birthday!! Oh so sorry on your teeth, and the cost. I pray over mine everyday, because we don't have any form of insurance and I am not sure what we would do if something happened. I keep asking God to extend the life of my teeth. I pray you get resolve soon. What a blessed visit with his daughter and grandson. Thanks for sharing, it makes me grateful that my family all lives here at this point in time. We all need to be reminded of counting our blessings. Have a great week...and I hope pain free.

  12. Hello Vee, Yes Happy Birthday to you! I recorded DA so I will watch it tonight! I also think the price of denistry is through the roof like most everything anymore. Hope you fully recover soon!

  13. Happy, Happy Birthday to you both! I am glad that you are feeling okay now. It's incredible how much everything costs.

What a nice visit you must have had! That little guys is a cutie, now wonder you were both taken with him.

I loved the last season of Downton, and the last episode especially.

  14. Well, Happy Birthday to you, dear Vee {a few days late}.

Praying your tooth continues to improve! Enjoy this brand new week, lovely lady. Hugs!

  15. Happy birthday to you and John! Glad he got to visit with his daughter and great grandson! Oh I do hope you will tell us when your tooth is finally taken care of. Praying that happens sooner than later for sure. So sad to say goodbye to Downton... but it was nice to have some things resolved nicely. Hope your week goes well.

  16. Please keep us updated on your tooth. So glad you are feeling better, but I'm sure you are wanting this ordeal to be over. Happy Birthday to both you and John. Vee, you've just got to let me know if your birthday is March 3rd. Quite a few of my favorite people share that birthday. That little great-grandson is adorable. That's such a cute age.

  17. Thankful you are feeling a little better. Tough to have to wait. Happy birthday to both you and your dear John.

  18. Happy belated birthday, dear Vee. What a nice birthday surprise for John!
We didn't have the narration you had with Downton Abbey! How annoying was that? I too was happy with the ending and almost felt sorry for poor Mr. Carson. Even though he has annoyed me to no end this season.
Take care and have nice afternoon. ♥

  19. Happy Birthday to you and John, though a bit late.
That is one expensive tooth so far!!
Nice that John got to see his daughter and great grandson.

  20. I will make you feel a little better about the tooth. A friend of mine was having a root canal and the dentist broke the file in it. She had to then go to an endodontist and was there for hours. The price of her tooth was almost $5,000.00!! My late beloved used to jokingly say that he could never get rid of me because of all the money that was spent on my teeth!
What a sweet visit with John's daughter and the great grandson.

  21. Good heavens, that tooth! I'll be saying some extra prayers for you. Inconceivable that it has cost you so much and hasn't even been dealt with yet! Happy Birthday to you and John, and many more :) Lovely that you had a visit with his daughter and grandson. I am sure it was a joyful time. I sure did love that Downton finale, I think I will give it a few weeks and start the whole thing over!

  25. Hi Vee,

First of all, Happy Belated Birthday to you!!! I'm very sorry to hear about your tooth; teeth are sooo expensive. We have to have them though, don't we? What an adorable great-grandson John has!! Sending wishes for his mother's safe return from the middle east.

I'm sorry about your distraction on the final Downton Abbey episode. I had so looked forward to that show, and I used up several tissues during the two-hour time slot. I agree with you that the closing shots were so poignant, and I will really, really miss this show. I was glad to see it end on a happy note. :)

    Hugs to you,

    Denise at Forest Manor

    1. It was some feature that the local PBS station had on for the visually impaired. One can shut it off via the tv's remote IF one can find it in the menu. All the time the program played, a narrator described what was going on as one might do for a blind person. Beyond frustrating. I have never had it happen before and I hope to never have it happen again.

  28. Happy Birthday, tho belated, to you and John! I imagine getting a visit from his daughter and cute little grandson was a wonderful birthday gift. Hope all goes well with your tooth! I have never watched DA, but I have read enough to kinda know what's been happening. Glad you liked the finale. Sometimes they don't turn out the way we would have them do.

  29. Sending belated Birthday wishes. So sorry to hear of your "tooth" problem. Dentists can be so very expensive. I needed partials due to some missing teeth. Always hated to smile and show the gaps on both sides. Finally took some money from my 401K and got the partials. Best money ever spent. Now I can eat properly and I can smile to my hearts content. Sometimes you just have to do it for yourself. Sending love and hugs.

  30. Hi Vee~

Happy Birthday - a little late!! I hope both you and John had a great day! Your little grand is so cute, they look like forever friends!

Can't say enough about how much I adore your, Easter Cactus. Mine is doing better thanks to your help... :-)

I'm so sorry about your DA experience!! My daughter always leaves the subtitles on when watches a movie, and it drives me batty . . . and it doesn't even talk!

I hope your tooth problems are taken care of very soon!!

    Hugs,
    Barb

So sorry about the tooth. I hope you can soon get it seen to.

  32. Belated birthday greetings to you and John.
With all that you have spent on that tooth I would like to think that it was all fixed by now. Sigh! I hope it won't be too much longer for you now.
How nice to have a visit from John's daughter and great grandson.

  33. I love DA- and the opening music is just about my favorite theme music ever! Sorry about your tooth- and I hope you do get in to see someone soonest!

  34. Happy belated birthday, Vee! (And John!) Sorry that your birthday gifts are all about 'the tooth' this year...but hopefully it will be 'a gift that keeps on giving' a pain-free mouth for years to come! Hope you can get it all looked after soon.

I so enjoyed the DA finale...with a happy ending all around. I will miss Violet's quips! What a great series.

  35. Happy belated birthday. You know how to celebrate! ;-) $500 won't even make the payment on his villa in Tuscany. Have pity. Anyway, when you emailed me about the narrator, i thought perhaps John talks all though a movie, as some do, which is why i rarely ask my friend to watch a good movie with me. Sorry John, falsely accused. And also sorry about the narration. You'll have to fiddle around with the menu and settings. I do like to have closed captioning on, if it's exactly in sync with the dialogue. Cute little great grand and I'm sure it was a wonderful visit. Little ones are such a delight.

  38. Birthday wishes to you Vee. I do hope you had a good day despite the tooth issue. And speaking of tooth...I pray that you heal quickly from this as I know all too well the PAIN the butt the mouth can cause! LOL! I am sure you all was glad to see John's daughter and son. Nothing like family. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  39. Dentistry in any form is not cheap and I hope your tooth issue is resolved without too much more cost. (right :-)
Glenn is our remote control guy and he takes care of unwanted program descriptions when they crop up. For some reason our area is now getting amber alerts through the TV and one came on a couple of times blocking the screen of DA in progress. Luckily it said at the bottom to hit 'exit' to remove the text. My 96 year old friend wasn't as lucky, she didn't know what to do and missed the last half hour. She called me Monday morning for a rundown on how the last episode ended. Yup, we're going to miss this show...

  40. Happy belated birthday Vee! So sorry your birthday present had to go for paying for dental care. No fun. I do hope you are feeling better by now/can get into see a dentist soon.
I didn't watch DA the past two seasons, but did watch the finale. Looked like everyone had a happy ending. I love closed captioning, but the narration would have driven me crazy!

  41. Happy birthday, Vee and John! John's little great grandson is so cute and I see a family resemblance! Thank his mother for her service to our country, and kudos to John's daughter fr caring for her grandson while her daughter is serving!

My dentist retired and he sold his practice to a young womna dentist. I went in yesterday for a check up and she wants to crown almost every one of my molars !!! $$$ Needless to day I was shocked and I don't think I need so much work so I made an appointment for a second opinion. We are fortunate to have dental insurance but even so my out of pocket expenses would have been thousands fpr so much work. I don;t care that I have big fillings--they don't hurt me.

I never knew there was narration on TV for the visually impaired! I could have used that post op my glaucoma eye surgery when I was not allowed to watch TV or read. Did you try watching the show online? It was a nice ending --a happy ending for all. I will miss that show very much!

  42. Happiest Birthday to you and to John...So glad the daughter and grand came to see ya'll...I have such little family left..all aunts, uncles gone...cousins spread out so far I never get to see them much...we do have cousins living fairly close and when we get to visit with them, it's so special.
Sorry the little bitty tooth is so much trouble....

  43. Not nice tooth problems as I well know. Maybe you are sorted by now. So glad that we have dental insurance as I know how expensive it is for you. How wonderful that John was able to see his daughter and Grand child.Five years is a long time. The parting afterwards must be hard. The end of Downton almost like a bereavement!. They could not keep it going though as to be authentic it would have taken it into the 20s/30s when there were big time changes amongst the aristocracy and many could no longer afford the lifestyle. Many of the large country houses are now open to the public, handed to the National Trust to run , used for weddings and even hotels etc.

  44. Happy belated birthday! So glad to hear the tooth issue is at least oh hold for a while. I absolutely despise tooth-related problems. How nice to see these visitors after such a long time! I am sure everyone must have enjoyed getting caught up. Since I was not home yet, I had recorded Downton so I could watch it all alone so I could take in all of the details....well, when were arrived home on Tuesday, I get all settled in and found out it HAD NOT RECORDED!! I had to watch it on my laptop and the quality of the video was just OK but certainly wasn't HDTV good. I did get to see it all though THOROUGHLY enjoyed how Fellows tied it all together. Have you heard he may not be finished with them??? It seems to be true :) Oh joy.....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Happy belated Birhtday, Vee!!!! I am so sorry about your problems with your tooth. I have to go to the dentist on Wednesday morning myself. It is never a cheap trip, is it?
I didn't read the Downton Abbey comment because I am just in the middle of watching Season 6 on DVD. This winter was not a good one for TV watching here.
Hope you have a blessed Sunday- xo Diana
